[ IN WHICH SHE HAS QUESTIONS ]
Being in the public eye has its benefits. But I can’t say those benefits outweigh the disadvantages. I’ve had my fair share of criticism and death threats from the public. Like every other celebrity. Most of the time, my fans —or rather— haters are dissatisfied with what I do, what I say and even with what I wear. They want me to act a certain way, to fulfil the perfect model-like perception they already have of me, but the thing is, no one’s perfect, and I assure you, I, November am far from perfection. So, when I don’t do the things they want, or when I gain just a little bit of weight, or when a scandalous article gets out, I am dragged all over the internet and shamed for it.Those years were characterized with feelings of hopelessness; however, it doesn’t compare to what I’ve gone through today.I witnessed mates of mine ripped apart and thrown to the floor like chickens.Images keep flashing in my mind. And I have so many questions. Why didn’t the security guards come in and save them? What or who exactly did that to them? And why didn’t I find Luca Zhang amongst the people dead? Is it because we were both in the bathroom at the time of the unseen attack? And most importantly…“Who the fuck are you people?” I yell through the hood placed on my head.My wrist start to hurt from the ropes holding me captive. I try to wriggle out of them, but I can’t get them off. I’m seated in what feels like a vehicle. The slight bumps on the road, and the calm sound of the engine lets me know that I’m being driven somewhere.“What do you want from me?” I ask again. No one responds.I can feel the boy and the girl who abducted me sitting in front of me, in silence. I grow angrier at the situation.“Get this thing off of me!” I shake my head violently.“Atlas, why did you put a hood over her head anyways?” The girl’s tiny voice asks. From that, I can tell she’s no older than eighteen. Somewhere around my age. But why are kids murdering and abducting people? Is that what the Gen Z’s do these days for fun?“I thought that’s what you wanted me to do. I figured we wouldn’t want her seeing the way through the barrier, besides this keeps her from escaping. I did a great job, didn't I?” Atlas responds.“You useless fart. What would the King say when he hears that you treated her like a kidnapped victim?”“Well, didn’t he think of that first when he asked us to literally kidnap her? I honestly don't understand this man at times.”I hear a light slap, followed by a whimper.“Get that thing off her.”“Fine. But when she escapes, it’s your fault, Jacqueline.”After Atlas’ words, the hood is ripped off my head. The first thing I do out of anger is, I spit at the two of them. I make sure the soiled mucus from my mouth touches the both of them. The tall boy with dark, chocolate skin and curly black hair scrunches his face in exaggerated disgust. While the other girl with white hair and pale skin just narrows her gaze at me.“Let me go.” I command.Atlas groans, taking a sit on the floor of the vehicle. “Ah, this is funny, every century you return as a different character.”I don’t listen to him. “I said, let me go!” All I want is for this to be over.“You can scream all you want, but we won’t do that.” Jacqueline says in a bold tone.I eye her. This rude brat. Panting heavily, I look around the vehicle. It’s one of those where there’s a wall separating the back from the front, so I can’t see who’s in the driver seat.… [actually, there was no one in the driver seat, but i was yet to figure that out] …The back of the vehicle has no seats. It’s like the back of a van. Or rather, a wagon; which is a more suitable description. The only matter occupying space is me, and the two teenagers in front of me. We’re all sitting on the floor of the van. I don’t know where they’re taking me, but I can’t let despicable kids screw up my night. I’m supposed to attend a morning show where I talk about my profession in a few hours, and this is the last thing I need.“You kids are dumb, aren’t you?” I say to them. “You think you can do this to me, and the country’s wealthy socialites, and get away with it? The police already knows I’m missing, and they’re coming for me. And your little prank will end you behind bars. You do not want to fuck with me.”Silence swallows us, and for a second I think I’ve gotten through to my abductors, but Atlas lets out a loud laugh.“The police won’t do anything.” Jacqueline smirks.I watch the two with a frown on my face. Atlas continues to laugh, rolling on the floor of the spacious vehicle. Sweat beads on my forehead and my hair sticks to my face.“We are not kids, November. We’ve been alive for centuries. Though I like to think that I am young and handsome, I am not. Well, not the handsome part. No matter what day I age, I still remain cute!” Atlas smiles widely, almost maniacally.