FAMILIARIZATIONLILYâS POVThe conversation with Mr. Damson had ended abruptly as Lily hurriedly hushed her goodbyes and went out to meet Fin.Lily and Fin had gone to a nearby restaurant, Fin had mentioned that it was to make her comfortable and she was happy to have another positive energy outside of Mr.Damsonâs daily scrutiny of anything and everything she had done.Breaking the ice after finding the right spot, Fin had asked with concern on his face. âAre you good? I suspect not. You sounded so desperate to get the job backâ âYes, I did. Something personal came up and I had no other option than to reach out. Getting a new job would take a long time too.â, Lily explained as briefly as she could.âWould you like to share?â Fin asked persistently to know why.âMy mama called me about my brotherâs health and I think it's wise to keep my job to help with whatever finances might ariseâ. Lily had unconsciously blurted out what exactly bothered her.âYour brother? What's wrong?ââWe sti
LILY Lily's alarm rings loud as she struggles to get out of bed. The life of being a student hasn't been easy on her but she can't give up. Mr Holland has done quite a lot for her by sponsoring her school fees. At least she wouldn't have to deal with school loans after graduation. "Bless that man", she said aloud. Walking into the bathroom, she took her brush from its holder and pressed the paste, scrubbing her teeth, she couldn't stop smiling. Graduation was in two weeks. She and Justin were finally graduating. Her grin continues to widen as her heart beats fast thinking about Justin. Lily has had a crush on her best friend, Justin since she resumed as a freshman. She had met Justin while she was in search of a decent club to join for better grades and their friendship blew up from there. Lily's alarm rings once again, guessing it's almost time to leave for school. A quick glimpse she notices she has a few minutes left before her bus arrives, so she proceeds to take a shower.
DAMSONWith a quick glimpse at his reflection in the mirror, he looked downright distraught and pathetic. The tears he had tried to hold back at the hospital were forcing their way through.Fatherless, distressed and burdened wasn't how he expected to end his day. The call from Molly informing him of his father suffering a heart attack had flipped his world over. Staring at the chandelier in his room while lying on his back, he recollected the happenings of the seemingly normal day he was having before his phone rang.***It was a new week, he stretched in a disgruntled manner as he pulled the covers off of him and turned over on his side to put off his blaring alarm. It was 4:30 a.m. on a Monday. One would think he would be used to this lifestyle by now, getting up quite early to complete his morning routine of a few exercises and general body care before heading out at exactly 7:00 a.m.His black sedan arrives at the headquarters of the family firm by 7:15 a.m. and he sits at his ta
DAMSONThe expansive mansion was a stunning sight to behold. It had towering columns, long winding staircases and fountains that lay vast across the lawn. Running up the stairs, he entered his fatherâs room and saw him lying on the sheets looking so calm. Mr Holland was a powerful man with a heavy build. Sharp jaws and piercing eyes which he passed on to his only son, Damson. Seeing him lying helplessly like that cut at his heart. He wasn't ready for this. Since he wasn't the closest person to his father, death was the last thing he wished him. He could hear the ambulance from a distance. His father would be moved to the familyâs hospital to get more hands-on deck in a bid to save his life.In the corner was Molly shaking and crying. He understood her plight. Mr Holland has been responsible for her and her familyâs upkeep since he was born. He didn't stay home for long so he wasn't familiar with either her or her kids. Their family doctor was on the phone as he awaited and received f
Lilyâs POV âHeâs gone? Mr.Holland is gone? No, it canât be.â She screamed as she held her Mama by her shoulders. The doctor coming out to drop the news sent every negative sensation to Lily's body. Damson had left immediately, she was pretty sure he couldnât handle breaking down with his reputation but she couldnât hold it in. Her mother was now taking over the consoling she should be doing that instead but she couldnât. Her mother understood what it meant to lose another figure in her life. She knew it wasnât going to be the same for her Mama too. She paused her tears, turning to her Mama and giving her a big hug. â Mama, it hurts. I miss him already. I canât think of how you feel, youâve known him for over 25 yearsâ. She had said to her mother. Molly breaks down in tears in her daughter's arms, unable to say anything. â Mama, donât cry I trust Mr. Holland, heâll watch over us allâ, Lily had said to console her mother. She hadn't accepted he was dead yet but she knew she ha
Lilyâs POVâ You have been selected for an interview, slated 8 days after you receive this mail.â Lily couldnât believe her eyes. She has been selected for the interview. At least a little excitement in her life would help her out of her dilemma. She would get back to them after the burial. She finally finds a boost to sleep since has wandered around her emotions for some hours, switching off the lights, it was bedtime for Lily. Her phone rings, quite early in the morning, grumbling she picks up her phone, it is her mama. â Hello Lilyâ, there was no nickname this time, Lily it must have been serious.â Hello Mama, is everything okay?â She has asked.âEverything is fine, you might just have to clear your schedule todayâ Her mama had said.âWhy whatâs with the urgency? I have plans to meet Justin todayââToday is the will reading and the lawyer has requested we all be there including you.â Her mama responded.âMe? What do I have to do with it? Mamaâ, Lily had responded confusedâ You
DAMSON âĒDon't cry because it's over, smile because it happened. âĒWe are reminded how short life really is, and how we are just passing through. âĒWhat we have once enjoyed deeply we can never lose. The seconds were turning into minutes, the minutes into hours and the hours into days. He groaned as he lifted himself from the chair he had previously been sitting on to make himself a cup of tea. He has been trying to come up with some quotes for his tribute but they all sounded shallow to him. He was running out of time and he still couldn't come up with anything. His eyebags were enough indication that he was not getting enough sleep and it was showing in his level of productivity. He did not think that some mere string of words could properly convey the love he had for his father and how much he missed him but turned out not everyone thought so. He tried to look for inspiration from the tributes of others but it didn't help a bit. All he could think of was how most of them loo

