Chapter 3
The SUV stopped in front of Alexa, and she was filled with joy. Yay! She hurriedly grabbed her things, even though she wasn’t sure she’d be able to get in. She’d offer the driver anything just to get a ride: money, her dead signal smartphone, but not her virginity. But what if that's what the man wanted? She swallowed nervously, and the excitement to catch a ride seemed to fade. What if the driver or anyone else in the car would assault her? She froze, staring at the vehicle’s tires, deep in thought. She didn’t even notice that the window of the AM SUV had rolled down because of her conflicted thinking about whether or not she should get on. The luxury car wasn’t headed to the hacienda. It had only stopped because of her continuous waving. She had almost jumped earlier just to get attention. “You’re just gonna stand there like an idiot, or are you getting in?” the man asked gruffly, causing Alexa to snap her attention toward him immediately. Her jaw dropped when she saw who was speaking. What the hell? Aslan was the owner of the car, a car worth more than her life. She couldn’t be mistaken. She knew this greedy, wicked man even after so many years. No other man had that face, with its prominent jawline, sharp nose, and deep, dark eyelashes. Not to mention how kissable his thin, pouting lips were. Aslan was half Turkish. His eyes were a deep brown. He had been tall since the day he arrived at their place. His hair had been so long then, as if scissors or razors weren’t a thing in his province. He had a very brooding, intimidating personality, and no one made him smile easily—except for his mother. He was way beyond suitable for the role of a male lead in a drama series or even a movie. When you say Aslan, it definitely means godlike charm and gorgeousness. At least, if you didn’t consider the fact that he was a greedy thief who had stolen everything from her, even after being adopted and cared for. “Alexa!” He snapped her out of her thoughts, and she immediately ran to the back of the car, the trunk lifting automatically. She quickly threw her bags inside. She stood there, staring at the face of a Judas. She was filled with irritation when she realized that her adopted brother, the "Herod," wouldn’t let her down. He seemed different now. Before, Aslan, the one she knew, would take care of her even if she snapped at him. Now, he didn’t even care if her uterus fell out while she struggled to put her things in the back of his car. She marched to the passenger's side and yanked the door open. She froze when she saw the man sitting there, staring at the windshield with the wipers moving. Shit. Aslan had changed so much. He was now incredibly muscular, and his hair had grown a bit longer, completely different from the crew cut he used to have. He only got his hair trimmed when his mom took him to the town barber. Since then, the two of them had regularly gone out for haircuts. Or, was it really a "cut"? Now she realized that his hair wasn’t straight at all—it was curly. He looked at her, raising his thick eyebrows, and Alexa was caught off guard, swallowing nervously. "Are you just gonna stand there like an idiot, Alexa?" he asked sharply. "Aren’t you soaked?" His insulting words immediately snapped her out of her thoughts. The jerk. He acted like he was someone important, but he was a scammer. He had asked her twice if she was stupid. He should ask his teachers if she was stupid, because she had been the valedictorian since elementary school and was about to graduate summa cum laude in college. She immediately hopped in and slammed the door. She knew he was looking at her, so she threw him a nasty look. Without a word, he started the car, moving it so smoothly that she could barely hear it. It was so sleek and quiet, so classy. He glanced at her again and gave her a once-over, but she crossed her arms over her chest. "You're soaking wet. Don’t you have any clothes?" Aslan asked seriously, but Alexa forced her anger to show through her words. Her hatred for him was still there, and it would only fade once he returned everything he had stolen from the only inheritance she had left. "You think I’m going to change clothes in front of you? What, are you crazy?" she retorted. "Then hello, pneumonia," he replied sarcastically, shaking his head in a way that made her feel nauseous. That's when she realized that it wasn't just the two of them in the car, so she immediately looked at the rearview mirror. Alexa met a pair of light brown eyes and auburn hair. Those