The day had passed as a mixture of confusion and panic for Ella. Blake’s words had been running through her mind over and over again. Unfortunately, nothing much changed because the facts were exactly the same. The lawyer’s visit had also cemented her resolve to recover her property when she assembled a file of Ella’s documents and a trail of her correspondence and money transfers between Ella and her half brother Kevin. At the end of the reflection, Ella had decided to accept Blake’s term. She consoled herself with the realisation that she did not have many friends or family members to visit.
However, it was regrettable that Ella would not be able to pursue her career under the said conditions. She had brought up the issue with the lawyer, who had responded by explaining that Blake would give Ella a monthly allowance in addition to his legal assistance in acquisition of her property. Ella was wary about this situation because she was going to be at the mercy of a stranger for the foreseeable future. This was not the homecoming she had envisioned.
On the other hand, the day had been going remarkably well for Jason. He had followed Ella around like a little puppy all day long. He had asked her all sorts of questions and told her uncoordinated stories, as he invited her to play with him. They had eaten, played, read and walked around together all day long. Jason had been upset for a brief period of time when Rose attempted to bath him and exclude Ella. The episode had ended with Ella coming into the room to calm down Jason. He had been a bit more clingy than before after his bath, and he had ended up cuddling with Ella for most of the evening. This was how Blake found them that evening.
“How was his day?” Blake asked as soon as he walked in. Jason was fast asleep on Ella’s lap.
“He is ok now. He was upset earlier,” Ella said.
“What happened?” Blake asked. Before Ella could answer, Jason was awake. He smiled at his father but cuddled deeper into Ella’s arms.
“Say hi to daddy Jason,” Ella said to him gently. Jason stood slowly and hugged Blake before running back to Ella.
“Maybe we can talk later,” Ella said as Blake looked at Jason with worry.
“Good idea,” Blake said. The trio had an awkward dinner together in silence and then Ella put Jason to bed. Ella had just changed into her pyjamas when Blake knocked on the door.
“Let’s talk,” he said as he gestured to Ella to step outside.
“I don’t want any trouble with your girlfriend,” Ella said as Blake walked towards his bedroom.
“I don’t have a girlfriend, and for your information, Jason and I are the only people you should answer to in this house,” Blake said as he held the door open. Ella walked into the bedroom with some apprehension. She knew she would have to sleep with Blake eventually but she was not ready yet. Blake walked to an arm chair and sat down. Ella followed his lead and sat down on the seat across from him.
“Tell me how Jason’s day was,” Blake said. Ella went through everything in as much detail as possible. She had every intention to prolong this conversation in the hope that she could have one more night with her dignity intact.Blake nodded when she ran out of words to fill the conversation.
“Did you decide whether you want to activate the exit clause?” Blake asked.
“No. I think we can continue,” Ella said nervously.
“I”m guessing you showered already,” Blake said. The look in his eyes had changed, and it was obvious what he wanted.
“Yes but…,” Ella started. She didn’t get to finish her statement because Blake stood up and took her hand. This forced her to stand as well and they were soon facing each other. Blake gently caressed Ella’s cheek and ran his hand through her hair. Ella did not know how to react and she was frozen to the spot.
“I love your scent,” Blake said as he pulled her closer and kissed her. Ella’s first instinct was to push Blake away but she forced herself to kiss him back. The next hour passed faster than either of them noticed, and after, Ella walked back to Jason’s room and saw that he was still fast asleep. She then walked to her bedroom for a quick shower before she cried herself to sleep. She had no idea how she was going to live this way indefinitely.

“Why are you not taking my calls?” Amanda asked herself as she scrolled through her call log. Blake was not big on small talk but he always answered her calls fast. It was especially rare for him to ignore her at this time of the day because he encouraged conversation between Amanda and Jason. But it was different this time. Blake had asked her not to come to his house or to call him because he was going to be busy. However, she had been reliably informed that he was home already. He had ignored all her calls and she was now angry. Her next call was to Dora. Amanda’s agitation increased as Dora took her time before answering her call. Dora finally received the call after the second call back.
“What do you want? I just got into bed,” Dora said.
“Where is Blake?” Amanda asked.
“In his bedroom,” Dora said.
“And where is Rose?” Amanda asked. She had always suspected Rose, who was always sniffing around Blake. She also seemed too polished and intelligent to be a nanny.
“She’s asleep too. She went ages ago because she was angry at the new girl. Jason won’t let anyone else near him,” Dora said.
