Chapter 31:
Acelin’s P.O.V
I rasped my knuckles on the mahogany double doors that guarded my mother’s parlor. The sound of the knock reverberated through the empty hallways and I took a minute to admire the woodwork while I waited on my mother to answer. Truly, there was none other like Michelangelo.
“You called, mother?” I opened the door after I had permission to come in.
“Filii amica mea!” (My darling son) My mother opened her arms for me with a gorgeous smile. “Come here!”
“Salve mater,” (Hello mother) I went into her arms with a smile. “How have you been?”
“Good, good,” she caressed my cheeks like I was still her little baby. “Come, sit. I’ve ordered to make your favorite cherry cobbler for desert today. You’ll be staying for dinner.”
It wasn’t a request but a statement so I smiled an
Chapter 32:Sanaya’s P.O.V“Now…how about the name for Acelin’s mysterious lover.”I narrowed my eyes at Lancelin, debating on giving up on one of Acelin’s biggest secrets. Acelin usually didn’t hide things from his family and if he was hiding something then it meant that either he was really serious or still undecided. But as far as I’ve known, or as much as Acelin had told me, they had been together for over a decade. If it wasn’t serious then I don’t know what was.I sighed. A deal was a deal after all and Lancelin had kept his end of the bargain. “His name is Gustav Paltro; I think you know him with him being an Incubus and all.” I told him finally.“Gustav?” Lance raised his eyebrows at me. “The womanizer Gustav Paltro who has probably slept with every woman in New York City?”“Rude!” I made a fa
Chapter 33:Sanaya’s P.O.VI woke up to the sound of my alarm clock going off.Yawning, I rose from my bed and rubbed the sleep off of my eyes. It had been past midnight when I’d arrived home last night and thankfully, my mom had been asleep. But that doesn’t mean I’m in the clear. She’ll be interrogating me as soon as I come out of my room and it’s going to be FBI level interrogation.I didn’t know if it’s just my mom or mom’s in general, but she always finds out when I’m hiding something and she usually figures out what.So without wasting any more time, I go out of bed and stretched my muscles before slipping my feet into some comfy slippers and went into the bathroom to get ready for the day.I turned on the tap at the sink and closed my eyes so I could splash some water on my face but nearly froze my hands to find out the water was ice cold. Si
Chapter 34:Sanaya’s P.O.VIt took me a while to realize that the mind-numbing feeling of despair I had felt the first time I’d seen him was completely gone. Now, looking at that handsome face, those deep blue eyes and that smile, I felt nothing but a slight sense of irritation towards him. Nothing else. It was like, after the initial shock of seeing the face of the man I once love had blown over, I now only felt what I thought I might always feel towards him…annoyance.“What do you want, Keith?” I narrowed my eyes at him.“Well, I would to talk but letting me in would be nice.” Keith shifted from one feet to another nervously but the smile was still intact on his face.“Sana? Who is it-Oh! Keith!” My mother could not have chosen a worse time to check on the door. “Why don’t you come I-”“No way in hell!” I snapped.
Chapter 35:Sanaya’s P.O.V“Where are we going?” I asked after I’d regained my composure. Thank you mother for embarrassing me in front of my boyfriend! However, I was even more embarrassed by the fact that I’d confessed to Keith that I was in love with Lancelin and he had to hear it indirectly rather than directly from me. But maybe Lancelin was trying to save me from embarrassment by pretending to not have noticed my little slip of tongue in front of Keith?“First, we need to drop by ReefWood HQ for a little help and then we’ll be heading off to Sanctium.” Lancelin opened the passenger side door to his car for me and once I was safely buckled in, he went to the driver’s side and got in.“What is Sanctium?” I asked Lancelin. “And where’s Martin?”“Martin had to take the day off.” Lancelin told me sounding a
Chapter 36:Sanaya’s P.O.VFor a few seconds, I just sat in my seat, looking at the glass dumbfounded. The red liquid trickled down the glass pane of the driver’s side window in a slow eerie manner. I watched the path of the red droplets without blinking. Was I supposed to do something? My mind was completely blank, devoid of any thoughts or feelings. My hands and feet seemed glued into place...like pieces of lead. There was something else also trickling down along with the blood. Some things…that did not belong in the window pane.I couldn’t hear anything except for a white noise. My vision blurred. The red becoming hazy before it came into sharp focus.A scream went up in the air, followed by another. And that was when my brain finally kicked into gear.I fiddled with the handle to the car door before swinging it wide open. I almost jumped out, only to be jerked back against the se
