Chapter 2
Autumn’s pov I jumped, my breath hitching in my throat as I accessed where I was. Everywhere was pitch black making my heart race even faster. And the worst of all was that since my wolf was an Omega, I couldn't see properly when I turned. Oh goddess. My feet dragged backwards twice as fear raised huge bumps on my skin. The only thing guiding my movements were the footsteps I heard advancing towards me, but from where exactly was what I couldn't tell. In a split second, hands reached out and grabbed me. I screamed so loud that I was sure those in the pack house heard me. I was dragged to a more secluded area in what I figured to be the woods, because of the branches of tall trees that whipped my face as I was dragged and the sound of leaves being trampled upon. My eyes nearly bulged out in terror when the owners of the hands that grabbed me finally let go of me and enclosed around me. And that's when I saw their faces and counted their numbers. There were four men altogether and oddly enough none of their faces were familiar. I didn't think they were from the pack at all, cause if they were they would have had a mark “It seems we’ve hit the jackpot tonight, guys. ” One of the men uttered, casting me a cruel smile that almost made my heart jump out of my chest. The remaining three bursted out laughing. “You wish. She ain't no jackpot buddy! She's mute, remember? The highest she could fetch us would be a thousand dollars and that's only when she's being purchased by an organ donor.” An organ donor?! And how could they tell I was mute?! Was I being followed?! My heart started beating erratically when they chained my wrists and ankles. I tried fighting back, matching hard the foot of the man who held me with mine. But the man hit my cheek and my ear buzzed to the extent that I thought I was about to go deaf. “Do that again and they’d be digging out your corpse when morning comes.” he snarled in my ears. I didn’t act stupidly bold anymore because I knew these scary men would make do on their promise of killing me in cold blood. We came out of that part of the woods and then I understood who these people were. They were called Slavers. They walked the night, picking up exiled wolves and lone Omegas without packs. I counted about ten more of them, plus the four that had brought me. This was where my life ended because they would sell me to a brute and that would make Bessie and Catalina look like angels. I joined the line after they had connected my chain to that of the person at the rear. This nightmare had become too real. As real as my rejection earlier. “Stop!” I heard one of the men scream immediately like one who had seen a ghost and immediately, a loud whistle was blown, but it didn’t come from amongst the slavers. I narrowed my eyes at the left and right side of the road. A second later, an arrow struck the Slaver next to me in the head, creating an exit wound. Blood splattered all over my body and chaos spread like wildfire. In a split second, bodies began to drop dead in front and behind me. The Slaver at my side had an arrow at the side of his head. I gasped when he pulled the arrow out of his head in a traumatic manner and began to fight with no one in particular, groaning and growling. It didn’t take up to five minutes, before he dropped dead without a single touch. And that's when it hit me. Poison. Whoever was attacking the slavers was using poison to defeat them. While the fight was ongoing, someone cut the chains between us, setting us free. I turned to run, only to find a slaver aiming a spear at the spot between my eyes. Before I could react, it was already too late, he had thrown the spear at me. I moaned loudly in fear, but suddenly, my back hit the ground hard and I found myself rolling through the grass, strong arms protecting me. “Are you okay?” A handsome man clothed in leather who just saved me, asked, and I nodded, captivated by his icy blue eyes. “Hide away in the bushes until it’s over.” He pushed me in the direction of the bushes and went back to where the rest of the slavers who weren't dead yet, were. While running, I looked over my shoulder, glimpsing him fight with a strength and courage that was unmatched. Minutes later, the slavers were all sprawled out on the floor. Dead. He was leading the men that had come to save us as they approached. I still couldn’t take my eyes away from him. His long black hair was tied into a bun and he was wearing a sleeveless leather shirt, showing his muscular arms and broad shoulders. Beside him was a blonde haired man dressed slightly just as him . The only thing differentiating the two was the color of their hair. His was a shade darker than that of the blonde haired man. “What do we do with these captives, ki–” the blonde haired man spoke up but he cut him off almost immediately. “It's just Kavan, Lieutenant. You don't have to flatter me in front of these omegas.” His voice was so firm that for a second, the blonde haired man looked taken aback. “Though I suggest we build a camp tonight, then when morning comes, they can freely return to their packs,” he added. The blonde haired man looked like he was about to say something but then he simply shrugged and smiled wryly. We all bowed immediately to show appreciation for their kindness, even though our jaws were still on the floor. When I raised my head, Kavan’s gaze was fixed intently on me and when he caught me staring back at him, he quickly tore his gaze away from me. “You heard him.” The blonde haired man spoke up again. “You can freely return