“The new girl? What is her job description? Did you find out?” Amanda asked. She needed to know who was a threat to her position in Blake’s life. She was not about to look for a job while she was comfortable to have Blake financing her lifestyle.
“Jason is all she does. She just spends time with him. I want to sleep. Don’t call me again,” Dora said then hung up.
Amanda looked at the phone in disbelief. She clicked and threw her phone on the bed. Dora was getting too big headed. It was time to clip her wings. But now, it was time to get back into Blake’s good books. Amanda changed into a provocative set of lingerie and then she took plenty of photos. She sent them to Blake in quick succession and then ended with a message requesting him to video call her. She sat watching her phone for a few minutes as she waited for Blake’s response. She soon got bored when nothing happened. Ten minutes later, Amanda’s messages had been seen but to her chagrin, there was no response. She tried to video call Blake but his phone was no longer online. Amanda got into bed with rage. Blake was going to pay for ignoring her.

Blake was lying in his bed reliving the time he had just spent with Ella. He could tell that this kind of arrangement was new to her, by the way she had been nervous and bordering on fright. He could still taste her lips on his as he remembered her petal soft kisses. He lay in bed and inhaled as smiled. The air in the room was heavy with the scent of Ella’s body. There was also a lingering characteristic smell of the spent passion of two adults making love. Despite the intense energy that Blake had just spent, he couldn’t bring himself to sleep.
There was one thing that was bothering Blake intensely. He had thought that tonight would be a one time thing with Ella. His plan was to satisfy himself with her so that the wild desire that he had felt when he first saw her would pass. However, after making love to her for the first time, the opposite had happened.
“I should go check on Jason,” Ella had said as they lay in bed after making love. She was reaching for her pyjama pants and flannel shirt but he had different plans for her. He held her waist and pulled her back to him. “I haven’t had enough,” he said.
She barely looked at him as he made love to her again. The second time had been extremely energetic for Blake, and he had fallen asleep soon after. He had woken up just in time to see Ella tip toe out of the room and close the door.
Ella had been everything he had wanted and more physically. Her curves were more defined than she appeared with her clothes on. She was also extremely beautiful up close. He still wasn’t sure what it was that drew him to her. He could see how hard tonight had been for her but he had no plan to change anything. Infact, he planned to elevate the restrictions on her. He could not imagine her pleasing another man the way she had pleased him. Blake could not explain the feeling he had felt when they were together. He was trying to wrap his head around his new found obsession when a string of alerts drew his attention to his cell phone. He glanced at his phone and ignored yet another call from Amanda. Afterwards, he unlocked his screen and took a look at the photos Amanda had sent. He exited from the photos and placed a call to his trusted communication aide.
“Sir, it’s pretty late. Is everything alright?” the specialist asked.
“I’m sending you a number. I want to have details of all the conversations that take place. Include emails as well,” Blake said.
“Yes sir. Are you looking for anything in particular?”
“No but I want to know everything about her. Especially check her social media handles,” Blake added.
“As you please sir.”
Blake then locked his phone and slipped deeper into the beddings. Tomorrow, he would make sure that no one ever came close to Ella. She was his and only his now.
