Eleonore’s POV

“I hope I won’t have to explain how you should hold yourself as an Everwood. You are my daughter and you have my name. Don’t embarrass me.”

My heart thudded in my chest. It was the first time my father had spoken to me in hours and what came out was a warning. I knitted my fingers together in my lap and nodded compliantly.

Any other answer would’ve been the wrong one.

“And—” he added, his tone getting a bit darker. My breath grew shallow as I recognized this warning was tinging on the edge of a threat. I held myself still, not daring to look him in the eye. “I hope I don’t have to tell you to stay away from anything supernatural. Wouldn’t want you causing trouble, would we? You’re smarter than that, aren’t you?”

“…Yes, Father.”

“Of course, you’re my daughter. You know better than that.” He nodded, and that was that, much to my relief, small as it was.

At least this time he didn’t slap me. Last car ride we shared was when he was bringing me home from a business dinner. The reason for the slap? I didn’t smile enough, didn’t sit straight enough, did not flatter the hosts enough. I indeed knew better now.

The car fell back into silence, heavy and stifling. Not even the radio was on as my father drove me all the way to school for my first semester of college. If the air conditioning wasn’t on, I believe I’d feel my father’s ire literally pouring off of him in waves.

There was no turning back now though, it took too much to get to where I was going. Oakwood University. It was picturesque with a wide array of majors and minors to choose from. Their professors were notable people, and many graduates had successful prospects for their futures.

I… didn’t really have the same, no matter what I did, but this was an opportunity I couldn’t afford to squander. It was only thanks to Thomas that Father even allowed me to attend, but I could tell the decision made him angry.

He didn’t like when we didn’t go along with his plans, and it made him difficult to be around. Not that he wasn’t already, just… more so. Always harder to deal with the unfamiliar, right?

The high standards, the intimidation, the hits, those were easy to deal with, but if he escalated though? I wouldn’t be able to predict if he’d lock me away till I learned my lesson or if he’d get just a little meaner, a little crueler to make sure the lesson stuck and left me and my brother hurt in the crossfire.

I would’ve preferred it if Thomas was the one taking me, at least he would’ve been excited for me, but I had already pressed my luck. Anymore and… well… he had risked enough for me to be here. I wouldn’t ask any more of him.

The school colors stood out brightly on the pamphlet I held, green and gold with crisp white lettering. A dorm room was advertised on the inside. All the students in the pictures looked happy.

“I've had the university prepare a single room for you. They were happy to accommodate your needs after I told them about your condition and made a hefty donation.”

The campus was everything I had hoped it would be. Lush and green, students milling about, and plenty of opportunities.

I didn’t have much luggage to pull out of the trunk, just a backpack and a large duffel bag but I wasn’t so worried about how many things I had as I was about my father waving at someone.

For a moment I feared the worst, but it was minorly better than what I assumed. The president of the college had come out to greet my father.

“Mr. Everwood, it’s an honor to have you and your daughter here at our university. Here, allow me to show you where Eleonore will be staying. We placed her in one of the newer buildings to ensure that she’d have everything she needed to take care of her health.”

“Wonderful, I and my daughter appreciate you putting in so much effort, Mr. Carraway.”

Father smiled, businesslike and charming, as if he hadn’t donated a sizable chunk to shut me away from as many people as possible.

‘That isn’t why you’re here,’ I reminded myself. ‘You’re here to learn. It’s fine.’

The walk wasn’t too far, the stairs were… something though. I’d been placed on the fourth floor, no elevator despite it being a newer building, and my room was at the end of the hall, away from the common area and most of the people on my floor… if there were people on my floor.

“And here it is! I’ve taken the initiative to retrieve your keys for you but if you ever lose them you can call campus security to unlock your door or get a new one for fifty dollars at the security office.”

Mr. Carraway handed my key off to me before turning to my father.

“If you could spare a bit of your time, Mr. Everwood, there were a few things I wanted to talk to you about.”

“Of course. Just let me say goodbye. Eleonore, have a wonderful time at college—just not too much fun.” And father leaned in, pressing a kiss to the top of my head and I stiffened, but I managed to laugh it off and smile.

“Of course, father.”

‘Yes. Of course. Understood.’ There was no other answer, and I watched and waited as my father walked away with the university president.

The heavy door to the stairwell closed with a thunk, and then I was scrambling for the door with my keys, throwing it open and almost slamming it behind me, slumping against it and taking a heaving breath.

