*Fiona*
I barely made it to the packhouse door, when a body came flying at me encompassing me in a hug.
"Finn..." squealed the girl. Anna was always in a good mood. She made her sunshine wherever she went, making it easy to be her friend. She broke the hug and spoke very seriously, still smiling. "Now I've already gone and told my brother off. The jerk."
"He could have handled it better, but it's not his fault," I said not wanting to talk about it. "clearly the moon goddess has other plans."
"Please, what good are plans that don't involve us being sisters?" She said putting her arm around me. I laughed at her comment. I had always admired her charisma and ability to talk her way into any situation.&nb
*Fiona* Arriving back at the packhouse after dark, I was glad I took the day to hang out with Anna and Liz. I felt like a normal person and not an Alpha, which was a nice change. There wasn't much talk about Cyrus, other than Anna deciding what outfit she wanted to wear to impress him. She chose a body-con white dress and a white cropped jean jacket to dress it down. She went heavy on some jewellery as well. She looked good, I could see quite a few males checking her out in the mall. She had insisted on picking out outfits for Liz and me as well. For Liz, she chose a sundress that brought out her feminine side. She had picked it after Liz talked a bit about the werewolf she had been flirting with at the party. She had gotten his number and Anna gave her statement to his character. Anna wanted her to have the perfect first date outf
*Fiona*Rachel was at the hostess stand when we entered the restaurant. Her eyes went wide, clearly remembering my foul mood from yesterday when I crushed my phone."A-a-alpha Fin" she stuttered "We weren't expecting you.""Last minute decision to celebrate Anna's birthday,'' I said smiling to reassure her "our usual spot will do if it's availble""Of course, right away, will Alpha David be joining us as well." She asked as she signalled someone to prepare our table."Not today," I said plastering on a fake smile. "No doubt he'll be spending the day getting to know his mate." Rachel yipped, surprised by the news, but said nothing. I
*Fiona* I turned towards the stranger, as the other left. He wore a dark designer suit with a long suit jacket. His hair was neatly trimmed and his skin was unearthly pale. His black eyes watched me unwavering, most would find it unnerving. I steeled myself for the conversation about to unfold, knowing it would only bring bad news. "I have a phone, you know," I said approaching the man. He chose to ignore my tone, instead of laughing, relieving some of the tension. "Ah, my little wolf" he spoke smiling, "Always bringing mirth to any situation." "You're far too serious," I replied. It was odd that he was being so open. "I didn't think you were a fan of meeting i
*Cyrus*Something was wrong; I could feel it. Why had Fiona stayed back to talk to the stranger? I had only been there for a moment, but Blaze had been deeply unsettled by the stranger, sending goosebumps up my arm. It wasn't their unnerving presence that had unsettled me most. It was the lack of scent. I had tried to pick up the scent to see who it was but got nothing. I didn't even realize that was possible. At least not without some strong magic.I thought about it all the way back to the packhouse, barely registering Liz or Anna's presence. Anna left pretty quickly after we got back. Partly because I ignored her on the way back, partly because Liz hurried her home. Did that mean Liz was concerned as well? We both sat on different couches in the hall for a moment. Liz also seemed uneasy. When the silence became overbearing I spoke.
