Chapter 29

Author: Jason Chord
"I won't take the 2.5 million dollars you're offering me, either. Let's put all five million dollars as an investment in your name. Would that be alright with you, Mr. and Mrs. Seymour?"

"We couldn't possibly do that, Matthew," Marion said. "It'll be at your expense."

Matthew replied, "Ella and I are such good friends. This means nothing to me. It's not like I need the money, either. I'd feel bad about taking 2.5 million dollars from you guys. Let's just invest everything to save you the trouble of having to put the money in the bank."

Arnold was a little hesitant. After all, five million dollars was a massive sum of money. He was a bit worried about handing everything over just like that.

"What's there for you to think about?" Marion questioned. "Matthew is clearly doing us a favor. We should be overjoyed. There's no reason for you to hesitate."

While speaking, she passed the box of cash to Matthew.

"Here. Take it all. We'll invest all five million dollars. I wish you all the be

"Ms. Mosley, I have received an urgent report!" Benny cried out as he came rushing up to Lavinia, who was in the Mayor's Mansion discussing something with Caius Grayson, the mayor of Goldspire. She shot Benny a look and said in displeasure, "Can't you see that I'm talking to Mr. Grayson? What's so important that it can't wait until we're done?"Benny lowered his head before saying, "I'm afraid it's something major, Ms. Mosley."Seeing that, Caius smiled and said, "It's alright. Ms. Mosley. Why don't we hear what it is? I doubt your guard would be impolite enough to interrupt us if it wasn't something serious."Thinking he had a point, Lavinia said, "Go on.""Ms. Mosley, we received an urgent report saying that Reaper, the ninth-ranking hitman on the hitman tier list, has come to Goldspire.""What?" Lavinia exclaimed. She was a little taken aback.Caius' expression stiffened as well. As the mayor of a major city like Goldspire, he was well-informed. The Hitman Guild was a dark do

Meanwhile, Gideon was at the lakefront, looking at the figure in black with keen interest. He chuckled and asked, "You seem strong, but I don't recognize you. Where are you from, or rather, who sent you?" "Tom," the man replied flatly. "Ah, I see. That fat pig's got some nerve to be still causing trouble," Gideon remarked.Reaper's gaze turned ice-cold. He stated, "Tom is my friend. Insulting him is insulting me, and doing so is a death sentence. "Take ten seconds to savor the sun and this world one last time because I'm sending you to meet your maker soon." Gideon laughed, genuinely entertained. "At least tell me who you are, so I don't die clueless.""Reaper—Ninth on the Hitman Guild's Shadow Ranking!""Hitman Guild?" Gideon pondered thoughtfully. He suddenly remembered the self-proclaimed King of Hitmen, Jeremy Boisclair, who ranked first in the Hitman Guild's Shadow Ranking. Jeremy had been caught and brought to Oasis Vale years ago, initially defiant but eventually b

"Staying in Goldspire was the right choice," Lavinia thought, her mood significantly improving. She even believed Dominic would change his mind in time and agree to help her deal with Tylland. She looked at Reaper's body again, her expression turning cold. "Take photos and send them through Cipher. Let the entire Hitman Guild know that Shadow Ranking's Number Nine, Reaper, has died." "Yes, Ms. Mosley!" her guards immediately complied.Poor Tom was still waiting for good news at his mansion, unaware that Reaper had already crossed to the other side.…Elsewhere, Gideon casually strolled into Snow Corporation, completely unbothered by his earlier encounter. Killing Reaper had been such an insignificant matter to him that he had not given it a second thought."Mr. Snow!" Fred greeted him as soon as he entered the building. Fred, now appointed as the company's CEO by Gideon, wielded considerable power and was immensely grateful for the promotion. The company had been on the brink

