Heli’s Point of View

I am the fifth prince of Regia Solaria, the youngest child of Vladimir Hath and Camilla Hera Lancaster, and the most powerful ice-wielder in Eldritch. I am handsome, charismatic, rich, intelligent, strong— every positive compliment there is, I am that.

Most of all, I am brave.

So why the fuck am I feeling nervous while sitting in front of two old human beings? Why do I have the urge to fidget like a goddamn schoolgirl who was facing their crush?

They were sitting on the couch across from where I am. Sitting side-by-side with the old woman’s arms crossed against her chest and the old man sitting ramrod straight. They’re both glaring at me, along with a look of barely hidden contempt and distaste.

I cleared my throat. “Can... I will explain to you what I meant when I said the one who... killed Aki’s parents wasn't from our kingdom?”

Their eyes turned sharper, the contempt in them darkening even more at the mention of Akiro’s parents.

“Yes. Give us yo

Akiro’s Point of ViewI couldn’t help but to lunge myself at Heli and wrap my arms around him after he finished telling me what they talked about. He looked really surprised that it took him a few seconds to return the hug. I heard him sigh before resting his head on my shoulder.“Thank you,” I mumbled against his chest.“For what?”“For talking to them,” I replied. “I know you don’t really care about their opinion, and that you’re only doing this for my sake. So thank you.”He hummed, but didn’t bother deigning a reply. Instead, he just burrowed deep into my neck, inhaling my scent like what he usually does when he’s hugging me. I didn’t mind, though it tickles me and gives me goosebumps. I can also smell his natural scent, which is really, really addicting. We stayed like that for a few minutes before I eventually pulled away. Heli didn’t want to let go at first, but at my insistence, he reluctantly loosened his hold on me.“Now,” I said. “Let’s go out?”He raised an eyebrow. “Where

Heli’s Point of ViewAs if it’s not enough that all these old vendors keep on interrupting Akiro and I’s date, this fucker just appeared out of nowhere and was introduced as Akiro’s childhood friend that he had lost connection with for years. And now, he wants to catch up with Akiro while he’s with me. The audacity of this fucking idiot. He couldn't tell it in front of Akiro earlier but now he’s texting him about it? How rude of him.Thankfully, Akiro shares the same sentiment.“He’s really persistent. He must’ve missed me so much,” Akiro said after pressing the send button. “But that’s quite rude of him. He knows I’m with you, and he keeps insisting to meet me somewhere.” He added with a frown.I internally grinned. Serves you right, fucker. After replying to that fucker, Akiro shut his phone down and hid it in his front pocket. “I’m getting tired.”“Do you want to go home?” I asked. He shook his head. “Let’s go to the abandoned building. Let’s skate there.”“Skate?” I frowned in con

  • The Last Chosen Mate   Chapter 33: Attack

Akiro’s Point of ViewI anxiously watched Heli as he kept on eating the dish I cooked for him. I was waiting for his feedback, but he didn’t stop taking a bite once he started, so I simply assumed he didn’t like talking while eating. It didn’t surprise me anymore when he finished eating in less than five minutes. He’s always been a fast eater anyway.“So? How was it?” I nervously asked. He looked at me with a serious expression after drinking water. “What do you think?”I glared at him. “I don’t know! That’s why I’m asking!”“Of course, it’s delicious. Didn’t you see how fast I ate?” he retorted in a matter-of-fact tone that made me roll my eyes at him. “How will I know if you won’t speak! Besides, you could’ve eaten so quickly so you wouldn’t savor the taste,” I replied, smacking his arms.Heli just gave me a deadpan look.My grandparents had already called it a night when we returned. There was no leftover food from grandma’s cooking, so I had to cook if I wanted to eat. After our

