Chapter Two - Betrayed Again

The Guest Quarters were a lot smaller than she was used to, but at this moment in time, Lucy was just grateful to be out of the cold. As soon as she closed the door behind her, she shivered and her teeth began chattering against one another involuntarily.

Cassandra looked back at her in irritation and rolled her eyes as she made her way to the kitchen and flicked the kettle on.

“Go and take a shower and get changed. You look a mess.” She snapped.

Lucy scowled at her and wrapped her arms around herself as she moved across to the fireplace and stood in front of the roaring fire.

“What’s going on Cassy? I thought we were friends..”

Cassandra snorted as she pulled two mugs from the cupboards and set about making drinks for them both.

“I told you to go and shower Lucy. At least get yourself warm before we have this conversation,” she replied imperiously, refusing to meet Lucy’s accusing glare.

Lucy’s wolf was furious at the callous disregard in the way in which she spoke to her.

Regardless of everything, Lucy was still her Luna and she was treating her with an incredible amount of disrespect. As much as her wolf was baying for blood inside of her, they both knew that there was very little that Lucy could do physically at the minute because of her pregnancy.

Shifting at this stage was a risk to their pups and there was no way either of them wanted to risk their precious babies lives…they had dreamed about motherhood for such a long time.

Reluctantly, Lucy turned and made her way to one of the rooms, peeling off the freezing clothes that were stuck to her skin and stepping under the warm jets of the shower, moaning appreciatively as the cold chill was chased from their bones.

When she was done, she slung her damp hair up into a loose bun and changed quickly into an old t-shirt and a pair of joggers that were left here as s standard for any unexpected guests.

No matter how she looked at it, she couldn’t understand how things had come to this point, with so little warning as well. Her stomach churned uneasily as she bent down and scooped her clothes up, bundling them up into a ball and tucking them under her arm as she made her way back into the lounge area.

She paused at the doorway, hearing Cassandra’s voice and as she listened, she realized that she must be on the phone to someone.

“..I know my love. Don’t worry. I’ll take care of it…What? Oh god no, that won’t happen. She’s pregnant so there’s no risk of me getting hurt at all….it won’t be long, I promise..”

The sound of Cassandra laughing forced Lucy’s lip into an unattractive sneer as she realized what a devious little bitch she truly was and she pushed open the door in front of her abruptly, watching with a perverted satisfaction as Cassandra visibly jumped, almost dropping the phone that she was holding in her hand.

“Look, I have to go. Yes..you too. See you soon. Bye.” Cassandra said hurriedly into her phone before hanging up and struggling to hide the guilty look on her face.

“I wasn’t expecting you to finish your shower so quickly..” Cassandra said a little sheepishly as she stirred the mugs in front of her.

“Clearly..” Lucy answered with a raised eyebrow.”Now, are you going to tell me what the fuck is going on here? I’m fairly sure I know already. but I’d quite like to hear it from your own mouth before I pass judgment.” Lucy said coldly as she took a seat on the couch in front of the fire, enjoying the radiating warmth that it threw out across the room.

She watched Cassandra out of the corner of her eye as she picked the mugs up and carried them over, placing one in front of Lucy before taking a seat on the sofa next to her and sipping nonchalantly from the mug in her hands.

“I don't know what you want me to say, Lucy.”

“The truth would be a good start seeing as how you accused me of being a barefaced liar in front of my mate.” Lucy hissed, digging her nails into the palm of her hands as she desperately tried to distract herself from the urge to tear her face to shreds.

Cassandra laughed lightly.

“If it makes you feel any better, he wasn’t as good in bed as I thought he would be,” She smirked as she waited for Lucy’s reaction.

But it never came.

Lucy had already assumed that this was what was going on. She just wanted to hear her say it so that she could defend herself properly at the hearing with the Elders tomorrow.

Cassandra frowned at the small smile that played on Lucy’s face as she reached for her mug on the coffee table and held it tightly in her hands.

“You know..whatever you think you have with Noah, it won’t last. Even when he rejects me, and I know he will, that much is clear, do you really think that his wolf will reject the natural bond that it shares with his own child?” Lucy chuckled lightly, “You can deny it all you like Cassy, but an Alpha will always prioritize the safety of his pups, over the safety of his Luna…and you won't even be his fated so the bond with you will be even weaker.”

Lucy smiled softly as she sipped at the drink and watched with satisfaction as the realization dawned on Cassandra’s face that the babies that Lucy carried now would most likely return to claim their rightful place at the head of the pack when they came of age, and there was nothing that she could do about it.

Cassandra quickly schooled her face and adopted a simpering smile that Lucy wanted to wipe off with the back of her hand, but she resisted.

“You can’t really be considering going through with the pregnancy?” Cassandra gasped in mock horror, “How disgusting. A rejected she-wolf and a disgraced luna bringing up pups on her own…you do realize after tomorrow you’ll be nothing but a rogue? There’s no way that Noah will allow you to stay in the pack!”

Lucy stared in disbelief at Cassandra. Was she really suggesting terminating the pregnancy at this late stage?!

“Are you fucking insane? I have just over a month left until my pups are here you sick twisted bitch…how dare you say that I'm the disgusting one when you’re suggesting murdering innocent babies!” Lucy fumed, her temper getting the better of her.

Cassandra shrugged and sipped at her tea again.

“They’re bastard pups with no place in our society at all. They’d be better off dead rather than facing the struggles of life as a rogue. Let me call the pack doctor for you Lucy, I’m sure they can arrange something to sort this little problem out.” she said with a dismissive wave of her hand towards Lucy’s pregnant stomach.

Lucy glared furiously at her as she slammed her mug on the table and stood angrily ready to roar her objections at her but she suddenly found herself incredibly lightheaded and swayed a little on the spot before collapsing back on the sofa.

What was happening to her? Why did she suddenly feel so damn sleepy all of a sudden?

Her body felt sluggish and objected to her attempts at movement as she turned her head slightly to see Cassandra’s smug smile as she sipped on her tea.

“Don't fight it, Lucy. It’s easier this way for everyone.” She grinned.

Despite Lucy’s desperate attempts to fight the descent of her eyelids, against her will and her wolf’s raging attempts to fight off the sedative that invaded their system, it wasn’t enough and the sensation of her being pulled back into a bottomless black pit engulfed her as her eyelids finally closed.
