Yes, I had never missed Jace’s birthday party, and I missed the last two because I was at the university. Lyon always showed up to support his friend, and I always tagged along because, well, he was Jace. This was the first one I’d miss missed, but I knew they would barely notice my absence. Jace would have his hands filled with beautiful and sophisticated women, and that would keep him too occupied to notice the absence of the girl that was more like a pain in his ass.

He avoids me at all costs now. He would deny it, but I knew the truth. I couldn’t believe there was a time when we were inseparable. Growing up, I was his wing baby and then turned into his wing girl.

Now I couldn’t stomach the thought of him with other women.

Perhaps this was his way of helping me get over how I felt about him. It didn’t help.

I would stay home tomorrow because I would never get what I want from him, so why even bother?
