The full moon hung high in the midnight sky, bathing the Crescent Fang Pack’s territory in a silvery glow. The grand hall was alive with laughter, music, and the sound of glasses clinking, but Aria Nightshade felt none of the joy that filled the room.

She stood near the edge of the hall, watching the pack members revel in the glow of tradition. Her father, Alpha Darius, stood at the center, his commanding presence the heart of the celebration. His voice boomed with authority, laughing with the other alphas and betas who had come from neighboring territories.

Aria, dressed in a flowing silver gown meant to complement the moonlight, felt like a decorative statue, present only to be admired. Her wolf stirred uneasily within her, sensing her frustration.

“Smile, Aria,” her father had told her earlier. “Tonight isn’t just about the pack. It’s about showing strength to our allies. You represent us.”

Her smile, carefully practiced and painfully hollow, had lasted as long as she could manage. But now, as she stood against the wall, her chest tightened with a longing for freedom she couldn’t suppress. She didn’t want this life—this role as the Alpha’s obedient daughter, destined to marry a strong wolf for the benefit of the pack. She wanted more.

She wanted to choose.

“Aria.” A sharp voice snapped her from her thoughts. It was Marcus, her father’s loyal beta. His graying hair and weathered face carried years of service to the pack. “The Alpha is expecting you to meet Cedric tonight.”

Her stomach twisted at the mention of Cedric, the arrogant heir of the Shadowfang Pack. The thought of him made her wolf growl in distaste. “I just need some air,” she said, her voice clipped.

Marcus frowned but didn’t stop her. He knew better than to push her when she was in one of these moods.

Without another word, Aria slipped out of the hall and into the cool night. The forest loomed ahead, its darkness a welcome escape from the suffocating light of the celebration. She kicked off her heels, letting her bare feet sink into the soft earth before she shifted into her wolf form.

Her sleek silver wolf burst forth with a rush of freedom, her muscles tensing and relaxing as she bounded into the woods. The wind brushed against her fur, and the scents of pine and damp earth filled her nose. Here, under the open sky, she felt alive.

She ran until the music and laughter from the hall faded entirely. The forest enveloped her, its shadows a comforting embrace. Only then did she stop, panting softly as her wolf reveled in the quiet.

That’s when she smelled it.

An unfamiliar scent drifted on the breeze—pine, rain, and something distinctly male. Her wolf stilled, ears twitching as she scanned the shadows. The scent wasn’t from her pack. It was a stranger, a trespasser.

Her instincts sharpened as she followed the trail, moving silently through the trees. The scent led her to a small clearing where a young man sat on a fallen log. His dark hair was tousled, and his posture was relaxed, as though he had every right to be there.

Aria shifted back into her human form, her silver hair tumbling down her back as she stepped into the clearing. “You’re trespassing,” she said, her voice cold.

The man turned to face her, and the moment his piercing green eyes locked onto hers, Aria felt her breath hitch. There was something about him—something that made her wolf stir with curiosity rather than aggression.

“I didn’t mean to,” he said, standing slowly. His voice was deep and calm, with a hint of playfulness. “Just passing through. Didn’t realize this was Crescent Fang territory.”

“You’re lucky I found you,” she replied, crossing her arms. “My father’s patrols wouldn’t be so forgiving.”

“Good thing it was you, then,” he said with a crooked smile.

Aria frowned, unsure whether to be annoyed or intrigued. “Who are you?”

“Kian,” he said simply. “And you are?”

“Aria,” she said reluctantly.

“Ah,” Kian said, his grin widening. “The Alpha’s daughter. That explains the regal presence.”

She stiffened at the title, her frustration bubbling to the surface. “You shouldn’t be here,” she said sharply. “Leave. Now.”

Kian held her gaze, his expression softening. “You don’t have to carry it all, you know.”

Her eyes narrowed. “Carry what?”

“The weight,” he said, gesturing vaguely. “Of being who they expect you to be.”

Aria’s heart skipped a beat. How could he see through her so easily? She straightened, her walls going back up. “You don’t know anything about me.”

“Maybe not,” Kian admitted. “But I know what it’s like to feel trapped.”

The sincerity in his voice caught her off guard. For a moment, the tension between them faded, replaced by an unspoken understanding.

“You need to go,” she said again, though her voice was softer this time.

Kian nodded, taking a step back. “I’ll go. But something tells me this isn’t the last time we’ll meet, Aria.”

Before she could respond, he turned and disappeared into the shadows of the forest, leaving her standing alone in the clearing.

As she made her way back to the pack house, her thoughts were consumed by the green-eyed stranger. She told herself she would forget him, that he was nothing more than a rogue passing through.

But deep down, she knew he had left an impression on her that she couldn’t ignore.

