Jagger POV
Entering the elevator I press my key card to the reader and the doors close immediately. I hate sharing the elevator with people so I like to come early, before everyone is supposed to start. Today is a bad day for me. It’s been ten years today since my life changed and made me the man I am today.
The elevator doors open and Janet looks at me with a wide smile. I look at her shaking my head slightly as I walk to her desk and she offers me a cup of black coffee. “Good morning boss,” she says and I raise an eyebrow looking at her and her shoulders slump as she looks at me.
“What? Can’t I try to make your day a little better? Today is your dark day after all,” she says and I nod slightly offering her a small smile. I don’t smile a lot lately, I don’t have a lot of reasons to smile anyway.
“Every day is a dark day,” I correct Janet and she crosses her arms in front of her chest giving me her sassy attitude I nod “Thank you for the coffee,” I tell her and her entire body relaxes before she grabs her things and follows me into my office.
“You have Judge Rat’s meeting today,” Janet says and when I look at her over the lenses of my glasses she takes a deep breath correcting herself “Judge Rover.” Janet rolls her eyes in disgust and I can see why. The guy is a weasel. He is on our payroll and Wyatt uses him quite often to get away with our shit and because of that I have to be his lawyer.
After going through my day with Janet she leaves me alone and I take a deep breath sitting back on my chair before I remove my jacket and fold my sleeves up. I am the best criminal lawyer in New York, and because of that I am always in court or trying to clean up messes my clients do. It's a good thing I have the interns to do the boring part of the job for me.
Taking my glasses off I throw them in frustration. This is a fucked up case and I know I can win, but I also know the guy killed his wife and his son. I didn’t want to represent him but Wyatt asked me as a personal favour. I would love to know what the fuck this guy has on him.
A knock on the door brings me back to the room and I take a deep breath sitting up straight on my chair. “Come in,” I say and the door opens. Janet strides into my office followed by Julio Rover. “Julio,” I say greeting him as I stand up offering him my hand. His eyes don’t move from Janet even when I am talking to him. Bastard. I hate guys that look at women like they are objects. Like they are made to satisfy them.
I might not be the best guy in the world, but I don’t sleep around with random women. I prefer to pay for the company. Not that I need to pay women to have sex with me, trust me. Women throw themselves at me but I don’t have time for their chit-chat and their need for attention. Paying for sex is easier. They can’t create expectations because they know I am paying to use their bodies and that is it.
“Can you get one of the interns to bring us some coffee?” I ask Janet and her eyes meet mine thanking me silently as she nods. “Make sure it’s a male intern,” I add before she leaves the room and she nods before she closes the door.
“I don’t know how you can keep your eyes on your work. If I had a secretary like that I wouldn’t be able to work,” Rover says and I offer him a smile pretending I know what he means.
“Janet is a good friend and her husband is a dear friend of mine as well, so I guess I don’t see her like that. I see her more like a sister,” I lie and Rover scrunches his nose but nods.
“So, what can I do for you?” I ask as I point at the chair behind my desk and Rover sits. His eyes land on me as he takes a deep breath.
“I am being accused of sexual misconduct by one of my students,” he says rolling his eyes dismissively. I swear this is the type of guy I kill for fun, men that think they are better than everyone else and think they can get away with anything.
“What are they accusing you of?” I ask and he shakes his head trying to play it down, I know exactly what they are accusing him of because I know who is the lawyer on the other side representing the girl. This is not the first time he is accused of sexual misconduct by a student, but he always gets away with it, being a judge in New York City makes him powerful and he uses all the power he has to his advantage.
“It’s all nonsense, I barely touched her and he is not even that pretty, it was all an accident,” Rover says and I nod my head sitting back on my chair after writing his words on a paper and crossing my legs as I tap the pen on my desk.
“I see,” I say. I don’t see shit, accident or not he is a prick and I wish I could end his miserable life, but we need him to do some of our dirty work when it comes to getting away with shit. I can’t involve my name with the criminal side of our lives or my career will end and I will lose my license.
“I am waiting for all the paperwork to get to me, I will read everything and then I will start working on your defense,” I say and Rover smiles nodding. He is so narcissistic that he is not even realising this is going to be bad. “I know I don’t need to tell you this, but as your lawyer I will,” I add. Rover nods his head before he stands up.