I made it. I actually made it, and my father hadn’t stopped me or changed his mind. I was at university and the thought left me so giddy that I couldn’t help but laugh. My knees almost gave out on me, but I did drop my bags to the floor.

Oakwood University freshman, as a child I had no idea how much I’d dream of being one, or how hard that dream would be to achieve. I didn’t know if I was going to see a sophomore year or even a second semester, but right now I was here, and that was all that mattered.

When I looked up, my breath caught, and my eyes started to water as I took in the sight before me. I wasn’t facing a bland room with cream-colored walls and plastic blinds, but an almost exact replica of my room back home.

Pale blue walls and hardwood floors with a big, soft pink rug on the floor. The full-sized bed took up a good chunk of the room while an oriental-looking desk had a little lantern lamp on it, and little maple leaves on the panels.

Hung up on the wall was a print of one of Mother’s designs, an inked version of a building with a unique curve to the glass.

It was my room. It looked just like my room.

On top of the soft cotton sheets and heavy throw blanket was a note and I immediately recognized my brother’s handwriting.

-

Dear Eleonore,

Did you like your surprise? I managed to get my people to come in and set up the space just how you like it. I hope it makes you happy and that you’ll feel safe in your new home for your time at university. I can’t wait to see what you design.

Love, Thomas.

-

Oh, Thomas…

I couldn’t help but smile, heart swelling at the gesture. He knew how much this meant to me, I just wish he could’ve had the same chance, but he was the heir to Father’s hotel empire while I was the second child and his only daughter.

We both got the short end of the stick.

I’d have to call him later and thank him, and make sure he was doing alright too. Moving around father’s influence wasn’t easy and Thomas’s influence wasn’t as big as either of us would like for his own safety. Best to just make sure nothing was wrong.

My phone buzzed, and I pulled it out, seeing that my school email was working properly as all the freshmen were being summoned to start their orientation in the gymnasium.

I slid my keys in my pocket, giving my room one last look before heading out. It seemed that I wasn’t the only one who’d gotten the reminder as a bunch of people were leaving the dorm buildings and heading over.

The walk was short, and I kept my head low for most of it. No eye contact, no drawing attention, just keeping a low profile. Following Father’s indications to the T.

“Alright, I think we’ve got almost everyone, welcome freshmen to Oakwood University! Now take a look around you, some of these people that you see are going to be your best friends for the rest of your life—or you’ll stay strangers in different departments for half of that!” The host announcer said cheerfully. They looked like a senior student dressed in a green and gold t-shirt.

“Now turn to your left! Fantastic, now half of you turn right and we can get this whole thing started by introducing ourselves! I’ll go first and make it a bit easier for all of you. I’m Alice, and I major in biochemistry. Your turn!”

“Wow, biochem, what a flex.” The person next to me whistled lowly, and I turned to see a girl with jet-black hair with red streaks, and bright blue eyes. She wore a jean jacket and combat boots, but she offered up an easy smile.

“I’m Charlotte Black, but you can call me Charlie. I’m just gonna be a regular old chemistry major.”

“Eleonore Everwood, but people call me Ellie. I’m majoring in architecture and design.”

“Well, guess we’re not going to be strangers in different departments.”

“Haha! I guess not.”

‘Look at that, Thomas, I’m actually making friends,’ I thought as we were led through games and get-to-know-yous. It was… nice. I wouldn’t be spending my time here entirely alone.

After orientation, I headed back towards my dorm. I’d need to wake up bright and early for the tours tomorrow, and I wanted to know about everything the campus had to offer.

I was just rounding the corner to another building, looking towards the gymnasium's metal roof in the distance when I slammed into a wall.

No, not a wall, walls don’t have arms.

My heart pounded as a hand landed on the small of my back, keeping me from tumbling over.

“Sorry.” The low rumble of his voice had me looking up. The warm heat from his close proximity made my heart skip several beats and my face felt hot—and then my breath hitched.

He was handsome, with dark brown hair, and deep brown eyes and it was no surprise he managed to knock me back so easily when he was a head taller and built like he was made for sports. He had lovely features, but those eyes flashed gold, and the jolting attraction I felt had me backpedaling as quickly as I could.

