“How is she?” I said, upon seeing Kevin standing in the hallway outside Kiera’s hospital room.

Kevin sighed and ran a hand through his hair before responding, “She’s stable for now, but the doctors aren’t sure how long she will stay that way.”

“Don’t worry, Marie’s parents agreed to donate her the lungs she needs for a transplant,” I said, trying to offer a glimmer of hope in the midst of uncertainty. “Hopefully, she can make a full recovery with the transplant.”

“I don’t know, man; I’m not sure if she’s strong enough to survive the surgery.” Kevin’s words crashed over me like a wave of doubt.

“What the fuck are you talking about, Kevin? Kiera is a fighter; she’s been through so much already. She can handle this; I believe in her,” I replied firmly, trying to bolster Kevin’s wavering confidence in Kiera’s strength and resilience.

Kevin put a hand on my shoulder, giving it a gentle squeeze. “I want that too. I just can’t shake this feeling of uncertainty.”