eyes were staring directly at her. The woman's lips were full and heart-shaped, painted with bright red lipstick. This was the type of woman who looked stunning with makeup. Who was she? How sweet that she still joined Aslan despite the storm. But really, who wouldn’t want to be with him? Look at this man—he's solid, and his wallet is even thicker. Annoyed, Alexa crossed her arms and didn't bother trying to figure out who the woman was, even though she seemed somewhat familiar. She didn’t care about anyone else. "Why can’t you listen to your brother, Alexa?" the woman in the backseat asked. She looked back at her and shot her a glare. "Mind your own business. I don’t even know you. And by the way, I don’t have a brother. Who are you?" "Alexa!" Aslan's voice was stern, but she threw him a nasty look in response. "Don’t 'Alexa' me! You picked me up with an intruder in the back of your car. Did you explain to her that she’s not allowed to boss me around? Did I say bring your mother along?" she snapped back. "She’s not my mother," the woman in the backseat responded firmly, but Alexa just smirked. "Sorry. You look like a mother," she retorted, giving the woman an exaggerated eye-roll. Aslan scratched the corner of his mouth, clearly trying to hide his amusement. He didn’t know if his lip was actually itching or if he was pretending to be bothered. If he dared scold her in front of this woman, Alexa was ready to give him a taste of her sharp tongue. "You have no manners," the woman angrily said. "Aslan!" she snapped at the young man driving. "Enough, Donna. Let her be if she wants to get sick or do whatever she wants with her life," he replied, and Alexa relaxed in her seat. The woman didn’t say anything more but kept glaring at her through the rearview mirror. Maybe she didn’t have a place to stay, so even though it was storming, she was still with her adopted son. After a while, Alexa felt the chill from the air conditioning. The cold air was seeping into her skin because her clothes were still soaked. She hugged herself. Her sweater was useless against the heavy rain from earlier. Even her underwear was wet. "Stop the car. I’ll get some clothes," she ordered the man after nearly thirty minutes. "It’s not advisable to stop here. The wind and rain are getting stronger, Alexa. Something might fly and tear you apart," he responded. "Do you want me to catch pneumonia?" she asked irritably, and he immediately glanced at her, angry but silent. "Wear my jacket," he said, referring to his huge jacket that, if she wore it, would probably reach the floor. She wasn’t that tall. Beauty was the gift she had, not height. "I don’t want to!" she snapped, and she saw him sigh deeply. He scratched his eyebrow, then took off his jacket while still driving. He followed it by removing his white T-shirt. She blinked. Bread rolls. There were bread rolls even in the middle of the storm, and not just four, but six, probably. "Here, wear this. And if you act up again, I’ll take you back to your car," he said calmly but with a touch of anger. He put his jacket back on, and Alexa, who had been hesitating to take off her wet clothes, finally decided to wear Aslan's T-shirt. But then, she froze and sniffed it while scrunching her nose. Her eyes shifted sideways to check if he was looking, and she found that he was already glancing at her. "Does it smell like dirt?" she asked. "Does it?" he replied. She didn’t answer. It didn’t smell like dirt. It smelled like expensive cologne, so she just put it on, since she had no choice. She was only wearing a bra. The T-shirt swallowed her whole. It reached almost to her knees, so she removed her pants while sitting down. "Babe, when is Marishka giving birth?" The woman behind her asked, a question Alexa didn’t want to hear but her voice, full of affectation, just slipped into her ears. In her peripheral vision, Alexa saw the woman hugging Aslan’s neck. Well, 'sana all'. "I'm not sure yet, but probably after the coming storm. I hope so, Donna," Aslan replied. Haha, Donna! She laughed inwardly. The woman called Aslan "babe," but Aslan called her "Donna." She was just an attention-seeker, trying to make a scene. She discreetly removed her bra under the oversized T-shirt and crossed her arms over her chest. She didn’t like the vibe from the woman acting like a mother. She glanced at her, and their eyes met. "What?" she asked, raising an eyebrow. "You're still a virgin, but you're taking off your clothes. Don’t act innocent, it doesn’t fit your looks," the