Chapter 6

Aslan let out a deep sigh as Alexa recklessly sped up his car down the driveway, exiting the garage.

He licked his lips and shut his eyes at the sight of the vehicle driving away.

It was his car, but he didn’t have the courage to say no. He had the power to stop her, but he never had the will.

Fuck.

She was still the same Alexa from years ago. No one could make her back down. He kept trying, but she was always defiant and unyielding.

Earlier, he had taken a different route home. His shirt was slung over his shoulder, and though he hadn't had proper sleep, he froze when he saw Alexa hitting Donna with a broom.

Jesus.

He wanted to stop her and scold her, but he just ended up standing there, unable to approach and tell her to quit hitting Donna.

He didn’t like the tension brewing between the two, but there was nothing he could do when both of them were so stubborn.

The car finally exited through the gate and archway. It looked so small in his eyes, yet he kept staring.

Chapter 7It felt like Alexa's heart was about to leap from her chest. Her eyes widened in shock as she stepped back, staring at the snake. Even if her veins were to burst, she knew she wouldn't be heard because the mausoleum was at the far end.In a hurry, she climbed the tomb, nearly slipping along the way. She squeezed herself toward the end, where it crept inward. She sat, hugging her legs to her chest. She couldn't move from near the door because of the slippery marble."Go away!" she shouted, as if the snake would understand, "Shoo!" she said, but her eyes and ears were wide open when she heard the sound of a motorcycle outside."Aslan!" Alexa screamed, even though she wasn't sure if it was actually Aslan. She didn't even know why she was shouting that name. Ever since she was a child and found herself in trouble, that was the name she always cried out. Before long, she saw it approaching, which made her panic."Snake! Snake!" she yelled, pointing at the snake that suddenly coil

Chapter 8He said she was going to sleep, but he couldn’t. How could he sleep knowing that the cemetery for the Escobars was flooded? There were really snakes there, but the place was clean. It was probably just one of them that climbed up because of the flood in the creek. He wanted to laugh at Alexa's expression earlier, but he also felt nervous because if she got bitten, she might be in danger. Rufo probably hoped that since the area around the mausoleums was clean, no snake would dare approach. While he was driving, he could still feel the weight of Alexa on his arms. She was no longer that thin girl he used to carry whenever she fell and cried. He got off the motorcycle when he saw the Miranda house. Donna was already there, directing the house helpers who were cleaning."And you showed your ass, asshole!" she immediately said to him, her mood clearly heated."I'm going to the animal clinic, are you coming or not?" he quickly asked, not bothering to get off."And what?" She cross

Chapter 9Alexa dragged her feet towards the other side of the second floor. Thankfully, the house was quite modern now. If it still looked like those in the photos from the antique albums she used to see, she would have been too afraid to explore. She might have even thought the mansion was a haunted house. She glanced around, observing the changes in the seven years since she last came home. She had nothing to do, and with no signal, she couldn’t chat with her friends in Manila. She was getting bored. She had been chatting with the household staff earlier, but she got tired of it and fell asleep. When she woke up and went upstairs, her sleepiness had disappeared. She grabbed some old books from the glass cabinet and started reading children’s books. These had been hers when she was little, probably from when she was about five years old because she remembered seeing them before she even had a clear memory. She saw the third living room. The rooms were still the same, but the doors h

Chapter 10Aslan reached for his side, still with his eyes closed, but when he couldn’t feel anything furry beside him, he immediately opened his eyes.Damn.Jumbo wasn’t there. He had fallen asleep earlier, and his pet, who never left the room without him, was missing. It seemed like it had decided to go out now.Half-awake, he pushed the comforter aside and stood up, wearing only his cotton shorts. Frowning, he walked to the slightly open door and peered outside. He had deliberately left it open for Jumbo to come back in, but it seemed like he had been forgotten.Usually, when Jumbo wasn’t in his room, the dog just sat on the sofa. But it wasn’t there either, so he fully stepped out of the room.He looked outside onto the balcony. The light had changed. It was already night. He had been asleep the whole day, which meant he hadn’t eaten yet. And it was his habit that when he was resting, he didn’t want to be disturbed unless there was an issue in the fields or with his animals. He gl

Chapter 11"YOUNG MASTER!" Aslan immediately looked at the housemaid who woke him up from his deep thoughts, his gaze following the young lady who had turned her back. It was always like that—the walkout. Even though he scolded her, it never worked. She never backed down and always had the final word. Jumbo ran up the stairs and came down to him. He's now looking at Aida. She was at the entrance of the dining room, peeking at him. "Time to eat!" she said, prompting him to nod while massaging his neck. This is so damn embarrassing. Why did Alexa's direct question about whether he used condoms when he had sex make him feel awkward? Little did he know that she had already seen him having sex at the falls. Shit. Alexa had really grown up, and maybe that's why she wasn’t bothered talking about such things—because she was studying Medicine, and topics like those didn’t faze her. Was the topic inappropriate, or was it his mind that was inappropriate? God. "Let's go, Jumbo," he called to his

