Seraphine’s Point of View
"Tonight, on the first full moon of this year, we all gather to witness the union of Seraphine Wildfrost and Maximus Wilder. A bond forged under the light of the full moon is unbreakable, a testament to love, loyalty and strength." I fought the urge to grimace at what I just heard. A threatening glare from Maximus made me swallow which I instantly regretted when his eyes followed the movements of my throat. The raw hunger in it made my stomach coil in disgust. Testament to love my ass. "Maximus," the elder who was officiating the wedding called out. "Do you vow to protect Seraphine, to stand by her side through every trial and success, through sickness and health, and to cherish her with all your heart?" Maximus flashed me a smile before responding in a loud, confident voice: "I do." My heart clenched tightly at the pure happiness and possessiveness in his brown eyes. "Seraphine. Do you vow to support Maximus, to share in his joys and burden, and to love him with all your heart?" I swallowed the lump in my throat, my heart beating erratically in my chest as I tried to force out the answer I promised to myself will only be told once, to the only man I will truly love for eternity, not the man who forced his way to have me despite knowing I would never love him the way he wants me to. Tears welled up in my eyes. To others who didn't know what truly happened, they'd think it's tears of joy. But to my pack members who are watching now, they know this is far from joy. It's the tears of someone resigned to an eternity of hell. "I... I..." Maximus' smile slowly faded. His eyes darkened as his hold on my hands tightened a bit. "Seraphine," he mumbled in a tight voice. I shut my eyes tightly before forcing out the words that would condemn me to a life of imprisonment. "I... do." I'm so, so, sorry, Cassius. ### [A week before the wedding] "What got my dutiful husband so busy he didn't have time for me anymore?" Cassius lifted his head to look at me, and the look in his eyes made me regret my joke. The dark circles under his eyes paired with the guilt in his vibrant blue eyes made me realise that he took my joke to his heart. "Sera. I'm sor-" "Cassius, love, I'm just joking. You don't have to apologise," I said, quickly cutting off his apology. I stood behind the chair he's sitting on as I took a look at what he's reading. "Is that from the Viperclaw Pack?" Cassius breathed out heavily and then he hummed in affirmation. "They are asking for a negotiation to share the north side of the forest, just a few meters away from the border between our pack and theirs." "For what?" "They didn't say in the letter. I believe they will tell me during the meeting." I raised an eyebrow. "You're actually considering it?" "Why not? I want to see what they can offer for us." "Of course," I said, fondly rolling my eyes at my husband. "Hey, mind telling me why Maximus is always travelling to different places? The last I heard of him was six months ago, I think? And he said he's been busy travelling. I’ve been meaning to ask you but I keep on forgetting it.” "The Elders and I had assigned him to form an alliance with the West packs since we're already allied with the East and a few of the North packs have been reaching out to us." I nodded my head in understanding. "Yeah, that's a great strategy. Maximus is the best choice when dealing with alliances." "Never been more grateful to have him in our pack." I smiled at Cassius, then I leaned down to kiss him. But just as our lips met, a loud crash followed by several howls permeated the whole area. Cassius and I immediately stood, my Luna senses prickled in dread as I recognized what kind of howls I just heard. "Someone ambushed our territory," Cassius voiced out my own realisation. His eyes hardened as he strides out of his personal office in the homestead. Once outside, the gruesome scene made my heart drop. Unfamiliar black and grey wolves were attacking and seizing down our defenceless pack members. Some of them laid injured on the ground, some gathered cowering on the side as they watched the strangers tackled down their family and friends. "Alpha! Alpha! A lot of our men have been severely injured! Some... some are dead in the woods where they were ambushed..." Luster, the Lead General, came running to us. He was breathing heavily, whole body filled with dirt and bruises. His voice thick with emotion but still managed to keep it clear enough for us to realise the damage the ambush had caused. Cassius' eyes darkened, his fists clenched tightly on his side. In a flash, he transformed into his wolf form. He let out a long, anguished, yet challenging howl. Whatever is happening around instantly stopped at the frightening howl of our pack's furious Alpha. The group of invaders moved aside in one motion, as if making way for someone. Then a familiar dark brown wolf slowly walked