  • The Last Chosen Mate   Chapter 34: Bad Idea

Heli’s Point of ViewI shut my eyes tightly once I landed on the landmark of traveling. I will never get used to the dizzying feeling after traveling a dimension. Once my eyesight had stopped spinning around, I stood straight and didn’t waste any time in running to the palace. There were a lot of people outside the humongous gate cramped in a tent that I assumed was built by some of our knights who were relatively unscathed. Most of them sport some bandages here and there, but there seemed to be no fatal injuries. The knights that were guarding the gate saw me approaching. I gestured for them to stay quiet and not announce my presence, which they thankfully did. They opened the gate just enough for me to enter, then I hurriedly sprinted inside and towards the family's private room. All eyes were on me as soon as I opened the door. My eyes roamed around the room, mentally counting if my family was complete. They’re all here, even Helena, though she was lying on a bed.“Helios!” Mothe

  • The Last Chosen Mate   Chapter 35: Longing

Akiro’s Point of ViewIt was an excruciating week of waiting. I can’t remember when was the last time I’ve been so impatient over something. I’ve always been a patient person, so this feeling of restlessness and anxiousness is unsettling. When I told Heli to go back to his world so he could see his family again, I already knew he’d take a long time to return. He told me about our time differences. What I didn’t realise was how much I'd grown used to his presence and that two weeks without him felt so lonely. I can’t talk to him through our phone, probably because of our dimension differences or what. But the thing is, I have not communicated with him for weeks. It was honestly making me anxious. Thousands of thoughts and doubts are racing through my mind as days pass by without seeing or hearing from him. I don’t even know if his sibling is alright. I just wanted to know if they’re okay.My friends noticed how I kept on checking my phone, waiting for Heli’s call or message, but neith

Heli’s Point of View“Why isn’t she waking up?” I asked. “The healers said that she’s already fine! That rest is all she needs! She’s been asleep for four days already! So why isn’t she waking up?”“The knife nearly hit her heart, Heli,” Mother calmly said, resting her hands on my shoulders in an attempt to calm me down. “She needs more than four days of resting.”“But... but I can’t stay here for another day,” I replied, looking down. “I’ve already been away in the human world for almost a month. Akiro’s birthday is next week. I... still haven’t convinced him to come with me here.”“Then why don’t you go back to the human world? Heather can tell you if Helena has woken up already. You don’t have to wait here and waste time in the human world.”I shook my head. “I wanted to see her wake up. I wasn’t there to help you when the rebels attacked our kingdom, so I have to be here now while one of my siblings is healing.”“T-then you can l-leave n-now.”Mother and I quickly whirled around t

  • The Last Chosen Mate   Chapter 37: Missed

Akiro’s Point of ViewIt’s freezing... is it winter already? No, that’s next month. My room is not air-conditioned, and I’m pretty sure the windows are all closed. So why is it so cold? I opened my eyes to see if I had not closed the window yesterday. Just like what I expected, it was closed. The door was also closed. The fan in my room is not working anymore.I shivered once again when I felt another wave of cool air. Sighing deeply, I made a move to sit up, only to be stopped by something strong and sturdy on my stomach. Uh... what?Slowly, I turned around to peek at what was behind me. I didn’t want to assume, despite how much my heart was screaming for me to quickly face whatever— whoever’s— holding me down on my bed in the middle of the night. But I didn’t want to subject myself to another disappointment if I was ever wrong. However, every little doubt and disappointment I'd felt the past month had quickly disappeared when I was met with the face of the man who I hadn’t seen fo

  • The Last Chosen Mate   Chapter 38: Curious

Heli’s Point of ViewFuck. Fuck. Fuck! Why the fuck did I have to say that? And I said it the first time we met again after a month! Fucking mouth. I just had to ruin things between us, didn't I? Just because I smelled his scent once again after four fucking days!Seeing Akiro looking at me with wide eyes, I abruptly sat up, begrudgingly letting him go, so I could talk to him properly without letting his scent cloud my mind. “Wait, don’t get me wrong, Aki. It’s not because I’m thirsty— I can control my own thirst for blood. You’re just... it’s just...”“Heli, you’re rambling again.”I startled a bit, surprised at how close Aki’s face was to mine. He probably sat up while I was busy making a fool out of myself. It makes me want to disappear right now.“I apologise,” I mumbled. “It’s just...”“It’s alright,” Akiro mumbled, smiling kindly at me. “I... I was just surprised.”I looked down, feeling embarrassed. “Please just forget about it.”“Are you sure?”The question caught me off-guar