“Shut up, Atlas.”The boy clears his throat. “And this isn’t some prank. We had to kill those people in order to collect you.”I freeze. My sweat turns cold. “What?”My mind recollects the events from a few minutes ago. I remember seeing Atlas with blood all over his mouth and jaw. His hands were also covered in blood. Did he eat those people? What about the white haired female? She only had blades and knives attached to her clothing. But that doesn’t make her any less dangerous.Atlas laughs again, hands on his belly. “But, I promise you, we’re not bad people, November. We’re just carrying out orders.”I have to get out of here. Now!Without thinking my escape through, I fling myself toward the door on my left. I’m quick to act as my intention is to use my body weight to force the door open. After that, I can fall out of the moving van. I might sustain a few injuries, but it’s better than getting murdered by two mentally unstable children.Once I’m at the door, my body pushes it open; however, it’s not what I expected.Instead of the dark night, and the view of concrete, tarred roads, I see nothing.Absolutely nothing. There’s a storm. Brown smoke and dust everywhere, reaching far out into nothingness. A scream leaves my mouth when I look at the tires… there’s nothing there. No wheels. Which means no driver. And the wagon is floating? So the slight bumps on the road are turbulence from the storm? In a split second, I am pulled back into the van and the door is slammed shut by Jacqueline.“What the hell did you just do?” Atlas grabs the collar of my dress, pulling me away from the door. He lets go and stares at me. “You could’ve gotten us all killed.”I shake in my spot. “What was that?”“That’s the barrier,” Jacqueline says, standing on her feet. Now that she’s stood, she looks much older and intimidating. “It separates your world from our world. If you try to escape now, you’ll be falling into the void for millions of years, and you’ll keep falling. You won’t get back home if that’s what you’re trying to do, you’ll be lost in the void, forever.” She glares with her blue eyes. “So, do not move.”Atlas pouts at me. “I promise, we’re not going to hurt you. We’re trying to protect you.”… [it looked like he was saying the truth, but he didn't know what the King had in plan for me] …“Just a few more minutes and you will understand everything when you meet him. Please, stay put. Everything will make sense in a bit. He would kill us if he hears that you fell into the void, the barrier. I swear to the sky, I cannot endure another day of torture,” he says, rolling his eyes. “He is more deadly than he appears.” He mutters to himself. He? Who the heck is he?“Why are you doing this?” I ask Atlas. “Are you one of those people who threaten to kidnap and kill me over the internet?”He chuckles, the look of sympathy completely vanishing. “This has nothing to do with you being a celebrity,” he says.I sigh, tiredly. I wiggle my hands that are still tied in a rope. My butt starts to hurt from the hard floor. “Then who are you people? What do you want from me? Where are you taking me?”Jacqueline sits back on the floor. “We can’t answer the first two questions, but the last one…” She trails. “We’re taking you to the King.” That sentence draws darkness upon us. “He has asked for you, and he’s waiting patiently.”"You are taking me to the King?" I question, looking between the two."Well, obviously." Atlas rolls his eyes in a funny way as a response to my question.… [at that time, I only knew about presidents, senators, and mayors. king? i knew of no king. and i didn’t know of the pain and pleasure waiting ahead of me] …[ IN WHICH SHE PLOTS HER ESCAPE ]I have heard stories of famous personalities being held at gunpoint. About how they’ve been robbed, and even how they’ve gotten kidnapped for ransom. While telling these traumatic stories, they associated the situations with feelings of fear and panic. However, I can’t describe what I’m feeling. I don’t know if I’m scared or if I’m panicked. Because I feel something else. I feel calm— I feel at home. This world isn't my world. It is different from the luxurious world I live in. While in the Gala dinner event, it was evening, and the day was only going to get darker, but right now, the sky's as bright as ever, like we had teleported through time into the next morning. And this lets me know that I have indeed crossed a barrier that separates worlds. In this world, there are no moving vehicles, no tarred roads or even streetlights anywhere. There is no electricity. Nothing modern about the place I have been brought into. It is like time has been revers
[ IN WHICH SHE MEETS AN UNKNOWN WORLD ]I land face first into a bush. Then my legs collide with something cold, and hard. The kind of pain that pulses through me the minute I touch the ground cannot be overemphasized. Jumping from a height of 7 meters should never be done. I end up not only bruising my ankle, but also with thorns pierced into my skin. I want to scream in agony, but I can't risk getting caught. Swallowing my cries, I pick up my dress, and begin running the opposite direction of the mansion. When I’ve gotten at least 50 feet away, I turn to look at the building getting smaller and smaller. I cackle at my success, then I flip them the middle finger. Uncontrollable giggles take over as I sprint off into the unknown world. … [at that moment, i was so sure i had escaped my fate. but i didn’t know Jacqueline and Atlas were by a window, watching me run off with bruised skin. they did nothing to stop me, because they knew i couldn’t outrun my fate.] … About an hour later
