He was blocked. There seemed to be things that were missing. He was trying to focus on things that he could see, but then they would disappear. He didn’t know what was going on. He had holes in his memories. He didn’t know if it was his own block or something he could really remember. He could have been too young or only heard a few things, and he made the memories.
This was too much for him right now. He took his deep breath in, and then he looked up. The family that was there was loading up in a car. He looked as he saw the girls in the back of the car. They almost looked happy but scared at the same time. He noticed it, but there was nothing out of place that he could say anything. It was the detective in him.
The happy family that was in front of him was an illusion, much like his own. He then heard his phone buzzing. He looked down at it, and he saw the number that was calling. It was the one person he had never felt really close to.
“What is that supposed to mean?” his mother asked on the phone. That was the tone he knew well. The coldness was there again.“Never worry about Michael,” Max said with a sigh. “That is how it has always been.”“What do you mean?” his mother said.“You had two sons, mom,” Max said. “I was just the replacement for Michael.”“You were never a replacement. How could you even think that? Michael stayed with us, and you left!” His mother raised her voice. “That deserves some respect.”“Of course it does, mom,” Max said with a sigh. “I don’t want to really argue right now. Things aren’t really good right now. I need to figure a few things out.”“How about you come home for dinner?” his mother asked. “No one else but us and Michael.
It was three days later as he sat in the staff meeting with all of the professors for the department. He hated these more than everything else. As the dean of students and the one for the department were talking at the front of the room, he was earning a few looks as well from the other professors. He knew his appearance had changed slightly. The two cuts on his face that he had made when he tried shaving a few days before had only made it, so he couldn’t really shave for the next few days. Though he preferred to be clean-shaven right now, the look slightly rugged. He had seen the females on campus looking at him even more as well.He didn’t want the attention. He wanted them to heal so he could shave all the hair off. He was listening half-heartedly to the two men in the front of the room speak. It was when they started talking about the next year. “We do have some re
He leaned back in the chair, reading the emails. He remembered the tiny clue that Deanna had found that broke open the last major case he had worked on. He knew that this would be the same as that one. One small thing would unravel the entire case.He had the financials of Samantha’s father. He knew that the older man was involved. His wife had been the one to actually hand them over. It was like she had wanted the older man who was her husband to go down in flames. There was no love lost between the couple from everything that Max could see.She hated the man she was married to. It all had to do with the incident ten years ago. The one that Max featured the main part in. He knew that the woman kept saying things about it. They managed not to get an actual answer from her, but he knew. She wanted this. She needed him to finish this for her.It was now a race to the finish.Max tho
“Would you like to take a seat?” Max asked.“Actually, would you mind taking a walk? It was a drive to get here, and I would like to stretch my legs.” Rita said. “My mother called me when I landed from getting into the country. She asked me to come and find you. Where she might have a conflict of interest in talking to you openly with you, she knew that I would not have the same issue.”“We can walk outside,” Max said as he looked at her and he stood up. He stepped over the piles and made it to the door. He shut the door and locked it. Then he motioned for her to walk out of the building. As they moved up the stairs, Max waited for her to talk. He opened the door for her, and she chuckled.“A man with good manners.” She said as she looked at him. “If I were you,
“Do you know who she was involved with?” he asked as he looked at her.“My guess it was someone close because she couldn’t ever let that out. Not everyone would have accepted her lifestyle.” Rita said. “My father probably used them as well. I hate to say it, but it wouldn’t surprise me to think he would have enjoyed watching and taking part in things that most would consider taboo.”“I understand why your mother wouldn’t say anything,” Max said. “She must be torn.”“Not in the way that you think. Don’t think my mother was doing anything other than protecting herself.” Rita laughed. “I didn’t like my sister. She was the favorite one growing up, and then I felt sorry for her. I knew she was being used from the time she started to lie. That was maybe the year before your