woman jabbered, obviously jealous, but Alexa just smiled at her. That was one thing she was sure of: she was still a virgin, and she was grateful she didn’t give herself to that jerk Maxus. "Your looks scream anything but virgin!" Alexa rolled her eyes at her. "And next time, I don’t want to see your face anywhere on my hacienda!" "You're so rude!" the woman snapped. "Will you both damn stop fighting?! I’ll drop you both off if you don’t shut up!" Aslan shouted at them angrily. "You're so full of yourself, acting like you’ve just thought of going home." "You don’t care. You're just a busybody!" Alexa shot back. "You don’t know anything but waiting for money. You’re such a spoiled brat who knows nothing but asking for an allowance!" Donna spat. "Donna!" Aslan yelled at his girlfriend, and Alexa could feel her anger rising. "Did you say that?" She turned to Aslan because there’s no way the woman would say that without him telling her something about Alexa. "Said what?" Aslan asked, looking confused. Alexa's eyes were sharp, staring right at him. She chose not to respond, planning to confront him when they got home. Donna probably thought she was stepping onto the hacienda. Well, no, this attention-seeking trash wasn’t welcome there.Chapter 4Alexa spent the remaining hour of the journey home to the hacienda sleeping. She didn’t want to keep arguing with a malnourished leech. Isn’t that what she should call a woman like the one with Aslan? She was so clingy to the man, as if she was fighting to claim him.Ewww!Who wouldn’t latch onto a man who owned an Aston Martin, a car that was probably worth millions just by the bumper? And this Aston Martin was supposed to be hers, not this dirty, old, clingy rag’s."Alexa!" A loud shout pulled her from her deep sleep, but she suddenly felt dizzy when her forehead bumped against something hard. She held her forehead, seeing stars."Jesus!" Aslan exclaimed, which made her blink even though she was squinting. He too was holding his forehead, with one eye squinted. They had collided. Half of his body was inside the passenger side, waking her up."Did I tell you to get closer to me? This is such a disaster," she snapped at him, but he didn’t mind."Hurry up! I’m not Superman, I
Chapter 4.1Aslan had been standing with his arms crossed in front of the car for a long time. The back section was already open. Alexa's luggage was on display, but it was outshone by the beautiful woman he had been staring at since earlier. What does he call this hard shaft inside his pants? Boner. Yes. He'd had it since he glanced at those round, firm mounds, tightly pressing against her wet shirt. It was probably wrong to be with that woman. He couldn't resist, though, and stood by his word that it was none of his business.Even though Donna had been relentlessly playing with his manhood earlier, it softened when it was inside the woman's warm mouth. His mind was preoccupied with a woman in the middle of the street, with a storm raging, and no vehicle to take her.How could he calm down like that? He remembered Geron and Caroline.Fuck.He had thought that his duty towards their daughter had ended when Alexa chose to part ways with him. But it wasn't over yet.He remembered the co
Chapter 4.2Alexa couldn’t hear anything inside the house. Not even the clatter of the tin roofs outside reached her ears. The generator was completely silent, thanks to its silencer. As noisy as the roofs were outside, with the pouring rain and howling wind, the quiet inside her room was deafening. Thanks to the power of technology, the mansion’s lighting was now brighter and more efficient compared before. The Escobar estate had indeed undergone significant changes under Aslan's management. That thought occupied her mind as she stood by the window of her room, staring at a brightly lit building in a certain distance.Because the mansion stood on elevated ground, she had a clear view of the entire Hacienda Escobar. This estate had belonged to her father’s family for generations, yet it puzzled her why, according to her late mother’s last will, everything now belonged to Aslan. Her chest tightened. She felt a pang in her heart. Jealousy began to creep into her system once more. Why? W
