6. Out of Nowhere

Attorney David Mendez arrived at the hospital after one hour. He is one of the cream of the crop lawyers from LE Firm. A well-known law firm based in the United States and branches out in different countries. Atty. Mendez is the current CEO of LE Firm that was based here in the Philippines.

" Don Augustus. Sir Nicolo. "

Attorney Mendez says as he shakes hands with both gentlemen with a thrift and polite smile.

" Thank you for coming on such short notice."

Nicolo said.

" It's no trouble, Sir Nick. I understand that this is important. " Attorney Mendez said politely.

" I need you to take care of some papers. And I need you to get us permission to fly in the US right now with an emergency patient and her daughter. "

" I understand Don Augustus. "

Atty. Mendez sits in the waiting area and flips open his laptop and starts typing documents and makes a lot of phone calls through his phone. The lawyer then went to the nurses station and walked back into the waiting area holding some copies of documents.

" I'm glad that you've taken time out from your busy schedule to do these for me. I have someone who needs medical attention so we're going to have to leave as soon as possible. "

Don Augustus said. Attorney Mendez shook his head.

" No, sir. That's not a problem at all. "

Nicolo quietly moves away from them and starts to dial on his phone too.

" Hey, Travis."

" Hey. I double checked the caller ID and I really can't believe my eyes. "

Said the man on the other line followed by a chuckle. Nicolo on the other hand is a bit embarrassed. He reached the back of his head and closed his eyes tight. He has never spoken to Travis ever since 'that' day and even years have already passed, approaching him gets a little bit harder and awkward.

" Stop makin' fun of me, stupid doctor. "

But it just makes Travis laugh more. He can imagine Nicolo's embarrassed face right now. Nicolo can't help but smile a bit as he hears Travis'laughter.

" Seriously Doctor Williams, I need your help. I mean, there's someone who needs your help. "

Neurosurgeon Travis Williams stopped laughing and suddenly became serious.

" Who is it? What happens? "

" I don't know who she is and I don't know what exactly happened. But I think, no, we think that we needed to save her. No matter what. "

The doctor finds it weird but he doesn't mind. This patient makes Nicolo call him first so the doctor thinks he owes this girl big time. He will thank her after he saves her.

And they ended the phone call. Nicolo exhaled exasperatedly. He feels that a weight on his heart has been lifted.

' Who would have thought that an emergency operation would make me call that punk first? '

After he pocketed his phone he saw his Grandpa talking seriously on his phone.

' What's going on with this old man? '

He walks toward him.

Don Augustus' calls ended before Nicolo could get close to him.

" I talked to Travis. "

The Don's brows arched.

" Don't give me that look. It's annoying. "

" Huh. Says the most annoying human I've ever met. "

" Yes. "

" I think my blood pressure just spikes at its highest. "

" Good for you, we're already at the hospital. "

The nurse comes and escorts the group to the elevator. Once inside, the doors shut. The elevator goes up to the seventh floor where the ICU unit is located. Nicolo opens the door and walks straight towards the room without hesitation. The moment he entered he saw her lying on the bed with tubes all over her body. She looks like a sleeping beauty with long black hair on either side of her face. As Nicolo walks towards the bed and stands next to her bed, he sees that she now has some color on her face. There are bags underneath her eye, which indicates that she lost quite a bit of energy. Her heartbeat was also fast but stable, unlike a few minutes ago.

" I wonder what her name is. "

Adam spoke absentmindedly.

" Mirage. "

Nicolo looked at his grandfather with knowing eyes.

' Now I wonder why he would say that name out of nowhere. '

" That's a nice name. "

Adams said not thinking anything about it. As Nicolo was about to respond, the doctor came in and walked up to the bed.

" She woke up 10 minutes ago, but she hasn't regained consciousness yet again. Mr. Esquibel, you can lie here at the other bed so we can start the blood transfusion. "

" Alright. "

Nicolo just replied and dismissed the thought inside his head. Now is not the time to question everything he notices regarding his grandfather's behavior. Nicolo knows that something is off the moment he brought this woman into the mansion. She really needs to survive this to make everything clear.

The doctor sighed.

" She has very weak vital signs. We have tried everything and her condition still isn't improving. She really needs the surgery "