Third Person’s Point of ViewAkiro smiled as he continued staring at his sleeping mate. They’re cuddled in their bed with Heli’s arms wrapped tightly around Akiro’s waist. He couldn’t pull away because the vampire’s hold was tight even while sleeping, so he was left with no choice but to remain lying down on Heli’s arms. And Akiro is absolutely not complaining. It’s been a while since he stared at Heli’s face, and it felt like he'd forgotten some of the vampire’s features. So right now, all he did was to commit every detail of Heli’s face to his memory all over again.Akiro was so preoccupied that he failed to notice that Heli cracked an eye open and immediately caught his mate staring intently at him. There was the look of— dare he say— fondness and admiration in Akiro’s eyes that made Heli’s heart flutter. He took advantage of his mate’s obliviousness. He shamelessly stared back, enjoying the sight of Akiro’s morning look that he had been secretly cataloguing inside his mind. Even w

Third Person’s Point of View“Work, huh?” Hendrix grinned at his youngest brother, who was sitting on the couch across from him, and was actually pouting as he glared at nowhere. But if anyone pointed it out, Heli would deny it and freeze their mouths until Heli decided to take pity on them.“Can you believe that? I can provide him with everything he needs and wants if he just tells me what it is, and then he can live comfortably. But no, he wants to work,” Heli said, disbelief clear in his voice. “He’s an independent man, Heli. He’s not used to just sitting idly in the corner while someone serves him everything on a silver platter. He wants to be able to stand on his own without relying on anyone,” Hadrien’s mate— Thaia— softly said.“Unlike the rest of us who had a similar lifestyle in our human lives and here, it’s quite easy to adjust. But for Akiro, who’s different from us in every possible way, it will be hard for him, and he might have more demands to make before he fully adju

  • The Last Chosen Mate   Chapter 58: Work

Third Person’s Point of View“You didn’t tell me the Emporium is for elite vampires! How am I supposed to pay for all of these?” Akiro whined upon seeing the prices of all the clothes and pants he picked, as well as the knitting materials and the newspapers he picked for his grandparents.Heli frowned at him. “You don’t need to pay for anything, Akiro, so you don’t have to worry about the price.”“But how about those knitting materials and newspapers I took for grandma and grandpa? This costs a lot!”“Like I said: you don’t have to worry about the price. We’re a royal family, Aki. Money is not a problem for us.”Akiro looked away, pouting. He doesn’t like that he’d owe Heli such a large amount of money, but it’s not like he has a choice. He has no money. He doesn’t have work where he can earn—An idea formed in his mind. He turned to face his mate, his expression giddy. “I’ll find a job!”Heli raised an eyebrow at him. “What?”“I’ll find a job so that I can save money, and then I can

  • The Last Chosen Mate   Chapter 57: Sho

Third Person’s Point of View“FUCK! AKIRO!”Heli extended his arms forward, reaching towards his mate who was getting pushed away by the crowd of vampires trying to get near the youngest prince. Akiro’s face dissolved into panic, his arms flailing around in an attempt to reach Heli’s hand. But with all the stronger vampires pushing him away, he wasn’t able to even touch the tip of Heli’s fingers.“Heli!” Akiro exclaimed, his heart beating frantically as their distance grew farther from each other. He could hear the prince yelling profanities and his name, but he couldn’t see him anymore from the crowd of taller vampires obscuring his view of the raging prince. It made him nervous not only because he was surrounded by vampires he didn’t know, but also because he was sure Heli might throw a fit if he got seriously injured by the stampede.Heli would surely blame himself if he saw Akiro get hurt, and Akiro would like to avoid that if possible. It wasn’t the vampire’s fault after all. He

