29: Payment

Getting punished for my “misbehaviour” at the dinner table was not what I expected, but I wouldn’t say I didn’t like it. Jace texted me to come over to his place after clinical, adding that there was so much we needed to catch up on. I held a goofy smile on my face after reading the message, and I knew tonight would not be like other nights.

After work, I drove over to his place as instructed, and as I made my way in, I felt giddy, almost like a schoolgirl about to go meet her crush at the basketball court after school. Usually, the stress of the day leaves me worn and exhausted, so I wouldn’t have the strength to do anything but eat and sleep, but I had so much energy stored up in anticipation of what was to come.

I entered the living room, and I didn’t see a trace of Jace anywhere. After calling out to him a few times and getting no response, I dialled his number.