[ IN WHICH SHE THROWS UP ]I lift my head back up, wiping the remnants of my puke. Breathing heavily, I lean against a tree as I wait for the world to stop spinning. I can feel his burning stare in the silence, so I tuck my curls behind my ears to get a better view of the shirtless young man with wings. He still hasn’t said anything. He’s just standing there, observing me from head to toe like some museum artifact. And I do the same. The man in front of me appears as though he has been crafted out of a fairy tale. However, he’s not the hero in the fairy tale, but the devious villain. The villain that has everyone in chokehold with his mere presence. His sword that has black smoke swirling around it is no longer in sight. It's like it disappeared the moment he set foot on the ground. I scrutinize the man with white, flawless skin. His hair is dark as the sky above us; dark, wavy strands are sat on top of his head, giving the right proportions to his sharp and square jaw. Something ab
[ IN WHICH SHE IS A DAMSEL IN DISTRESS ] From the frying pan to the fire. I ran from the market, and fell right into the hands of three hungry men, who then spiralled me into the trap of the King. If I had stayed at the harmless market a little bit longer, I wouldn't be in the fire right now. My eyes are glued to the man in front of me. I shift on my feet, uncomfortably, unsure of what to do at a moment like this. I didn't expect to cross paths with the King this way. And now that I have, what do I do?“Are you really the King?” I ask, breathless. “Why do you ask?" He tilts his head. "You do not think I am the King?"My eyes rove round the forest, looking for a route to run through if he tries anything suspicious. But I doubt I'll get that far with huge wings like his. “Let's just say it'll do us both some good if you aren't the King.”"And why is that?" His arms are folded across his bare chest. He takes a step closer, but I step back, cautiously. "Because I think the King is da
[ IN WHICH SHE ASKS FOR MUSIC ]The thick walls of the mansion echoes with screams. It echoes violently with the screams of my abductors — Jacqueline and Atlas. After I left the forest with the King, we got to the mansion in no time, where I had to fight the intense urge to puke for the third time. He then ordered for his maids to escort me back to my chambers, where I got dressed in a fresh set of clothing, and was given supper. But before I parted ways with the King, I heard him call for Jacqueline and Atlas. The two followed him into a red room by a corner. And ever since then, the two have been letting out clamorous and ear-splitting screams. It's been two hours, and they still haven't stopped. My heart skips a beat at the sudden knock on the door. Sighing in distress, I call the person in. The door carefully opens up, revealing who's behind it. It's the tall, lanky man from earlier. The one who walked in with dozens of dresses on clothe hangers. He still hasn't told me his nam
[ IN WHICH SHE MEETS THE KING ] The doors are pulled open by two guards standing on each side, and I step into the throne room. I'm first greeted by the aroma of food. My eyes then falls to the long, rectangular table, separating the King and I, keeping us at a distance of at least two meters. On the table, different kinds of meals have been arranged. The insane amount of food available is more than enough for just two people. I begin to wonder if there's a third party joining us soon. Or maybe he does eat this much. Having wings grow out of your back must require a large intake of food. I look to the King seated on his throne. He has no crown on, but he has a shirt on this time. I ask myself: why doesn't he have a crown on? How long has he been on the throne? Who put him in the position of King? And is anyone going to take over? So many questions left unanswered, hopefully for now. Something flashes in my peripheral vision, and my eyes snap to the left. That's when I notice the
[ IN WHICH SHE MEETS SIN ] Once his name is said, a voice rings in my head. The same way it did with Lake back in the chambers. At the very back of my head, there’s a loud voice screaming the name, “Sin”. I recognize the sound of my own voice. The voice in my head is definitely mine calling out the King’s name, that part is clear. What I’m unclear about is why I’m having these memory flashbacks. Memories that don’t seem to be mine, or are they? My eyes are focused on the man sat opposite me. The harder I concentrate, memories flash before my eyes. However, these memories are different from Lake’s. The voice in my head moans his name in different occasions, while in others, she screams his name in agony and pain. I flinch from the feeling. He notices this, and clears his throat. “November.” He calls my name, his voice dripping with concern. “Are you okay?” I nod, weakly. “Sin?” I ask. “Your name is Sin? What is that? No one is named Sin.” “You did not understand what I said, did