Gideon arrived with his entourage and surveyed the scene. Besides Eric, there were five other young men, all dressed in designer brands and wearing watches worth hundreds of thousands of dollars. They were clearly spoiled heirs from wealthy families. Fred leaned in and whispered, "We might have a problem. Those are the heirs from the Mackenzie, Winston, Campbell, Lane, and Torres families—all second-tier families with close ties to the Gross family."Gideon nodded slightly, understanding the situation.Meanwhile, Eric's laughter dripped with mockery. "Gideon, you finally decided to show yourself. I was starting to think you would hide like a coward." Gideon smirked. "After yesterday's beating, you should know better by now. Look at you. Your face is still swollen and bruised. Do you really think I'd back down?"Eric's face turned ashen, unable to respond. At that moment, Ivan Mackenzie stepped forward with a sneer. "Gideon, long time no see! I heard you've been farming for the

"Are you done laughing?" Gideon asked, causing Eric and his group to fall silent immediately. "If you're done, get out of my sight," Gideon continued. "And Eric, don't forget about the acquisition—tell your father to prepare the contract."Eric's face twisted in fury. "You've got some nerve, Gideon! Talking like you actually can do it. Well, I came here for two things today—first, to buy this worthless company, and second... to settle the score for what you did to me."At that moment, about 60 intimidating men burst into the lobby. Fred and the others paled instantly. They could tell at a glance that these men were clearly dangerous criminals and were far more than their 20 security guards could handle.Eric sneered, his tone dripping with malice as he said, "Since you're such a tough guy, Gideon, we brought some friends for you. These 58 gentlemen are hardened criminals with blood on their hands. I hope you don't disappoint them." In seconds, the thugs encircled Gideon, makin

At the same time, the young heirs of the Torres, Campbell, and other families received similar harsh scoldings from their fathers. The five men exchanged bewildered looks, uncertain of what was happening."What's going on, guys?" Eric asked in confusion, but they could only offer apologetic looks. "I'm sorry, Eric. There's an emergency at home. I need to go right away," Ivan said hurriedly. "Same here..."The others echoed similar excuses and quickly bolted out of the building with their hired muscle. What had been a crowd of 58 thugs now dwindled to just eight."Surround them!" Fred commanded quickly, and their 20 security guards encircled Eric and his remaining thugs. The tables had turned, bringing relief to the Snows, while Eric stood there dumbfounded, unable to understand why his allies had suddenly abandoned him."Fred, I'll let you handle this," Gideon said casually. "No problem," Fred replied with a cold smile. Though he did not know exactly how, he was certain Gid

"Ms. Avila, please follow me," Fred said, leading Rachel to Gideon's office without asking questions.Rachel pushed the door open and walked right in, calling out, "Gideon!"Fred's eyes flickered. Rachel's tone and attitude suggested an unusual relationship between her and Gideon. If Gideon had managed to win over Rachel, the Snow family's fortunes were about to change dramatically. The other members of the Snow family were equally intrigued, and someone eagerly asked Fred, "What's the story?""From what I can tell, he and Ms. Avila have a special relationship. This means we'll likely get support from the Avila family. Our revival is within reach, so let's get back to work—and don't worry about the Gross family. They're nothing now!""All hail Mr. Snow!" they cheered. At that moment, Gideon had completely solidified his position as the backbone of the Snow family. Inside the office, Gideon looked surprised and asked, "What brings you here?""If I hadn't shown up, you'd be cri

"At this rate, in a few years, we'll end up like your family—fallen from grace," Rachel said. However, she quickly realized her insensitivity and added, "Gideon, you were once Goldspire's business prodigy. With your talent, I'm sure you can revive the Snow family." "So you want me to take on the Yovarian Guild?" Gideon asked.Rachel gave a bitter laugh. "The Yovarian Guild is a massive organization. I doubt you could handle them, but my grandpa's letter said you could help, so I wanted to try.""What a hassle," Gideon mumbled as he rubbed his temples. While Rachel saw the Yovarian Guild as an unstoppable force, they were small fry to Gideon. He could have world-class powers crush them within an hour, but that was not his way. Natural selection and survival of the fittest were laws of nature that applied to human society, too. Using his power to destroy the Yovarian Guild just because of his connection to Rachel would make him no better than a murderer.Besides, Titus taugh

