Josh was taken aback when, out of nowhere, his grandfather suggested that he and Lilith should get married. Shocked by the unexpected proposal, Josh felt a wave of disbelief and discomfort. Marriage was nowhere on his agenda, especially considering he didn't know Lilith at all.

The fact that his grandfather would make such a decision without consulting him first, made Josh feel hurt and unimportant. He felt like his grandfather didn't value his opinion or care about his feelings. It seemed to Josh that his grandfather was treating him as a tool to strengthen his own relationship with the Washington family. Josh couldn't help but feel bad about himself and his place in this new world he had just been thrown into. The suddenness of the announcement left him confused and struggling to understand the strange dynamics of his newfound family.

Why would I need to hide the people I do business with Giovanni? All my business especially are legal.” Antonio who had been quite the whole time, finally joined in, saying, “We are talking about you doing business with our rivals, the Santos family.” He said cold, his words sending a shiver down Mr Washington's spine. Josh felt a cold metal barrel tap into his back, sending a shiver down his spine. "Who is this?" he asked, his voice trembling with unease."Don't move," a female voice commanded from behind him, the gun pressing harder against his skin. Josh's heart pounded in his chest, his mind struggling to process the situation. What was going on? A woman? Here on the front porch of the mansion, holding a gun to his back?Strangely, despite the fear shooting through his veins, Josh couldn't shake off a strange sense of fascination. He liked the scent of the woman's perfume, as It was a scent that spoke of elegance and refinement, worlds away from the dangerous situation he was now faced with. The woman, questioned him with a gun still pointed at him, "Who are you, and what are you doing here?"Josh, still feeling the gun pressing down his neck, was wondering how he could get out of this situation as he answered. “I'm... I'm Josh." He replied, trying to get a glimpse of the person pointing a gun a

Surprised by the statement, Josh was puzzled. Who was this person calling him, and claiming to be his father? Perhaps it was a wrong number, he thought to himself. And it made sense that the person who had called him had dialed the wrong number, because Josh didn't have a dad as far as he knew. "Sorry, who's this? I think you've called the wrong person," Josh responded casually.“No, no, Josh, I think I've called the ring person.” The man over the phone insisted. “Your name is Josh, and you go to Elysium university,” The man said, eager to prove to Josh that he was his dad.Josh was taken aback by the fact that the man knew his name and had addressed him by it,,“How do you know my name?” “Do you believe me now?” The man asked. The man's insistence had Josh on edge. Sitting on the front porch, he held the phone to his ear, his mind racing. "I don't have a dad," he muttered, trying to make sense of the surreal conversation. He was a 100 percent sure that the man was lying, perhaps tryi

Instantly as Josh's classmate blurted out, while looking in the direction Josh was coming from, he attracted a lot of attention from the other students who had already arrived. They all turned in the same direction to see Josh. And the moment they laid eyes on him, Looks of surprise filtered out among the students, as they saw Josh, now dressed impeccably. It was very surprising to them, witnessing Josh, who was known to be the least affluent among them, now dressed in luxurious outfits.Their disbelief was evident. For as long as they could recall, Josh's attire had always been shabby, a reflection of his financial struggles. Therefore, seeing him adorned in such luxurious attire left them speechless, wondering how on earth he could afford such outfits.“Is that really, Josh?” “Yeah, that's him”"But what happened to him? He looks so different now," the students whispered among themselves, trying to fathom the sudden change in Josh's appearance. As they whispered among themselves,

His gaze fixated on the new professor, who also turned out to be the same person who Kathy betrayed him with, Josh felt a surge of anger build up inside him. The classroom seemed to fade away, the voices of his classmates blurring into a distant hum Josh's entire focus was on Carlos, his eyes burning with a mix of fury and resentment. He clenched his fists tightly, his muscles tensing as he struggled to contain the rage that threatened to consume him.It wasn't the fact that, his ex girlfriend had cheated on him, with Carlos that made Josh resent the man, it was the fact that he got beat up pretty badly and humiliated by him, and If it wasn't for the lady that had stopped the henchmen from beating him up even further, then the henchmen would have done even more damage to him. Now all Josh wanted was payback.Carlos, the lecturer, his gaze darting around the room, looking at his students as he addressed them, had a slightly surprised expression when his eyes met with Josh's. He was s