“Stay away from the students, hell, stay away from any woman that is not blood-related to you, we will need to get the PR team involved to try and minimize the damage to your image. I will have my private detective investigate the girl,” I add. “I bet we can find something that will break her credibility.” I let out.
“I will do whatever you say,” he tells me. I know the fucker is lying and I know I am going to regret taking his case but I shake his head before he leaves my office. Opening my emails I send to print the folder with his case and everything I have on him and the girl.
As I stand by the printer waiting for the last few pages to come out Janet storms into my office with anger plastered all over her face. “I hate that guy, he is disgusting, do you need to have your meetings here?” She asks me and I raise an eyebrow.
“He just spent the last ten minutes trying to convince me to go out with him, I had to threaten him so he would leave,” Janet tells me and I close my hands into fists.
“Fuck, I told him to stay away from any woman, I promise I won’t bring him here again, I will have the meetings in the conference room so you don’t have to see him,” I tell Janet and she crosses her arms in front of her chest as she looks at me in disbelief.
“And you think I will allow you to put my interns through that hell? Nope, I am not having it Jagger, the guy is a pig, I don’t even know how you accepted to represent him,” Janet tells me and now is my turn to get angry.
“I saw it on F******k okay? It’s all over social media, the girl is not afraid to talk, and she is talking a lot,” Janet tells me and I curse under my breath as I sit behind my desk opening my social media and searching for Rover’s name and there it is.
“People are not afraid to speak up anymore, and social media is making it easier for people to do so, she is creating a big thing around it, speaking up about abuse of power, how professors hold the grades over the female student’s heads to get what they want from them,” Janet says and I feel like punching something.
If there’s something I will never tolerate is men abusing their power over women, thinking they are better than them, if it wasn’t for women we wouldn’t be alive. Just because I choose to live without one doesn’t mean I don’t respect them.
“Judge Julio Rover is in the center of another sexual scandal when law student Calliope Flores press sexual misconduct charges against her professor.” I click on the link and the first thing I see is the girl. Her brown eyes stared back at me as if they were looking into my soul. Her long brown hair pulled up into a ponytail and her smile… Fuck her smile would make any man melt at her feet.
“See?” I hear Janet say and I quickly scroll down to read the article but I can’t focus as all I can think about are those brown eyes.
Calliope POV“Callie, are you sure that’s a good idea?” Rachel asks as we look both ways before we run crossing the street. Her arm is linked to mine. “Nope,” I let out as I laugh and she shakes her head. Rachel is a lot more sensible than I am. She likes to make lists and take everything under consideration when making a decision while I am a more go-with-the-flow kind of girl. “What are we talking about?” Carson asks as he kisses me on the cheek before he kisses Rachel and steps between us, forcing me to link arms with him. Carson is our best friend, our very gay best friend. The thing about him is you would never tell he is gay. The guy is still in the closet and only dates the richest and prettiest girls in the city. “Callie thinks it's a good idea to go out clubbing tonight after what she has gone through…” Rachel says, and I stop walking. My friends’ eyes land on me, and they are forced to stop as well. “Rach, you know that is a forbidden topic,” Carson lets out, shaking his
Jagger POV“Stalking people is a fucking crime,” I shout when I read the newspaper. People have lost their fucking minds, and I can’t help but laugh at the stupidity that just came out of my mouth. Yes, it’s a fucking crime, but it’s not a crime like the ones I commit. Being bound to the law sometimes makes things even more exciting for me. Knowing I am getting away with literal murder is thrilling. “Jagger, you have Cornelius on the line for you,” Janet says through the intercom that connects my office to her desk. “Thanks, tell the prick I am busy,” I let out through my greeted teeth as I press the intercom button. “He’s insisting, and if you don’t answer, he is coming over,” Janet replies, and I can’t help but let out a frustrated breath as I lean back on my chair, closing my eyes before I grab the phone with my right hand and bring it to my ear. “Cornelius, I am busy,” I let out as soon as I answered the miserable bastard’s call. “Good morning to you, too,” he replies sarcast
