My eyes snapped open. An audible gasp bounced around my bedroom. I dashed from the bed. The sheet tangled around my feet and I landed on my face. A, "Fuck," was torn from my lips. Regardless, the pain was forgotten at the memory of the dream.

What the fuck was that?

My eyes scanned the darkroom. Even though I was no longer in a dream, I was drowning in fear.

A sigh left my lips at the realization.

I scrubbed my palm over my face, getting rid of the panic. Once my heart calmed, I flicked the sheet off and went for a shower.

Unlike the other nights, tonight I woke without a headache. However, the terror I had experienced was still on my mind. The mermaid could not be forgotten.

Merfolks and land people had similarities. Yet, they were different all the same. Merfolks could manipulate their outer structure to adapt to their surroundings. Therefore, we could appear as land people in their world. However, land people could not do the same in ours. Our respiratory systems were also different. Though land people could survive minutes underwater by holding their breaths, they could not outdo merfolks, who could go days out of the ocean water.According to human biology, merfolks were the superior species. We didn't destroy our home and endanger other species. Even though we could be considered predators, we didn't start wars with other species or hunt them for fun.Let me not even mention our coupling organs, or what this biology book called sex organs. Land people had no shield or covering for their coupling organs. How insane

He was indeed a great leader. With a bad attitude. It could be something he inherited from being on land for so long."We used to think the rules were ridiculous," Alex went on. "There were so many, and every one of them involved not being around Shelliot or Mrs. Brown. Sophie and I used to make fun of him. Marv often got upset when we broke the rules. He still obsesses over those rules. But, there was always a new one every day. We couldn't breathe."Right. Rules were always overbearing. But, as my father once taught me, for a kingdom to run smoothly rules had to be implemented. Rules helped to keep order, peace. If there was none, then we all would be chaotic and disoriented. And, land people did need order more than any other species.I turned to Alex. "Is that why he was upset yesterday? Becaus

Marine psychology.I was doing two majors in college: Marine Biology and Business. The Business major was studies to prepare me to take over the family business, my Dad's company. Marine Biology was to help me understand marine life. This was my Mom's idea. It was either I learned about it in college or she would have sent me to the ocean to be a 'real' prince.Regardless of the extra push from my parents regarding my education choices, I was an excellent student. Straight A student. Unlike my friends, I had a photographic memory. I could read a passage in the morning and remember it three months later. Mom said it was because of who I was: a part of her mer-family. According to her, mer-folks mentally soaked up anything and everything. Therefore, I had never failed a course before.Never.&nb

When I was not enjoying the privacy of the cave, my next best place to go was Marine Park. Something about this place calmed me. Mom often said it was because of marine life. More days than some I believed her. Other than the fact the animals were annoying, they were great to talk with. They had the weirdest pieces of advice no human would ever think of. All in all, this place was cool-ish.Therefore, whenever I had assignments this place was the first on my trip to gaining an A+. The tranquility and inspiration this place had to offer worked like a charm. I would sit on the cushioned seat across from the displays of sea creatures. Once my book was out, words started flowing. The after effect would be an A+. Well, that was before I stepped foot in Professor Saunder's class.Three minutes into my quiet time and my cell phone rang. With all that was g

Alex flashed me a bright, yet uncertain smile. "GPS."I sat staring at him. Why didn't I think of that? My phone was still on.Son of a bitch!"What'd you want?" I inquired through gritted teeth. Two tiny lines pinched between Little Miss Mermaid's eyebrows. Her pink lips tightened. If it wasn't for Alex staring at my assignment paper, I would have thought she was glaring at me."You got another C?" he asked, avoiding the question.I sighed, and stuffed the papers in my backpack, crushing them in the process."Yeah," I murmured. "That bitch is trying to destroy my life. We had sex once, and she

