Akiro’s Point of View

I YAWNED for the nth time, unconsciously scratching my chest as that unfamiliar thing inside my chest happened again.

“Coffee, Aki?”

“Yes, please,” I mumbled, ducking my head on the dining table.

“Akiro. Table etiquette,” my grandfather reprimanded.

I slowly lifted my head. “Yes, grandpa. I’m sorry.”

He halted from what he was doing, pulling down the newspaper he was reading so he could look at me with narrowed eyes. “Why are you so pale? And your eyes look dark. Did you not sleep well?”

I shook my head. “I slept well, grandpa. I don’t know why I’m looking and feeling like this as well.”

“Maybe a fever?” Grandma chimed in, setting down the coffee in front of me before putting the back of her hand on my forehead and neck. “No. It’s not a fever either. You’re not hot. In fact, you are so cold. As cold as a corpse.”

I was about to make a joke about corpses and vampires when I noticed my grandparents seemed to freeze on their spot. They were looking at each other, eyes wide with shock and... fear?

“Grandpa? Grandma? What’s wrong?” I worriedly asked.

It snapped them out of whatever conversation they were making with their eyes. Grandma sat on the seat beside me, looking intently at me with her gray eyes.

“How old are you, Akiro? You’re just eighteen, right?”

“I’m nineteen, grandma. Turning twenty in three months,” I answered, despite my confusion.

“No... maybe you’re mistaken, Aki.”

I frowned. I don’t understand why my age and birthday seemed to bother them even more. They knew something I wasn’t privy to, with the way they exchanged looks. What’s happening to my grandparents?

“Grandma. Grandpa. What’s wrong? Is there something about my age?”

“Has anyone been around you, Aki? Someone you didn’t know who started following you around and telling you something weird?” Grandpa asked, ignoring my question.

“Why...” I thought about his questions. “No, no one’s following me around. I’m always with my friends.”

“No one has ever tried to tell you something weird?”

I shook my head, but immediately stilled when I remembered something. “Oh, there’s this one guy. Remember when I went home pretty drunk? There was a party at one of my schoolmate’s houses. I went out after a few drinks and games to get some fresh air, but this man wearing a cape just suddenly appeared out of nowhere—”

“A cape?” Grandma asked, her nose wrinkling. “Who wears a cape nowadays? Not even us old people wear that.”

“I know, grandma. I was surprised as well,” I agreed with my grandmother. “Then when I was about to go back inside the house, the man pinned me on the wall and he said some weird things about blood and scents.”

Much to my bewilderment, both my grandparents turned pale as paper.

“W-what— did I say something wrong?”

“Akiro... w-what else did the man tell you?”

I frowned, recalling his parting words. “He threatened me not to get close to other people, or he'd drain their blood. And now that I think about it, he’s really weird. He got mad when I called him ‘dude’ and told me not to call him that, and then he said something about me having mixed scents. And oh, he has cold skin and red eyes too. Really weird if you ask me.”

“Listen, Aki. If you ever meet that man again, ignore him. Don’t ever come with him, even just for a talk—”

“Now, now, isn’t that quite harsh, Mrs. Freniere?”

The three of us jumped from our seats when an unfamiliar voice spoke behind us. I hid my grandparents behind me as we backed away from the door where a man stood.

Despite not seeing his face that night, I’m absolutely sure he’s the same man standing in our doorway, both hands in the pockets of his leather pants. He’s not wearing that weird cape of his, nor boots and a fancy shirt. He’s just wearing a simple plain black shirt that highlights his fair but pale skin, and leather pants.

“W-who are you?” I nervously asked.

He stepped inside our house, walking lazily in our direction.

“Stop! Don’t come near!” I yelled despite my nerves. My grandparents were shaking in fear behind me, and I would probably be the same if only someone else were here to help us. But no, my grandparents aren’t strong enough to protect themselves. I’m not that strong either for a man, but I will do whatever it takes to protect them.

Even if it means standing up to this intimidating man.

The guy stopped just a few steps away from the door, his striking yet frightening ruby eyes trained intently on me.

“I already told you who I am weeks ago, Akiro.”

My forehead creased. “N-no, you didn’t.”