on the makeshift path, directly to our direction. "Maximus!" I exclaimed in relief. Thank heavens he's finally h- The mocking growl he released made me freeze on my spot. He stopped a few feet away from Cassius, then they both returned to their human form. "Maximus. What the fuck do you think you're doing?" Cassius asked in that dangerous low voice he always unconsciously used whenever he was mad. It sent shivers down my spine, my stomach churning not in the usual awe I feel but in fear. “And who are all these wolves prancing and attacking my pack?” “Why, they’re my people, Silverton. You did not think the missions you have sent me to were for you, right?” Cassius' eyes went blank. “I see. So all this time, you are forging an alliance for yourself?” “You got it right, Alpha,” he mocked my mate, not bothering to hide his contempt at what he called Cassius. “Since you are acting mighty and high right now to the point you even attacked my pack, state what you came for and I will ponder what kind of punishment I would give you for your treason.” Maximus’ eyes went cold.. "Cassius," he called out in that smug and proud voice of his. Then he flashed a grin. "I'm here to challenge you." "Maximus!" I yelled out furiously. I took a step beside my husband. "What are you talking about? Stop this nonsense! You’ve already caused a lot of damage! Several of our pack members are injured, and some of them are already dead!" He turned his attention to me, an eyebrow raised. "Ah, my dearest best friend. It's devastating, isn't it? However, their deaths are necessary so I can prove myself worthy of challenging your husband." The way he spat the last word made my skin crawl. His eyes held so many emotions that I couldn't discern, but the most prominent one is blind rage towards Cassius. "Necessary?! Are you hearing yourself, Maximus?! Stop this right away!" "As much as I held you in high regard, my dear Seraphine, I would refuse your request for now. There's much more pressing matter to do." "That is not a request, you traitor!" Maximus' eyes flashed darkly. "Enough, Sera." I glanced at my husband. "Cassius?" "Stand back and let me handle this traitor." Despite wanting to protest like a petulant child, I backed away from him. It's a matter concerning only the Alpha after all, no matter if I'm his wife and the Luna of the pack. It's the Alpha that was challenged by another. I have full confidence in Cassius' ability and strength. He's been the Alpha of the Silvercrest Pack for seven years already, and he's been trained for it since he started to walk. But the look of confidence and rage in Maximus' eyes made me fear the results of this fight. Maximus has always been strong and powerful in his own ways, but he was never in the same league as Cassius. While my husband is great at brawling, Maximus is the brain of our pack. He's far more intelligent than our Alpha. What he lacks in strength, he makes up with his unrivalled wit. "Maximus." Amusement was visible in the traitor's eyes as he regarded our Alpha. "Cassius," he trailed off. "I challenged Cassius Silverton to a death match." My eyes went wide at his declaration. "Really, Maximus? My throne?" Cassius scoffed. "After all this time, you're still bitter over the fact that your best friend, your first and most beloved woman, is my mate?" Maximus growled, canines flashing in contempt. "You stole her from me! You took her away!" I watched in stunned disbelief as my best friend screamed incredulous remarks to my husband. All this time, Maximus is in love with me? How can I not notice it before? "I stole nothing, traitor," Cassius calmly stated. "The Moon Goddess has seen us fit with each other, and so we were fated to be mates." "The Moon Goddess is fallacious! Untrue! A fraud!" Gasps and indignant cries rippled through the place upon hearing Maximus insults over the divine lady. Some of them were screaming profanities to Maximus, some were outright cursing him to die. It made Maximus even more mad. "STOP! Shut the fuck up!" He yelled at the others. "I challenged Cassius Silverton to a death match! Or are you too frightened to accept it, which is why you're prolonging this conversation?" "I am simply giving you more time to think about what you're saying. But it seems you've already decided on this." "Of course, I am! I've been waiting for this moment for years!" "Very well," Cassius coldly muttered. "Luna Seraphine, make sure no one tries to intervene in the match." With that, Cassius walked towards the large circle in front of the homestead. I anxiously trailed behind, still making sure everyone else is inside the safety barrier. Once both of them were inside the circle, Maximus wasted no time in lunging. Cassius gracefully slid away to avoid the brown wolf. He transformed smoothly and revealed his sleek, large wolf form as black as the moonless night. Maximus growled again, but didn't