[ IN WHICH SHE SINS ] I cannot fall asleep. I've laid in my bed for hours, but sleep evades me completely. I can't find the means to rest. I’ve been restless ever since my last interaction with the King—well, with Sin—since that’s his real name. My mind keeps replaying our last encounter over and over again. I simply cannot get him out of my mind. The truth is, it’s not just the sight of him cutting his flesh open that perturbs me. There’s something else. After feeling my body up close with him, I can’t help but desire for more. Helplessly, I let out a wary sigh. I’m currently awake, because my mind won’t stop creating fantasies about a man I’m supposed to resent; a man whom I’m supposed to view as a nuisance. … [it was only natural to feel that way. i was experiencing an attraction so intense towards the one i had been fated to, but i didn’t know that, so i suppressed my emotions, which only made them worse for me, and someone else] … I gaze through the white curtains and out t
[SIN’S EULOGY] I am cursed. I have been cursed to never find love. It is a curse placed on me by God to forever live my life in bitterness and loneliness. It is the price I have to pay for waging war against Him and leaving the Heavens behind. I am sorry I dragged you into this mess. I am sorry you had to suffer with me, November. And because of this, I will let you rest. I will not reincarnate you this time. I will not put you through this rivalry and madness again. It is hard to let you go, but I know it is what I need to do. I will let you go. I will let you go, Gwyneth. I will let you go, Faye Donovan. I will let you go, November Starkey. It is time for you to rest. You have been an impeccable Queen over the years. The whole Kingdom thanks you. I just wish those years were longer. You always get taken away from me when I need you the most. Or maybe that is how it was always meant to be. I was meant to never have you. You solved the riddle. Rome’s death was the only way
warning: you may cry.[ IN WHICH SHE DIES ]November’s last p.o.v —Rome’s body trembles beneath the sword. Rome has been stabbed in the heart with his own sword. He died by his own sword, both literally and metaphorically. I watch as he immediately drops to the ground. Veins pop out of his neck, head, and hands as he starts to lose oxygen. Rome’s bloodshot eyes glare angrily at me. I can see him fighting his own death, so I push the sword in deeper so that he can't fight it.This time, I have not been possessed by Faye’s vengeful spirit. This time, it is I, November Starkey that has decided to kill. I kill Rome, because it is what that is needed to be done. This is what I should have done a long time ago.“The Kings have to leave for a purer world.” I say as tears well in my eyes. I do not know why I am weeping at this moment. Well, I guess it would make me a total psycho if I don’t feel any type of pain after killing someone. “You are polluting this world, Rome. Your rivalry with th
[ IN WHICH ROME DIES ]NOVEMBER’S P.O.V —I slam the sword onto the metal bar. The action causes a clanging sound to echo through the Castle. The most important thing that the disturbing sound does is that it causes the Lycan to drop to the ground. Since he is at his highest level of power, it means that his senses are at the highest level as well. He gets triggered by his heightened sense of hearing. Rome’s monstrous voice growls in irritation as his hairy hands clutch his ears. I watch him with teary eyes as he drops to the ground.I don’t stop there.I keep on hitting the metal bar with the steel sword.Sin’s eyes search the room for the source of the sound. Confusion swirls in his grey eyes when he sees me with the sword. His size slowly decreases as his anger turns into confusion. I watch with teary eyes as his wings shrink to normal size.I stop when Rome has attained his normal size as well. Now, he is naked, but I don’t pry my eyes away. It is normal for a wereanimal to have n
[ IN WHICH SHE MAKES A DEATHLY DECISION ]… [you have conceived a child. Luca isn’t telling a lie] …Tears form in my eyes. “No.” I stare at Luca’s face which has now assumed the color of his red hair due to the reduction in oxygen. “It can’t be.”“Please, don’t tell me you are in doubt.” He grumbles. “You sleep with a man, without contraceptives and expect to not get pregnant? Come on. It can be. You exhibited all of the signs. The morning sickness. The emotional instability. The nausea and the pain.”Right there on the floor, I start to hyperventilate. My hands start to shake.Am I not too young to carry a child? I would be twenty soon, but right now, I am nineteen years old with a child growing inside of me. What is this? This wasn’t supposed to happen. I did notice that I didn’t get my period while I served as Queen, but I always thought it had something to do with my awakening as Faye Donovan. Faye Donovan is dead. My blood is black which clearly means that I died. Dead people ca
