Pushing the door of our chambers, I entered the room and tore off my thick cloth with a gasp.

Sir Shadow stood up with a start and grabbed his sword but when he realized that it was me, he relaxed. But only for a few seconds.

When he saw how distraut I looked, he rushed up to me.

"Your grace?" He called out as he grabbed me by my forearm and led me to the bed.

He helped me sit down on my side of the bed.

"What should I do?" He asked.

I opened my lips to answer him but only a violent cough came out. pressing my palm flat against my lips, I leaned down and let out a few more coughs.

The couches burned their way out and when I finally got some air back in my lung, I let my hand fall.

"Mirra... Go get Mirra." I whispered and Sir Shadow sprang in action, rushing to the door and disappearing.

The red spots around my neck flared, forcing me to dig my nails in to my skin.

I broke out in tears as I scratched the itchy spots. A sob escaped my throat as I kept scratching.

I stood in front of the court hall doors, ready to enter. My mind briefly took me back to the council meeting I just had. Grumpy, might be the council members but none asked about Barlion. I had waited anxiously for one of them to bring up Lord Jeremy's finding but it seems, My husband's uncle kept his secret to himself. His absence at the council meeting did worry me because he didn't look like a man who took his responsibilities so easily.Sir Hunder had been my other worry. The head of knights barely spoke during the meeting, only voicing his concern as a council member when he had to.When the meeting came to an end and the council members started leaving, I had asked Sir Hunder of his finding but he only shook his head, telling me that it should wait until after court.Taking a deep breath, I pulled myself out of the memory and pushed to door open. When the doors led way in the the court hall, I almost took a step back at how overwhelming the hall looked. It was packed. The peo

A knock on the door woke me up. Holding on to the back of my neck, I stifled a groan as I lifted my head up from my forearm.I hadn't realized that I'd fallen asleep at some time during the night.I looked over to the window and saw that the sun was about to come out.I took a few seconds to admire the colorful rays the sun was painting on the sky, making it look like the clouds are being set to flames.I let out a sigh before I pushed myself to my feet and stretched my arms above my head.My eyes turned to Barlion and a weak sigh escaped my lips. When another knock came from the other side of the door, I let out another sigh before I walked over to it."Who is it?" I asked as soon as I got to the door."It is I, your grace." Sir Hunder's voice came from the other side. Unbarring the door, I pulled it open and let the head of the knights in.He looked at my dress, the same one I wore the previous day and then he turned his eyes to the pile of papers on the dining table.I cleared my

"The main castle has been receiving more and more applications for the training. I have already accepted fifty boys for the training and there are more coming." Sir Hunder reported as he pushed a pile of paper towards me, showing me the accepted boys' letters.I gave Sir Hunder a small smile and even if he couldn't see it, he knew I was grateful that he made it work.Nodding my head I glanced at Lord Jeremy's seat but once again, it was empty."Where is Lord Jeremy?" I asked."He's off at our trade ports. He might come back the next day or perhaps the day after that." Lord Hero answered before he continued on with his reports. The people of our kingdom were slowly coming out of their homes. Their locked doors were once again open and the work places are filling out. There is still one problem though. The number of travelers and visitors from other kingdoms have greatly decreased. The attack during the King's visit has left a greater scar on our kingdom, messing with our finances."If

Mirra asked as she took the seat from across me.My eyes dropped to the book and I wondered the same thing. I was in the middle of going through the law book for the cases for tomorrow."I don't know." I replied honestly."What exactly is it that you want to learn from this book?" Mirra asked as she nodded do

"We've got a letter." Sir Hunder's voice boomed in the chamber like a thunder, casing Mirra and I to flinch."What letter?" I asked, wondering if my father had sent another letter.Sir Hunder walked over to Mirra and I at the dining table and placed a blue envelop in front of me.I flipped the letter over and my eyes almost bulged out of my head when I realized that it was scent from the King of water Kingdom himself.I let out a loud gasp and looked up at Sir Hunder to see a large grin on his face.Dropping my eyes down at the envelop, I can see that it was scent for Barlion, hence, sent for me.Grabbing the letter with shaky hands, I carefully broke the wax and opened the envelope."To His Grace Barlion..."I have received your letter and it is a great honor to have a royal invitation. The next few days went by without a hitch. I went to the council meetings and court like usual. There hadn't been much change other than the fact that Victor starting his training. After he had announced that he wanted his rightful seat on the council, he refused to back down. I had asked the council to wait until Barlion returns to the chambers but half of them, including Victor, refused. He had insisted for the approval and if Barlion refused, Victor, Lord Dom, Lord Dorian Lord Cassian threatened that they will pay the king a visit themselves.I was forced to once again fake Barlion's signature to approve Victor's request. That was the start of the suspicion. As soon as I placed the sighed approval letter on the council table, some of then had tilted their heads, their faces morphing in to confusion.'Weird. Brother never gives in this easily when he has a stand on something.' Victor had commented and looks were shared amongst the few I consider a threat to Barlion and his throne.A

I stood up as soon as I realized that it was Lord Jeremy. The other man stared at me for a few minutes with a blank expression before he dropped his eyes to Barlion. Worry flashed through his eyes for a few seconds before he shook it off."Lord Jeremy?" I called out and tried to grab his attention. The man looked at me before he sighed and shook his head. Without saying a single word or explaining why he was here at this hour, he walked around the chambers and started lighting the candles. He lit a few around Barlion and around the dining table."Come." He ordered as a father would call his child and pointed over to one of the seats at the dining table.I glanced at Barlion for a second before I hesitantly walked over to the dining table."Sit." Lord Jeremy once again ordered before he sat down at the opposite side of the chair he pointed at.I slowly lowered myself on the chair and stared at him. For a few minutes it was all but a silent staring contest. Neither Lord Jeremy nor I sai

"That's not fair." I whispered a complaint as Lord Jeremy lectures me about the children born from outside of a marriage. It is never the child's fault and it has not their choices to be born from outside of marriage. But the punishment mostly lies on them. This children get the last of everything and that's if people want them to have anything. They have no right to their parent's wealth or properties. Not even crumbs of their families."It is the way it works. Those born of true blood need to come first. Those born outside of marriage may be bound by these laws but they are also considered to be the most dangerous. If they ever do attack, they don't have anything to lose, only to gain.""It still doesn't sound fair.""Sometimes Frost, What's right is not fair and what's fair is not right. You don't have to question the law or even understand it. All you have to do is execute it."Lord Jeremy glanced at Barlion and I realized he wasn't just talking about anyone. He was talking about

He laid under the covers on his side with my back pressed to his bare chest, his right hand fingers brushing against my large belly.I couldn't see him but I could tell that he was wide awake.
