"What the fuck did I just say?"

I swallowed a large lump of air in my throat as I realized I was surrounded by high-ranking military officials, generals, politicians, and other personalities I had only seen on television and in newspapers. I can't believe I'll soon be in charge of these individuals. This is not your typical fraternity or brotherhood. This organization is much larger than I expected.

I saw my dad looking at me with pride and joy. He was astounded by my introduction to the members of the organization, and I could tell by his reaction that he wasn't expecting my behavior; nobody did. Even my grandfather was smiling as I watched him from my peripheral vision. This is what he wanted from me—to unleash my inner beast. He knew that I was only pretending to be tough in front of everybody, and I could say that I was slaying it. I am giving the best performance of my life.

My stomach clenched, and my belly cramped all of a sudden. I'm having a panic attack that makes me want to

Everyone was taken aback when they saw the head rolling on the table. They looked at me with bewilderment. I expected to see the dread in their eyes as a result of the powerful message I delivered, but instead, they all stood up and clapped. Their expressions were filled with admiration and joy. My father came over to me and rubbed my shoulder. He has a proud smile on his face as he looks at me.My grandfather was also smiling as he stepped forward and said, "Are you now convinced that my grandson is capable of leading all of us?" He scanned his eyes for each member in the meeting room."Yes. He passed the initiation!" one of the organization's associates said. The color drained from my face as I couldn't fathom what was going on. "Did I hear correctly? I assumed I had completed the initiation a long time ago. What on earth is he babbling about?" I told myself."Did you hear that, my boy? You've made quite an impression on our associates," my grandfather said proudly. My chest tighten

"What is it that you want me to retrieve?" It puzzled me so much to think that the thing that my grandfather wanted me to get from the mansion was far more important than my life. "Why send me and not Red or my dad?" I questioned him."The invitation is for the El Latro leader, so your presence is important. Since your grandfather is about to step down from his position as organization head, it is appropriate to introduce you to everyone right now," according to Uncle Stephen, who went into great detail."I looked at the auction's list of things, and all you need to do is make sure to purchase item sixty-nine on the list. No matter how much it costs, you must win the bid; I don't care how much you spend on it." Grandpa emphasized it strongly."Uncle Stephen can place a bid on that; why did you ask me to do it?" I argued with him."Because I sent him on another mission. The place is filled with different types of dealers, and they need to get intel on the people who are trying to sell

You appeared shorter than I anticipated," he said mockingly. Vulzach raised his arms, and when he was about to hit me, Wilfred interfered and stood in between us.He pointed his finger at us and said, "House rules: no fighting." Violence will not be tolerated in his mansion. If you want to test your egos, settle this outside of my turf," he continued. He again threatened me, saying, "I will kill you, Junior." He is very committed to taking my life."Not tonight, Ball Sack," I said jokingly."Junior, stop provoking him and get on with the mission!" Uncle Stephen yelled at me on the communication device. "Don't forget about what we came here for, Junior," he reminded me."Come on, gentlemen. The auction is about to begin," Wilfred said calmly. We were brought to the auction by Wilfred, who put his arms around our shoulders. There is a podium in the

A comfortable house, warm clothes, and a soft bed—finally, I've returned home. I no longer worry about my safety, even though I am still the island's most wanted man. Now that people know I am the future Don and the head of the most dreadful mafia group, they are afraid of me. They would think twice before they laid their fingers on me. Along with Athena, many men from Cerberus are standing guard around my house and are prepared to sacrifice themselves to protect me."Junior, wake up." I heard a sweet voice calling out my name.My home is now peaceful, and it feels wonderful. Finally, I could go to sleep knowing that someone was watching out for me. I disregarded the call, wrapped myself in a blanket, and resumed slumber."Junior, wake up." The sweet voice called to me once more, singing in my ears like a mermaid's song.I looked around to see who was calling me as soon as I opened my eyes. Athena was standing next to my bed and giving me her customary expressionless look."Good morni