It was 6 am at the Raymond household. Rose was the first worker to wake up as usual. She had spent a good part of the night researching Ella but she had come up with nothing suspicious or incriminating. Her best investigative skills did not turn up anything that she could use to make Blake throw out the new girl. She was as white as snow. Rose had resigned herself to the fact that all she had left was to rebuild her relationship with Jason, if she had any chance of retaining her job. That was why she was up so early to bake him some brownies. As Rose was baking, Dora was getting a head start on her chores. She had cleaned all the common areas and was setting up the dinner table. Her sleep had been cut short this morning by Amanda’s incessant calls. She had managed to get a short break by blocking her calls. Her relief was short-lived as Amanda had called using a different number. Her instructions were enough to drive all traces of sleep out of Dora’s head. Dora had been instructed to
“Would you like to order anything else?” a young petite waitress asked Kevin. She had served him and his companion breakfast, and she was now clearing up the table after their meal. “No thank you,” Kevin said as he paid the bill. As usual, he gave a generous tip and left the small restaurant. He walked around the town leisurely as he looked at the white buildings that lined both the sides of the narrow street. The houses all looked the same as they were made of coral stone, and the only thing that set them apart was the huge uniquely carved doors. Kevin had come here because it was the best place to unwind without worry of meeting someone who would recognize him. He needed a break from reality.“I want more beer,” the girl who was on Kevin’s side said. She startled him as he had forgotten she was there.“Ok. Can we go to a different pub? Which one plays better music?” he asked. He was getting bored here and he thought of relocating to the bigger coastal island. The night life was muc
Ella looked at the date on her phone calendar and she gasped in surprise. It would soon be three months since she had moved in with Blake and began their arrangement. Ella had been a nervous wreck at the beginning, but she eventually developed a coping mechanism that was working for her. The main source of her serenity had come when she had learnt not to judge herself too harshly. Despite this, many things about the arrangement still confused her. Behind closed doors, Blake was a sweet and sensitive lover. He had learnt how to get Ella to respond to his touch and they had both begun to enjoy their time together. However, everything changed when morning came. Blake would change from the flirty man who seduced Ella every night, and turned into an extremely polite boss with Ella. At times, he even bordered on aloofness. On the other hand, Jason was thriving like a flower in spring. He had regained his speech completely and was doing well in school. Ella had enjoyed daily drives outside
“Good morning,” said the tall dark man that was towering over Ella. She was at a small coffee house having a moccalata and chocolate cake. This had become one of her favourite places to utilise her free hours. “Good morning,” she replied in surprise as the man took the seat across from her. Ella looked around the coffee shop and she could see several empty tables. She didn’t understand why the man had chosen to join her. The waiter came over and took his order before he turned his attention back to her. “I’m sorry to bother you but this is my table. I always sit here when I'm having my morning coffee,” he said.“That’s ok. I can move,” Ella said as she began to rearrange her things.“Please don’t move darling. To be honest, I’ve seen you here a couple of times and I think you are beautiful. I want to get to know you better,” he said. Ella almost gasped when she realised just how perfect his smile was. It looked like something out of a toothpaste commercial. “Was that a pick up line
Eddie Carter jumped into his double cab pickup truck and drove to work. He took one last glance at the beauty whom he had just been chatting up and smiled. They all claimed to be taken but he knew that this was every woman’s way of playing hard to get. Ella was a real natural beauty. Her oval face made her big eyes that were surrounded by long eyelashes stand out in a crowd. Her tiny nose made her look dainty and her full lips looked like they were begging to be kissed. But this wasn’t the thing that had caught his attention. Several days ago, Ella had walked into the coffee shop and walked to the counter. She made her order and then settled in a corner seat. Eddie had to admit that her figure had caught his attention right away. She was wearing tight blue jeans and a fitting blouse. Although she had an ample bust, her hips drove him crazy the minute he spotted her. He watched her scroll through her phone as she waited for her order and he knew he had to make a move. The waitress soon
Blake watched Ella as she timidly walked to the bathroom. As soon as she closed the door, he walked to the other bedroom to take a quick shower. He had been livid with anger when David had told him that she was having coffee with an unknown man. The photos he had received showed Ella smiling as she played with her hair. She had never been that flirty or relaxed with him even when they lay naked in bed together. The photos had taken him back to a dark place in his life. He remembered countless reports of his ex wife being spotted in various establishments with different men. He had tried everything from threatening her to withholding money but it had only fuelled her hobby. She would always make time for her clandestine activities. She never cared about his reputation or what this looked like for their marriage. After all, she knew that as long as Jason needed her, Blake could never get rid of her. He had always wanted to instil some fear in her, but he had never been able to do this.
