Chapter 1

My decision surprised my best friend, Sophia. But she noticed that I was feeling really down, and she was worried.

“Emma, have you broken up with Randy?”

“I have. He wants to perform the marking ceremony with Alina. I was abandoned.”

I still did not want to accept the fact that Alina was more important to Randy than I was.

“I told you before that he’s not someone worth committing to! Monica, on the other hand, is a good person.”

Indeed. Everyone knew that my parents had died for Wildfire Pack, which was Randy’s pack. Monica took me in when I became an orphan, and I grew up with Randy.

Monica loved me dearly, and she also knew that I had always loved Randy. Hence, she wanted the two of us to be bonded.

“Randy’s a selfish and irresponsible person! When he confessed to you, he said that you were the most important person to him, but look at him now! Alina showed up, and he broke his promise!” Sophia continued.

When she noticed that my mood got worse, Sophia immediately changed the subject. “But enough about that. It’s all in the past. When do I pick you up? What are your plans? I’ll do whatever you ask of me.”

Before I could answer, Randy suddenly came back with a curious and puzzled expression. “What plans? Emma, you don’t have to worry about my marking ceremony with Alina. I can make my own arrangements.

“Since I’ve already promised my mother to mark you, I’ll carry out my promise. Just wait for me.”

I thought that he returned because Monica had passed away, but by the looks of it, he did not even know that his mother had died.

“Randy, what matters now isn’t who you’re marking. Your mother just passed away at home.”

Randy was taken aback before he earnestly said to me, “Emma, sit down. We need to talk.”

After I sat down, he looked at me sternly. “My mother treated you really kindly, yet you’re cursing her with death just to stop me from marking Alina? That isn’t right.

“From now on, all I need you to do is have a little patience and wait.

“I promise you that after I perform my marking ceremony with Alina, I’ll immediately come back to see you and make arrangements for our own ceremony.

“It’s just a few days. Can’t you just be patient and wait?

“Have some sympathy. Alina’s mother did me a favor, and I’m just fulfilling her wish.”

Then, Randy kissed me on the forehead before grabbing my hand and giving me the most brutal warning in the gentlest voice, “My father passed away when I was young, and my mother brought us up alone. She loves you, and you owe her a huge favor.

“You lost your mother at a young age, so you’ve never felt what it’s like for a child to love their mother. I can forgive you for that, but I can’t accept you being so cruel. Cursing my mother is a horrible thing, and if another person had been here, I would have had to punish you.”

I did not know how to defend myself for a time.

I had told him the truth, but he accused me of cursing Monica.

Was I such a shameless person in his eyes?

The sight of my silence made Randy smirk slightly. He thought I was scared that he would dump me if he decided to take this seriously.

“Once we get through our marking ceremony, I’ll be yours. I promise you that I won’t give Alina anything else aside from that marking ceremony.”

“Okay.” I nodded.

Monica’s funeral was in a few days. Once I was done with preparations, I could tell him; it would not be too late yet.

Randy appeared to be happy and relaxed, to the point that he was going to start whistling. He wanted to say something else, but a car honk interrupted him.

Had the staff from the funeral home come to pick up Monica’s body?

Randy stood up in a hurry and headed out after he grabbed something. “Alina’s here to pick me up for the elders’ meeting. We’re taking a blood oath under the Moon Goddess’s statue. Her mother believes that only mates who’ve sworn blood oaths can be happy forever.“Don’t worry. It’s all fake. I’m just doing it to fulfill her mother’s dying wish.”“Okay. Go ahead.” I nodded, and Randy left, though slowly since I was acting far too abnormally. Not only had I gone along with whatever he had said, but I had also not argued with him when I usually would. I had even asked him to go, so he looked at me hesitantly. When he reached the door, he hugged my waist gently. He also tried to kiss me to offer some comfort. I was wondering how to avoid Randy’s kiss when Alina rushed over and grabbed his hand. The next second, she hugged his waist and blushed. “Your abs are just as firm as before. They’re so full of strength…”Feeling awkward, Randy cleared his throat, but he had this indescrib