attack. They circled around each other, muscles rippling, canines grinding in an attempt to intimidate the other. Neither of them breaks eye contact. It was Maximus who struck first. He aimed for Cassius' throat with a vicious howl, but was avoided smoothly by sidestepping, seeming like he anticipated the move. Cassius retaliated with a powerful strike to his legs. Maximus howled in pain, but it didn't stop him from attacking. They exchanged strikes and bites, but neither seemed to land a fatal blow. I was getting restless in my spot, despite knowing that Cassius seemed to have the upper hand. Several shrieks resounded the spectator's area when Cassius surged in a blur of motion. He tackled a recovering Maximus on the ground, rolling in a flurry of teeth and claws, and Cassius was the victor who emerged on top. He has a foot on Maximus' throat where a visible cut can be seen, and his jaw clamped on one of Maximus' arms. Cassius let out a growl so deep and resonant it echoed with so much authority and threat that got the tackled brown wolf whining submissively beneath the Alpha. My eyebrow raised in confusion when Cassius moved away from Maximus. From the way his body relaxed, he must've interpreted the whine as a submission and yielding. But seeing how Maximus didn't relax and went limp, I knew Cassius made a big mistake by turning his back on the enemy. "CASSIUS! NO! IT'S NOT YET D-" I wasn't able to finish warning my husband when someone clamped a hand tightly in my mouth. I tried to remove it, but they're far stronger than I am. So I watched helplessly as Maximus stood up and surged forward, towards Cassius who belatedly realised what I was trying to convey to him. In a quick motion, Maximus landed a powerful strike on Cassius' throat. His claws formed a long, deep cut on Cassius' throat. The blood wasn't visible on his black fur, but a lot of his blood streamed down the ground. I let out a strangled cry as I managed to break free from the strong hold on my person. "No... Cassius! No..." I wailed in despair as I tried to run in my husband's direction. But before I could even reach him, someone had tackled me on the ground. "No! Move away! Get off me! Cassius..." I cried out frantically. I turned around to look at my husband, and he was already looking at me. He already transformed back into his human form, his body completely naked this time as he had no more control of his transformation. There were a lot of bruises and cuts on his body, but the most prominent one was on his throat right where my mark is. "Cassius..." I muttered. His hand tried to reach out despite having no strength. The light and fire in his eyes are slowly fading. "Cassius..." "S-sera..." I saw him mumble, before the life in his eyes faded and his eyes shut completely. He laid there on the ground, devoid of life.Seraphine’s Point of View "Cassius..." I continued to weep for my fallen husband even as I felt someone hoisting me up from the ground. "Come on, Raph. Cassius is already dead. Let's get you back to your room." I bristled at Maximus’ words. I slapped his reaching hands away from me as I took a step away from him. My grief and anger are getting the best of me. My mind is swirling with violent thoughts as I glared at my husband's murderer. "Step the fuck away from me, you traitorous bastard!" I shouted at him, pouring all my anger and pain on it as much as I could. I need an outlet for all the emotions that are occupying my whole being, because if I bottle it up inside me, it might explode tragically. "Seraphine. It has to be done." His words did nothing but enrage me even more. "Fuck you, Wilder! Just fuck you! I don't know what you want to achieve by killing my mate, but I'm telling you, you won't ever succeed on it! No traitorous bastard ever succeeds in their evil dee
Seraphine's Point of View "Stay here for the meantime. I will just have to talk to someone. It wouldn't take long, okay?" Maximus softly said, then he kissed my forehead before leaving our room. Our room. Calling it ours still felt weird. I could even taste the bitterness in my mind. But there's no more use denying it, or even trying to rebel against him. He knows my weakness. Of course, he does. He's been my best friend before he turned into this obsessive psycho that he is. We've known each other since we were twelve. We stuck to each other for the longest time. It was once us against the world. But now... I felt myself trembling as a long, racking sob came out when everything hit me at once. It was once Maximus and I against the world, before I met Cassius. It was us who did everything together before I met my mate. But now, I'm just alone. My mate is not here, my best friend is no longer the same. It's Maximus who is causing me so much pain and distress right now. Ca
