Emily The Present. The most amazing news came the next morning. And lucky for Emily it meant she could go back to bed. She had gotten no sleep the night before… after tossing and turning for hours she decided to go on a run. But while she was out she came upon an unfamiliar wolf. Someone that wasn’t part of her pack. Unfortunately for her it turned out to be Janine. There shouldn’t have been any wolves that far into the forest. She made sure she went deep enough in that she wouldn’t run into any guards or scouts… or visitors. Not to mention it was the middle of the night. Of course, Lo was there with her. She hadn’t even been able to scent him because he had Janine’s smell all over him, mixing the two. And she knew what that meant. The thought of Lorenzo and Janine sleeping together made her stomach churn, even if she had no right to feel that way. After that debacle she still couldn’t sleep. Finally around 5 am she drifted off, only to be awoken a couple hours later. It was
Emily. She and Charlotte walked into the little store where Alice stood behind the counter. She was helping a customer so Emily took a moment to browse the aisles. She got a couple funny looks from some of the people shopping, but after she looked at them right in their eyes, challenging them to say something, they subsided and bowed their heads. She would not hide. Especially here in her own pack that she was Luna of. She was thinking about Charlotte’s father and what happened to him as she browsed. Now that he was gone, her best friend had to go into the towns to purchase the store items. And that made Emily very nervous. She wished there was a better way. “Emily!” She heard Alice say. She walked over and took Emily in her arms, hugging her. She truly loved Alice. She was the best kind of person, loving and loyal. “Hello Alice! How are you?” Emily asked her. “Oh I’m soldiering on dearie. But how are YOU?” She asked, looking at Emily worryingly. Emily smiled at her and
Emily They were getting ready to leave when Emily remembered she’d brought some flowers for Alice. She had kept some from the ones she and Charlotte had planted around the cabin. “Oh Alice I almost forgot, here we brought you this flowering bush. You can plant it outside or leave it in this pot and keep it inside.” Emily said. “Oh…. Thank you child. But… what is it?” “It’s a rare purple hydrangea.” Emily told her. “It might lose its leaves when it turns really cold but it’ll survive.”“Well it’s beautiful! Thank you dearie! I’m sorry if I seem ungrateful I assure you I’m not. I just thought for a moment you were giving me Monkshood…”. Alice said with a laugh. Emily and Charlotte exchanged looks. “Um no Alice of course not….” Emily said. “Sorry dear, of course not. It does favor it somewhat and I just thought you might’ve gotten it out of Sophia’s garden.” Alice said. Emily stood there a moment, not speaking, a frown etched on her face. Again, she and Charlotte exchanged gl
EmilyTHE PAST She had swimming in a black hole… at least that’s what it felt like. She was surrounded by darkness. But then suddenly it felt like a vacuum was sucking her out of the pit and she was swept back into the real world. Her eyes popped open and she jerked up from where she had been laying. Someone had put her on the couch. She took deep heavy quick breaths trying to calm herself. What just happened??People were talking but they sounded muffled. Like they were speaking inside a bottle. She looked around and saw everyone staring at her with worried expressions. “What. Happened.” She managed to get out. “You passed out.” Her father told her. “Probably from the pain.” Elenora said. “But we can’t give you the medicine yet… it’ll slow the transition down too much.” Emily felt okay at the moment. She was still dizzy and sore and burning up, but she wasn’t having the horrible pains at the moment. “Okay…..” she said. “I think I’m better now….”But then another pain hit her
Emily THE PAST A bee was stinging her. A gigantic bee fromthe feel of it. She tried to swat it away but someone grabbed her hands. She came to just as Elenora was finishing the first shot. She’d put it right in Emily’s stomach, and Maeve was holding her arms down. Another blast of pain hit her then. This time in her upper body. Her shoulders and neck felt like they were on fire. “Aarrggghhh!” She screamed. Oh goddess when would this ever end. She was writhing in the floor, nothing was giving her any kind of relief. She had to do this. She had to make it. She knew after the first shift that each subsequent one would be easier and quicker. She remembered from her brothers doing it. Like them, she didn’t stay and watch the first one. In fact her father wouldn’t let her anywhere near them… he’d been afraid it would scare her too much. But by the second time, it had been loads easier. They’d told her the second shift went about 2/3 faster and hurt 2/3 less than the first one. Th
EmilyThe Present. The following day they’d planned to spend at the lake. Her brothers were going to cook out and later they would go for a run and then watch a movie. It would be the perfect day… hopefully. That morning after breakfast Charlotte came over and they all went out behind Emily’s cabin to the lake. It was pretty cold so they couldn’t get in but they could still enjoy it. “So what movie are we going to watch tonight?” Charlotte asked no one in particular. “Oohh something scary.” Emily said. “I was thinking we could watch Twilight.” Alan spoke up. They all busted out laughing at this. Emily wanted to enjoy the day as much as possible because tomorrow, she’d be back at her trial. So she decided to go in and fix everyone a drink. While she was there someone knocked on the door. She thought it might be Lo, until she caught the scent. Emily dropped what she was doing and rushed to the door, jerking it open before they had a chance to knock again. “Hi sister!” “Maeve