The days following Aria’s encounter with Kian felt like an endless loop of tension and longing. The weight of her father’s expectations, her looming engagement to Cedric, and her role as the Alpha’s daughter consumed her, but in the back of her mind, there was always the memory of that strange meeting in the forest. The scent of pine and rain, the electric feeling when Kian’s eyes met hers—it all lingered in her thoughts. Her life had always been predictable. She had always known her place in the pack, known what was expected of her. But Kian had disrupted that, bringing with him a rawness, a freedom she couldn’t ignore. He was nothing like the polished, calculating wolves who made up her father’s circle. He was untamed, free. And there was something about him—something she didn’t fully understand—that made her heart race whenever she thought about him. It was early evening when the pull was too strong to ignore. The pack was gathered for another training session, and Cedric was al

Aria avoided the forest for the next few days, burying herself in training and pack duties to distract from the lingering memory of Kian. She told herself it was for the best. Whatever pull existed between them was dangerous, a threat to the delicate balance her father had worked so hard to maintain. But no amount of sword drills or strategy lessons could erase the vivid green of Kian’s eyes from her mind. He had seen her in a way no one else had, and it terrified her. Worse, it thrilled her.The tension came to a head during the weekly council meeting. The pack’s elders gathered in the great hall to discuss alliances and territory disputes, and Aria was required to sit beside her father as an observer.“Shadowfang is expecting an answer soon, Alpha,” said Marcus, the beta, his tone serious. “Cedric’s proposal strengthens the southern border and ensures protection for both packs.”Aria tensed at the mention of Cedric. She found herself slipping away again, her feet moving before her mind had fully decided. She tried to push the memories aside, but the pull between them lingered, a thread tying her to him no matter how much she resisted.Training with Cedric that morning didn’t help. His smug confidence grated on her nerves more than usual.“You’re distracted,” Cedric said, blocking her strike with ease and stepping closer to press his advantage. The pack’s energy was tense, almost suffocating. Aria could feel the weight of Cedric’s words settling like a stone in the pit of her stomach. Whispers had spread through the pack like wildfire—rumors about Kian, the rogue she had been seen with, and Cedric’s triumphant proclamation of his supposed threat.Aria found herself in her father’s office, standing before him like a child awaiting judgment. The normally commanding Alpha Darius looked weary, his features tight with disappointment and concern.“You’ve put us all in a difficult position, Aria,” Darius said, his voice low but stern. “Do you understand that?”Aria crossed her arms, her wolf bristling under the reprimand. “Kian isn’t a threat, Father. Cedric’s blowing this out of proportion.”Darius stopped pacing and leaned heavily on the edge of his desk, his piercing eyes locking onto hers. “It’s not just about Kian. It’s about your judgment. You’re the Alpha’s daughter. Your actions reflect on the pack.”“I didn’t do anything w

The packhouse buzzed with tension, an unspoken anxiety gripping the air like a storm waiting to break. Aria could feel it in the glances exchanged by her packmates, in the way voices dropped to whispers when she entered the room. Kian’s presence had become more than just a point of contention—it was a spark threatening to ignite the fragile peace within the pack. At the heart of the discord stood Cedric, emboldened by the turmoil. His voice carried through the main hall as he addressed a group of young wolves. Aria lingered at the edge of the room, her wolf restless as she listened. “This rogue is a danger to all of us,” Cedric said, his voice firm and laced with authority. “He’s already caused division in our pack, and if we let him, he’ll bring chaos to our borders. We have to protect what’s ours.” Several wolves nodded in agreement, their expressions hardened. “And what about Aria?” a younger wolf asked hesitantly. “She seems to think he’s not a threat.” Cedric’s lips curled i

Cedric paced the edge of the training grounds, his boots grinding into the dirt as his wolf stirred with restless energy. The moonlight bathed the open space in a silvery glow, but it brought him no comfort. His mind churned with frustration, replaying the events of the last few weeks like a cruel loop. Every time he closed his eyes, he saw Aria—her defiance, her fiery words, and, worst of all, the way she looked at Kian. That rogue. That nobody. "She's making a fool of you, Darius," he muttered to himself, though the Alpha wasn’t there to hear. He stopped pacing and ran a hand through his hair, trying to shake the feeling gnawing at him. It wasn’t just Aria’s blatant defiance that bothered him; it was the way the pack had started whispering. The way some of the younger wolves looked to her as if her actions were brave instead of reckless. "You're letting her ruin everything," Cedric muttered again, this time louder. His wolf growled in agreement, clawing at the edges of his min