Lavinia threw a punch, but it failed to disperse the streak of light. Instead, the impact sent her plummeting back onto the city gate, her entire body wracked with pain.Just like that, the aircraft hatch closed. The one who made the move wasn't Gideon, nor was it Umbra or the others. It was Orabella."Sorry. She was too noisy. It's annoying." Orabella chuckled.Gideon remained resting with his eyes shut, as if none of it had anything to do with him.Lavinia, however, gritted her teeth. In that brief moment, she had caught a glimpse of the attacker's figure. It wasn't a man—it was a woman!Judging by her appearance, she wasn't very old. Yet, her strength was terrifyingly powerful. That left Lavinia deeply unwilling to accept defeat."Ms. Mosley! We have a response. The Cabinet has approved their passage. No one is to obstruct them."The quick reply surprised Lavinia. That, in itself, was proof that whoever was on that aircraft carried significant weight.Odin reassured her, "

"Ms. Mosley, are you sure about this?" Odin asked cautiously. "Using the Falcon missiles requires authorization from the Cabinet and the Ministry of Defense. If we use it without approval, I'm afraid…""There's no time!" Lavinia was resolute. Her gaze was sharp, and her voice was as firm as iron. "A foreign aircraft is forcing its way through our borders. If we don't intercept it, where will we put our dignity?"Today, it's one aircraft breaking through. Tomorrow, it'll be ten. The day after, a hundred! Are we going to let ourselves become an international joke?"We must intercept this aircraft no matter what. We'll first give out a warning. If it refuses to back down, then we'll use the Falcon missiles. Don't hesitate. If anything goes wrong, I'll take full responsibility!"With her words set in stone, no one dared to object. The outer-base forces were alerted immediately. All three Falcon missiles were primed and ready, waiting for the aircraft's arrival.Ten minutes later, rig

At that moment, an emergency meeting was being held. After receiving the secret message from Gideon, all the Cabinet Elders wore grim expressions. There was a mix of both shock and anger. The shock came from the sheer audacity of The Light Council, who actually planned to attack the border of the northern wilderness. The anger came from their blatant provocation of Dasovia!"Bastards!" Casse, who had a fiery temper, couldn't hold back. He slammed the table and cursed loudly, "That scum from The Light Council is asking for death! I propose we strike first and declare war on them!"Immediately, some of the Cabinet Elders voiced their agreement. However, Rocco said, "The Light Council isn't some small faction. It's the world's most mysterious and powerful force. You could even say it's an entire nation of its own."Lark nodded in agreement. "He's right. The Light Council's strength rivals that of any nation. They have countless powerful individuals, millions of troops, and high-tech

Azel clenched his fists so tightly that his knuckles popped, his eyes flashing with murderous intent.Gideon and Orabella walked farther and farther away.In the end, Azel didn't act recklessly. He had no choice but to lead his army in retreat.Seeing this, the dukes of Tylland also had no choice but to temporarily withdraw and reconsider their strategy.…Back at the mayor's mansion, Gideon tended to Martin's injuries. An hour later, Martin's condition finally stabilized, showing clear signs of improvement."Mr. Snow, thank you for saving my life. I have nothing to offer in return, but I swear my loyalty to you! I only hope you won't turn me away."Martin was a smart man. Gideon's sheer strength had left him in shock. He was so young and yet already at this level. His future was limitless. Moreover, Siward had been dropping hints along the way, revealing bits of information. Martin had grown increasingly intrigued by this mysterious, monstrous force of nature known as Gideon.