Emily After they’d all had a good laugh at Alan they started making dinner. The boys were grilling steaks while the girls made the drinks and the sides. Emily’s mouth was watering as the smell of the grill wafted through her cabin. She built a fire in the fireplace and they all sat around the table to eat. Halfway through the meal Alan, who they were still making fun of, said he had gone over today to invite Lorenzo to come eat with them. Emily popped her head up at this. “He didn’t want to come?” She asked. “Don’t know… he wasn’t there.” Alan told her. “Oh…” she said. “He’s gone.” Alan continued. What? Gone? “What do you mean?” Emily asked him. “He left. He’s gone.” Emily dropped her fork and everyone stopped eating to look at her. He’s gone?? No. Surely not. He wouldn’t leave without saying goodbye to her, would he? In the middle of her trial? Was this because of what had happened last night… she wondered. Maybe she had upset him by what she said about Janine. Or ma
Emily THE PAST She couldn’t believe it. She’d made it through her first shift. Once she got a little acclimated, she noticed everyone was staring at her and not saying anything. And because she couldn’t actually speak she tilted her head at them. “Emily…. It’s…. You’re incredible.” Her dad told her. “So much like your mother.”Nothing her dad could ever say would make her prouder than those words. “Erm.. Emily… here come look in the mirror”. Maeve was telling her. It took her a second to get her legs to work, but once she took a couple steps it was like she’d been doing it her entire life. When she got to the mirror, she was absolutely shocked at what she saw. Surely this wasn’t right… someone was playing an elaborate trick on her. Because there in the reflection, was the most beautiful amazing wolf she’d ever seen. She was huge, first of all. Well over twice as big as most wolves her age. Then there was her color… a sparkling, bright, silver white. The rarest of all the colo
Emily THE PRESENT The entire room was complete silent. No one spoke, no one moved. Once Emily finished her story she stood.. waiting. But still no one said a word. It felt like everyone was holding their breath. Emily let out a huge sigh as tears came to her eyes. She felt the biggest weight off her chest as she turned to look at her brothers. who were both in tears as well. They finally knew. Everyone. Finally. Knew. She noticed more people in the crowd had tears in their eyes as well. She looked over at Nick.. who kept his head bowed. He wouldn’t even glance at her. Ellis caught her eye.. he gave her a small encouraging nod and smile. Finally after what seemed like forever, Reymond stood up and said: “thank you, Emily. You may sit down. Reymond asked if anyone else had anything to say or add. Nobody did. And then he said the trial would adjourn for the next three days. Even though he didn’t say it, Emily assumed that meant they’d have a decision by then. An outcome, for what
Emily THE PAST Emily was so shocked by Susan’s confession she couldn’t even believe what she was hearing. Emily couldn’t breathe. She couldn’t move. She couldn’t speak. “Granted I was trying to kill you… if that makes you feel better.” Susan kept talking. Emily was lost in a cloud of darkness. Confusion and shock was all she could feel. She still hadn’t said a word. Susan started laughing. LAUGHING.That did it. That brought Emily out of whatever darkness she was in. “You’ll go to the dungeons for this.” Emily told her. Susan laughed even harder. “Wanna bet?? My brother would never allow it. My MOTHER would never allow it.” Susan boasted. “Nick will put you there himself when he finds out what you did.” Emily spat at her. Susan stopped laughing. She looked at Emily dead in the eye. “Oh sweet sweet naive little Emily. Nick already knows. He knew right after it happened. He’s known for ten fucking years!!” Susan yelled. Emily was shaking her head. No. No he couldn’t ha
Emily THE PAST Emily slowly opened her eyes. It was still dark out, but something had woken her. She looked at the clock and saw it was the middle of the night. She turned over.. Nick still hadn’t come to bed. That was normal though. He stayed up all hours of the night working in his office. She turned over to go back to sleep, but seconds later a sound had her eyes popping open again. It was her phone. Someone was calling her. But who would be calling so late? Oh goddess. She hoped nothing was wrong with her dad. She picked it up and answered without looking at the number. But when the person on the other end spoke, her mouth dropped open in shock. If you would’ve asked her who would be calling… anytime… much less the middle of the night, Susan would have been at the very bottom of that list. But here she was. “Emily??” Susan said panicked. “Susan?” Emily answered. “Yes. It’s me. I’m so sorry to wake you. But I need your help.” Susan said, fear in her voice. “What’s