Jagger POVAs soon as I arrive at Dash’s club, I take a deep breath, preparing myself for the big show Grace has planned. Don’t get me wrong, I love the girl. She is the most amazing little thing, and I know she does this out of love, but she should know by now that I don’t like to celebrate my birthday. I like to stay home, reading, forgetting the world exists, and dealing with the pain of having lost everything that mattered to me. “Hey man,” Ghost says as soon as I leave my car and walk to the door, handing the keys to the valet. “Careful with it,” I say, and he nods. Ghost is standing next to the bouncer. I nod at him and the bouncer as he moves the rope, allowing us in without even asking for identification. Not that I would need to show it; I look exactly the same as his boss just a little bulkier, more handsome. “Happy birthday,” Ghost says, patting me on the back before the double doors to the dance floor open, and the music engulfs us. I don’t reply to his wishes. He knows
Calliope POVI feel my entire body trembling, and those blue eyes pierce through my soul. As soon as I saw him walking towards me, my entire brain became a horrible mush. “I am Dash, her husband,” he says, offering his hand for me to shake. I blink several times, trying to process a coherent train of thought, but nothing is happening. Carson and Rachel approach us laughing but immediately stop as they feel the tension in the air.I can see their facial expression change as their eyes land on the man in front of me, the man that looks like a replica of the lawyer defending the asshole that harassed me. I didn’t know it was possible for two people to look so alike. Yes, I know twins exist, but I have never seen anything like this before. I lick my lips before my words come out all stumbling. “H-hi, I’m,” I say but stop clearing my throat as soon as my hand touches his. It feels like electricity pumping through my veins. I immediately pull my hand away from his as I stare into his wife’
Jagger POV“Why were you kissing my wife?” Dash asks as soon as we enter the VIP area, and Grace wraps her arms around my brother. I look at him, shrugging it off, but I can see Grace won’t let it go, and she will tell him what I did. “This is hilarious; your brother pretended to be you,” Grace says. Dash raises an eyebrow and looks at me, and I shake my head as I shove my hands into my pockets. It’s not that I am uncomfortable with confrontation because I am not, but I am not ready to talk about the only girl who has made me look twice her way. Dash wouldn’t understand me. No one would. “As if he could pull that off, no one would believe it. He’s not as good-looking as me,” Dash says, opening his jacket and spinning in the middle of the room while Grace smiles. “It was your fucking idea; I just sold it,” I let out, staring directly at Grace. Grace choked on the drink Dash gave her as she laughed. Her head falling back with her eyes closed. When her eyes meet mine, I can see the mi
Jagger POV"Jagger, Judge Rover is on line two," Janet says with the most fake, cheerful tone I have ever heard. I know she is training the intern, but there's no need to fake her excitement. "Thank you," I say as I press the button from the intercom that connects my phone to hers. I grab the phone and press it to my ear as I close my eyes, momentarily gathering the strength I need to deal with this prick. I press the button for the line two and I immediately regret doing so. The background noise is loud, and I can barely hear Julio. I frown as I clear my throat. "This is Jagger," I say. "Fucking finally, why did it take you so long?" He barks at me, and I tighten my grip around the phone, closing my eyes and counting till ten so I don't tell this fucking asshole to go do one. "It doesn't matter," he says while I keep counting in my head. I had only reached five when he spoke again, "I need you to come to meet me in the courthouse. People are going mad, and I will start arresting t
Callie POV"Callie, you need to come see this," Carson says as he wraps his arm around mine, pulling me out of my daydream state. My feet stumble as he pulls me towards him."Hey," I protest, but in vain. Carson keeps pulling me like a maniac, and my legs struggle to keep up with him. Carson is a lot taller than me, so one step of his is two steps from mine. I look like I am running while he usually walks. "You're going too fast," I finally say as Carson looks at me and starts walking slower. "What's with all the rush?" I question, and Carson smiles as he points at the law office buildings where the professors have offices. I frown, and as we walk closer, I can hear the shouting coming from inside. The muffled voices coming from inside sound weird to my ears. I can't decipher the words being shouted, but I know whatever it is won't last long. The law building tends to have a lot of security. I stop walking when I realize what is going on. The press points the cameras at me as I widen