Seraphine's Point of View It's so weird returning to my twelve-year old self with my twenty-nine years old mind. I could still remember how I was during my younger years— immature, sharp-tongue, and a fiery temper. It just lessened as I grew older, until I met Cassius and my temper got the best of me most of the time but it eventually matured when we fell in love with each other. My heart twinged a bit at the reminder of my mate. I wouldn't meet him until later when I was sixteen. That's four years from now. The thought of seeing his younger self makes me nervous, yet I still yearn to see his face and feel his presence. For the one week that had passed since he died, I continued to see his lifeless blue eyes looking at me. Even in my dreams, it still haunted me. So when I woke up every morning, my wolf had been itching to break free and run far away- away from the man who had killed our mate. I suddenly bristled when I realized something. My wolf... I can't feel her. The re
Seraphine's Point of View "See you tomorrow!" I enthusiastically exclaimed while waving my goodbye to one of the kids. "Come on. It's getting dark already," Maximus whispered behind me while gently pulling the hem of my shirt. "Have you bid goodbye to the others?" I asked him as we started our way back to our pack village. The other kids walked ahead of us. Maximus shakes his head. I raised an eyebrow at him. "Why?" "I will get to see them tomorrow; why say goodbye?" He muttered, his face flushed. "And... I'm still shy around them..." I chuckled, making him blushed even deeply. "That's perfectly alright, Max. You'll come around eventually." I reassured him while patting his back softly. The beaming smile he responded made me smile as well. It was a long trek back to our village where our parents had been waiting for us to come back. This is our routine during school days, which I kind of forgot amid the flurry of events that occurred. So when I caught a glimpse of my wa
Cassius' Point of View I pressed my ears on the door of the meeting room at the homestead just to hear clearly what the Elders and my parents are talking about this time. It's been a while since they had a meeting that made my parents so tense. So it is no wonder I'm curious beyond what's right, and which is why I'm secretly listening to the meeting. I am the soon to be Alpha of our pack, of the honorable Silvercrest Pack. Our family has been leading it for centuries and so far, no one has been able to take it away from us. None of the members had any issues with how our family leads as well, nor did they have the guts to protest if there ever was. It's not like anyone's capable of leading our pack aside from us. So it's really not that much of a worry. "Is everyone here already?" I heard my father's deep and commanding voice speak. A series of 'yes, Alpha' resounded across the room. "Alright. Elder Sebastian? You can start with your report." "Thank you, Alpha," I pressed mys
Seraphine's Point of View "Have you heard what the adults are up to?" I raised an eyebrow at Leilani. "What?" She sat on the chair in front of me. "I've been seeing some adults gathering at the bonfire area every other night. I think they're talking about something important. Maybe plans? They seemed too serious for it to be just a simple gathering of adults." "Plans for what?" I asked. "It's not like we're a proper pack. We don't even have a leader." "We don't?" Leilani asked, her voice raised a bit in surprise. I blinked several times at her. She didn't know? "All along, I thought it was your parents..." she trailed off. "Cause, you know, they're the healers in our village?" I shake my head in disagreement. "No, they weren't the leaders. We have no leader, because we are not a proper pack. My parents are just known healers because they were the only ones who had the knowledge about medicine and the like, but they weren't the Alpha and Luna." "How come we didn't know
Seraphine's Point of View Was it a premonition? It feels so real in my dreams. The sight of him marrying another woman whose face is blurred, them speaking their vows, and then the long, intimate kiss they shared... What prompted my mind to dream about it? And then suddenly, a thought struck up in my mind. What if I changed some things here in my second life, some things from the past change? What if the changes I did affected the others? The Moon Goddess didn't guarantee that things will remain the same when I return to the living realm, just that I will return to the root of the problem and change the future. What if... even the smallest change results in an entirely different course of events? What if it changed something that has always been constant to me? Fear struck my whole being, my chest constricting painfully at the thought of my mate, Cassius, having another mate in this lifetime. Cassius having a different girl in his arms, Cassius looking fondly at the girl,