Emily She was going back to her trial that day. Whether she was ready to or not. But she was thankful for the past few days with the kids. They were some she would never forget. Lo had called her last night. He said he’d been thinking about her, and she was glad to hear his voice. Once they’d talked a bit — he told her about the guards training and how full the pack was with all the visitors.. she said she would love to see it one day. She said it without thinking of the implication behind it. But she had only been to Lo’s pack once years ago. It sat it in the northernmost region. Surrounded by majestic mountains and beautiful turquoise lakes, and the tallest pine and sequoia trees, it was an actual heaven on earth. “I would love that.” He told her. After a moment of silence he asked a question that surprised her. “Mo… do you think Nick has a second mate?” ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~That question had been on her mind all night, and was still hanging around this morning. This whole secon
Lorenzo They had finished eating and were cleaning up when Collins walked into the pack house. Lo watched her walk all the way to the kitchen and speak to her mother, then turn and look around until she found his eyes. A small smile landed on her face. Lorenzo cleared his throat and immediately looked away. When he raised his head up again Jarvis was smirking at him. “Shut the fuck up.” Lorenzo said as he walked back towards his office. Jarvis followed him though, clearly not finished throwing jibes at him. “What would her daddy say?” Jarvis joked. Lo sighed. He told his beta to come in his office and close the door. He needed to tell him everything, so he would stop with the poking. He’d probably see alot of looks going on between them and he didn’t feel like listening to Jarvis’s unwelcome narration every damn day. Once he’d told him everything his beta stared at him with a confused look. “So… Nick is Emily’s first mate… and you’re her second mate?” Jarvis said. “We thi
Lorenzo They were coming in the pack house for a break from the rigorous training they’d been doing for a few weeks now. Lorenzo was happy to help train. But at the same time he had other pack duties and responsibilities he needed to be working on. Not to mention his mind was miles and miles away with Emily still. After he’d heard about Charlotte, he wanted to go to her immediately. But because he had been back and forth so much he decided to wait and go for the funeral instead. He had people coming into his territory those days anyway. And he didn’t want to leave Jarvis by himself to deal with all that. He had agreed to house several of the guards from his region that were training for the group that was going to the east. Part of the council had already been to most of the packs in the north, and they needed somewhere to put everybody. So he took in some of them. But that meant housing and food for all these people as well. It was a big undertaking.. and he couldn’t leave and
Emily ……………….……………….It had been two weeks since that day in the hospital when Charlotte took her last breath holding Emily’s hand. Emily had sat there and cried until Dr. Pavarti came in and unhooked Charlotte from all the machines. Something hit Emily in that moment. And she couldn’t hold it in any longer. She screamed. A painful, heart wrenching sound came from her. She screamed some more. Then she screamed again. She got up and ran out of the hospital into the cold night air. And she screamed some more.People were coming outside that had heard her, she’d woken them up in the middle of the night but she didn’t care. Her brothers and Maeve had come to the hospital too. They must’ve been in the waiting room but she didn’t even see them. They stood behind her not saying anything. Alan was a mess… he really liked Charlotte and Emily had hoped they’d end up mates one day. Alice came outside then, tears running down her face as well. But she was holding it together. Emily d
Emily She walked back into Charlotte’s room slowly… not wanting to face what the doctor has told her. Pam walked by her on her way out and laid her hand on her arm. “Just in case it’s what we think it is, tell her goodbye Emily. Most people don’t get that chance. But you do. Tell her everything you want.” Pam whispered as she left the room. She repeated basically exactly what the doctor had told her mere seconds ago. She wondered if they’d practiced that. A way to soften the blow when telling people their lives would forever be changed, and not in a good way. Emily was practicality full on sobbing at this point as Alice turned to her and softly smiled. “A-Alice” Emily stuttered between her sobs. “I just can’t accept what they’re say-saying. It can’t be true.” Alice hugged her tightly and then said:“It happened with my mother when she passed. It seems like the same thing to me.”Emily cried harder. “We would need a miracle Emily and I don’t think it’s coming. I’ve said my
Emily The look on Maeve and Brian’s faces were enough to know it was bad. She didn’t wait on any explanations, or to ask any questions. She just took off running. She ran and ran and ran all the way back into the middle of the territory. Up and down the streets, cutting through woods and peoples yards to get there as fast as she could. She finally saw the hospital up ahead. She slammed through the front door and ran through the waiting room. She kept going. Get to Charlotte. That’s all that mattered. Finally when she got to her room she skidded to a stop. She opened the door and went inside. Dr. Pavarti, Pam, and Alice stood around her bed. Emily closed her eyes, listening. Breaths. Faint but there. She was still alive. “What happened??” Charlotte demanded. At her voice Charlotte’s eyes opened just barely. She had woken up???“Oh goddess!” Emily cried as she ran to the bed. “Charlotte!” She cried and cried and thanked goddess her friend was waking up. “Emily….” Dr. Pavar