Chapter 37:Sanaya’s P.O.V“Oh, shit!”“What?” I turned to Amber to find her staring at the end of the hospital corridor, so I followed her gaze and met large, angry, emerald green eyes. Her dark hair was in a high ponytail and she wore a pure white shirt with wide bell-bottom pants with the jacket slung casually over both shoulders. She wore large silver hoops in her ears and her makeup looked all natural. She looked like the symbol of purity but now I knew to look beyond the surface, right to the blackness of her heart that no amount of white could conceal.“What is she doing here?” Acelin asked Amber. “Who told her about Lance?”“Bitch has her eyes tainted on Lance twenty four-seven.” Amber sneered. “Probably has eyes inside ReefWood or she might even be the reason why Lance is in the hospital.”But as Asmara neared the c
Chapter 38:Sanaya’s P.O.VI went to turn around but Acelin was suddenly behind me, blocking my exit.“Stop.” He told me, grabbing on to my shoulders and refusing to let go. “Look.”“You think this is some kind of a sick joke!” I spat at him but my voice broke.“Look!” Acelin growled and spun me around to face the glass, holding me in place with his inhuman strength. “Look!”My hands were balled into fists and my entire body was trembling from rage and betrayal. I refused to look at the man who could hurt me like this. Again! I was once again betrayed by the man I loved!A crash sounded from inside the room and I looked inside despite myself…to find the nurse on the floor, looking disheveled and flustered while Lancelin clutched his chest, panting like he’d run a marathon.“Leave!” His voice was hoarse an
Chapter 39:Sanaya’s P.O.VI unlocked the door to Lance’s apartment and held it open so we could both enter at the same time. After two days in the hospital where the Lance’s specialist, also a Chrone in one of the Magean tribes, had fed him several dangerous looking liquids to boost up his healing and energy without having to feed, he was discharged to go home and rest well…and do an actual feeding for the sake of his health.Lance looked fine on the outside but he was weaker than normal and his healing was slow. The bullet wound was an angry red spot on his chest that refused to subside and X-rays showed the presence of scar tissues inside his chest as well. Those potions and antidotes could only do so much.“Why don’t you take a shower first and I’ll get dinner ready?” I told him a bit nervously.“Sanaya,” Lance cupped my cheeks. “You don’t
The Accidental DateAcelin’s P.O.VMy mother always told me I was never meant for politics. I was too much my father’s son; an artist, a dreamer and a creator. But not a very good politician.Queen Valleria Eustein had tried her best to groom me in her ways, so I could be ready to take the throne in case my younger half-brother, Lancelin Eustein, turned out to be too much like his father. But it was soon realized that it wasn’t necessary. Even though both of Queen Valleria’s sons looked just like our fathers, everything else came from our mother. And we wouldn’t have it any other way.But now, looking at the man sitting opposite to me, I was beginning to feel at a loss for not having my mother’s keen outlook, her sly way of reading people just by looking at their eyes.“So?” He raised a perfectly groomed eyebrow at me, his dark, dark lips tilting up in
Winter SolsticeSanaya’s P.O.V:“There are way too many guests today…” I told Amber, clutching her hand in mine as we peaked from behind the corridors, at a safe distance from the crowd and hidden in the shadows.Lancelin had decided to throw a sort of ‘after-party’ to celebrate his coronation properly, since his actual coronation ended up in a disaster. Also, since Queen mother Valleria had rushed to get the crown on Lance’s head, the coronation had been super rushed, which meant that a lot of people, including several members of the Dark Council, hadn’t been able to attend. Hence the after-party.“Don’t be a sissy!” Amber scolded. “You’re a vampire now, a part of the immortal world itself and Lancelin’s fiancé. Hold your head high and rock the shit out of this party.”I looked at Amber wide eyed. Why
PermissionLancelin’s P.O.V:“How do I look?” I asked Acelin as he raised an eyebrow at me.“I don’t think there’s anything wrong with the clothes or your hairstyle.” Acelin shrugged, looking me up and down. This was probably the first time in my life that I had asked my older half-brother for his opinions on my clothes and he was quiet enjoying my dilemma. It may not look like it but I’d put a lot of effort into today’s clothes and my appearance. I had dumped my usual dark suits for a steel grey suit jacket and trousers, paired with a sky colored shirt. I had also combed my hair back and skipped the gel. Light colors are supposed to make you more attractive and charming, right?I had also chosen the flowers carefully as well as the gifts and I had made sure that the dinner reservations were up to the mark. Everything had to be perfect