to your packs and if you have none, you’re also free to travel to Shadow Realm with I and my men, we'll protect you.” We all nodded and almost as quickly as he had uttered, the men that were with him began setting the camp in the part of the woods where we were. Soon, I finished eating dinner by the fire and retired to the sleeping tent that was shared to me before the meat started grilling. I pushed past the lapel of the tent and bent inside and immediately, my eyes locked with the icy blue gaze of Kavan. The shock of seeing him bare cheated almost had me falling on my arse. I quickly whirled around to leave but his voice called, “Stop right there.” Screwing my eyes tight, I turned back to face him properly. My eyes widened when I noticed the hot tub set up just beside where he was lounging. It was then I realized that I was in the wrong sleeping tent! I had made a colossal mistake and now I didn’t know whether I would lose my head for seeing him naked. Oh goddess. “Your name?” he questioned with one brow raised. I tapped my mouth consecutively and shook my head, trying to communicate to him that I was mute. But he didn't seem to be getting it, he just peered at me instead like one who's lost it. “Please, stay,” he uttered after a while and I started choking on my spit. It worsened when he immediately rose out of the water, showing me every bare part of himself, including his very hard member. My eyes nearly bulged from their sockets from the sheer size of his member. It was big! I tried to look away but it seemed like my eyes were stuck onto his body. It was only until he wrapped a robe around himself that I was able to look away, my eyes returning to his smirking face. “You are a mute wolf.” I heard him say and I nodded. “Are you mated?” he tilted his head. I shook my head and frowned sadly, remembering the pain of being humiliated by Alpha Rafe and the rest of the Crescent Night pack. “In that case, join me. We are the only ones here and the night is rather too boring. What harm could it possibly bring?” he grinned and after a moment of long thinking, I threw caution to the wind and pulled out of my robe, but only after gesturing for him to look away. When I woke up in the morning, I was on his bed and in his tent, but the space at my side was empty and cold. His clothes were gone and there was a thick clot of blood on the sheets. Panic set in and I straightened on the bed, wondering where the blood came from. My eyes trailed all over my body for any open wound. But instead of an open wound, I found several marks on my thighs with over a dozen hickeys on my neck. I squeaked and slapped a hand over my mouth in shock. How did I get these marks and hickeys?! As I raked my head on the last thing I did with Kavan after bathing in the hot tub, it all came rushing back. The way he had pulled me so close after we had a few drinks, his wet eyes and the light brushes of his palm against my body. How I had shuddered greatly when his hot lips gently caressed my skin, tracing every curve and contour, like he was memorizing my body. I felt so alive, so desired. And then everything went blank. Oh goddess, how could I have let things go so far?!Chapter 3Autumn’s povMy face burned in embarrassment as I hurriedly tiptoed out of Kavan’s tent back to mine. But before then I made sure the coast was clear before stepping a foot outside. The thought of bumping into Kavan or the lieutenant at such an early hour was dreadful! How was I supposed to explain how I found myself in his tent?!As I got to my tent, I noticed there were only a few wolves remaining, and to my dismay they were discussing how Kavan had left with the lieutenant and the captives that decided to travel back to his pack with him.A feeling of sadness washed over me immediately. To think I couldn't even get a chance to see him before he left, not even an explanation for what happened between us last night.Sighing deeply, I touched my wounded arm only to feel a rough patch on it. My brows furrowed as I looked more closely at my arm to see it all cleaned up, there were no blood stains, no pain, just a little bandage wrapped around the sore area.I could tell it was
Autumn’s povMy fear intensified when I looked up to see the sky swirling with grey clouds and lightenings, making me care less about the excruciating pain that zigged up and down my spine.“Kneel until the sun comes for showing up before me uninvited, Omega!” Alpha Rafe commanded, strutting back into the hall.As soon as he left his guards lined up in front and behind me, but unlike me they had a shade and their strong wolves to keep them warm. I shivered, wrapping my arms around myself because I couldn’t do anything else but kneel on the rough ground until the sun came up. I didn’t know when I had passed out from the cold, but I suddenly stirred awake. I thought it strange that the sun wasn’t up yet the darkness was gradually clearing away from the sky. As I raised my head to draw the attention of the guards to the unusual climate, that's when I saw that the guards in front of the party hall were dead and there was a strange scent in the air. My eyes brimmed in horror as I caugh
