Kyoko wiped the back of her hand across her eyes trying to keep the tears from blurring her vision, but the constant flow wouldn’t stop. It’d been a year since the maiden shrine had been destroyed. It had taken that long to make herself come back to the spot where it had all happened.

Now she sat, leaning back against the pile of rubble that once linked this world to the past. She held on to the memories like a lifeline, never wanting to forget them again. She’d fought so hard to regain all of her memories… only to lose something even more precious.

The horrible wound to her shoulder was now gone thanks to the healing power deep inside her. She gave a pain-filled smile, thinking about her friends. They’d watched over her for the weeks she had remained in what seemed to be a coma after she’d passed out at the shrine. They’d all taken turns watching over her, talking to her, trying to bring her back. Somehow, it had worked.