“Sorry! I’m so sorry about that. Clumsy me, sorry… I really should get going.” I pulled away as fast as I could, and not that I was running away—but I was running away and not doing it as elegantly as I hoped or probably should’ve.

“Hey—wait-!”

There was absolutely no way I was waiting, and I hurried away before he could stop me or worse, interact with him.

The ONE thing I wasn’t supposed to do, and I’d done it, run into the supernatural and it was barely day one!

Those golden eyes, he was obviously a werewolf, but they didn’t usually reveal themselves like that.

Oh, God. I must’ve upset him by running into him and he was angry enough to give me a warning.

I had to calm down and get a hold of myself. It was just an accident, one little mistake, surely he wouldn’t chase after me and make a big deal out of it, would he? I was just one little human and only the president of the university knew who my father was.

It was fine, I was fine, I reminded myself.

Still, I checked behind me, but there was no one. Just other students, no brown-haired werewolf, and I sighed in relief.

Good. That was—that was good.

No trouble, my father had warned me, and even without the second warning, getting involved with the supernatural would be nothing BUT trouble.

They didn’t advertise themselves to the populace and only some people were in the know. Usually, the rich and affluent like my father, but even then I’d only seen a vampire or werewolf once or twice, and that was when my father was making a deal.

That guy was probably only the third or fourth werewolf I’d ever seen—and hopefully, it would stay that way.

After everything I’d been through, I didn’t need the trouble. I was finally at Oakwood University. I was really here, and nothing was going to ruin it. Not my father and certainly not any werewolves.

Missael’s POVWhat was that? The moment had been all too brief but for some reason the impact lingered, like the light scent of lilac she wore still hanging in the air around me.I’d rounded the corner, trying to head back to our apartment after orientation, when her delicate frame collided into me and threatened to topple backward. Her vibrant eyes took me by surprise as I caught her trembling torso in my palm. It wasn’t like I was going to let her fall to the ground, even though she ran into me, but the reaction to having her in my hold… hadn’t been the reaction I’d expected. On either of our parts. She trembled as soon as we collided but when our eyes met, she looked like a bird caught on a wire. I felt her sudden desperation to be free of my hold but was too stunned to speak or even move as she pulled back. She turned her mesmerizing eyes away, breaking whatever spell had stunned me in time to see the swish of her hair as it flowed around in the air behind her.

Eleonore’s POV My alarm went off at eight in the morning. I’d miss the breakfast hours in the caf getting up this late, but the morning called for a coffee and pastry which I could easily get from one of the nearby coffee shops. It was the first day of classes and I couldn’t have been more excited for them. I’d have my preceptorial course first thing in the morning, followed by a mandatory math class I wasn’t looking forward to, and then my elective course, the whole reason I was here.Introductions to Architecture and Design. The same course my mother took decades ago when she first attended Oakwood University.I quickly got ready, going through my morning routine. After getting dressed and brushing my hair, I picked up an orange pill bottle and popped out two pills, the required dose, before swallowing them dry.Another stipulation for attending. If I attended then I had to remember to take my medicine every morning and if I forgot, there would be hell to pay. I knew

Gabriel’s POVHer eyes were green. That’s what I noticed about her.It was bordering on hazel but no, they were closer to green than anything else. When I went to the library it was with the intention of getting some books on business to get a head start on my courses. Micro and Macroeconomics were unfortunately a required course and not something I was looking forward to either. After university father would be shifting a lot of responsibilities onto me so I could get used to leading the pack as the future alpha. That also meant managing the businesses we had that kept us funded.I had just been there for books, then I saw her. It seemed that I wasn’t the only one trying to get a head start.Seeing the person that had caught Missael’s attention had me making the decision to confront her myself. I knew that Missael wanted to drop the whole thing and forget about it, but I couldn’t, not when he acted so odd afterwards.Normally, Missael was the most levelheaded out of

Eleonore’s POVOnce? Happenstance. I could live with that. Survived worse, was paranoid from less. Twice? Time to PANIC.The moment the werewolf in front of me faltered and got distracted, I booked it out of there like killing me in the library was his modus operandi. Not that he would’ve, looking back on it, seeing as a murder like that would’ve been as easy to figure out as a game of Clue, but still. The panic was in charge after that. Not one werewolf but two seemed interested in me, from an accident. It felt so unfair that a moment of distraction could wreck my campus life but here we were.I wondered if I would have to look over my shoulder now, looking out for gold eyes and anything else that was supernatural that I wasn’t supposed to be involved in.That was the RULE. The lines I had to stay in to have what I wanted, and they were severely messing up the scant few opportunities I DID have under my father’s rule.I had managed to get back to my dorm after escapin