“Yes, I did,” he simply replied. “I told you I am your mate.”

What the hell does that even mean—

“NO! WE WON’T LET YOU TAKE OUR GRANDSON AWAY!”

I gaped in surprise when my grandmother pushed me behind them. Her small, trembling form shielded me from the weird intruder while grandpa was holding her hand tightly.

Why is she getting so mad all of a sudden? And what does she mean by taking me away?

“It seems you know us. Then you must also know: no one can escape the Crystal, Mrs. Freniere,” the man calmly said. “I didn't even win against it when I tried to resist it.”

“No no no no! Akiro won’t come with you! You already took his parents away! Akiro won’t suffer the same fate!”

What?

“There are billions of humans in this world. Find someone else to play the victim. Just let our Akiro go. He’s already lost so much from your kind,” grandpa said in a hard tone, his free hand clenched tightly against his side.

Grandma screamed when ice suddenly appeared on the floor, creeping so fast in our direction and towards the wall.

“You know we have no say against the Crystal’s choice. I can’t let him go. He’s my mate,” the guy said through his clenched jaw.

“S-stop this! Stop whatever you’re doing to our house!” I yelled at the man. Almost immediately, the frost that started to spread across our house melted. My eyes went wide as saucers at the astonishing sight. Is that... a supernatural ability?

I looked at the man. He doesn’t look out of the ordinary— perhaps his red eyes were a bit weird and too striking, and his skin is way too fair and pale to be called normal, but other than that, I don’t see anything different from him.

So why does it seem like he can control ice?

“Look here, mister,” I said as calmly as I could. “I don’t know what kind of prank you’re pulling on, but you better stop it right this instant and leave. I don’t know why my grandparents seemed so scared of you, but it involved my parents, so it must have been really deep. I don’t know why you have this ability to control the ice either, but don’t use it in our house. So if you can kindly leave right now, we won’t tell anyone about this encounter.”

The man didn’t budge; his eyes remained staring directly into my eyes. Red eyes met blue, and neither of us dared to look away. I don’t know what’s going on inside his mind, but I was too enthralled by his striking ruby orbs to look away.

And for some reason that I couldn’t explain, there was this inexplicable pull inside my chest that drew me to this man. I felt it as soon as our eyes first laid.

After what I think is an eternity of staring into each other’s eyes, the man finally moves. He didn’t avert his gaze from me, but his body was moving towards the door.

“I’ll come back,” he said, then he finally tore his gaze away from me to look at my grandparents. “And when I do, I’ll bring him with me.”

“No, you won’t,” grandma hissed at him.

“We won’t let you,” grandpa added, his voice still hard and rough.

But the guy just ignored what they said. Instead, he returned his gaze on me, something akin to a fierce determination in his eyes.

“I’ll come back, Akiro,” the guy’s cold voice spoke so calmly, it made him sound even more dangerous than when he was raising his voice earlier.

It rendered me speechless. He didn’t wait for my response; he just swept his menacing ruby eyes before leaving our house.

My grandparents both sagged in relief, almost falling on the floor. I hurriedly helped them back to the chairs.

“Grandma... grandpa...” I called their attention after letting them drink water first. They both raised their heads to look at me. “W-who’s that guy?”

“Don’t mind who that man is, Akiro. Just... don’t ever listen to whatever he says to you. And if possible, never go somewhere alone with him. Don’t talk to him at all.”

My brows furrowed in confusion and annoyance at my grandmother’s words. Shouldn’t they tell me who that guy is, at least? They wanted me to avoid that man who seemed really determined about something related to me, but they couldn’t even tell me who that guy was.

And how the hell am I supposed to resist someone that stunning? Hell, I’m just a young homosexual that still struggles with his hormones. So pray tell, can I avoid that man who looks at me with so much intensity?