Chapter 12"SO, what's wrong, can't you even manage to clean up?" Alexa asked Aslan sharply while the man looked at her, arms crossed. She almost wanted to slap him again because he hadn't reacted to the slap she gave him.He was really so arrogant, as always. Even Lucas was being dragged into this again. If she knew, maybe he was the only one with dirty thoughts about her."You've crossed the line, Alexa," he said to her, his jaw clenched tightly."Oh, why? Are you going to fight me? You want me to slap you again? How dare you say that to me, Aslan. Go ahead, slap me so you can get back at me. You should've—" Her eyes widened when Aslan suddenly grabbed the back of her hair and quickly tilted her head slightly upward. She closed her eyes at how fast he moved. Is he gay and pulling my hair? Her words were literally locked up inside her foul mouth when he kissed her lips.Oh my God!Her mind screamed in horror when she felt his lips crushing against hers. What the? Is Aslan really kiss

Chapter 13Aslan approached the polished bamboo stick that Alexa had hastily left behind before rushing to leave. She was only waiting for him to get annoyed before going to leave, too, and stop making noise. He hated it when it was Alexa he was about, he would always kiss her to shut her up. He couldn’t bring himself to hit her; he might be haunted by Geron and Caroline. He didn’t care if the lawyer kissed Alexa or if something happened between them. What mattered to him was his feelings. And now that she was in his control again, he wasn’t sure if he could hold back anymore.Alexa had grown up; she was no longer the fourteen-year-old minor. He could free the interest he had long been keeping locked up.He went downstairs to return the polished bamboo stick to Lorna. It was the handy weapon for the maids in case anyone dared to enter the house while he wasn’t around. No one had dared to steal from them because he wouldn’t tolerate it. He had a gun in his room, and he’d definitely use

Chapter 14FACE MASK!That was Alexa’s solution to hiding her lips from Aslan. Thank God she had brought boxes of masks from Manila to Escobar. She used them in the hospital, so she had plenty on hand. And now, she used her weapon against the rapist, Aslan. She faced him confidently wearing her pink hospital mask.Disgusting. He was her mother’s lover, and now he had kissed her. Aslan was revolting. And what was this?Alexa blinked several times, staring at the item in her palm. A condom. She was holding a condom. If she hadn’t been familiar with it because of medical school, she might have tossed it out in disgust.God. She knew it was a condom. They used them in the hospital often, especially since she was training to become an Obstetrician-Gynecologist. It wasn’t unfamiliar to her. But how did something like that end up in her car?It was probably Maxus’s. Knowing her ex-boyfriend’s habit of constantly having sex whenever she wasn’t around, it made sense. The condom in her hand lik

Chapter 41"Even just this once, Ma, think about yourself," Aslan said with a sigh as he watched his mother cough every now and then. She had gone to the bathroom several times to spit, and even though she wasn’t saying anything, he knew something wasn’t right."What did the doctor say about your illness?" he asked, confused. He didn’t even know if she was receiving any proper treatment. And whether he admitted it or not, it made a difference when a private doctor attended to a patient with a serious condition."I have medicine from the center. Now that we're here in Escobar, I'll register here to get free medicine again.""But you need rest," Aslan insisted to his mother. "Why do you still need to help Balbon and his team? There are already three of them working construction. Don’t tell me they’re making you feel obligated.""I need to help so we can build a house and buy a small plot of land in Aklan."He shook his head, looking away in frustration. Chapter 40Aslan couldn't find the two friends at the hotel when he arrived. He was on a motorcycle to get there faster. Now, he was clearly impatient, unsure of where to go next. He stood with his arms crossed near the entrance of the hotel, thinking about his next destination. He pursed his lips as he observed the passersby. Maybe they went to the church, but the receptionist had told him that the two had left a while ago, almost an hour ago.He stood there, arms crossed, but his face immediately soured when he saw Donna's motorcycle. She quickly parked in the parking space and angrily got off."You, idiot!" she immediately shouted, making him scratch his head. Here she goes again, trying hard to entertain herself."Donna, come on," he said lazily."Don't 'Donna' me! You're about to marry a lunatic, huh?!" she yelled at him, her voice loud and piercing. His temper flared up again, and he thought he might strangle her if he didn't control himself."Who told you that?" he answered cal

Chapter 39Aslan’s eyebrows furrowed when he saw Lorna at the stairs."Alexa?" he asked the maid, "Is she still asleep?"His head throbbed from the hangover. He really hated drinking. Why did he even think about drinking just because of his mom?"She's awake already, sir.""Tell her we'll have breakfast together," he said, descending the stairs as his head ached."Well, the señorito can leave."He immediately stopped in his tracks, almost snapping his neck from the sudden turn of his head."What do you mean, leave? Give me my key! She can't come back to Manila!" he angrily said."N-No, señorito. You're mistaken. Leave, as in going to town. She took her car."He breathed a sigh of relief, feeling like he almost fell down the stairs. Damn Lorna, she nearly scared him. He swore that no shadow of Alexa would escape him now. He’s a very changed man now. He doesn’t let go anymore. He grips."Next time, watch your words, Lorna," he said irritably."Y-Yes, señorito. Chapter 38WHAT THE FREAK? Alexa’s eyes widened as she quickly turned her gaze toward Aslan when he suddenly got off of her and staggered. He didn’t even make it to wherever he was heading because he slammed into the wall. "Aslan!" She screamed and immediately sat up. She quickly adjusted her clothes since one of her breasts was exposed. Shameless. Even her panties seemed to have shifted, so she fixed those too. This guy was so annoying. He was able to handle her while Maxus couldn’t. Totally unfair. Even though her cheeks were flushed, she forced herself to approach Aslan. He was leaning against the wall, looking like he might vomit, so she quickly helped him. "Are you okay? You're drunk, but you only had three bottles," she said, not mocking him in that situation. "I'm not a drunk," he replied, almost making her laugh. Maxus, on the other hand, would stay out drinking until morning. When she scolded him for it, he would get mad, saying he was already exhausted from work and she was