Jagger POVThe way Calliope was looking at me was going to torment me for the foreseeable future; the way her eyes scanned my features as if trying to read me made me want to drop everything, scoop her into my arms, and leave. “Hey, you needed to see me?” I let out as I walk into Wyatt’s office. Wyatt has been going through hell and back with his kids. It’s like he is trying to form a fucking soccer team. It’s ridiculous. He looks like he aged twenty years in the last four years. Being a father has become his main focus, but obviously, he still runs the business. Wyatt leans back in his chair and takes a deep breath as his eyes meet mine. Immediately, I feel the tension in the air as I walk deeper into his office, standing by his desk. “This is not easy,” Wyatt finally says, and I frown, shoving my hands into my pockets. I hate when he takes his sweet ass time to tell me what is going on. I raise my eyebrows as I look at Wyatt, seconds away from losing my shit, “Petrov was seen in
Callie POV“I have something to tell you,” Rachel says as she looks at Carson as he bites his lower lip, and I frown. “We have something to tell you,” Carson corrects Rachel, and I sit back on my chair, almost bracing for the impact. “Okay…” I let out so low I think they might’ve not heard me. “We have been a little distant lately because..” Rachel starts as her eyes move from me to Carson, and she moves her hand, holding his as he stares at her. OMG. No.“We’re together,” she says, and everything in me freezes as my eyes move from one of my friends to the other. Carson is now staring at me with a small smile on his lips as his thumb caresses the top of her hand. “I am sorry we kept this from you, but as you can imagine, it took us a little while to figure out what was happening between us,” Rachel says, and I stay quiet, not believing what I am hearing. I am happy they are happy, but it’s still a little weird. I always thought Carson was gay through and through. “Say something for
Jagger POV“Are you sure you want to do this?” Dash asks as we both put our masks on. I nod as I try to focus on the task at hand. This is going to be the most dangerous thing we have ever done. “I think this can go wrong on so many levels,” Dash adds, and I look at my brother as he stares at me. The only thing I can see from his features are his eyes. The eyes that mirror my own. I let out a deep breath, gathering the guns I chose to take with me while Dash did the same thing. Wyatt has been extremely quiet, lost in his own mind. I know he is struggling not knowing where his family are, for their own protection. “Let’s go,” Wyatt says as he walks past me and Dash, carrying his duffel bag with the guns he is taking extra. The rest of the men are in the armory, grabbing their own things. This room is only for the three of us. “If things get too much, I want you out,” I say as I look at my brother, and he shakes his head, pressing his forehead to mine as his hand rests on the back of
Jagger POVI look over my shoulder to see Calliope staring at me. Her arms are wrapped around her body as if trying to self-soothe, and something inside of me breaks. I look into those beautiful eyes before I exhale and leave her inside our house. Once the door is closed behind me, I get into the mindset I am going to need to get this shit done. I hate lying to Calliope, but I also know I can’t tell her the truth, not yet. If she knew I wasn’t going away, that I would be in New York, she would have way too many questions I wouldn’t be able to answer. As soon as I close the door on my car I press the button to call Dash. “I’m on my way, is everything ready?” I ask Dash and I can tell by the background noise it isn’t. “What the fuck is going on?” I ask as I wait impatiently for the garage door to open. “One of my clubs exploded last night,” Dash says, and my brain can’t even begin to process the words that just came out of my brother’s mouth. “What the fuck?” I let out as I drive as
Callie POVLiving with Jagger has been the most amazing and weird thing I have ever done in my life. He is attentive and caring, but he also gives me my space and allows me to spend time alone so I can focus on my studies. I have never met anyone like him before. But there’s one thing I can’t get my head around. Several times, I wake up during the night, and he is gone. He is nowhere to be found, and I keep thinking he would tell me where he is going if he wanted me to know, right?“Are you okay?” He asks me, lowering his newspaper as he grabs a cup of coffee, bringing it to his lips. There’s something extremely sensual about a man holding a newspaper with only one hand while their eyes are on us. I feel a shiver run down my spine as these thoughts take over my brain. I nod slightly, trying to push away all the questions in my head. Jagger closes the newspaper and places it next to his plate. Immediately after he stands and walks to me with a confidence I envy. I keep my eyes on him,
