The weekend passed by quickly, and it was now Monday, which in Leigh’s parlance meant it was English time when she and Regina shared classes.
She dreaded attending the class. In truth, she dreaded coming back to school, but she trusted Rocky. He told her that he would fix the mess he created.
She got out of Kade’s car, her head turning, scanning the crowd. It would have been better if Rocky was the one who sent her to the University, but he had been MIA since their make-up lunch.
She did not know where he went and only left her in the care of a live-in caretaker.
She was surprised when she woke up the morning after their make-up lunch, Rocky was not around. He had been
Regina’s cutting remark broke through Leigh’s preoccupation, surprised at what she had done. Why is she allowing Adam Fowler to hold her hand? She pulled back, not wanting Adam to get the wrong idea.He could be a great friend - nothing more.Adam, on the other hand, looks frustrated. Leigh’s action is a clear indication of rejection. He smiled tightly at Leigh to assure her he was not angry, but anyone could feel his disappointment. They both look the other way betraying the awkwardness of the situation. But Regina was not done with them. She walked in their direction, hips sashaying like she wanted people to admire her rounded hips before she stopped in the narrow space between Leigh and Adam’s chairs. She clucked, head turning from side to side in an obvious show of disapproval.“What could the lover boy outside think when he sees this?” She commented sweetly, pertai
“I told you to watch out for Leigh.” Rocky was in a fit of jealousy when he learned Leigh is dating Adam Fowler.“What’s with the fuss? You are dating Regina. Can’t Leigh do the same and date, other men?” Kade was quick to point out the issue of fair play, noting his best friend’s deepening scowl.“That's different, and you know it, Kade.”“I do, but Leigh and the other students of Baybridge University didn’t.” Kade countered, all to Rocky’s dismay. He scrubbed his face forcefully with his hands, clearly disappointed at the turn of events. It was like all hell breaks loose, and he hated every bit of it. “I sent you to guard her and foil attempts of any man, especially Adam Fowle, to get near her. But what did you do? Not only did you get her a date with Fowler, but you are going on a double dat
Rocky’s hawk-eyed gaze zeroed in on Leigh the minute she walked inside the hotel, frowning in distaste when he recognized the man accompanying her.He wanted to go berserk when he remembered the last conversation he had had with his best friend Kade.“I need your black card.” Kade laid out his palm, waiting for Rocky to drop the exclusive card into his hands.“Does Leigh need to buy a gown?” Rocky asked, whipping his wallet to get his card. He knew Leigh had not been using her bank ATMs and credit cards since they moved to Baybridge - part of her being independent and so, he was willing to pay for all her purchases for the party. He dropped the
Just when she was about to leave the dance floor, the music changed its tempo. The once gentle was replaced by an upbeat tune. The bodies around her started to sway and dance wildly, trapping her.Leigh’s temper flared. She squeezed herself out of the crowded dance floor. Unaware of her personal issues, the dancers continued hopping, stretching, and waving their arms without caring about whoever they hit.Leigh's eyes became blurry. The strobe lights and the alcohol she consumed slowly worked on their effect on her.Somewhere along the way, she lost Adam but did not bother to go back for him. She felt stifled. Everything around her is choking her. Her feet carried her out of the ballroom into the massive hallway. She walked while fanning herself with her hands. She did not think that she could be bold as she did back there on the dance floor. She was not like that. She had never
Rocky was in a foul mood when he got back to the ballroom. “Have you seen Leigh? Adam Fowler had been looking for his date, but could not find her. He was worried. Seeing Adam Fowler aggravated Rocky’s foul mood. A niggling suspicion arose that the basketball captain had something to do with Leigh changing her mind about him. He looked sharply at Adam who looked good in the suit Kade bought with his money and seethed inside. “Am I her keeper? You are her date, you should know where she is.”Noting the scowl on Rocky’s face, Adam turned to leave and started scouring the crowded place for Leigh while Rocky was left on the empty table, not even the least bit concerned that Regina and her friend were nowhere around.A waiter passed by bearing a tray laden with cocktail drinks. He took two and finished them off one after the other. A few moments later, Regina Clark came back. He saw Rocky being liberal on his drinks. She decided to pour whiskey into his glass. “Where did you g
INSIDE THE CAR. “It’s hot,” Rocky growled. He took off his dress shirt, crumpled it, and threw it to the floor. As if that was not enough, he kicked off his shoes, leaving his black dress socks on.He was about to unbuckle his belt when he heard Arthur, his head bodyguard, order the driver. “I think he was drugged. Drive to the nearest convenience store. We need to hydrate him.” The driver hit on the gas right away, screeching to a halt when they reached a 7-11 store. One bodyguard walked out and returned with bottled water. “Sir, drink,” Arthur commanded.Rocky opened one eye and took a long swig, but Arthur yanked the bottle away from him. Its contents sloshed into Rocky’s body accidentally, but Rocky, in his semi-unconscious state, was unaware. “Don’t drink too fast. Drink slowly.” Arthur gently instructed. “He was sweating profusely.” The other bodyguard said. “I think we need to get him to the hospital.” “No! Where’s Leigh?” Rocky crawled to the gap between the b
It was still dark when Rocky woke up from his sleep. This is the first time he felt content and at peace since they moved to Bay Bridge. He missed the feeling. White arms wrapped around his neck as he lay on his back, causing him to smile. This feeling of closeness felt right. Their bodies’ responses to each other have always been this explosive. It never changed. Even as the months passed. He wrapped his arms around Leigh’s body and drew her close to his chest. His heart was beating fast. A few moments later, he carefully rolled Leigh to the side so he could get up. He does not want Leigh to wake up and see him in her bed. A feeling of guilt rushed up to him. He broke his promise. He made love to her. And what is worse? He took advantage of her drunken state to do it. He pulled on his shirt and pants, checked the cabinets for Leigh’s nightgown, and went back to bed to carefully change her. Leigh was a deadweight when she was asleep, especially since she was so drunk la
Sam ran out of Leigh’s room. She was hurrying back to her room to get her hands on her phone and call Rocky ASAP.Though Leigh had agreed to come out of the shadows and be the real Leigh Michaels, she could not persuade her best friend from leaving for Somerset. “She’s going home.” She told Rocky over the phone.“Stall her. Don’t let her leave my house. I am a few blocks away.” “Where have you been, Rocky?” Sam could not help but ask. She is becoming quite exasperated with the pair with their cat-and-mouse game. “I think you better stop hiding.” “I am not hiding.” Rocky’s abrupt reply came through the phone. “So what are you doing?” Sam demanded. “Err…”“What?” “I am trying to avoid temptation. Leigh is one big temptation.” Rocky admitted in a barely inaudible voice. Sam laughed. “You are a fool.” Sam breathed on the other line. Silence. There was tension after that. Sam realized that she said something she shouldn’t and caught her tongue. She knew what would come next