Chapter 5Aslan turned away, his shoulders slumped. He couldn't look at the people in the horse stable, his eyes filled with tears.Marishka closed her eyes, holding the baby boy in her hands. Why? Why did the ones she bore always die? Her arms were covered in blood. She had no upper garment, and her chest was still heaving from the effort of reviving her horse.Even as the metal sheets outside clattered in the storm, she ventured into it, ignoring the danger on the road. She saw metal sheets flying, wood, and other debris, but her Jeep Wrangler fought against the storm’s power. And now, Marishka would just die in his hands? Why? Maybe she wasn’t meant to be a veterinarian. Perhaps it wasn't in her nature. She froze mid-step when the horse behind her suddenly made noise, and she quickly turned around."He’s alive!" Tibor exclaimed, soaked but undeterred. There were five of them there, and all the workers cried out in joy.She smiled immediately and gently set the young horse down. She
Chapter 6Aslan let out a deep sigh as Alexa recklessly sped up his car down the driveway, exiting the garage. He licked his lips and shut his eyes at the sight of the vehicle driving away.It was his car, but he didn’t have the courage to say no. He had the power to stop her, but he never had the will.Fuck.She was still the same Alexa from years ago. No one could make her back down. He kept trying, but she was always defiant and unyielding.Earlier, he had taken a different route home. His shirt was slung over his shoulder, and though he hadn't had proper sleep, he froze when he saw Alexa hitting Donna with a broom.Jesus.He wanted to stop her and scold her, but he just ended up standing there, unable to approach and tell her to quit hitting Donna. He didn’t like the tension brewing between the two, but there was nothing he could do when both of them were so stubborn. The car finally exited through the gate and archway. It looked so small in his eyes, yet he kept staring."She sti
Chapter 7It felt like Alexa's heart was about to leap from her chest. Her eyes widened in shock as she stepped back, staring at the snake. Even if her veins were to burst, she knew she wouldn't be heard because the mausoleum was at the far end.In a hurry, she climbed the tomb, nearly slipping along the way. She squeezed herself toward the end, where it crept inward. She sat, hugging her legs to her chest. She couldn't move from near the door because of the slippery marble."Go away!" she shouted, as if the snake would understand, "Shoo!" she said, but her eyes and ears were wide open when she heard the sound of a motorcycle outside."Aslan!" Alexa screamed, even though she wasn't sure if it was actually Aslan. She didn't even know why she was shouting that name. Ever since she was a child and found herself in trouble, that was the name she always cried out. Before long, she saw it approaching, which made her panic."Snake! Snake!" she yelled, pointing at the snake that suddenly coil
Chapter 8He said she was going to sleep, but he couldn’t. How could he sleep knowing that the cemetery for the Escobars was flooded? There were really snakes there, but the place was clean. It was probably just one of them that climbed up because of the flood in the creek. He wanted to laugh at Alexa's expression earlier, but he also felt nervous because if she got bitten, she might be in danger. Rufo probably hoped that since the area around the mausoleums was clean, no snake would dare approach. While he was driving, he could still feel the weight of Alexa on his arms. She was no longer that thin girl he used to carry whenever she fell and cried. He got off the motorcycle when he saw the Miranda house. Donna was already there, directing the house helpers who were cleaning."And you showed your ass, asshole!" she immediately said to him, her mood clearly heated."I'm going to the animal clinic, are you coming or not?" he quickly asked, not bothering to get off."And what?" She cross
Chapter 9Alexa dragged her feet towards the other side of the second floor. Thankfully, the house was quite modern now. If it still looked like those in the photos from the antique albums she used to see, she would have been too afraid to explore. She might have even thought the mansion was a haunted house. She glanced around, observing the changes in the seven years since she last came home. She had nothing to do, and with no signal, she couldn’t chat with her friends in Manila. She was getting bored. She had been chatting with the household staff earlier, but she got tired of it and fell asleep. When she woke up and went upstairs, her sleepiness had disappeared. She grabbed some old books from the glass cabinet and started reading children’s books. These had been hers when she was little, probably from when she was about five years old because she remembered seeing them before she even had a clear memory. She saw the third living room. The rooms were still the same, but the doors h