Josh's words echoed through the room, and they had Carlos fuming at him, his veins bulging. The audacity of Josh! How dare he make such a remark about him? Had he lost his mind? Carlos had hoped to provoke Josh into an outburst, something that would paint him as a disrespectful and unruly student. However, this direct insult, labeling him as a creep, was beyond anything he had anticipated. The other students let out gasps in astonishment , they couldn't believe the guts that Josh had. Did Josh, just insult a teacher, as authorative and intimidating as Carlos? He must have lost his mind for doing that, everyone knew that crossing Mr. Carlos was a recipe for disaster, yet Josh had brazenly done just that. It was clear that Josh had underestimated the seriousness of his actions. He must have lost his mind, because no one in their right mind would dare to speak to a teacher with such disrespect. His impulsive behavior had just showed everyone his lack of respect for the teacher, and his

Mr Ramirez turned to Mr Delgado saying, “A word with you Mr Delgado?” Mr Delgado gave a nod before walking away with Mr Ramirez, leaving Josh alone. Josh was too preoccupied with his thoughts to fully pay attention to them as they walked away.He moved towards the grand windows, gazing out at the estate. The villa was beautiful, but that wasn’t what occupied his mind. It was what this place meant to him: A piece of his past, one he could barely remember, but was now in his hands. His fingers lightly brushed the nearby table as he walked, trying to find some sort of connection to this place. He closed his eyes, trying to remember some memory that would surface. But there was nothing. Just emptiness. He was too young to remember ever living here, so he couldn't remember everything. But, how could he expect to recall a place he left when he was just a toddler? The sound of footsteps pulled him from his thoughts. He turned to see his grandfather walking back inside with Mr. Delgado.“Ar

Josh pushed the thought aside. He wasn’t ready to deal with that yet. Besides, this was his grandfather he was talking about, so why would Giovanni discard him aside?Mr Ramirez studied him for a second. “I'm sorry for how everyone else treats you. I'm sure they'll come around eventually.” He assured. Josh could only hope that will be the case soon. He let out a short laugh. “Are you sure about that? Catalina looks at me like I don’t belong. Marco and Isabella don’t even bother hiding it. Matteo’s the only one who treats me like an actual person.” It was not his intention to let everything out, however the words slipped out before he could stop them. His grandfather was quiet for a long moment. Then he said, “Catalina loved your mother.”Josh’s expression shifted. Really? He didn't want to believe that. If Catalina and his mother were indeed close, she wouldn't look at her sister’s son like he was the problem.Mr. Ramirez continued, “She loved her deeply. Losing her… broke something

“And when you find him? What happens then?” He asked.Josh watched his grandfather closely, waiting for his answer. Whatever Mr. Ramirez chose to do with Reaper would say a lot about the kind of man he truly was.It was safe to say Josh didn’t know his grandfather that well. He had power, control, and influence, but what kind of person was he underneath it all?“He’ll face justice. What do you think?” Mr Ramirez said. “We’ll hand him over to the authorities.”Josh hadn’t expected to hear that.If this had been Giovanni, Reaper wouldn’t have made it past sunrise. No trial. No mercy. Josh still remembered how effortlessly his other grandfather had executed those two men for betraying him, no hesitation in his actions. This was the difference between Mr. Ramirez and Giovanni. One believed in fairness, the other in ruthless control.Josh was happy to see that his grandfather from his mom's side was a different person from Giovanni.Just then, Catalina walked in, her sharp gaze immediately

Josh ignored Catalina. But he also didn’t bother trying to go with them to see Matteo. Mr. Ramirez shot Catalina a cold look in disapproval. “If it weren’t for Josh, Matteo wouldn’t have made it here in time.” He scolded.Catalina said nothing, but she had a slight look of realization across her face. No matter how she felt about Josh, it was thanks to him and the other two people that Matteo was here at the hospital in time. She, Dean, Marco, and Isabella went inside the ICU where Matteo was.Josh stayed back, leaning against the wall. He didn’t show it, but the rejection bothered him. When Marco and Isabella made it clear they didn’t accept him, it bothered him, but not that much. Catalina, though… She was his deceased mother’s sister. He expected her to treat him with at least some kindness. Guess he was wrong for thinking that.Josh exhaled slowly, pushing the thought aside. He wasn’t about to beg for acceptance. If they didn’t want him around, fine.Without another word, he tur