Max went down into the basement and to the room that was well monitored. He scanned his id and then walked into the surprise of the people who worked in there. It wasn’t often that someone came down there in person. They looked at him like he was an alien of some sort. He grinned and knew he was being the one who was out of place. “Hi,” Max said. “I have a case where one of my main suspects might have been involved with a lawsuit that was probably criminal but more likely civil dealing with an underage female.” “If the suspect is not in jail, it was probably civil.” One of the men said as he pushed up his glasses. “That was what I was thinking,” Max said as he looked at the four people that were in the room, still staring at him. “Is there a way for me to access the trial notes?” “If it was not criminal, I don’t think there will be any notes for it, but we can tr
The woman looked up and was like deer caught in headlights. She glanced at Max and then shook her head for a minute and then back at him. Max smiled even more. It was nice to know he had that much of a different effect on the woman now. Ten years ago, she would have never looked at him in the first place.“Urm.” She said as she watched him enter the room. “I don’t believe that we did know each other.”“We did, Marie. I was the fateful one who was chosen to go out with Samantha for prom.” Max said.“I don’t believe that.” The woman said as she looked him over again. “You can not be the one who stood on the side of the room the entire night.”“That was me,” Max said as he smiled even more. “Now, I do believe we have a few things to discuss. As you already know, Samantha died over a month ago. I
“What about them?” Marie asked as she looked at Max.“Where they close to Samantha?” Max asked.“No,” Marie replied as she thought about the family in question. “Rita was always in the background. She and Sam never really talked. I can’t remember them ever being like sisters.”“Why was that?” Max asked. He was getting a little background on the people he would have to call upon a little later. The DA wanted as much as possible on this case. The pressure to close it was growing, and Max knew it was only a few weeks away from being completely done. This was finding out thing to put in his report on the people who will have to answer the tough questions on why Samantha was the way she was.“Rita knew the truth. She also hated that her father liked Samantha so much more. It wasn&rsqu
The next few days Max was completely engrossed in going over the course from the beginning to the end. He had already rewritten at once and now he was going to make it more specific period he was already looking up case files and everything else that he could possibly do to get everything completely set. Though the paperwork Adam actually come in yet he was betting that it would any day now. He was OK with the fact that it wasn't totally official because he had the men’s word and his own captain's word working for him. He knew that they just had to make it more transferable on paper. He would leave that to them knowing that that was what it was going to be.the next few days he was also dealing with Deanna who is still in the middle of her grief. Though it seemed to hit her at random times it was still hitting her out of the blue. She was dealing with everything as she always did with her head held high even if she had tears in her eyes. She was really try
Max stop Deanna and the kids off at the university and then he went to the Academy. He knew that it wasn't going to take very long for him to go over everything. When he did get there he was ushered into their conference room and he passed out the folders to the three Deans of the different academies. He knew that that was going to be the number one thing that he had to do was make sure that he sold the program. He was good at selling himself as well. He had been doing it for years since he left the military. One of the things that he had to learn that in the civilian world it was his reputation that was going to get him very far. The fact that he had been in the military and woon did in battle wear something that people wanted to know about. So he had found a way to tell them without actually telling them anything. He had a normal way with words that was able to make the most complicated thing seem uncomplicated. That was also one of the reasons w
“what did she mean that it's part of the code?” Dana asked when they got into the car and Max had already started driving back to their house.“law enforcement spouses usually stick together. just like they say that there is a blue wall sometimes meaning that officers will stick with each other and not let the civilians know what really goes on. The same goes for their wives. Despite the fact that penny is also a part of it she is add detective wife. She knows all the rules in jazz who knows what it's like to be a new mom. And also have things surrounding you that you don't particularly want there. When they got married it was pretty rough. however I really didn't know them then I had only just heard what happened. It's not a pretty story but one day maybe I'll tell you. For right now just know that you always have her friend in her. So you can tell her anything that you need to plus she's a doctor so she can help out at times.” next said