From Azel's current energy alone, it was clear that he was far stronger than before. He was qualified to be Gideon's opponent."Come on." Gideon's eyes flashed like lightning. His body tensed, his energy surging higher and higher. His energy was unlike Azel's. Azel's energy was cold and sinister, but Gideon's energy was blazing hot, causing the temperature to skyrocket. It was fire and ice.Their opposing energies clashed, generating literal sparks in the air, like something out of a movie. The spectacle was breathtaking."Stop!"At the last possible moment, Orabella descended. The scepter in her hand flared with radiant light as she swung it, slicing through the two clashing forces and separating them."Huh?" Azel, drowning in bloodlust, snapped back to reality. "Ms. Corthopp, what are you doing here?""Mr. Malemayn, first of all, congratulations on mastering the Slaughtering Arts! Secondly, pull back immediately. You know the side effects of that technique. Gideon spoke with such calm indifference that it made Azel seethe with rage. It was blatant, undisguised contempt."Who the hell are you?" Azel asked."Who I am doesn't matter. What matters is, how do we settle this?"As Gideon stood with his hands clasped behind his back, his face was as still as a deep lake. He spoke evenly, word by word, "How about this? Since you left Martin gravely injured, I'll do the same to you. Then, we'll call it even."Hearing this, Azel was so enraged that he laughed. "You're too arrogant! I didn't expect that besides Martin, his superior would show up, too."That's even better. I'll take you both down together and save myself the trouble.""Then, there's nothing more left to say."As soon as Gideon finished speaking, he began walking toward Azel like an ordinary man taking a casual stroll. It was another act of disdain."You're courting death!" Azel grabbed his spear and charged, leaping into the air before slamming down with full force. The air i

Continuous booms echoed in the sky. The savage clash sent chills down the spines of the soldiers, their eyes filled with deep reverence.Atop the city gates, Gideon and the others observed the battle. "Azel's got some real skill. And he's young, too. He must be a key prospect for The Light Council.""That's right." Orabella nodded. "He's a personal student of a veteran elder. He used to be an Episcopus, but he resigned and earned his place as a Legion Commander.""Now that you mentioned it, I'm really curious. Pope of Light holds you in such high regard, and you hold dual titles as the Episcoprie and the Legion Commander of the Regnandi Legion. You wouldn't happen to be the Pope's illegitimate daughter, would you?"Orabella shot him a cold, sidelong glance.Gideon chuckled. "I'm just joking. Don't take it to heart."His gaze returned to the battlefield. The two combatants were now going all out.Azel's spear techniques were exceptionally refined. Every thrust packed terrifying p

Azel Malemayn was the most bloodthirsty among The Light Council's top ten Legion Commanders. He was also young. Second only to Orabella, he was the second-youngest prodigy among the ten commanders. He carried a silver spear on his back. His eerie eyes glowed with an icy light as he spoke in a deep voice, "Send the message."If Martin surrenders and opens the city gates, we'll spare his life and give him a chance to serve The Light Council. If he refuses, we'll crush Saxum to the ground and slaughter every last soul!"After Martin revealed his mastery of the Eye Technique, The Light Council's interest in him skyrocketed, or rather, in his Eye Technique. If they could bring him under their command, all the better.A powerful presence surged forward as a duke approached the gates of Saxum, his voice booming, "Martin! I am Duke Royce Breckenridge. Come out and face me at once!""Your Grace, I've long heard of you. I never thought you'd come in person. I'm truly flattered." Atop the ci

"Has any other nation surpassed The Light Council in genetic research?" Gideon asked."Impossible!" Orabella's response was swift and confident. "Our research is the most advanced in the world. No other country has delved as deeply into this field as we have. That much is certain."We have the greatest minds, including a once-in-a-lifetime genius with an unmatched IQ.""Is that so?" Gideon's curiosity was piqued.A thought suddenly crossed his mind. "Right. What about the Spirale Clan? They specialize in advanced technology. Couldn't they have taken genetic research even further?""You think too far ahead. Just like their name suggests, the Spirale Clan excels at developing high-tech weaponry. But when it comes to biotechnology and genetics, that's not their strong suit.""I see." Then, he changed the subject. "Ms. Corthopp, any chance you'd take me on a tour of the genetic engineering facility?""In your dreams!" She scoffed.Gideon shrugged, not pressing the matter further.