How did I end up in this situation?"Junior, her pulse is weak. She had lost a lot of blood. Athena's POV:Flashback one year ago..."How are you doing, Angel?" Doctor Faisal inquired."I don't feel well," I grumble softly. As much as I wanted to move, my body just wouldn't react. I've been undergoing intense physical training for the past few years. We are taught to protect and fight with our bare hands, as well as how to utilize various weapons and manufacture, detonate, and dismantle explosive devices. We are also taught how to treat ourselves and provide first aid to survive."It's no surprise you're feeling ill after suffering three broken ribs, a fractured arm, and a broken nose," he remarked, smiling. "Don't worry about it. I'll give you some booster shots to make you feel as good as new." After speaking those words, he injected me with an unknown chemical substance. After a few seconds, my body felt numb. The excruciating pain I felt from my injuries was all gone. He's got to be the doctor. "Get the defibrillator. She is experiencing a cardiac arrest," he said in a commanding tone."What is going on with her?" Junior sounded so sad and worried. "Don't let her die no matter what," he pleaded with them.I never had someone who cared for me like that before. He sounded so sincere and truthful."Sir, are you related to the patient? Seeing Athena fighting for her life on the hospital bed is making me so worried. She put her life on the line to protect and save me, and I couldn't live with myself if she died."Junior, you can relax now. Athena is alive and well. She's going to be alright. It's time for you to take care of yourself." Tiny smiled at me and patted my shoulder."Have you noticed anything weird about Athena?" I said this while staring at Athena, who was sound asleep."She's always been acting weird since the first time I met her. If she acted weirder than she already is, Junior, you better go and tell Red about it," he responded, laughing."I know, but ever since she woke up from her coma, she's been spacing out a lot and looking at everything around her as if it were her first time. Could it be that the accident has affected her brain?" I said it worriedly."Junior, you have

Junior's POV:It's been three days since I left Athena in the care of the Red, and it's been awfully quiet around the house. I used to get upset when she woke me up early in the morning, but now I kind of miss having someone greet me. I missed her home-cooked dinners and the way she followed me around all the time. It is terribly lonely and feels so empty without her.I keep myself busy at work, ensuring everything is prepared and organized for our forthcoming expedition. With Tiny's help, we assembled a group of Cerberus soldiers to accompany me and Athena on our mission in the Fifth District.Despite my best efforts to keep myself preoccupied and divert my attention away from Athena, I still can't stop thinking about her. As much as I wanted to visit her in Red's facility, I couldn't. I was instructed not to visit to prevent her from getting distracted while going through intensive tests."Damn, Junior. Pull yourself together!" I said to myself, "Stop thinking about her. She's your

Junior's POV:"Junior, what took you so long? I've been waiting for an hour here," Tiny exclaimed angrily upon my arrival at the interrogation facility."I passed by Red's laboratory, and we discussed some pressing issues. Anyway, I will be needing you for a few days since Athena will be staying with Red." I addressed him authoritatively and ignored his whining. As my uncle Stephen used to tell me, I should never apologize to anyone since I am the future ruler of El Latro and I can do whatever I want with my time."What happened? Is she sick or something?" Tiny's temperament has changed, and he has voiced concern about Athena."Nah, Red needs to run some tests on her to ensure that all of her vitals are still fine after the incident on our last mission. It's standard operating procedure. All bodyguards should be at full strength and capability to perform their duties," I explained thoroughly, rubbing his shoulder.I don't want him to speculate that something is wrong with Athena as mu

  • The Last Dict Standing   Chapter 26: Forbidden Love

Junior's POV:I still can't believe I slept on the couch last night. Athena was sound asleep in my bed, so I didn't bother waking her up and let her sleep for the night. I couldn't sleep, no matter how hard I tried. Aside from the fact that sleeping on the couch is uncomfortable for me, I can't stop thinking about the consequences of my actions. What would become of me and Athena as a result of all of this? Can we simply pretend nothing occurred and go back to normal? My mind is filled with questions. All I know is that nobody must know that Athena has regained her senses. Our adversaries will take advantage of this information once they learn that her humanity has returned. I didn't realize that I had fallen asleep due to exhaustion and overthinking. I was awakened by the loud ringing of the phone.I opened my eyes and looked at the time; it was already past ten in the morning. I picked up the phone and answered it."Speak," I whispered hoarsely."Junior, are you still sleeping? Did