Chapter 41"Even just this once, Ma, think about yourself," Aslan said with a sigh as he watched his mother cough every now and then. She had gone to the bathroom several times to spit, and even though she wasn’t saying anything, he knew something wasn’t right."What did the doctor say about your illness?" he asked, confused. He didn’t even know if she was receiving any proper treatment. And whether he admitted it or not, it made a difference when a private doctor attended to a patient with a serious condition."I have medicine from the center. Now that we're here in Escobar, I'll register here to get free medicine again.""But you need rest," Aslan insisted to his mother. "Why do you still need to help Balbon and his team? There are already three of them working construction. Don’t tell me they’re making you feel obligated.""I need to help so we can build a house and buy a small plot of land in Aklan."He shook his head, looking away in frustration. Buying land and building a house—
Chapter 40Aslan couldn't find the two friends at the hotel when he arrived. He was on a motorcycle to get there faster. Now, he was clearly impatient, unsure of where to go next. He stood with his arms crossed near the entrance of the hotel, thinking about his next destination. He pursed his lips as he observed the passersby. Maybe they went to the church, but the receptionist had told him that the two had left a while ago, almost an hour ago.He stood there, arms crossed, but his face immediately soured when he saw Donna's motorcycle. She quickly parked in the parking space and angrily got off."You, idiot!" she immediately shouted, making him scratch his head. Here she goes again, trying hard to entertain herself."Donna, come on," he said lazily."Don't 'Donna' me! You're about to marry a lunatic, huh?!" she yelled at him, her voice loud and piercing. His temper flared up again, and he thought he might strangle her if he didn't control himself."Who told you that?" he answered cal
Chapter 39Aslan’s eyebrows furrowed when he saw Lorna at the stairs."Alexa?" he asked the maid, "Is she still asleep?"His head throbbed from the hangover. He really hated drinking. Why did he even think about drinking just because of his mom?"She's awake already, sir.""Tell her we'll have breakfast together," he said, descending the stairs as his head ached."Well, the señorito can leave."He immediately stopped in his tracks, almost snapping his neck from the sudden turn of his head."What do you mean, leave? Give me my key! She can't come back to Manila!" he angrily said."N-No, señorito. You're mistaken. Leave, as in going to town. She took her car."He breathed a sigh of relief, feeling like he almost fell down the stairs. Damn Lorna, she nearly scared him. He swore that no shadow of Alexa would escape him now. He’s a very changed man now. He doesn’t let go anymore. He grips."Next time, watch your words, Lorna," he said irritably."Y-Yes, señorito. My apologies. I meant she
Chapter 38WHAT THE FREAK? Alexa’s eyes widened as she quickly turned her gaze toward Aslan when he suddenly got off of her and staggered. He didn’t even make it to wherever he was heading because he slammed into the wall. "Aslan!" She screamed and immediately sat up. She quickly adjusted her clothes since one of her breasts was exposed. Shameless. Even her panties seemed to have shifted, so she fixed those too. This guy was so annoying. He was able to handle her while Maxus couldn’t. Totally unfair. Even though her cheeks were flushed, she forced herself to approach Aslan. He was leaning against the wall, looking like he might vomit, so she quickly helped him. "Are you okay? You're drunk, but you only had three bottles," she said, not mocking him in that situation. "I'm not a drunk," he replied, almost making her laugh. Maxus, on the other hand, would stay out drinking until morning. When she scolded him for it, he would get mad, saying he was already exhausted from work and she was