  • The Last Chosen Mate   Chapter 56: Crowded

Third Person’s Point of View“Are you sure you don’t want to bring some knights with you?”Heli turned to his mate, who, in turn, shook his head in response to the Queen. “Heli’s with me, Your Majesty. We’ll be fine.”The Queen looked like she was about to protest and continue to insist, but a large hand rested on her shoulder, effectively stopping her from talking. She looked over her shoulders and met her husband’s ruby-red eyes that were telling her to let the children go. She sighed.“Fine,” the Queen finally relented, seeing that even the King agreed with the boys. She looked sharply at her youngest son. “Take care of your mate, Helios. Eyes on him. You know how the town is.”Helios scowled. “Of course, I will. You don’t have to remind me of that.”“I’m just making sure.”Helios just huffed, then he turned to his mate. “Come on.”Akiro bowed politely to the King and Queen, then he hugged his grandparents. “We won’t take long.”The Queen knows it would be Akiro’s first time to lea

  • The Last Chosen Mate   Chapter 55: Clingy

Heli’s Point of ViewI sighed deeply when I saw the room was still empty after being inside the bathroom for nearly half an hour already. I plopped myself on my bed, staring at the door as if it would magically make my mate appear if I just stared hard enough. It was half an hour past the two hours he said, and he still hadn’t come back. I can’t help but feel restless about it. I’m aware I am being clingy, but can anyone blame me? My mate and I haven’t been on good terms for months, and I really missed just talking to him and enjoying his presence. It was a luxury I took for granted.Even though we talked already, it didn’t mean all our previous issues had been resolved. No. It would take more than one talk for us to resolve our issues and put it completely in the past. But right now, we’re alright, and I just want him beside me. When ten more minutes had passed, and he still didn’t return, I decided to go and check on him. But just as I stood up to get myself new clothes, the door o

  • The Last Chosen Mate   Chapter 54: Burning

Akiro’s Point of View“Listen, Aki. Don’t think this is your fault, alright? None of this is on you. I’m the very reason of your suffering, so it’s only right I do something for you,” Heli quickly began before I could even say something. “I... am selfish; I admit that. I know that. I couldn’t let you go even if I saw how much you’ve suffered from living here and away from your grandparents. So I thought of the only thing I can do to keep you here at the same time make you happy, and I don’t regret anything. All the risks that come with this decision? I wholeheartedly accepted it, and I had prepared myself for the worse. I admit that it made me nervous and afraid, not for myself but for my people. But when I saw you smile genuinely for the first time since I’ve brought you here, every doubt and fear in my heart disappeared instantly. Aki... it was worth it.”The sincerity in his eyes and voice made my chest hurt in a good way. It feels like his very soul was touching my heart. How can

  • The Last Chosen Mate   Chapter 53: Coerced

Heli’s Point of ViewIt was worth it.It’s been a while since the last time I’ve seen Akiro’s genuine smile. His smile that holds so much joy to the point of being contagious...I wanted to slap myself for taking that away— for being the reason he slowly lost that beautiful smile of his that I loved. For being the reason why he withered to something I almost can’t recognise. It feels like a grave sin, taking the brightness out of Akiro’s life.So this plan that I collaborated with my parents, is worth it. Even if it means risking my life. That’s the least I could do. Besides, I trust our people here in the palace. They’ve been working here for longer than I’ve been living, maybe even longer than Hale’s life. I decided to go to the training room to blow off some steam. When I entered the room, I saw Hale practicing with the swords. He whirled around when I entered. And just as I was about to ask if I could join, he suddenly appeared in front of me, taking me by the collar of my vest a

  • The Last Chosen Mate   Chapter 52: Apology

Akiro’s Point of ViewI stared at the flowers spread out in the palace garden, admiring their beauty, then I zoned out once again. It’s been a frequent occurrence for the past weeks. I keep drifting in and out of life, as if someone’s pulling and pushing me to consciousness. I didn’t even know I was zoning out in the middle of a conversation. I just found out about it whenever any of my companions would shake me out of my thoughts.I feel bad whenever I unconsciously do it, but the others don't seem mad or offended. In fact, they even looked concerned, but I just kept brushing off their questions.Because really, what can I say that they don't know already? They know what I feel, but they can’t do anything about it, right? They can’t help me. Their false placation doesn’t help anymore in easing the pain in my chest. No reassurances that they will help me adjust to this life or that I have someone who still cares for me can make me feel better.Everyday, I feel like I’m withering away