Heli’s Point of ViewI FORCED myself to remain calm the days following my visit to the Frenieres house. I almost lost my cool during the brief moment I was there. My mate’s grandparents were infuriating. How dare they try to stop me from taking my mate to our world? They are just mere humans. What can they do to stop me?They should be grateful that Akiro was there or else I might have drained them of their blood. They were trying to tell my mate to avoid me and not to listen to whatever I was going to say. Fucking ridiculous humans.I badly wanted to return to our world to calm myself down, but I couldn’t. Time works differently in Eldritch and the human world, so if I go back home to the palace and return here to the human world just a few hours later, weeks or months could pass by immediately. And I can’t waste more time. I should be focusing on convincing my mate to return home with me, especially now that his grandparents seemed adamant not to let him go near me.I scoffed at the

Akiro’s Point of ViewI averted my gaze back to my laptop when I saw a middle-aged couple looking in our direction while mumbling something to each other. It’s the fourth time I saw someone watching and most probably talking about us.I can’t blame them though. I’d be confused too— or in their case, weirded out— if someone as manly, handsome, and intimidating as this guy in front of me were staring intently at another man.He didn’t bother me anymore when I firmly told him I'd focus on my research paper, but he never let his gaze stray away from me. It honestly makes me feel self-conscious because I’ve never been subjected to this kind of attention— so intense and focused solely on me, as if no one else was around. It surprised me that I managed to do at least half of my part in our research paper. His gaze was so distracting that I could feel my hands trembling a bit in my attempt to suppress the overwhelming feeling of being someone’s sole focus. And that someone is oozing with hand

Heli’s Point of View“I am Regia Solaria’s youngest prince, Helios Vladimir Lancaster,” I whispered without looking away from my mate’s beautiful eyes. “And I am your mate, Akiro Valerian Freniere.”I felt a surge of satisfaction at Akiro’s reaction. He was looking at me with his lips parted— probably in disbelief or surprise. His ocean blue eyes were blank, still processing in his mind what I had just said. He stood frozen in front of me, as if I used my ability on him so he wouldn’t escape. Now that I have finally introduced myself, I think he’ll finally realised how offending his laugh was a while ago. And the idea of me— Helios Vladimir, the youngest son of the Lancasters, the ice prince of Regia Solaria— pouting because my mate just told me to show some respect to his grandparents, who were equally rude to me, is absolutely ridiculous. I don’t know what my mate was thinking when he said that.As if I’m just a mere commoner. Pouting? What a bullshit. Those are for stupid people on

Akiro’s Point of View[Where are you, Akiro? Everyone’s here already.]I looked around the place to find my friends. I squinted my eyes when I saw a familiar figure standing in front of a vape shop. “Are you in front of a vape shop wearing a dark blue polo shirt?”[Yes. The others are inside. So hurry up before they can even cause chaos inside.]“Alright,” I said, chuckling before ending the phone call. I hid my phone in my jeans’ pocket as I headed straight towards where Atlas was waiting. When he saw me approaching, he immediately went inside the shop to call the others. After a few more greetings and complaints about how long they had waited for me, we started heading towards the newly opened club near our university. There were lots of people, most were familiar to me since they were our schoolmates. Final examinations had just ended, so everyone must have wanted to relax and treat themselves after the hell of an exam we had. We only have our research to pass, and then it’s our se

  • The Last Chosen Mate   Chapter 8: Crazy

Heli’s Point of ViewI was expecting an immediate ‘no’, a firm rejection, a quick refusal, because it seemed like Akiro was adamant about forgetting that he had met me— that he knew about my ability and my kind. But I didn’t expect this.“O-okay...” Akiro mumbled as he closed his eyes. It took him a few minutes to answer my question, so I thought he wouldn’t agree. So when I heard him say that, my eyes went wide.“What?”He opened his eyes and looked straight into my eyes. “Okay, Heli. I’ll... give you a chance.”It took every ounce of my strength to resist claiming his lips right there and then. My heart almost jumped out of my chest from the sheer happiness his simple response gave to me.“But I have a condition.”Almost immediately, I halted. I raised an eyebrow at him.“What is it?” I asked. He swallowed, and I couldn’t help but follow the way his prominent Adam's apple moved. “You’ll have to talk to my grandparents about whatever issue you have with them. Akiro’s Point of View“FREAKING head,” I mumbled as I massaged my head. It hurts so much! It feels like I was hit by a basketball a dozen times. I just wanted to remove this head to get rid of this misery I put myself into. What was I thinking, drinking myself to oblivion last night? I don’t have a high alcohol tolerance yet I think I drank almost five bottles. I can’t help it though; it was so fun last night at the club! And drinking with my friends is one of our ways of bonding and de-stressing, so I guess I have no regrets about it.But then a thought suddenly came into my mind when I finished washing my face. How did I go home? I’m pretty sure everyone was drunk as hell last night, and that they just called someone to fetch them. That’s what we agreed before we drank. But I don’t have anyone to call. So how did I get home?Scratching my head, I decided to set it aside. I’ll have to cure my hangover first. Thankfully, my grandparents always have a stock of medicine. According to he