Autumn POV Dax had an iron grasp on my arm. I thrashed and kicked, but to no avail. My feet fumbled for grip as he hauled me across the pack hall's shiny floor. "Please!" I opened my mouth to scream, but only a pitiful squeak came out. Oh, how I hate having to pretend to be silent. Go to hell, damn it all. I made a desperate attempt to grasp anything or anyone who could assist. I ran my fingertips along Zane's sleeve. Hope blazed in my chest for a minute. My foster father would never allow this to occur, I'm sure. However, he withdrew his arm, his expression displaying icy indifference. "Zane!" With tears flowing down my face, I silently mouthed. He moved on. Bessie was standing close by, her mouth hanging open in a victorious grin. I went flying at her, snatching a handful of her blouse in my fist. She flinched back as though I were sick, pushing me off so hard that I staggered. She growled, "Get your dirty hands off me." "You ought to give me thanks. At least you'll be usefu
Autumn POVI followed Amber around the twisted lanes of the outlaw camp. Long shadows were being formed across the decaying buildings by the setting sun. With every stride I took, my heart pounded in my chest. How could Alpha Dax be interested in me?We arrived at a sizable warehouse with corroded and pockmarked metal walls. A pair of robust sentinels stood vigilantly near the entryway. As we walked by, they gave Amber a nod and gave me a suspicious look. The warehouse was bustling with activity inside. There were wolves running about with boxes and crates. The stench of sweat, metal, and leather permeated the air. Amber led me to a tiny office with a view of the main floor by way of a set of noisy metal steps.Dax was seated behind a worn-out desk, with just one dangling light bulb illuminating his scarred face. As we walked in, he looked up, his sharp eyes falling on me."I'm grateful, Amber. He murmured, his voice a deep rumble, "You can go."Amber gave me a comforting squeeze on m
Autumn POVDax's comments lingered in the air as I stood there, motionless. The pack of Shadow Realms The most deadly pack among all the werewolf societies And he desired that I become one of them?I think Dax saw the look of disbelief on my face. With a groan, he combed through his hair. "I realize this sounds crazy. But allow me to explain."He pointed to the unconscious wolf, whom he addressed as Renly. "He might be saved by the Shadow Realm pack's cutting-edge medical knowledge and healing skills. That's what your goal would be.A suspicious eyebrow went up. How on earth was a silent omega like myself going to succeed in such a risky mission?Dax went on, urgently and in a low voice. If you were to pose as Mathias's partner, you may acquire their healing skills. then return to us with that understanding."In uncomfortable silence, we left Renly's room and made our way back to Dax's office. My thoughts were racing. This was insane. even suicide. But I saw Sarah ministering to a pa
Autumn POVWith cold calculation, Mathias leaned over me, his eyes sweeping over my face. I continued to look down, my heart thumping hard in my chest. I was aware of the irony: I had just discovered my voice, and now here I was, acting silent once more. My deceit weighed heavily on me and served as a continual reminder of how vulnerable I was."Can you speak?" With a tone that pierced through the tense atmosphere in the room, Mathias demanded.I gave a little sigh just for impact and shook my head. My nose was filled with his aroma, which was a mix of pine and something deeper and more sinister. It required all of my strength to keep from running away and to keep up the appearance of the submissive, silent omega that I was meant to be.Mathias's face muscles tensed with evident annoyance as his jaw clinched. He spit out, "This is ridiculous," his words brimming with contempt. "Dax! Enter this place right now!"With such power that it banged into the wall, the door exploded open, lett
Chapter 9: The Dawn of Deception Autumn's POV Beside Mathias, I was motionless as a stone. Intoxicated slumber had a heavy rhythm as his chest rose and fell. Sweat and booze stank filled the room. A little glow seeped through the draperies. I hadn't had any sleep. unable to get any sleep. The weight of all I'd accomplished and what remained to be done was racing through my mind. My skin felt scratchy against the blankets. I wanted to move, to scratch, and to run. However, I didn't. As I waited, I breathed steadily and slowly. Mathias let up one big snore. Then he resumed his silence. Cautiously, I lifted my head. gazed upon him. His mouth was agape, and his face was vacant. His chin glistened with drool. This man believed he now owned me. The truth was unknown to him. I am not able to know the reality. As I placed my fingers in my mouth, they trembled. After a moment of hesitation, I forcefully bit my index finger. My hand hurts so bad. I tasted copper. Blood shot up, thick and da
Autumn POV Not long later, a convoy arrived. elegant black vehicles with darkened windows. Men with earpieces in their ears and dark outfits. They maneuvered with military accuracy. Mathias said, "Time to head home." He extended his hand toward me. I accepted it. Against my palm, he felt dry and warm. Strong. I allowed myself to fantasize briefly about what this might be like in real life. If this man, who appeared friendly and interested in looking after me, was the one who genuinely owned me,. However, it wasn't genuine. I also belonged to no one. We bid Dax and Amber farewell. Amber gave me a strong hug. whispered, "Autumn, you're so lucky." in my ear. Mathias is a decent guy. Treat him well." I nodded, not believing I could talk. even though I was able to. The vehicle was cozy. Leather chairs, mellow music streaming. With his arm around my shoulders, Mathias took a seat near me. As we drove, he pointed out various landmarks. explained the Shadow Realm pack to me. Regarding t
