The Rivalry

Chapter 7

Jason was currently in his room when he heard a knock on the door. It was their butler, so he lazily opened the door for him. He was a bit annoyed since it is too early and he still wants to sleep, his irritation grew the moment he saw the man behind Robert. It was no other than Tyler.

“Good morning, young master. You have a visitor I told him to wait downstairs but he was so eager to come with me.

“Hey dude, good morning.” Tyler said.

“What so good in the morning, when your annoying face is the first one I saw.” Jason said.

Instead of being offended, Tyler just laugh out loud and did not mind Jason’s hostility. He then went inside his friend’s room without a warning. Jason is really pissed as he follow his gaze to Tyler who went straight into his bed and lay down there as if he was the owner. Robert just laugh and shook his head before he spoke.

“Just call me if you both need anything.” Robert bowed his head. He was ready to leave when Jason spoke.

“I need you to get this thing off on my bed especially in my room Uncle Robert.” Jason said.

He pointed Tyler who is now lying comfortably in his bed and laughing heartily. Uncle Robert once again shook his head and turned his back after he closed the door. Jason then turned to Tyler and jumped on him. The two wrestled on Jason’s bed just like the old times. They have never done it for a long time. Jason’s irritation was then fade and was replaced with joy.

He then realized he missed his friend so much. Jason was upset not because his father always see Tyler as the best but it is because he was jealous of him and Katie. He always check on Katie’s social media accounts and almost every day she is with Tyler.

The reason behind why Jason did not get involve with any women is because of Katie. She is the only woman in the world for him and the only person that knows about it is his best friend Tyler. The three of them grew up together, but Katie moved to another country and few years later Tyler moved in the same country together with his father but Tyler's father needs to go back to the country to take care of his business so Tyler was left there and now he comes back.

“Hey bro. Is Emerald really your girlfriend?” Tyler asked after a while.

“Yes, are you doubting my charm? You think a beautiful woman like Emerald could not fall for a man as handsome as me?” he said boastfully which makes Tyler laugh.

“Conceited as always. But it’s not that bro. I know your thing for Katie that is why I’m doubtful.” Tyler explained.

“Well, that was just an infatuation. What I have for Emerald is real love.” Jason lied.

He saw how Tyler’s eyes flamed and his face darkened. Jason has no intention to lie to his best friend but he was thinking of Emerald’s safety. She is never safe with this man and there is no way she could escape from Tyler if he finds out she is single. He knows Tyler and he will do whatever it takes to have her in his bed and be wrapped around his finger.

Emerald is naïve she might be tough but she is innocent and she could never handle someone like Tyler. She often says she is wise and she knows better because of her mother’s awful experience but who knows if she will be able to think right if love will hit her hard.

“I see. So what did you do to have her say yes?” Tyler asked curiously.

“Well, I just show her the real me. Let’s not talk about her, let’s talk about you. What are your plans?” Jason asked.

“There’s nothing much to talk about me. Nothing interesting, but yours is more interesting. You never mentioned Emerald to me. Tell me more about your love life.” he said.

“You seem interested about my love life huh. But I have this feeling though that you are more interested with the love of my life and not my love life.” Jason suspiciously said.

“I must admit, your girl is really interesting.” Tyler said.

“Dude, I’m ready to forget our friendship if you dare touch Emerald. She is very precious to me and I will never let anyone hurt her.” Jason warned.

“Whoa! Relax, man.” Tyler said.

Jason lost it and he is now grabbing his best friend’s collar tightly. Remembering how Katie smiled in the pictures when she was with Tyler and imagining him hurting Emerald made him so furious that he was out of control. Tyler did not expect that reaction from Jason. He never gets angry easily and now it looks like he can punch him anytime.

“I was thinking you are dating Katie and now you are planning to steal my girlfriend.” Jason said as he let go of Tyler’s collar forcefully that made the latter fell from the bed.

“Katie? Why would I date Katie when I know you are madly in love with her? What do you think of me a traitor?” Tyler said as he stood up from the fall.

“Well, that is not what I saw on the pictures of her i*******m.” Jason unconsciously said.

“You are stalking Katie?” Tyler said.

It was then that Jason realized what he said. His best friend just caught him red handed and there is no way that he could get back what he said. He wants to punch his face for being so clumsy and not watching his words.

Tyler has this suspicious smile on his face and he seems so happy to know that Jason is stalking Katie which means that he is still in love with her. His hopes to get Emerald then soar up. There is a big possibility that they really had no relationship at all.

“I am not stalking Katie. Why would I do that? I have a girlfriend and I love her.” Jason denied.

“Yeah right. You know what, I have this strong and intense gut feeling that you and Emerald are just friends.” Tyler concluded.

“Well your gut feeling is very unreliable. You just can’t accept it because you like my girlfriend.” Jason said.

  “Fine, but I never dated Katie. In fact, we just saw each other once and that was when before I flew back here. So the pictures you saw were just last week and how long have you been in a relationship with Emerald? You’ve been stalking Katie while you already have a girlfriend that is still cheating bro.” Tyler said.

“I am not stalking Katie and I am not cheating. I would never do that to my girlfriend I love her.” Jason said and he was glad to see Tyler’s angry face as he said how much he loves Emerald.

“Yeah you are not cheating but loving Katie while you are in a relationship with someone is still cheating. What if Emerald finds out, she will be very hurt.” Tyler said.

“Don’t’ mess with me bro. Are you trying to destroy our relationship?” Jason said.

“Of course not bro.” Tyler denied.

He really wants to laugh with all the words that he just said but he tried hard not to and just fake a cough as his way to hide his smile. He was glad that his assumptions were wrong because Katie and Tyler are not dating hence, his best friend said that they only saw each other once. But he never take back what he said that Emerald is really his girlfriend.

Jason decided to protect Emerald at all cost. Even if it means that he has to lie to Tyler. Everyone would say that his friendship with Tyler is very strong since they know each other since they were little, they grew up together and knows each other so much but for Jason Emerald is much more important despite that their friendship are only months while his and Tyler’s are decades.

Emerald means so much more to him, he is ready to lose Tyler but not her. He can imagine his life without Tyler and their friendship but he surely does know that he will be lost without Emerald. And as for Katie, he does still love her but now he slowly accepts the fact that she can’t love him back. From the start he knows that she is in love with Tyler.