Chapter 37Alexa peeked from behind the wall, watching Aslan drink alcohol. She couldn't sleep because his offer kept bothering her, giving her a massive headache. She had asked her friend in Manila, Bea, if she should accept it. They had just finished chatting about everything, and Bea knew her current situation.Bea had asked why she was having such a hard time deciding. It should be easy to say no, she said. Why was Alexa so affected? Why, indeed?Bea also mentioned she wanted to see Aslan. She even suggested Alexa take a picture of him. Now, here she was, peeking from behind the wall but already distracted. Aslan was drinking alcohol, his food paired with roasted lechon."Must be nice if lechon was just your snack," she thought. Her phone vibrated, so she quickly checked the chat."I'm waiting here, Alex. I want to see your brotherhood," Bea said, prompting her to prepare her camera.Alexa made sure the flash was turned off. Pretending to use her phone, she stepped out from behind
Chapter 36Aslan checked the hotel to see if it was already safe for Alexa to meet Janice. He noticed Maxus’s car parked outside, and the man stepping out while pulling his luggage. So the guy didn’t leave yesterday after all. He really stood his ground. Well, at least now the stubborn idiot is finally leaving. He got out of his car as Maxus forcefully tossed his bag into the backseat of his vehicle.Aslan just stared at Maxus as the man irritably placed his hands on his hips and arrogantly kicked the car's wheel.Maxus turned in his direction, and Aslan, hands in his pockets, just continued to look at him."You…" Maxus growled when he recognized him."What?" Aslan raised a brow. "Watch your mouth and watch your step. This is my hotel, and this is my parking lot. I’m no lawyer, but I know my rights."The corner of his lips twitched into a mocking smirk."I'm not a good enemy to have, farmer," Maxus sneered at him."Neither am I," Aslan replied."You're claiming what’s mine. I saw you
Chapter 35Alexa felt like Aslan was angry with her because he silently got out of the car, carrying the papers from Engineer Zuria. What could be in those papers that had him so engrossed? He hadn’t taken his eyes off them since he received them.“Are you mad?” she asked, unable to hold back.He shook his head at her. “Next time, Maxus will be down for the count if he does that again.”Gosh.“I didn’t like that,” she said quickly, trying to defend herself. But why was she even explaining? She didn’t owe him any explanation; they weren’t even a thing. She was just being overly defensive. She just didn’t want him to think that even though she and Maxus had broken up, she was still cozying up to him like that.“I know. I saw it. I’m thinking about something else.”Donna? He walked straight into the house without saying another word.“Oh, you’re back. Have some snacks,” Mang Kiko greeted with a smile as they entered through the door.“Yes, Mang Kiko. I’d like that,” she said, realizing s
Chapter 34Aslan stared at the paper in his hand, his eyes fixed on the names written on it. It was a list of JSSEC personnel. He had just confirmed that his mother was really one of them. He sat inside the car after they had picked up Janice and her child from the neighboring town. He was parked in front of the hotel, patiently waiting for the young woman.Apparently, this was the only hotel with available rooms out of the three hotels owned by the Escobars. He wasn’t sure if he should have Balbon and the others evicted because of what Zuria had told him—that they had nowhere else to go, which included his mother.Aslan's anger and sense of compassion were clashing. He was torn and utterly confused. His head throbbed with the weight of it all. It felt as if he wanted to retaliate against those who had hurt him and made his life miserable. He sighed and slammed the papers on the dashboard. He checked his wristwatch and looked at the hotel entrance. There was still no sign of Alexa. He
Chapter 33Alexa couldn’t understand Aslan’s connection to her at that moment. As she stared at his face, deep sadness and anger were evident in his eyes.Who could he have seen? And why couldn’t she make him talk? By the look on his handsome face, those people must have caused him immense pain. His eyes were almost brimming with tears, leaving her confused."Sir Aslan, everything is ready. The count is complete and accurate," someone reported. He nodded and let go of her hand. She subtly adjusted the chair he had pulled closer for her earlier. It was as if he had become preoccupied with her hand, which he was gently massaging earlier. She was thankful he didn’t break her hand, considering his earlier cold demeanor that had now turned into sadness. He signed something. "Deposit thirty percent into the usual account," he instructed, making her blink in surprise. It was hers, she knew. She felt a pang of embarrassment."The beneficiary, sir?" the woman asked, to which he nodded in respo