Seraphine's Point of View "Alright there, Sera?" I offered Leilani a small smile. "A bit." She offered the other half of her triangle sandwich as she claimed the empty space beside me. I raised an eyebrow at her even as I took it. "I noticed you still haven't eaten, and break time's gonna end soon. I'm full already, so you can have it," she explained. "Thanks," I replied. "So. You and Maximus aren't on good terms?" Of course, someone else would notice. It was obvious that we're not fine, seeing that there's no Maximus clinging to me like an overexcited puppy. The said puppy is currently drawing on the sand using a stick he picked up. He's at the same place where I befriended him. He has been ignoring me for three days. Not even a glance at my way. He didn't attend the nighttime play out with the other kids, he didn't walk beside me as we went home after classes. The guilt I've been feeling since I realised how harsh I have been to him continued to grow, yet I couldn'
Seraphine’s Point of View“Do you play this kind of game?” I shook my head. “I played hide and seek and other chasing games with the kids back in our previous village, but not any ball games.”Josiah smiled charmingly at me. If I wasn’t so in love with Cassius, and if I didn’t know him from our previous life, I would probably fall for his charm.“Do you like playing tiring games?”Despite being cautious of these guys, I still tried my best to be polite and friendly with them. So to avoid being miserable the whole time I spend with them, I might as well try to enjoy it.Smiling, I nodded. “I prefer it to mind games.”Josiah laughed heartily, throwing his head back. “Who the fuck even likes mind games?”“That guy over there,” I responded at the same time someone behind me said. “Maximus, that swot.”I turned around to see who it was.Augustus Ferrell. The youngest son of the Ferrells, who were members of the Council and Circle. An old family too in this town, so they’re well known in t
Seraphine’s Point of View“I can’t believe we’ll find out about our mates next year,” Leilani mumbled beside me as she sipped her grape juice. “We just met our wolf last year! How time flies so fast.”“It’s been just a few weeks since New Year, Leil,” I said.“Am I wrong? It’s still last year!”I shook my head, not bothering to counter her words.“I don’t want to be eighteen yet...”I turned to Leilani, eyes wide in surprise. “What? I thought you were looking forward to meeting your mate?”“That was before Luster confessed to me,” she flashed a wistful smile. “I wanted him as my mate. I’ve liked him for so long, Sera. I thought I liked Clove, but Luster’s just different.”“Are you afraid that Luster isn’t your mate?”She nodded. My heart clenched at the thought that they really weren’t mates. But... she could still reject her mate. I feel so bad thinking about it, but Leilani and Luster are my friends. I want them to be happy.“I don’t want to reject whoever my mate will be. I can’t d
Seraphine’s Point of View“Are you an enemy... or an ally?”George blinked his eyes multiple times before he burst into laughter. “What are you talking about, Sera?” He asked after he recovered from his laughter.I raised an eyebrow as I crossed my arms on my chest. “Cut the act, George. My wolf is smart, and I know your wolf is aware of it too, that's why you didn’t attend my birthday celebration yesterday.”I just realised it right now as well. For the past few birthdays I had, George is always present. Aiah also told me that George wasn’t really sick. Wolves can smell that. So the only probable reason why he didn’t attend my celebration is because his wolf had told him about my wolf. It seemed his wolf had recognised my scent, I just didn’t know how they knew it was me.He was avoiding meeting me because he knew I’d found out about him being a time-traveler.George paled, but he quickly masked it by chuckling and shaking his head. Unfortunately for him, he’s obviously nervous. “I
Cassius’ Point of ViewSomething changed in the air between my brother and Seraphine, but I couldn’t determine what it was. I just know something shifted the day Seraphine went to the Homestead with me, looking for George. She came to my room after talking with my brother, looking dazed and rather distracted. They became closer, for some reason. They don’t hang out as often as we do but Seraphine would visit him in his room before she visits me when she comes to the Homestead. She hasn’t done that before. It sparked the burning jealousy inside my chest. I don’t like feeling this way, but I couldn’t help it.Especially because my confession plan for Seraphine’s birthday was a massive failure.First, the banner I made was destroyed when I spilled my coffee on it the morning of her birthday. I wasn’t able to redo it again, so I decided not to do it anymore. So I focused on baking a cake for her— chocolate truffle cake. Daniel taught me how to do this when I visited their house. I didn’