  • The Last Dict Standing   Chapter 25: Love vs Lust

Junior's POV: I was taken aback by Athena's aggressiveness. She is showing unusual behavior that I have only experienced in my wildest dreams and never thought would become a reality. Is it because she has her senses now and is too eager to experience everything? "Athena, what's going on with you?" I placed the back of my hand over her forehead to check if she had a fever or was sick. "You've been acting weird lately," I said worriedly. "I want you to teach me how to make love," she said, looking at me with her puppy dog's eyes. "It's not that simple," I quickly replied. "Why did you do it with her and not with me?" Lilith was the one she was referring to. I can't believe that up until now, she hasn't moved on since Lilith revealed that something happened between us. She's been acting like a jealous girlfriend. I feigned not to understand what she was saying and questioned her presence in front of my room in the middle of the night. "I have no idea what you're talking about," I

I blurted it out. "She's regained her senses!" I got right to the point. There is total silence on the other line. Red paused for a moment before returning to our conversation."How is that even possible?" he asked in disbelief."I have no idea, and that's why I needed you back here to figure it out," I asked desperately."You know I can't, but I promised you I would try my best to get back as soon as possible." I can hear him release an audible sigh of frustration."She even has some of her memories back," I went on to say.Ever since I learned that Athena has all of her senses back, she has confessed to me everything, including the return of some of her memories. She may not have gotten it all back, but everything is gradually returning to her. I just don't want to put too much pressure on

Athena's POV:"Did you know her?" I asked Junior, looking at him in disbelief.Junior becomes agitated. He opens and closes his mouth several times before forming words to say, "Well, it's a very long story to tell," he said, scratching the back of his neck."We made love at the bar." Lilith boasted about it with a broad smile on her face.I suddenly felt pain in my chest, like my heart was being sliced and diced by a thousand blades. The battle hasn't even begun, so why do I feel like I've already lost?"Junior, is that true?" I locked my gaze on Junior. When I found out he had sex with Lilith, I almost failed to maintain my blank expression."That wasn't the right term," he stutters, trying to defend himself.Lilith knew that she was making everyone uncomfortable, especially Junior, and I could see the sparkles in her eyes that she was enjoying every minute of it. "Oh, yeah, it was just a one-night stand," she admitted, a devious smirk on her face.Even though I already knew the ans

  • The Last Dict Standing   Chapter 22: Death Threats

Athena's POV:Augustus provided us with a room to stay in as we prepared for the main event. Junior undeniably does not approve of the concept of me battling against other super soldiers. I can't blame him for being concerned; they all appear tough and fierce. He's been pacing back and forth in the room, anxiously awaiting the start of the match. His vitals are unstable, according to the X-ray scanner implanted in my eyes.My main concern is that I am no longer able to suppress pain. For some reason, my memories returned as well as my senses. Before, I didn't care about anything but fulfilling my job as a bodyguard and serving my master, but now I find everything interesting, especially things like watching romantic movies and girly stuff.I wanted to tell Junior about it, but I am a bit hesitant. I don't want him to worry about me, or he may think that I am not fulfilling my job. For the time being, I need to pretend that everything is normal until I figure out what's going on with m

Life is a game of chance. My Grandpa always told me to only gamble what I could afford to lose. I've always been a risk-taker, and my decisions are frequently rash, but at least I know what I want. My weakest point has always been my heart, but my strongest points have always been my resolve and conviction. For now, my goal is to give Athena back the normal life that has been snatched from her by the individuals who stole her humanity. That's the least I can do for someone who has put her life in danger several times to safeguard mine.I indicated my intention to visit the people who organize illegal gambling in the First District. I didn't want to go there unannounced, so I contacted them and expressed my interest in their operations. They bought my alibi and openly welcomed me to their home. Being the leader of the most notorious mafia organization, everyone wanted to be affiliated with us, and nobody wanted to be our enemies, except the ones who wanted to get rid of us and be at th
