23: Truth

My throat ran dry at the intensity of his gaze as he stared at me, and I swallowed on nothing. I tore my gaze away from him and turned to the bartender. I didn’t want to think about Jace or what he was doing at the club. It wasn’t my business, last I checked. He could do whatever he wanted, and the only one who got to ask was Scarlett, his girlfriend, not me.

I groaned and requested another shot from the young bartender. He nodded and poured it in for me, and I quickly picked it up and drank. I needed to numb the thoughts going through my head. The reason I came out was to live, have fun, and do away with the thought of the man named Jace Henshaw II, and now here he was, ruining my night. I couldn’t let him mess this up. I would not forgive myself if I spent the night thinking about Jace.

I dropped from the stool before the counter where I had sat for ten minutes, and I felt my breast bounce around a little in the dress as I wore no bra in it.

I turned around, and my heart almost leapt