Mr. Ramirez’s gaze remained cold as he looked at Dante. “Where is this… Reaper?” he asked Dante hesitated, shaking his head in denial. “I… I don’t know, sir.”Mr. Ramirez studied him for a long moment, his expression unreadable. Before he could say anything else, the waiting room doors burst open.Mateo’s parents, Catalina and Dean, rushed inside, their faces filled with worry. Marco followed closely behind them, equally as worried.“Dad, how is my son? Where is Mateo?” Catalina asked, her voice shaking.Josh tensed as he watched them. It was the first time he had ever seen Mateo’s parents in person. Since Matteo was his cousin, then the woman must be his mom's sister, his aunt. Josh also noticed a resemblance between her and him, it was subtle but still noticeable. Mr. Ramirez turned to them. “I have spoken to the doctor. He is stable… we’ll be able to see him soon.”A shaky breath of relief escaped Dean's mouth. “Thank God.”Catalina clutched her husband’s arm, but the worry in

Reaper stepped back, yanking the knife free from Mateo's side.Mateo staggered backward, his hand instinctively flying to his side, pressing against the wound. He felt weak, struggling to stay on his feet.Warm blood seeped between his fingers. His breath came out in uneven gasps, his body refusing to keep up with what had just happened. He did not think Reaper would pull a knife and take this too far.Josh was in shock for 5 full seconds, but as soon as he was back to his senses he called out, “Mateo!” He lunged forward, catching his cousin before he could collapse completely. The garage fell into stunned silence. Even The Ghosts looked momentarily unsure, shifting uncomfortably as if they hadn't expected Reaper to take it this far.Leo swore under his breath and rushed to Mateo’s side. “Shit. Quick, we need to get him out of here. Now.”Dante, who had been frozen in shock, suddenly snapped back to reality. He turned to Reaper, his expression unreadable. “What the fuck did you just do

Mateo exhaled loudly, his irritation evident. “I can’t believe Dante invited those guys,” he muttered, shaking his head.Just then, as if summoned by the complaint, a man around Mateo’s age approached them. “What’s up, fellas?” he greeted cheerfully, completely ignorant to Mateo’s scowl.Mateo frowned as he glared at him. “Dante, what the fuck! You invited that guy here?” He asked angrily, but in a hushed tone. Dante frowned. “What are you talking about?” Mateo gestured toward the Ghosts with a glare. “Why the hell are they here?”“Oh, you mean Reaper and his friends?” Dante rubbed the back of his neck, realizing what he had done by inviting Reaper here. He didn't think Mateo would be here when he invited Reaper. But now, he realized that he shouldn't have, not only was Mateo probably feeling betrayed by him, but the whole party was nervous and they were right to be so. “Yeah… I told them to stop by.” Dante replied.“Why?”Dante sighed, running a hand through his hair. “Look, it’

Four people walked through the door, and strolled in like they owned the place.Josh didn’t recognize them, but the party’s reaction told him everything he needed to know. These guys weren’t just regular party guests. He overheard snippets of whispers around him. Everyone was surprisingly talking about how much trouble these guys were. That they shouldn't be here.“Shit, what are they doing here?” Someone asked irritably.“Who the hell invited the ghosts here?”“This is about to get messy…”As Josh listened more he caught the name. The four guys who walked in were members of The Ghosts, a gang known for their ruthless reputation and the fear they left in their wake. They weren’t just infamous, they were the kind of people no one wanted to cross. Wherever they showed up, trouble followed, and from the way the entire party fell silent, it was clear everyone knew it.The group walked in confidently, completely unfazed by the attention they were getting. Josh's eyes widened slightly at Mae's question. What made her think she was a De La Cruz? Well, the De La Cruz family was one of the college's sponsors, so it wasn’t surprising that some people might assume things.Plus, Mae didn't assume anything wrong. Still, no one was supposed to know he was a De La Cruz, yet.Just as Josh was about to answer Mae’s question, the professor’s voice sounded in their ears."New girl, Mr. Josh, if you're done with your little conversation, perhaps you’d like to pay attention to the lesson?" The professor sad sternly.Josh immediately turned back to face the front, straightening in his seat. Mae also did the same, however there was an amused glint in her eyes.Josh exhaled quietly. He was glad that the professor had intervened because that was close. He wasn’t sure how much Mae actually knew about him, but for now, the topic had been dropped, at least for the moment. After classes ended, Josh left campus and arrived home in the evening.