*Fiona*My mind was racing a mile a minute after talking to Andre. I wasn't sure how credible his claim was, but if it was even slightly true I need to act and quickly. I was pushing the panic from my mind as best as I could. Flashbacks to my time in captivity kept flooding in, making it hard to focus. Not again, was the thought driving towards the packhouse. Never again, was my call to action.Seeing Cyrus, when I got back, was a shock. I was was equal parts thankful that he was there and annoyed that he waited up for me. Being around him seemed to chase some of the anxiety away. I stood near my office desk, still on edge waiting for Ned and Liz to arrive. It was nearly two in the morning at this point, but I felt wired. I had pulled out a map of the pack and was studying it, ignoring Cyrus' questions as he paced the office. Eventually, he gave up and stood
*Fiona*The room was only silent for a second as they processed what I told them. Cyrus was the first to speak, clearing his throat."There are...vampires," he spoke slowly to clarify what I said: "that want to...""Kidnap me." I nodded, repeating what I had just told everyone."Where did you even get this information from?" Dante asked sceptically."Andre," I said, "who is...""A vampire." Cyrus finished my sentence. I could tell this news was deeply unsettling for him as he shifted in his chair. "I'm sorry but how do we even know we can trust him?""We have a...shared history," I responded. I could tell it wasn't enough though, for Cyrus, he didn't look convinced. I added: "He owes me a life debt." The room was silent once again, I could feel what they
*Fiona*The room was in full swing, despite the fact the sun had yet to rise. Dante, Ned and Liz were in and out of the office, making contact with the necessary parties to strengthen pack defences. Cyrus had refused to leave the room, never more than a few arms lengths away from me. It helped keep me calm and my mind focused on the task at hand."We need to postpone opening the borders," he commented as we were strategizing."We can't do that" Liz protested "The entire pack has been looking forward to Fiona's birthday celebration for months. Some of the pack will be leaving to travel here in less than a day.""I'm sure they'll understand," Cyrus pointed out, turning to me to reason with Liz."I agree with Liz," I said despite Cyrus' look of protest "We can't afford to risk any of these alliances and appear weak."
*Fiona*"Can I take a shower alone?" I asked sarcastically once we entered the room "Or do you need to supervise that too?""I'll supervise if it makes you feel safer," he smiled, his eyebrows raising seductively. I just rolled my eyes."I think I can shower on my own, thanks," I said locking the bathroom door behind me. I was still covered in dirt and starting to feel my skin tighten from the dried flakes. I chose a fresh large tee-shirt, as my pyjamas, something I hadn't had to worry about before, as I never had someone sleepover in my room. The shower had been relaxing and I was starting to feel the weight of my eyelids as I made my way back into the bedroom.Cyrus decided to shower too, as I climbed into bed. While my eyes were heavy, I couldn't stop running through all the details of the plan to strengthen security, trying to see it from a new angle.&nbs
*Fiona*“Mate.” The words rang through my head. Cyrus was my mate. I felt that I had finally let go of a breath I had been holding since his arrival, realising only now that I had even been holding my breath. “Why didn’t you say anything?” I asked. I wasn’t angry, at the fact he hadn’t told me, just curious about why he didn’t. “It was the hardest thing I have ever done,” he said embracing me tightly like he was afraid I was going to run away. “I didn’t know how you would react. After what happened with David I didn’t want to put you in the same situation.” I thought about it for a moment. Would I have believed Cryus had he told me? At first, no. The past couple of days I felt like I knew, but refused to fully accept it for fear I was wrong. “I think you made the right choice,” I said after reflecting on it.Cyrus lifted my head to his and pulled me into a kiss. With the mate bond now in place, it was more electric than ever. Pleasurable sparks danced across my lips a
*Fiona*“Where are we going?” Cyrus asked as he followed me into the forest behind the packhouse garden. I could feel he was on edge as we wandered into the forest “It’s vulnerable out here.”“There are patrols out” I reassured him “They will know where I am and keep watch.” Cyrus had tripled check all of our security measures, so he knew how many wolves would be out on guard. Still, he didn’t look convinced.“You’ll see.” I tried reassuring him again. “I have a tradition on the eve of my birthday. Something I want to show you.” I sushed him when he asked what we were going to do. “We need to be quiet, to get in the right headspace,”