Gael’s POVI slammed the door to our apartment open as soon as I returned. After leaving the library I practically sprinted back. I wished there was dinner waiting like I said in my lie if only to give me something to do to avoid the messy thoughts in my head.I finally understood why Gabriel and Missael were so confused about what happened, and what they felt because it wasn’t what it was supposed to be.When I handed her my phone our fingers brushed. It was a test, just a test. Had to check if my instincts would flare up on me, make sure some territorial thing going on between us wasn’t the reason for all this. That sure as hell wasn’t the reason but I wished it was!We touched, there was a small spark, and I practically lost it. Missael, okay, I always thought he’d feel the matebond first. Gabriel, it wasn’t necessary, but he was always going to find a mate, and he had enough luck for a fated mate. Me? Maybe, I was social enough for it.All three of us, well we had ho

Eleonore’s POV“How do you eat that first thing in the morning?” I asked, staring at Gael as he went to town on not one, or two, but four chocolate chip banana waffles. There was a little waffle machine near the toasters with waffle batter. So not only did you have to make them yourself, but you had to go one by one since there were only two machines and you couldn’t just take both of them, especially during the breakfast rush. It was a sugar bomb, paired with milk, orange juice, fruit, bacon, sausage, and a side of oatmeal. Gael was trying to have Sunday brunch all by himself on a Wednesday at 7:45 AM—and this wasn’t the first time he had stacked his plates sky high.“Gotta make sure I have the energy to make it to lunch. What about you?”“What about me?” I asked, looking at my plate. “My breakfast is normal, thank you.”“It’s a cup of black coffee and a muffin. I have a right to judge you,” Gael protested, and I rolled my eyes. I didn’t usually eat breakfast, bac

Darius's POV*Somewhere in the Everwood world*It was late in the evening. Most of the services at the Everwood Hotel would’ve stopped for the night. The pool was closed, room service was no longer in service, and the front desk was down to half its normal workforce, but those weren’t things Darius Everwood had to think about at the moment.Normally he would, his family’s hotel chain was his life’s work and part of the empire he’d been building ever since his father told him he was going to inherit everything. He couldn’t stand it when things were out of place or work was sloppy when it came to the things that were his. There were currently bigger things at play though, things he’d been working on for years and he couldn’t allow it to slip out of his fingers. He was currently on the road, headlights on low as he drove down a path so old there was no asphalt, only overgrowth, and flattened grass. There weren’t too many old buildings left in the area, but this one was a sigh

No werewolves or supernatural beyond the books Professor Cross had recommended to me. Just homework and friends and it was wonderful. It made sense that Charlie was worried. Normally people joined clubs or sports or whatnot to fill their day with something to do and while a few clubs were interesting to me I hadn’t really joined or participated in any meetings.Maybe I was a bit scared, maybe I was a bit wary about interacting with more people, but I’d been going at my own pace! Eleonore’s POV Alpha Sined scolded his sons for their actions of preemptively marking me. I was let off rather lightly and given some reading material to go over while he had the guys train until they dropped. Despite that though, the marks remained, mostly covered by my hair and so faint you could barely see them but just brushing my fingers over them made me stupidly happy. After that, it was time to finally return to college. It felt like so long ago since I’d been on the campus, and even though winter was just around the corner the grass was still green as I stepped out of the car and took in the sights. Lush green, students milling about, and plenty of opportunities. So many opportunities that I didn’t know what to do, I was too excited. “I’ll see you guys later, alright!” “Don’t keep us waiting too long, alright?!” Gael called as I hurried off towards my dorm, well, my new dorm. I had already exchanged my keys. After my father cut ties, he pulled away from being a

Gabriel’s POVThere was never a sight more beautiful than Ellie. She was…absolutely everything, and I adored her so much. To think that day in the library would spiral into this. So much had changed in so little time but I already knew that she was IT.There would be no one else, no one else I’d want or love as much as her, I knew that deep within my soul.Lying there on the bed, sprawled out the way she was and looking so content it felt like a sin to disturb her. Gael and Missael ran her hard, not that I blamed them. We’d all been waiting so long to finally have her like this, as we so desperately craved.Wholly. Intimately. We couldn’t help such desires any more than we could help loving her.Watching had been a strange sort of pleasurable torture, and reassuring in the weirdest of ways, to know that they could take care of her so well when I would be busy and couldn’t be around. And that was the crux of the matter, wasn’t it? When I was the alpha, I’d be busy, there was