Seraphine’s Point of View ‘I hate it. I hate it. I hate it. I hate it.’ I put the book I’m trying to read down on the table, groaning at my wolf’s incessant rant in our mind link. ‘Stop it, Aiah. You’re giving me a headache.’ ‘Because I hate it, Sera! He doesn’t remember you at all! That just means Azi doesn’t remember me either!’ I sighed, feeling bad for my wolf. ‘I’m sorry, Aiah.’ ‘It’s not your fault. It’s that stupid Maximus and Jax’s fault! They’re the reason why our mates don’t remember us anymore! Why we have to suffer these one-sided memories!’ ‘It will be alright in time, Aiah. There’s a lot of time for you to get closer with Azi. Don’t let the past ruin your chances of being with your mate again. Just do what I did, alright? I’ll help you, Aiah.’ My wolf seemed to calm down at that, though I could still hear her growling in displeasure and anger. At least she stopped her whining, because I couldn’t focus on what I was reading. Aiah got to meet Cassius yesterd
Seraphine’s Point of ViewTwenty fucking minutes.I still have to wait for twenty minutes before my birthday comes. Twenty more minutes before I meet Aiah again.Just like in my first life, I wasn’t able to sleep properly as I waited for my birthday to come. It’s like the first time all over again. But can anyone blame me? Meeting one’s wolf is one of the most important events in our lives. The memories and feelings during that moment your wolf manifested are something no one can forget anytime soon.“Sweetie, will you sit down here and drink your tea before I tie you on the chair?”I pouted at my mother. But before I could respond, dad came to my rescue.“Let the child feel excited, Cecil. You’ve been in her place once. Surely, you’d remember the restless excitement everyone feels while waiting for their birthday.”I nodded in agreement while mom glared at the two of us. “Fine, but don’t do that in front of me. I’m getting dizzy from all your back and forth.”Saluting my mother, I he
Seraphine’s Point of View“Welcome back!” I smiled while watching Cassius as he was greeted and welcomed warmly by our classmates. It only faded when I noticed most of the girls taking the opportunity to cling to him.My brows furrowed, lips pursing in displeasure. These opportunistic, two-faced girls! “What got you frowning so early in the morning?”I didn’t deign an answer to Luster’s question. I just slumped on my seat, closing my eyes. I could feel him and Leilani exchanging glances, and I knew for sure they were talking again using their eyes.Cassius wasn’t supposed to attend classes again until next week, but he told his parents he felt like he'd already lost so much time. And also because he’d be bored to death if he stayed alone at home for another week. I started attending classes again a week after Cassius woke up. I visited him two hours before I went to school— which means I woke early— and after class until before dinner. His mother cried when she heard the word ‘death
Seraphine’s Point of ViewThe hidden falls was something that I didn’t want to share with my other friends, even though Luster and Cassius knew about it. I only showed it to Leilani so she knew about its existence, but I didn’t want to hang out with them there. The lake is our preferable place to hang out.For me, I feel sentimental about this place because Maximus and I reconciled here years ago. We rarely come here, but when we do, it’s always memorable.“Let’s go up there,” I said, pointing at the humongous rock. Maximus nodded and he went there first, helping me as I climbed up. “Go there at the other rock,” I told him.His brows furrowed in confusion. “What? Why?”I sat down and pulled the painting materials out of the paper bag. “I’m going to paint you.”His jaw dropped, a look of utter surprise on his face as he looked at the materials I was holding. “I... I didn’t know you could paint.”I shrugged. “Because I never told you about it. I rarely do these, so you should feel hono
Seraphine’s Point of ViewI don’t know how long I was staring at the moon from the balcony of my room. I just came here to clear my mind, but the moon above caught my attention and I couldn’t keep my eyes away from it anymore.Lady Selene... are you watching over me? Can you see what I’ve done to the timeline? I couldn’t recognise it anymore because of all the changes I brought. If you’re watching me right now, I hope you could at least give me a hint if I’m doing things right...But no, she’s not allowed to do that even if she wants to. I huffed softly. I miss Aiah. I’m so excited to meet her again. If she still remembers our first life, I hope she’s happy that Azi remained the same. Though she might get annoyed at the fact Cassius considered another name for his wolf.I can already imagine her non-stop admonishment. I used to get so annoyed at her whenever she did that before, but I just miss it so much right now.“Raph.”I turned around to face Maximus. When did he enter my room?