He trusted Fin with his office affairs which made it easy for him to carry out his duties whenever he was not opportune to be in the office.âAn interview? not at his firmâ he mused. If Lily got a job elsewhere, how else was he supposed to fulfil his fatherâs wish of giving her a job at the firm? On the other hand, though, he was happy he wouldn't have to deal with that as he would have a valid alibi. âHopefully, she gets the job, '' he prayed. The drive to Finâs apartment was short as his sh

DAMSONHe could hear his phone ring in the room as he was taking his evening bath. He sunk deeper into the warm hot tub as he needed to relieve some tension off his shoulders and he could not be bothered by a ringing phone. Whoever it was would have to wait till he was chanced to get it. He caught himself dozing off and reluctantly pulled himself up and stepped out of the tub, he reached for his towel and dabbed his body with it. After he ensured that he was dry, he went into his room and put on a lightweight material tee and shorts as he was going down to have dinner next. He picked up his phone from the table and saw the missed call was from Maggie. He assumed she was calling him for dinner but on further thought, she never called him so why would she start now? He put the phone in his pocket as he thought he would see her downstairs at dinner. Settling at the table, the chef came and dished out his meal. It was a three-course meal but he wasn't feeling too hungry so he instructed
âArrghh, can I get a breakâ, Lily says as her phone rings. She needed a break, looking at the screen it was Mama, at least she could complain to her.âHello mama,â Lily greeted her mum, but the grave silence just revealed that something was wrong.âMa, are you okay? Should I come over there?ââLily, your brother is sick. Philip is sick, I donât think itâs good. The doctor said he would run some tests to find out what exactly is wrongââMama, Iâm coming overâ. Lily replied with a scared voice.âYou have work tomorrow, donât you?â Her mama asked.Lily couldnât mention that Mr Damson had asked her to leave and that she might have potentially left her job.âYes, mama. Is he good Phillip? Can we FaceTime? Iâm still worried.ââOh, yes we can, heâs asleep now, once heâs awake Iâll let you know.ââAlright, ma.âThe call ends and puts Lily in confusion and jeopardy of not understanding what to do. She could not let Mama worry about her job, she also could not let her know everything that had h
LILYâs P.O.V The JobHe hasnât even checked my credentials and heâs saying he doesnât think I fit in here. Rude is an understatement in describing him. Lily never saw him coming. Mr.Holland was a different breed, the difference was so clear.Unable to accept defeat. She regains her courage and decides to tackle Mr. Damon as she turns back into his office.âWhy are you still here?â he asked as soon as he saw her.âI was prepared for an interview and Iâm pretty much sure Iâm capable of proving myself. We can start the interview now, Sir.â She said to him.A little look of shock displayed on his face which he wiped away as soon as possible.âOkay, can I see your credentials?â âHere they areâ, she presented them to him.Scrolling through, his face was still with no reaction, how then was she supposed to know what he was thinking? Her palms got sweaty as she expected a response from him.He finally spoke, âIâm surprised you have a pretty good grade I must giv
Lilyâs POV THE MEETING â Come with your credentials to the company tomorrow, unfailinglyâ the text had read. There was no time to do an investigation of who sent the text. She knew it had to be someone from the company and her biggest suspect was Damson. Anyway, that shouldnât be her concern now, she should be focused on ensuring her credentials were intact and well put together. She had continually worked on her already perfect CV overnight and now it was hitting mid-day.She should sleep but Lily had to continue her interview practice questions. She wanted to get the âShe is qualified to work hereâ regardless of whatever the wish had already guaranteed her the job.She was finally done, and she decided to take a much-needed sleep to help out with the dark circles that were already forming in her eyes. ***It was already the meet-up morning and her alarm had woken her up, rolling off her bed, another habit she had gotten from bei
DAMSON Work was lagging. Damson was feeling the effects of not having a secretary in his office. He couldn't seem to find where anything was filed. The other secretary who tried to fill in for her pending the time he found another competent one kept on getting on his nerves. âHas he always been this irritable or was she just plain dumb?â he had caught himself musing on several occasions. He needed to find a new competent secretary and fast at that. A part of him thought Lily would be the perfect fit but the other part of him vehemently declined. He didn't want someone who had any sort of familiarity with him. It would breed contempt and he couldn't allow that. Besides, women weren't his cup of tea any longer. Every one of them he became familiar with always gave him a reason to regret meeting them. Fin had been advising him to extend the opportunity to her since Damson had told him about her going for an interview and all instead of stressing himself trying to get someone e
LILYâs POV A MessAnother sunny day, the summer is currently hitting hard. There was no plan for Lily today as she had decided to take a needed one-day break following the funeral, job interview and the will. Rolling off the bed like a little child, Lily finally decides to check her phone lazily. She remembers she got a beep and was too tired to check whatever was up.âLetâs check my textsâ, she had muttered to herself a habit she had formed over time since she stayed alone. Scrolling through her text, an unknown number draws her attention.âHello Lily, I know you donât know me but I think you should take up Mr.Hollandâs offer. I think the enterprise would be the best for you to achieve whatever dreams you have as a business administrator. Iâm looking forward to seeing you. Damson needs you. From FinâWho was Fin? was what ran through Lilyâs mind. Damson needs her for what? Confusion runs through her. Lily cannot deny that working at the company would do mo