The forest hummed with the quiet life of the night—crickets chirping, leaves whispering in the breeze, and the occasional rustle of unseen animals. Aria and Kian sat close together in their usual clearing, the moonlight casting a silvery glow over their features. Despite the peaceful surroundings, tension hung thick in the air, weighing on both of them. Kian’s green eyes glimmered as he stared into the fire they had built. He poked at it absentmindedly with a stick, the flames dancing in response. Aria watched him carefully, noting the way his jaw tightened and his shoulders stiffened. “You’re quiet tonight,” she said softly, breaking the silence. He glanced at her briefly before returning his gaze to the fire. “Just thinking.” Aria tilted her head, her curiosity piqued. “About what?” Kian hesitated, his lips pressing into a thin line. For a moment, she thought he might brush her off, but then he sighed and set the stick aside. “About us,” he admitted. Her heart skipped a beat

The sun dipped below the horizon, casting long shadows across the dense forest that bordered the pack's territory. In the quiet isolation of his quarters, Cedric paced back and forth, his mind a storm of resentment and ambition. He had spent years proving his loyalty to Alpha Darius, rising through the ranks with unwavering dedication. Yet now, with the alpha hesitating over the fate of Aria and Kian, Cedric saw an opportunity—a chance to claim the power he believed was rightfully his. He paused by the window, watching the patrols move through the trees like silent wraiths. Their vigilance had doubled since Aria's capture, and Cedric couldn't help but sneer. "All this for a girl blinded by rogue love," he muttered under his breath. He clenched his fists, the claws barely restrained beneath his skin. If Darius continued to waver, the pack would need a leader who could act decisively—someone like him. Cedric turned from the window and sat at his desk, spreading out a worn map of the

He sat up, running a hand through his disheveled hair, heart pounding in his chest.Across the holding chamber, the dull light filtering through the narrow window barely illuminated the stark walls. The meal tray from the previous evening sat untouched on the small table—he had been too restless to eat. Kian’s wolf stirred within him, restless and eager, as though sensing that the dream was more than mere imagination.“She’s real,” Kian muttered to himself, voice hoarse. “That was real.”Before he could sink further into contemplation, the heavy iron door creaked open, and Beta Lorne stepped inside, his expression guarded. “The Alpha wants to see you. Now.”Kian nodded, pushing to his feet. There was no point in resisting—not that he intended to. His mind was already racing, formulatin

Aria sat frozen on the edge of the cot, heart pounding as her father closed the door behind him. Alpha Darius stood there for a moment, silent, as if weighing the words he was about to speak. His broad shoulders slumped ever so slightly—a rare crack in the unyielding facade she had known her entire life. “We need to talk,” he repeated, his voice firm but lacking its usual sharpness. Aria swallowed hard and nodded, forcing herself to meet his gaze. She had faced countless challenges—training, diplomacy, and the expectations of being an Alpha’s daughter—but nothing had prepared her for this moment. For the first time, it felt like father and daughter stood on opposite sides of an uncrossable chasm. Darius stepped forward, the soft creak of leather boots against the wooden floor filling the silence. He pulled a chair from the corner and sat down across from her, elbows resting on his knees. The stern lines of his face softened as he studied her, and Aria couldn’t help but notice how

He clenched his fists, grounding himself in the present, trying to hold on to the dream for just a moment longer. But the cold, damp walls of his holding cell were nothing like the moonlit fields where he had held her. The dream was slipping away, the warmth of her body replaced by the unyielding chill of reality. He cursed under his breath. It felt real. Too real.He pressed his hands against his face, inhaling sharply. The dream wasn’t just a fantasy—it was something more. It had to be. The moon realm was whispered about in old werewolf lore, a place where fated mates could find each other across any distance.Did she dream of me too?The thought filled him with equal parts hope and desperation. Cedric paced in his quarters, his mind a battlefield of strategy and ambition. The flames in the hearth cast flickering shadows across the stone walls, mirroring the turmoil within him. The pack was waiting. Watching. And Alpha Darius was failing them.Too much time had passed. The Alpha should have acted swiftly—condemned Kian, put Aria in her place, and moved forward. Instead, he hesitated. And that hesitation was a weakness Cedric intended to exploit. He clenched his fists, his nails biting into his palms. A true leader does not hesitate. A true leader commands. And soon, he would be that leader. He strode to the window, looking out over the village below. The pack had been restless ever since Aria had returned. Aria sat on the edge of the bed, staring at the soft glow of the lantern flickering against the stone walls. The chamber was not a prison—not truly. Guards stood outside, ensuring she remained here until her fate was decided. The room itself was comfortable, almost too much so. The room was quiet now, save for the crackling of the hearth and the occasional rustle of parchment beneath his hands. But even as he signed off on trade agreements and reviewed border patrol reports, his mind remained elsewhere. On her. Aria. He hadn’t spoken to her since that fateful meeting in the grand hall, since she had stood beside the rogue and defied everything she had been raised to believe. He had given the order for her to be placed in holding—not as a prisoner, but as a precaution. Her accommodations were comfortable, but she was still isolated. The question gnawed at him: Should I go to her? Should he face his daughter now, or should he wait for the legal proceedings to unfold? If he saw her, what would he say? Would she even listen?