Epilogue:The Dark Council Vault“Thank you for gathering here,” Miaka spoke to the general audience, her brothers and sister, gathered around a round table. The vault was mental and every member was here through their sub-consciousness; but every decision made here was very much conscious. She had been able to create these mental vaults since she was a child and they became very useful as she grew up when she could arrange emergency Dark Council meetings without everyone having to be physically present. She had been influenced by the legend of King Arthur and his round table for his knights while designing the outline for this mental room, in which all the Knights bore equal power. Similarly, all Kings and Queen here were equal, even though they considered her their leader. Each King/Queen was also given a throne to sit on.“We are here today to discuss a pressing issue at our hands.” Miaka looked
Chapter 61:Sanaya’s P.O.VThe entire terrace was lit up like a Christmas tree. Fairy lights hung from the railing of the terrace and the roses were bordered with red fairy lights to bring them to life. Even the gazebo was lit up and there were red velvet drapes all around them to give us privacy. But the biggest surprise was the table set in the middle of the terrace, right in front of the lotus shaped fountain. It has several food items, wine and even champagne and what appeared to be a red velvet cake, all surrounded by fresh plucked roses.“Happy Birthday.” Lance whispered into my ears as he wrapped his arms around me from behind.“Oh my God…” I whispered in surprise. “It’s November 3rd already? How could I have forgotten my own birthday?”“I don’t blame you.” Lance said, still whispering so as not to ruin the serenity of
Chapter 60:Sanaya’s P.O.VEvery Incubus in the Kingdom mourned the loss of the former King. They were spared the gory details about his advent into darkness and how he wanted to manipulate Mages and other creatures of Shadowland to gain control over other dimensions. It was a unanimous decision by the Queen mother, Lance and Acelin. The people will remember Nathaniel Eustein as a just King who died to save his son from a corrupt mage. He would become a hero and Lancelin could rule proudly as a martyr’s son rather than the son of a traitor. Everything had been calculated carefully to secure Lancelin’s rule and I was in agreement with it no matter how much it hurt to stand in the front line of the grand funeral service that had been arranged for the King.“Sometimes, it’s the best option to grin and bear than to face a revolt. I’d survived the loss of my mate…I cannot bear to surv
Chapter 59:Sanaya’s P.O.V“Martin?” The King asked with a frown, his hands still holding me down on the bed.“I’m trying but nothing seems to work on her.” Martin looked at me confused before chanting another spell…but once again, nothing happened.“What the hell are you doing, you useless bruja!” Nathaniel yelled at Martin and the next instant, he was being slammed against the wall beside the bed, allowing me to untangle myself from the bed sheets and scurry away. When I noticed that Martin and Nathaniel were focused on each other, I got off the bed and rolled under it, away from their sight. I needed to plan my escape but I had to get away from their line of vision first.“Martin!” Nathaniel spoke a warning, but Martin didn’t loosen his hold. I didn’t know what happened next but very calmly, Nathaniel told Martin to loosen hi
Chapter 58:Lancelin’s P.O.V“Mauve?” Miaka asked surprised as we all rushed out of the dungeons. “But she’s dead.”“Yes and she’s left behind a disciple.” I spoke through gritted teeth as betrayal made my blood boil. “Martin.”“How’s that possible? Martin is without any magean powers.” Acelin said as he rushed to keep up with my strides. “He’s no better than a human.”“Have you heard of dark mages?” I asked them both, pausing for just an instant so I could look at their faces and instantly, Miaka’s eyes widened. “You have, haven’t you? Tell me everything you know.”Miaka might only be sixteen in human years but she had the mind of a genius. She was also very curious and was always looking for clues and details of every race, every species that existed on Earth and learnin
Chapter 57:Sanaya’s P.O.V“Your Highness,” I sat up in bed after much difficulty.“Ah, it’s alright, my child.” King Nathaniel spoke cheerfully. “Stay in bed, you’re injured.”I listened to him and leaned back against the headboard, my strength wasn’t back to full potential yet and my body was aching, but I felt a lot better than I did a few moments ago. The only problem remained the thirst. I knew I had to drink blood but I was trying to avoid the deed for as long as I could.“I’m sorry for not being more presentable, Your Highness.” I told him sincerely. “I wish we could meet under favorable circumstances.”“Oh, what nonsense!” The king waved it off and sat on the edge of my bed. “I should be the one saying sorry for not visiting you earlier. How are you feeling?”“I’m good,
