Teaming up with the Enemy

“Lucian," Adams muttered under his breath, his voice tinged with a mix of surprise and concern.

Lucian slowly descended the stairs, his steps deliberate and measured, as he addressed Adams. "What's wrong? You looked startled to see me," he said, his voice carrying a touch of accusation.

He continued with a hint of bitterness, his words dripping with tension. "Or did you think I would never return? Is that your fervent wish, that I never come back?"

Adams swallowed hard, his throat tightening as Lucian approached him. The proximity sent shivers down his spine, his fear palpable.

"My Alpha, I'm glad you're back," he managed to say, but his face betrayed the conflict within him, revealing his underlying apprehension.

He was acutely aware that Lucian would inevitably return to the mansion, that his cherished freedom could not last forever. However, the timing of his return couldn't have been worse.