Rules were implemented for a reason. Sometimes we also disobeyed them. Why? More times breaking them meant freedom, and freedom was what we desired. This was not so with Alex. He wanted to break the rules to help. Yet, no one saw it that way. He and Sophie had been arguing for quite some time. Though their voices were lowered, and they were no longer the cynosure of the room, their body languages said it all. And, by the clenched jaws, and flushed faces, we would be here for a little longer. The prince had left them and went into the tunnel-like structure of the glass place. When I went to peek at him, he was sitting on the floor. He fit in with the beauty of this place. It was as if we were under the ocean. However, if I could remember correctly, the creation called glass protected us from the water. Sea creatures of various kinds were swimming on both sides of the glass and above us. It was magical

I slid on a stool around the island."Is this the part where I would say, I don't know what you're talking about?" Her words sounded more of a tease than anything else.I glared at her back. "I'm talking about Alex. You—"She cut off my sentence when she pivoted on her heel with a large wooden spoon held out to me. • The Hidden King   Author's Note

Marvelon's story has come to an end. I had so much fun with this story. It has blossomed so much since it started. The first draft was way less complicated than this final piece. The original version was a love story about Aqualia and Marvelon. However, as I wrote, the panster in me came alive. New characters joined the story and the old characters played new parts. Their lives were molded differently. Gosh, most of them probably hate me for all the tribulations I have put them through.Oh, I bet Marvelon does. Aqualia might be. A little. Oh, my gosh, since we are on the subject, I can only imagine what is going through Aquant and Torus's heads. 'All my possessions for the head of the author'. Yep, or maybe they would threaten to find me. Oh, yeah, that's it.Still, they are my babies. Torus is my favorite character in the entire story, and I thoroughly enjoyed the scene where he and Guardian Shelliot sparred in the cave at the Antarctican Manor—yes, I am the psycho who enjoyed reading

"Sorry I'm late, guys," Fel swam into the cave. "Prince Torus has become such a big baby these days."I never thought I would hear those words. Baby and Torus in the same sentence. Though he and Sophia mated, he acted aloof to the entire situation. If it had not been for Sophia and Mitch, I wouldn't have thought the guy would be mated. He was just that kind of asshole. Sophia didn't seem to mind being mated to him or Mitch. I mean, come on, she chased after an ass like me for years. I just wished she would have gotten a better ending rather than Mitch and Torus. After all, she had been through, she deserved so much more.Mitch sighed. "Where is he now?""He's in my chambers, sleeping," Fel answered."What's wrong with him?" I probed, looking for answers.Aqualia's shoulders bounced."He's rejecting his coupling urges," Fel responded. "The more he does it, the more he's losing control. And, a merger losing control is n

My heartbeat pounded in my ears. When the executive stated that the King needed my presence in the King and Queen's quarters, I panicked. Mitchalus has time and time again pointed out he had no interest in sleeping in the same quarters. This was the main reason we avoided this area. It was not meant for us. Which would explain my nervousness.Mitchalus was not the type of person to change his mind out of the blue. He would fight it until I submitted. However, before he did no such thing. Instead, he helped my ruined Kingdom to go under construction. It had to mean he accepted where we were and decided to let me go. For some odd reason, I was heartbroken. It was a much more wrenching feeling than anything else.Mitchalus gave up. It should have made me happy. All I ever wanted was to be rid of this Kingdom and ruled in mine. Now, Mitchalus was giving me the chance to do so and it was like my world was ending.Stupid girly feelings!I had ho

"Are you sure you want to do this, Mom?" I asked as she got ready to leave. It was not that I didn't want her to go. That was the plan, after all. But my visit home was different. There was a tension there that was odd. My house was always a cheery place. It made me feel comfortable and safe. However, when I went home, that calm was gone. It was as if everyone was holding on with a thin line.I couldn't tell if it was me. My relationship with Fel was not too stellar. She was different. No longer was she shy or sweet. She only stuck around because she needed my help to free Craig, and she was not afraid to let me know. Around everyone else, it would appear that she was the perfect mate. Behind the scenes, she was a monster. Too headstrong and determined to do things her way.She couldn't wait to get away from me. The more she rebelled, the more I craved her. I needed help, it was clear with my interest in women. Still, I couldn't help myself. Fel subm

