Chapter 6

If Ethan was removed and the South Regent made a move again, would the cities at the borders survive?

George and Stephen’s expressions were grim with anger when their plan was exposed.

“Nonsense. Ethan is just an orphan with no skills. He even dropped out of high school. What contributions has he made?

“On the other hand, Stephen is the son of the Quinns in the capital. Not only did he graduate from the top academy, but he also studied abroad for three years and gained exceptional skills. Ethan is nothing compared to Stephen!”

Zane scoffed in disdain. “If he’s so amazing, the GDP of the capital should’ve long surpassed that of Riveria and become the top in the nation, right?”

George was instantly silenced, and Stephen’s expression darkened further.

“I only have one thing to say. Riveria when it’s managed by Ethan and when not are two completely different places. Ethan will have an easier life if he leaves Riveria, but without him, Riveria will crumble!”

George slammed the table and yelled, “Are you threatening me?”

“Threatening you?” Zane was not afraid of him. “I’m just telling the truth.”

“Get out!”

George was furious. He refused to believe that trash like Ethan was that great. All he did was raise the GDP to 15 trillion dollars. Anyone who could put in a little effort could achieve that.

Zane was just as angry, and his chest heaved with frustration. Since he had said what he had to say, he simply left, and the manager did so silently as well.

“I refuse to believe it.” George gnashed his teeth. “Riveria will fall without Ethan? As if!”

To the side, Rachel added, “Exactly. Ethan is just trash, yet they say Riveria needs him? What a joke.”

Stephen took a deep breath, trying to calm himself down.

Then, he said, “Don’t worry, George. Ethan isn’t that impressive. I’ll surpass him! No one will dare say a word when I raise Riveria’s GDP to 20 trillion dollars.”

George nodded in satisfaction, and Rachel looked at him longingly. Meeting a man as remarkable as him was a blessing she could only have hoped for!

Late at night, Liam drove Ethan to the base of Sky Peak. It was the closest point to the border and the most chaotic area of Riveria.

Just across the border, gunfights occurred daily. Even if they could not be seen, one could always hear the shots fired. The people here went to bed every night with their hearts in their throats, fearing they might not see the sun rise the next day.

Liam had brought a few men along to escort Ethan there. Before getting out of the car, they cautiously checked their surroundings. However, even before Ethan had arrived, the people beyond the border had received the news.

When they heard Ethan was coming, they instantly settled down. Thus, that night, the locals experienced the quietest night in history. It was so quiet that people began to wonder if they were imagining things.

Liam lay in bed and found it odd. The place was said to be chaotic with gunfire and explosions heard every night. Why was it so quiet with no apparent danger?

The next morning, Ethan got up early, had breakfast, and prepared to head up Sky Peak.

Liam asked worriedly, “Are you really going there?”

He could not understand why anyone would want to climb the dangerous mountain.

“You can stay here. I’ll be back by noon,” Ethan said calmly.

“No way.” Liam immediately responded, “It’s dangerous up there. How can I let you go alone?”

Ethan then bought a bottle of whiskey from a shop before walking out.

Liam followed him out of the inn. As soon as they reached the entrance, they found the street completely quiet.