*Fiona*I woke up the next morning to Cryus watching me closely.“Good morning,” he said drawing me closer for a cuddle. I was enveloped in his scent and Skylah immediately started egging me on, sending graphic images of what she would like to do to Cyrus. I ignored her as best as I could, there was too much to do today.“Cyrus we need to get ready,” I whined, “the next pack will be here soon.” I started to feel my anxiety come forward. It was only one day before my birthday. I wondered what that meant for Cyrus and myself. I pushed the feeling down, I would worry about that tomorrow. Today I had to think about the other pack arriving. Hopefully, everything with the new packs arr
*Fiona*My head was reeling at all the information that was flying at me. I had never thought much about my mother’s family. They had never been mentioned growing up. Now that I knew they were family, it was obvious why they had looked so familiar. Every time I looked at Alpha Thomas or Luna Shae I would see traits that reminded me of my mother. At first, it was the eyes, but as the evening wore on I also realised there was more. Shae carried herself in the same way my mother had, light as a feather. I saw my brother's smouldering looks in Thomas’ eyes. Shae’s voice was even light like my mother's when she comforted me. I felt pain for her loss, but from that pain, something new was growing. I felt a cautious excitement to get to know this new family, hoping that they might hel
*Fiona*Standing on the steps of the packhouse waiting to greet the new pack, reminded me how little time had passed since I had greeted Cyrus in the same fashion. I remember how nervous I had been and how much I had wanted to prove myself. While I still felt like I was trying to prove myself, I was more assured and less nervous, this time around. I hoped that this time things wouldn't be turned upside down, as I was still processing all the changes that had happened in the past few days. I felt like a different person, with Cyrus, more reckless. I couldn't bring myself to see it as a bad thing."Who are we dealing with?" Cyrus asked taking a place next to me.
*Cyrus*When I awoke I was struck by a momentary panic, by the lack of Fiona's presence in bed. I nearly jumped out of bed, when I saw her sitting quietly on a couch engrossed in a book. I took a breath. When did I become so anxious? Normally I was fairly level headed, but ever since the threats against Fiona, everything seemed to be a threat. Fiona was my weakness, but I couldn't bring myself to see it as a bad thing.I watched her sitting on the couch reading. Her legs were propped up on one of the arms, making them look longer as her shorts rode up, nearly invisible under her large tee shirt. I could hear Blaze making some suggestions on how we should start the morning. I had been hesitant with Fiona so far, holding back. She was pushing me though, as she become more comfortable exploring. I would hold back for her until she was ready.&
*Fiona*I sat in my office chair, processing what Andre had said, staring at the wrapped gift on the table. When Andre had left, Cyrus walked me back to the packhouse, hand on the small of my back the whole way. As we enter my office, I could see him finally relax and take a breath. He sat across from my desk staring at the gift with much more suspicion than I."I mean it's so unlikely that I would find a mate the day of my birthday," I commented. The end of our conversation with Andre ran through my head."David did..." Cyrus commented, "You just might." There was something in his tone that caused me to look up at him. An emotion flitted across his eyes so quickly that I questions whether I had really seen it."You mean, like from one of the packs invited?" I thought out loud "I guess it's more likely if there are more wolves ar
*Fiona*The garden behind the packhouse was even lusher than the garden at the community centre. It held many different flowering plants while the community centre was more food-based. Rows of roses lined the path and lavender plants filled in empty spaces in the gardens, attracting a number of butterflies. It was a favourite spot of mine in the pack. The first thing I did when I became Alpha was to restore all the pack gardens to their former glory. The few memories I had with my mothers were of her gardening. Being here made me feel close to her, even years after her death.Cyrus and I sat in a white gazebo on the edge of the garden, watching the sunset over the packhouse. The hues in the sky complimented the colours of the blo
*Cyrus*When I woke up to Fiona in my arm, I thought I must still be dreaming. I didn't move for fear that when she woke it would all come crashing down. I watched her sleeping peacefully in awe, so delicate yet so strong. Never had I met someone who overcame so much without being jaded to the world. I debated whether or not to tell her I was her mate. Although her birthday was only a few days away the wait was proving torturous.I need to go at her pace though. I was devasted when she wanted to keep the events that transpired between us a secret, I want to shout to the world that we belonged to each other. Yet I would see in her eyes that she was still unsure about me. I didn't want to push and risk losing her so I agreed. It was difficult, as my body called out for hers. After last night, I was sure her body called out for mine as well.It proved m