Soon, the employees from the funeral home came over to retrieve Monica’s body. I told them what they needed to pay attention to on the day of her funeral.I intended to leave ahead of schedule, and I believed that I would have already left Wildfire Pack by the time her funeral rolled around. As the car left with Monica’s body, I bowed in its direction as an earnest farewell to the mother who had brought me up. Shadow, my wolf, whispered in my head, “Emma, it’s time for you to live for yourself.”I then drove to the largest and most luxurious Moon Goddess’s photography studio. It was to cancel the shoot for my marking ceremony and retrieve my deposit. The employee checked my details and spoke apologetically. “I’m sorry, Miss Klein, but we cannot refund your deposit. You’ve already taken your photos with Randy, your alpha.”The employee brought out the photos from the moon shadow crystal, and I looked through all of them.Within the crystal was Alina, who wore a gown symbolizin

Randy started spam calling me, but I answered none of his calls. I ended up answering after he used a different phone, and he started yelling at me, “Emma, you’re the one who’s in the wrong! Why are you still kicking up a fuss?! Are you ignoring me to get my attention?!“Have you forgotten that it’s our marking ceremony today?! Why aren’t you here?!“Also, why is there only a coffin in the church, and why is my mother lying in it?! Is this her funeral?”His voice cracked as he broke down bit by bit. He probably realized something because he started crying as he continued yelling at me, “When did my mother die?!”“She died on the day you agreed to perform the marking ceremony with me,” I calmly said.“Why didn’t you tell me?!”I sneered and answered coldly, “I did, but you thought that I was cursing your mother. You said that you knew her condition better than anyone else. You even warned me to never speak about your mother’s condition again, or you’d make me lose everything.“I

I returned to Faraway Hill Pack with Sophia. Ethan Stonevale, her brother and my fiance, was already waiting for us there. From what I remembered, Ethan was a werewolf with black hair and sharp green eyes. I could not remember much else about him. After all, I only cared about Randy in the past, and I would run after him no matter where he went. Back then, I thought that Randy was the most handsome alpha in the world. However, I knew that I was wrong once I saw Ethan. I never noticed how handsome he was before. He was tall, and his black hair shone with a silver glow under the moonlight. His green eyes were like emeralds found deep within the Moonlight Forest. They shone with wisdom and strength. It was obvious that once I stopped loving someone, that person would just be a passerby in my world. No wonder Sophia always said that I was either blind or Randy had fed me some sort of Wolfsbane. It was because I could not see her perfect brother.I finally understood that I had nearl

Ethan made me understand that if a person really wanted to marry me, he would not make me wait for even a minute. He did not say, “Emma, let’s only perform the marking ceremony once your arm recovers.”Since I was a perfectionist, I had readily accepted all of Randy’s excuses to push our marking ceremony back. He knew just how to make me change my mind. That was why he managed to keep me waiting. I also knew that once my arm recovered, it would leave behind a scar. If I had continued to wait for Randy, he would have easily pushed our marking ceremony back again. He would have told me that I had to wait until the scar faded, simply because I had been fine with his treatment of me.However, I had already accepted my scars. After all, I had finally come to understand that perfection did not exist. The scar on my arm was the price I paid for turning a blind eye, for not listening to advice, for stubbornly clinging to my love, and for only caring about Randy. I had changed into

One day, Sophia called me out of nowhere. Ethan was working in his study, while I was watching TV in the living room. “Emma, check out the Union Channel! Randy’s called for another press conference!”Alarm bells rang in my head. I switched channels, and lo and behold, Randy was sitting in front of the camera. He pointed at his chest with two fingers as he said, “Emma loves me the most! Me, Randy Blaze! She’ll never leave me!”One of the reporters raised his microphone and asked, “Are you talking about Emma Klein, Ethan Stonevale’s luna?”“Emma only faked her bond with him! She loves me the most!”As if he knew that I was watching him on TV, he suddenly looked at the camera. “Aren’t I right, Emma?