[ IN WHICH SHE LEARNS A SHOCKING TRUTH ] NOVEMBER’S P.O.V — I rise from the ground. The air is musky. Dust particles has polluted the air. My throat closes up at the reduction in oxygen and I begin coughing hard. Tears well up in my eyes at the painful action, but soon, my lungs grow accustomed to the dirt in the air. I take in deep breaths before I begin walking. Waving my hands in the air, I try to push the smoke and dust out of the air so I can see, but it is of no use. The dust settles in the air, refusing to leave. Realizing that my efforts are useless, I blindly pave my way through the Castle. I blink several times to get a clear vision of my surroundings. That’s when I see the body of the sorcerer laying half-dead in a corner. “Lake!” I yell as I hurry towards him. I drop to my knees instantly. I pick his body into my arms, shaking him awake. It doesn’t work. Lake continues to lay unconsciously in my arms. His arms fall to his side, limply. There is no blood on his cloth
[ IN WHICH SHE HAS TO SAVE BOTH KINGS ] NOVEMBER’S P.O.V — In no time, we get to the Castle. However we stop in our tracks when we spot something unsusual — the gates. The gates are always shut and heavily guarded. But not this time. This time it has been left wide open and unguarded. “Seems Sin has already made an entrance.” Lake squats, and when he rises back to his feet, he holds a huge black feather in his hands. It is the feather from Sin’s wings. “We have to get inside now.” I nod. We leave the feather laying there on the ground as we run past the gates. Once we get inside, we spot a crowd of guards gathered at the door. Their voices are louder now that we stand close to them. They’re all speaking in a thousand tongues, so I cannot decipher what it is they are arguing about. But from the looks of it, it seems that they are struggling to get the Castle doors open. “Come on.” I tap Lake on the shoulder, and he follows me. We both run towards the guards surrounding the Cas
[ IN WHICH SHE DEBATES ON THE LYCAN KING’S DEATH ] NOVEMBER'S P.O.V —“Hurry up, Lake!” I scream, not bothering to look behind me. “We need to get there on time.”“Queen November, wait up.”“There's no time, Lake. Let's go!” That's when a hand pulls me back, forcefully. I whip my head around, my curls slapping me in the process. Once I have been forced to a stop, my chest begins to rise and fall as I pant, struggling to breathe. “Why don't we think this through for a minute, huh?” Lake asks me, panting hard as well. We are both tired. We would kill for the opportunity to find shelter and catch our breaths. We have been running through Lucian City, trying our best to get to the Castle as fast as we can. The King had let his wings out and flown over to the Kingdom. He is fast. We are slow. If we waste any more time, Rome might have already been killed by Sin. “There's no time for that, Lake.” I glance in the direction of the Castle. “We need to get to the Castle. He could be killin
[ IN WHICH SHE TALKS ABOUT LYCAN BLOOD ]I feel worse than I did earlier this morning. My hands grip the sheets as I try to reposition myself on it.After my interaction with Luca on the roof, I immediately called on Eirene to help me back to my chambers. I couldn’t walk on my own. I felt dizzy, weak, and felt like throwing up for the second time. Eirene had noticed this and quickly informed the maids. When nothing they could do helped with my fever, they called on Lake. He did all he could to help. His sorcery of healing and medicine helped bring my fever down. But I still feel like something is wrong with me. Something or someone is still swirling within me, and it doesn't feel good.… [there is something wrong with you] …Her voice echoes in the empty room.“Yeah, no shit. You don’t think I know?” I groan in pain as I try to sit up on the bed.… [no, i don’t think you know] …“What are you trying to say, Faye?” I complain. My headache gets worse each time I open my mouth to speak.
[ IN WHICH ROME DECIDES TO SETTLE ] ROME'S P.O.V —“You are here.” I say. There's a ruffling sound behind me, and then, his voice sounds. “It seems you have been expecting me.” “Yes, I have been expecting you for a weeks now. We haven't spoken in a while. I figured you were due for another visitation.” I turn around to face him. When I catch the livid expression on his face, I decide to add, “Also, I could hear your heart beating angrily in your chest from many kilometers away.” Lust has a grim expression as he glares at me. “Good,” he says. “Then you know that I am furious. That I am angry with you.”With a sigh leaving my lips, I straighten my clothes. I do not want to have a conversation with Lust this early in the morning, but knowing how he is, he wouldn't let this slide until I give him my ears. “Don't you think it is too early to be angry?” I say as I turn my back to him, facing the full-length mirror. “And don't you think you shouldn't provoke me?” I move my hands to my