Gael’s POVI owed Gabriel like, an entire week of me not giving him crap, holy shit. I hadn’t expected watching Ellie get fucked to be so inspiring but damn, I wanted to be there, doing those things to her. Before I’d been fantasizing about it, who wouldn’t when you had an absolutely gorgeous partner? However, that’s what it had been before, a fantasy, and now it wasn’t because I didn’t need to imagine how she looked without clothes or how she sounded like getting fucked. If I’d been desperate before then whatever I was now was probably going to die from the sheer need, not just to get off because I wanted to make Ellie feel good. Maybe it was just the people pleaser in me but I really, really wanted to make this good for her.I think Gabriel could see that, and Missael could definitely feel that which was why I was allowed to go next.Ellie was a sight, with flushed cheeks, chest heaving with every breath, and I joined her, tilting her head to kiss her, twirling our tongues

  • The Four Sides of Desire   Chapter 47 : Tight with Pleasure

Missael’s POVThe mating ceremony was like the werewolf version of a wedding, along with a few almost ritualistic notes to it.In the evening under a full moon, you’d exchange vows, present yourselves to the Moon Goddess, and under the light of the moon, be blessed with a wonderful union. Then, you’d bite your mate and leave your mark deep enough to scar.Similar to wedding vows, standing before the pastor, then exchanging symbols of loyalty to each other, which was then followed by a big celebration. The Moon Goddess was the witness to the union. We had done something a little different with our bites and they were more akin to a promise ring, though, in the end, Father might still be scandalized by our actions. We had all talked about all our choices and what we wanted to do and decided that this was it. We agreed upon it and there was no second-guessing ourselves. We knew what we wanted. We didn’t want something as flimsy as paper getting in the way of our relationsh

The bed looked like it was king-sized with luxurious sheets while all the furniture seemed specifically chosen to go with the soft blue walls and white ceiling. It looked nice, like a place I could call home. The first thing I did after arriving home was call Thomas. He was beside himself with worry that I swore he cried for ten minutes after hearing my voice as I did my best to soothe him and explain what had happened. He explained that father had called him and that I’d been struck from the family records, so instead of just being handed over to Selene, I was no longer Eleonore Ev

Lillian’s POVEver since I was a child I was a proud person, I’d never deny that. Both of my parents had been rather affluent members of the pack, so I’d been proud of them and as a consequence of that, I became prideful of myself.I wanted to be someone as spectacular as them, so I held myself high and never looked back. There were times it got me into trouble, and I’d refuse to apologize, believing myself to be right.Sometimes they’d have to force me to apologize for a mistake I made when I was truly in the wrong—and I would, but Goddess did it hurt worse than pulling teeth when I had to.That should’ve been the first sign that maybe I had a bit too much pride, but it wasn’t like I didn’t work hard to have something to show for it, not just my parents’ accomplishments but my own.I had chosen to become a member of the Alpha’s guard. It was an extremely lofty position, very few people were able to acquire such a title. As a rambunctious kid who got into scraps and fights, I

Gabriel’s POVThere was something extremely upsetting about my little brothers being the ones to throw themselves straight into danger without hesitation and knowing there was no other option and that they were doing the right thing.I hated myself a little, but I had to trust them like they trusted me. Gael’s POVDamn Missael for being cool as fuck in the most stressful moment of our lives! It hurt to leave him behind, but he was right, we had to save Ellie. A bunch of half feral vampires, while a bit overwhelming, was probably going to be one of the easier fights in this place.Gabriel and I had to trust that Missael knew what he was doing and could take on those vampires. Finding the place was only possible thanks to our father. He narrowed down the location for us and with Missael with us, it wasn’t too hard to find a place inside the forest where there were people using his empathic gifts. He’d been doing most of the heavy lifting on his own ever since we started this trip and I was starting to feel a bit lacking. But I’d make up for it with a damn good rescue like Missael had trusted us to do.So, while he was taking care of the mooks, Gabriel and I ran through the strange castle manor, following the feel
