Chapter 6 - Sparks

Is he ready to go? Or is he leaving with her?  I asked my voice laced with venom, for whatever reason I was angry, jealous and hurt.  What are you talking about? What’s going with you? Who are talking about? Her who?  Jaz rambled in confusion.  Nothing’s wrong!  I snapped.  I’m fine! And you know who I’m talking about. The hell you are!  She snapped back.  Why are you so pissed off?  I didn’t come here to watch women throw themselves at your brother.  I snorted furrowing my brows and scrunching my nose.  Jaz giggles. I glared at her. That bitch?  She threw her thumb behind her.  Oh please, Damien put her in her place, besides there’s only one female he wants touching him and only has eyes for.  She winked at me.  I could feel my cheeks warm up.  

Are you blushing?  She snickered.  What?! NO! I don’t know what you’re talking about, and I don’t blush.  My cheeks turning a brighter red.  Yeah right, go ahead and tell yourself that, that’s why you look like a beet.  She smirked.  I saw the way you two were looking at each other and the way he held you, and you leaned into him.  She giggled as she showed me what she said I did.  Plus, the way you were clenching your fists, I thought you were gonna tear her arms off.  I rolled my eyes at her.  Reign, how long have you been in love with Damien?  She softly asked with a smile.

What? In love with him? Whatever! I am not in love with him.  I rambled.  And I didn’t lean into him? Y-you… I started to say.  Don’t lie to me and tell me that you don’t have feelings for him.  She scolded.  How long?  She gently asked again.  I sighed closing my eyes and covered my face.  Since we first met three years ago.  I sighed as I finally admitted what I should have told her years ago.  When he pinned me to the elevator wall.  I mumbled. Jaz’s eyes went wide.  I just figured it was nothing, that I was crazy to think that he would want to be with me.

Why would you think that?  She asked rubbing my back.  By this point, I was fighting tears back and I have no idea why.  Because I never saw him again and he was never around when we would visit your family. It’s like he was avoiding me.  I said trying not cry.  When he touched me the first time, in the elevator, it felt like a jolt of electricity flowed through me, I didn’t know what was going on. Shit! I still don’t know what’s going on and why I feel this way.  I huffed rubbing my forehead.  It took me three years to forget about him and now…here he is, and he is in charge of my private security!  I laughed nervously.  Besides he probably already has some drop-dead gorgeous model girlfriend. Why would he want to be with someone like me? Other than being Ryven Rose, I’m just a plain ole me.

Why didn’t you tell me? You know you can tell me anything. I would have been your match maker with him.  She gave me a huge grin and wiggled her eyebrows. And no, he doesn’t have a drop-dead gorgeous girlfriend. He’s looking for someone who has more than just beauty, which you are but he wants a total package and you my bff, are just the drop-dead gorgeous girlfriend he’s looking for.  She told me as I rolled my eyes at her.

Yeah right, like I believe that.  And tell you? Like you told me about you and Koltyn, Ryott and Jyden. I had to find out by catching y’all making out.  I snapped.  Do you know how really gross that was?  I told her scrunching my face. She cringed at that. She was going to say something, but I stopped her.  Don’t apologize.  I held my hand up.  Dammitt! I feel like a silly schoolgirl with a crush on the captain of the football team and I am far from being a total package.  I grunted rubbing my hands up and down my face, thankfully I wasn’t wearing makeup otherwise I would look like a clown. Jaz pulled me into a tight hug when we heard someone let out a whistle.  

Daaammmmnnnnn Reign is this your car?!  Moses drooled.  I snickered,  Yes, why I would be leaning on a stranger’s car?  He was literally drooling all over my Hellcat, Please wipe our drool before it gets all over my baby.  I told him handing him a tissue.  Sorry.  He said wiping his mouth and then grinning at me.  You got yourself one helluva car.  Thanks.  I said turning away as Damien walked over to us.  We should get going, I’m sure ya’ll are hungry. I have a table set up a local barbecue joint. I can take three and then the rest can go in the SUVs over there.  Nodding my head towards the vehicles parked next to mine. There’s a driver for each one. Koltyn and Ryott are meeting us at the restaurant.  I told them still not making eye contact with Damien.

Jyden and Jazlyn each rode in the SUV’s, leaving Moses and Shadow crammed in the backseat of my car and that was a hilarious sight to see, these guys are all like six foot something, almost seven foot and built like tanks. Damien eased his way into the passenger seat as his two buddies struggled to get comfortable. Wholly geezers, I could feel my heart rate speed up and breathing got erratic. Calm down, I told myself. I took a deep cleansing breath to calm myself before he slid into the passenger seat.

Our mate is so yummy.  The voice purred.  Is that all you think about?  You’re such a perv, and why are you purring? Are you a cat?  I scolded.  No, wait…I’m not a cat, why am I purring.  Is it my subconscious doing all this? I thought to myself.  No, I am not I am your subconscious.  The voice chuckled at me. I rolled my eyes; I guess I really do need a break.

I loved my Hellcat, as soon as I hit the open road, I slyly smiled.  Hold on to your asses!  I grinned wide as I hit the gas and smoothly flowed in and out of traffic. I could see Damien from my peripheral vision, he was smiling, I felt him softly brush his fingers against my hand that was on the arm rest. I felt a jolt of electricity shoot through my body. I couldn’t help but look at him briefly, as I turned away, he intwined his fingers with mine. Oh, sweet baby bunnies, his touch set off an explosion of sparks all the way down to my toes.

He truly is our mate.  The voice said. Please accept him.  She begged.  He is the reason I was able to reveal myself to you.  You haven't revealed yourself to me.  You haven't even told me who you are or what you are.  I snorted to her, it, whatever this is.  And what does he have to do with anything?  All will be revealed in time, just please bear with me, trust me and most importantly please give our mate a chance.  She pleaded.  Fine.  I huffed as I quickly pull my hand away from his, these feelings were getting stronger. I need to think but having him so close made it hard to think. The loss of contact with him brought an empty coldness, and from the frown that was on his face and the sigh, he felt the same.  Of course, he’s sad, he’s our mate and wants to be with us and touch us.  She whispered sadly. I knew that at some point that we would end up being alone and as much as it excited me it also terrified me.  Don’t be scared Reign, I will always be with you. I promise.  I smiled at that, whoever she is, she’s starting to bring me comfort.

We finally made it to the restaurant, we had a private party area all to ourselves, which worked out because these fools are LOUD. This was one my favorite places to come for BBQ. It seemed like everyone purposely arranged their seats so that Damien and I were sitting next to each other. I still avoided all eye contact with him, but I could feel him watching me. I wondered if he felt what I felt or is it just because I’m Ryven Rose. It wouldn’t surprise me; I’m used to it.

We spent three hours eating, talking and drinking, and boy could they eat and drink. I thought that they would be drunk as skunks by the time we left with as much as they drank but they showed no signs of inebriation.  Jyden, Jaz, Ryott and I were still underage, so we threw down a couple of pitchers of sweet Texas tea and yes, we sneaked a couple of sips from Damien and Koltyn.

I asked for the bill so we could get going but I was told that the bill had already been paid and they didn’t have a name because it was paid in cash and were asked not to reveal who paid.  Alright, who the hell paid the bill?!  I scowled looking at the faces around the table.  They all shrugged their shoulders at me. I know it was Damien who paid because he had a smirk on his handsome face.