Max had been surprised the entire night. Everybody had been on their best behavior when they actually saw Deanna standing next to him. And then of course the two kids. Henny was smiling like there was no tomorrow because she knew that he had finally gotten what he always wanted. Mac kept smiling too but it was for a different reason and Max knew that as well. This was definitely going to be one of those things that they were going to have to do frequently enough that Deanna needed to feel comfortable around them. He didn't actually believe that couples should have too many friends that were not other couples. He was kind of old fashioned in the way that he thought. She could have as many friends as she wanted that was perfectly fine but they would probably spend more time with other couples. It just seemed not to cause as many problems in any relationship. At least that was his view of it and like he knew he could learn something else.Mac was more
Max knew that he had to explain a few things on the way over to the other couples house. So he began to give them a rundown of everybody that was there including the kids. He also explained how him an Mac were friends to the point that it was like Max was one of their kids as well even though he was pretty much the same ages them. it was one of those interesting relationships that Max had filled his life with before he was able to deal with anything really personal. He also then began to explain slightly how they knew about her well before they had become a couple. “so just so you understand that they're going to probably be teasing me a lot and giving me a lot of crap. It's going to be because of you but that's OK.”“what do you mean it's because of me?” Deanna asked if she looked at him she was slightly surprised after being very amused with the way that he was explaining his friends to her. It wasn't like she had a
He meant what he said when he said he wanted to out and celebrate. It wasn't very often that he had the opportunity to spoil the woman that he loved and take his kids out at the same time period though he wasn't exactly short how that was going to work. So he decided that he was going to take them out for a nice meal when his phone began to ring. Halo down and saw that it was a person that he was actually just thinking about Mac Paulin who is another detective in one of the sister police precinct. They had worked a few cases together and they had also worked on a case that had basically changed Mac and his wife henni’s life for a little bit.Mac was one of maxs friends. He didn't really consider many people to be his actual friend but they had actually become rather good friends over the past few years. Henni where's the local medical examiner prefer one of the counties nearby. She also consulted with different police precincts as well.“What
Packing everybody up with a little bit easier and he knew that this would become a routine eventually. He knew that he was going to have them there for as long as he worked in the building. He grabbed his folders and put them in his briefcase and then gave Henry his bag. Henry just looked at him like he had completely lost his mind. “When it's time to go home I'm gonna give you this bag. And we're going to pack up the things that you want to take home with you. We can't come back to the university at night so we're going to make sure that we take everything that we want. Remember you have lots of toys at home as well so you can leave some things here. but I know that you wanna take bear and blankie with you.” Mac said as he looked at him and then he began to help Henry pick up the things that were the most important. “We're going to leave your bed in your sisters bed here so it's easier for mommy and me.”“DD is mommy?
Watching the man storm out of the room and go upstairs with something that Max was going to take huge amount of pride in doing. He was more than happy to sit back and wait for the repercussions to actually happen. None of that actually mattered to Max right now. The way that he had thought of it was it was going to be something that they were going to have to deal with anyway period now the fact that he possibly had another job waiting for him that was going to be better would be the absolute feather in his cap right now.that happened to be the moment that his phone rang right before Deanna could actually say something to him about what had just happened. “hello this is detective Anderson.” Max stated into the phone as he had an idea of what the number actually was. It wasn't the one that he had called before but it was a very similar number so he had to assume that it was a police Academy calling him back.“detective Ande
After about 10 minutes of trying to get around exactly what the man was saying Max had enough. He was absolutely just thoroughly enjoying the fact that the man was so flustered that Max kept coming back with something else. It was like none of the other professors actually never questioned him. Or the fact that he normally had a few students going into his office for a few hours every day period of course those particular students were young females who had no business going into the Dean of students for the department’s office period of course Max wasn't actually going to bring that up but he was alluding to it. The only female that he wanted in his office. Was the one who was sitting in the corner.he looked over to Indiana who was watching the whole thing trying not to laugh as she was continuing to fake read whatever she was reading. Max knew that the man was not gonna give up very easily. And of course then the veiled threats that his course was proba