Jagger POV“This is amazing,” Calliope says, throwing her arms around my neck, pulling me and kissing me. Her lips devour mine as her tongue dances with mine. Without a second thought, I spin us around, sitting Calliope on the edge of her new desk as she spreads her legs, wrapping them around my body. I press my erection against her heated pussy, and Calliope moans against my lips as my tongue moves slowly down her neck, tasting her every inch. Calliope has no idea the power she has over me; how she could click her fingers, I would go running like a fucking lost puppy. I am addicted to her, and I am not ashamed to admit it. “Show me how much you like it, baby,” I whisper in her ear, and her entire body shivers as her eyes snap open as I take a step back, allowing her to adjust herself on the desk and fall on her knees in front of me. I Can’t help but smile at the sight in front of me. Calliope on her knees is the most beautiful thing ever. How her eyes shine as her hands move to und
Jagger POV“Let’s go,” I say, and I hear people complaining as Donna looks at me with widened eyes. I am not going to sit here and listen to these pricks trying to destroy our reputations. Yes, they might be right. Yes, I was already chasing her before all of this ended, but I can’t help but try to protect her from all of this. Calliope looks at me and nods, standing with me and holding my hand as we walk out of the room where all the press is protesting. I know they were waiting for a final statement from me, but they can fuck right off. “Are you okay?” I ask Calliope as soon as we are alone in the corridor. Her hands are freezing cold and shaking slightly. Her eyes meet mine, and she shakes her head softly with tears pooling her eyes as she stares back into mine. “That was horrible,” she says with a single tear rolling down her cheek. I pull Calliope into my arms, hugging her tightly as she breaks down, crying against my chest. “That was completely unnecessary,” I hear Donna say a
Callie POV“We would like to thank you all for being here, and we would like you all to please respect Mr. Bolton and Miss Flores’s privacy as much as possible. We know you all have questions, and they will do their best to answer them,” Donna says as she smiles, staring directly at the three rows of reporters all staring back at her. I admire how comfortable she is looking in front of everyone.I rub my hands on my legs under the table, and I see Jagger looking at me through the corner of my eyes. He moves one of his hands, placing it on top of mine, stopping me. When I look at him, he gives me a small smile and nods, trying to encourage me. “Please understand Miss Flores won’t be speaking of the legal case surrounding herself at the moment as it’s all in court still, and if Miss Flores is not speaking, the same goes for Mr. Bolton; please be respectful and mindful,” Donna says before she sits next to me.We have a huge table dividing us from the press and Donna points at the first
Callie POV“Are you ready for this?” Donna asks, and I shake my head as I bite my lower lip. Jagger is looking at me as he has his microphone fitted on the lapel of his jacket. “It’s going to be okay; stick to the answers we rehearsed,” Donna says, and I nod. I watch as the woman fitting the microphone bats her eyelashes at Jagger, and he is entirely unaware of her. His eyes are on me, and once she is done, he shoves his hands into his pockets, walking to me. Donna steps to the side as he stands before me, offering me a slight smile. “You two need to remain as a united front. We have checked all the questions being made, but reporters always go rogue,” Donna says, and Jagger nods.“Not my first press conference,” Jagger lets out, and Donna inhales a breath at his tone with her. She can barely look him in the eye and is blushing at any eye contact between them. I frown, watching her behave like a schoolgirl next to Jagger. Donna never behaved like this. She was always very cold toward
Jagger POV“Jagger, you have Donna Johnson on the line,” Janet says through the intercom between my office and her desk. I let out a breath closing my laptop and answering the phone. “Donna, what can I do for you?” I ask. I am not the type of person to go around having chit-chat. I have always been cordial with Donna, but we don’t really have a lot in common. She is more of a social worker case. She likes pro bonuses and cases that won’t get her anywhere. She was never money-thirsty. “Jagger, thank you for answering; I know you are a busy man,” she says. I sit back in my chair, closing my eyes for a few seconds, waiting for her to continue, but she stays silent. “As you said, Donna, I am a busy man,” I let out through greeted teeth. I have nothing against her, but the fact that she is wasting my time is starting to annoy me. “I would like to sit with you; I need a lawyer,” she says, and I frown, sitting back up on my chair. Now, she’s piqued my interest. “I wouldn’t be contacting