Heli’s Point of View“I HAVE no ulterior motive towards him.”Like what happened the first time I came here to the Freniere’s house, they were sitting at the dining table, and they were also talking about something serious. And like their first reaction, they all hurriedly stood up to face me.I walked closer with my hands inside my pockets. I was staring directly at Akiro, whose hair was sticking up in different places. Seeing his usually kept hair like this makes me chuckle. So this is how he looks in the morning. So fucking adorable.“We told you not to come back here, right?! You are not allowed here, you monster!”My smile instantly disappeared upon hearing that damn word.“Grandma!” Akiro exclaimed softly, looking at his grandmother. “Don’t yell. Akiro’s Point of ViewI let a few days pass before I decided to finally talk with my grandparents about Heli. Grandmother had an attack when she got so mad at Heli. I didn’t want to make it worse so I decided to talk to them when she’s in good condition already. It wasn’t that critical, but I didn’t want to take risks, so it took me almost three days before I approached them in their room. We haven’t been on good terms since that day, especially after the last words I told Heli, but they still made sure to take care of me even though it’s me who needed to make it up to them.I took a deep breath once I stopped in front of their room before knocking on the door. I didn’t wait for a response; I just slowly opened it and took a peek first before entering. Grandma was busy folding their clothes while grandpa was reading a newspaper. But I can still perfectly remember you dancing with a stranger in a bar,” Heli said. “Sexy dance, if I might add.”Akiro blushed at the reminder. “T-that’s different! I’m drunk then! I didn’t know what exactly I was doing!”“Uh-huh. And yet you still kept a cool head to stop the girl when she was about to throw herself at you,” Heli’s eyes turn dark at the memory of the girl’s pathetic attempt at flirting and seducing his mate, who wasn’t even into girls. “That’s because even in my drunken state, I know my preferences.”Heli raised an eyebrow, dark eyes staring intensely at his mate. “Oh?” he mumbled lowly. “So if it was a guy, you’d flirt back?”Akiro’s eyes widened, knowing full well he had made a trap

Thousands of negative thoughts swirl inside her mind, and her heart aches at the thought it’d be his son who would suffer the consequences if it fails.Though it seemed the King had noticed her internal crisis, his hands reached out to his mate’s face. “It’ll be alright, Cami. Third Person’s Point of ViewFive days had passed and yet Heli still hadn't confronted Akiro about the incident in the town. It’s not for the lack of trying. Heli tried, but his mate kept on evading it. The first time he tried to ask Akiro about it, his mate seemed to know what the talk was about. He had tried to evade answering by subtly trying to change the topic, and when he noticed that Heli seemed to start getting annoyed, he resorted to seducing the vampire by kissing him messily. And who was Heli to reject that? Despite his conviction to learn what happened from Akiro himself, and to know what’s going on inside his mate’s mind, he still can’t find himself to pull away from the intense and messy make-out session. After what seemed like hours, Akiro promptly fell asleep. The second time Heli tried to open the conversation, Akiro used his grandparents and Shiro as an excuse. He can even say Akiro actually likes it.He knows Akiro wouldn’t tolerate it if he becomes too overbearing on his clinginess, but his mate let him without a single complaint, even if his siblings and their fated mates teased him about how suffocating he was over his mate. Akiro just shook his head and laughed it off, neither denying nor agreeing. But Heli knew it was the former.Other times, Heli would’ve believed his mate’s reason when he didn’t let the prince come with him in his grandparents’ room. How can you not know her?” one of the girls spoke, the indignation in her tone heavy. “Oh, really?” Akiro gasped, looking at the girl with wide eyes.