My heart rate went off the charts. A chill ran down my spine. The anger in Fel's eyes had me paralyzed in the spot. This was the first time I have ever seen her and she did not look innocent and shy. The determination and anger were aimed at me. It didn't matter, though. All I wanted was to kiss her. For some strange reason, she was way hotter than before. It could be the aquamarine dress. It was too provocative to be considered such. The majority of her breasts were spilled out from the deep V neck design. The two slits on each of her thighs were enough to keep my eyes on her movements. If that was not enough, the material was thin to invite every heterosexual male. Yet, it was thick enough to hold everything from the viewer. Her hair was down. The crown was a perfect addition to the colors in her hair. Her hair had gotten longer. It swayed from her hip with the wind."Fel," I breathed. She hissed. "How dare you! How dare you!"

"We'll go to see her now," I ordered Amoria.Time waited on no man. I didn't have time to waste. The sooner we found the Seer, the better things were."Aren't you supposed to be resting?" Amoria observed me. "Your mother just died."If I had not been smart and severed my connection to that mermaid, I would have to be resting now. The excruciating pain would have been enough to keep me bedrisen for at least a few days.I pushed from my throne and swam up beside her. "She was no mother of mine. She doesn't deserve that title. I refused to be held back by such a mermaid.""Hmmm." Amoria opened a portal before us. "You really have changed. It's kind of scary. Too bad, I know how to handle crazy bitches."A corner of my mouth twitched at the comment. "Look who's talking? You're the craziest of us all.""Damn right about that."Neither of us moved as the hole got bigger. I didn't trust Amoria one

The three guards never moved or said anything. One of them was keeping a secret, yet none of them wanted to talk. I shifted my tail, getting more comfortable. If they thought they would get away with using their powers against Craigleon, they had the next thing coming."Craigleon was the best person in this Kingdom," I admitted. "I'm sure all three of you can agree. He must have helped each of you in one way or another. He helped me in more ways than one. He taught me things my parents were too busy to teach. He was patient and kind. The kind of person that you couldn't help loving."One encounter with my brother changed many lives. He was a beautiful man, inside and out. Mother's masterpiece. It was no secret she loved him more. If he had been born a girl, she would have tossed me aside from the very beginning. Maybe I wouldn't have been born."When I was younger and scared Craigleon was the one who snuck in my chambers and sang to me until I fell a

Everyone bowed at my arrival to the Bedding Cave. This place was essential to our Kingdom. The cave rested beside The Bedding. Once the star has been passed on from one Queen to the next, the previous Queen would be taken to this cave. Here she could relax and pass away in peace. The Bedding is next to it, which helped to rest her shell of a body there once she passed on to the ancestral world.Father was the only one in the Mother Queen chamber. The minute he noticed me, he moved from the chair beside Mother's bed."Fesel, are you okay?" he asked. Though his lips moved, his facial expression held no ounce of concern. If I had not known the other side of my father, his behavior would have fooled me like it did everyone else. However, I knew what he was like as a Father. And, this was not it. The spark he once had was gone. I needed to know what he did that caused him to look this dead. I needed to know the truth. My eyes fluttered open. It took me a while to recall my current situation. I was a Queen, my mother was on the brink of death, and here I was. My heartbeat pounded in my temples. I swung my tail from the bed and sat up."Your Majesty, you are awake," the dark sorcerer rushed to me. "You gave me quite the scare."Oh right. I sought out the dark sorcerer to get rid of all connections to everyone close to me. Mother was on the brink of death and I didn't want to feel that useless heartache. Therefore, I had it all taken away. I shouldn't have to suffer if any of them die. None of them took my pain when I suffered. None of them."I thought you might have died for sure," the dark sorcerer went on. "I warned you about that spell. It is a miracle you are still alive. Breaking a connection with one person is as much stress on your body, much less three people all at once."The pain was excruciating enough to cause me to lose consciousness. I