Chapter 37Alexa peeked from behind the wall, watching Aslan drink alcohol. She couldn't sleep because his offer kept bothering her, giving her a massive headache. She had asked her friend in Manila, Bea, if she should accept it. They had just finished chatting about everything, and Bea knew her current situation.Bea had asked why she was having such a hard time deciding. It should be easy to say no, she said. Why was Alexa so affected? Why, indeed?Bea also mentioned she wanted to see Aslan. She even suggested Alexa take a picture of him. Now, here she was, peeking from behind the wall but already distracted. Aslan was drinking alcohol, his food paired with roasted lechon."Must be nice if lechon was just your snack," she thought. Her phone vibrated, so she quickly checked the chat."I'm waiting here, Alex. I want to see your brotherhood," Bea said, prompting her to prepare her camera.Alexa made sure the flash was turned off. Pretending to use her phone, she stepped out from behind

Chapter 36Aslan checked the hotel to see if it was already safe for Alexa to meet Janice. He noticed Maxus’s car parked outside, and the man stepping out while pulling his luggage. So the guy didn’t leave yesterday after all. He really stood his ground. Well, at least now the stubborn idiot is finally leaving. He got out of his car as Maxus forcefully tossed his bag into the backseat of his vehicle.Aslan just stared at Maxus as the man irritably placed his hands on his hips and arrogantly kicked the car's wheel.Maxus turned in his direction, and Aslan, hands in his pockets, just continued to look at him."You…" Maxus growled when he recognized him."What?" Aslan raised a brow. "Watch your mouth and watch your step. This is my hotel, and this is my parking lot. I’m no lawyer, but I know my rights."The corner of his lips twitched into a mocking smirk."I'm not a good enemy to have, farmer," Maxus sneered at him."Neither am I," Aslan replied."You're claiming what’s mine. I saw you

Chapter 35Alexa felt like Aslan was angry with her because he silently got out of the car, carrying the papers from Engineer Zuria. What could be in those papers that had him so engrossed? He hadn’t taken his eyes off them since he received them.“Are you mad?” she asked, unable to hold back.He shook his head at her. “Next time, Maxus will be down for the count if he does that again.”Gosh.“I didn’t like that,” she said quickly, trying to defend herself. But why was she even explaining? She didn’t owe him any explanation; they weren’t even a thing. She was just being overly defensive. She just didn’t want him to think that even though she and Maxus had broken up, she was still cozying up to him like that.“I know. I saw it. I’m thinking about something else.”Donna? He walked straight into the house without saying another word.“Oh, you’re back. Chapter 34Aslan stared at the paper in his hand, his eyes fixed on the names written on it. It was a list of JSSEC personnel. He had just confirmed that his mother was really one of them. He sat inside the car after they had picked up Janice and her child from the neighboring town. He was parked in front of the hotel, patiently waiting for the young woman.Apparently, this was the only hotel with available rooms out of the three hotels owned by the Escobars. He wasn’t sure if he should have Balbon and the others evicted because of what Zuria had told him—that they had nowhere else to go, which included his mother.Aslan's anger and sense of compassion were clashing. He was torn and utterly confused. His head throbbed with the weight of it all. It felt as if he wanted to retaliate against those who had hurt him and made his life miserable. He sighed and slammed the papers on the dashboard. He checked his wristwatch and looked at the hotel entrance. There was still no sign of Alexa. He

Chapter 33Alexa couldn’t understand Aslan’s connection to her at that moment. As she stared at his face, deep sadness and anger were evident in his eyes.Who could he have seen? And why couldn’t she make him talk? By the look on his handsome face, those people must have caused him immense pain. His eyes were almost brimming with tears, leaving her confused."Sir Aslan, everything is ready. The count is complete and accurate," someone reported. He nodded and let go of her hand. She subtly adjusted the chair he had pulled closer for her earlier. It was as if he had become preoccupied with her hand, which he was gently massaging earlier. She was thankful he didn’t break her hand, considering his earlier cold demeanor that had now turned into sadness. He signed something. "Deposit thirty percent into the usual account," he instructed, making her blink in surprise. It was hers, she knew. She felt a pang of embarrassment."The beneficiary, sir?" the woman asked, to which he nodded in respo