Ella walked to her room trembling. When she closed the door behind her, she lost the strength in her knees and sank to the floor. It had felt good to tell Blake off and let out the tension and anger that had piled up in her heart. She had endured humiliation, degradation, and all sorts of subtle abuses in the last three months. She had never slept hungry or wanted for anything, but the last few days of freedom had made it clear that there was so much more to life. But then she wondered about what she had just done. Ella had told Blake that she wanted to leave and that she would forfeit everything. So how was she going to survive? She had no job and her monthly allowance would at most secure her a rental unit. ‘What I’m I thinking? Is this the same allowance that I told Blake to recover?’ Ella said to herself as she tapped herself on the forehead. As she changed into her sleeping clothes, she thought of another part of the conversation that was disturbing her. He had said that he was i
Hurlingham is a quiet and well planned section of the city centre that is hidden far from the hustle and bustle of the main city. This section of town is filled with property owned by the wealthiest people in the city, and the businesses in this section of the city targeted them. Kevin had this thought in mind when he had chosen a fancy pub to eat and drink in Hurlingham. He was tired of drinking with people who just wanted his money. He wanted to form a different kind of circle. The last few months had been hard on him, and he thought he was due for some relaxation.Everything had started going wrong when he had been robbed at Lamu. He had tried to track down the men who claimed to be affiliated to the governor, but no one would offer him any help. The next day, he had taken the first flight back to the city. After a few days of partying with old friends, he had gone to the village to check on his wife and children. When he didn’t find them, he walked around the neighbourhood trying
“Dad, if you were in my shoes what would you do to your parents?” Blake asked when they were left alone.“Son, it’s been a long day. Let me go and get checked by a real professional. We can discuss other things later,” Aurelia said.“Your daughter in law just saved your life yet you cannot give her the slightest bit of respect?” Mr Raymond asked.“I don’t have a daughter in law. Besides, I didn’t ask her to touch me with her filthy hands,” Aurelia said. Blake’s eyes turned ice cold.“Your stinking attitude just made things much easier for me mum. As of two hours ago, your passport has been recalled and you no longer have diplomatic immunity. There are some people outside who will escort you out
“What is the meaning of this?” Aurelia asked.‘Have a seat mum,” Blake said as he sat down and pulled Ella on the seat next to him. His parents sat down reluctantly while Blake dismissed the security personnel.“Mum, please meet the governor Richard and his girlfriend Jessica. I’m sure you have met Kevin before,” Blake said.“I have never seen that man in my life,” Aurelia said haughtily.“Well, let me play a little video that will help you jog your memory,” Blake said. The tv switched on to show Rose, Kevin and Aurelia in a luxury hotel having dinner in a private room. Their conversation revolved around building a solid case that would ensure that Ella was put behind bars. Ella was so shocked that s
The VIP lounge at the airport had suddenly turned to a buzz as a certain celebrity came into the country. Mrs Aurelia Raymond took advantage of the chaos to slip out of the lounge and into the company of Rose. Aurelia had spotted one of Blake’s men waiting for her but she wanted to bypass him so she could communicate with Rose without any interception.“Why did you take so long?” Rose asked irritably.“I think you have forgotten who I am, young lady. I don’t owe you any explanations,” Aurelia said. She took out her compact kit and began dusting her face.“I’m sorry madam. I’m just a little anxious,” Rose said as she rolled her eyes. If it wasn’t for the fact that she had been unable to infiltrate the Raymonds finances then she wouldn
“What do you want to do today?” Richard asked Jessica. They had returned to the hotel room after the buffet breakfast and Jessica was reading a book.“I thought I would buy some gifts for the children,” Jessica said.“Ok. I’ll come with you,” Richard said.“Are you not going to visit Eddie?” Jessica asked.“We can go in the afternoon,” Richard said.“I wanted to talk to you about something,” Jesssica said.“I’m listening.”“I was just wondering what you did with Kevin,” Jessica said. Richard’s face darkened and
It was the weekend and Tokodi and Tracy woke up mid morning. They showered together and changed, then packed all of Tracy’s things and headed home. Tracy was eager to open her gifts and she began to do so. Each gift was thoughtful and impressive and Tracy ended up showering Tokodi with many kisses. By the time she opened all the gifts, Tokodi was feeling like the king of the universe. He helped Tracy to unpack and arrange her jewellery, clothes and appliances that he had bought her. Tracy looked as happy as a child eating ice cream, and she even shed a few tears when Tokodi said that he had bought all those gifts to celebrate their engagement. Later that afternoon, Tokodi went out to buy some groceries and toiletries while Tracy cleaned up the house. He had been itching to leave the house so that he could attend a meeting with Blake.Tokodi had woken up that morning and taken Blake’s numb
Back at the Raymond residence, there was confusion and excitement amongst the staff. Only one driver was aware of when Ella had returned, and he explained how he had simply picked her up from an apartment complex. He had been with the Raymond family for years and he knew how to be discreet while releasing just enough information to generate some counter intelligence. The man could clearly recall the animated conversation which he had subsequently narrated to Blake.“Are you sure you picked her up from an apartment? I was there when the police dragged her out of the house. Blake must have picked her up from a police station,” Dora said. She had come downstairs with rage and explained to the other staff members how Blake’s criminal ex-wife had sneaked back into the house.“We picked her up at a middle class estate. I don&
“You are a really good dancer,” Tokodi said to Tracy when she returned from the dance floor. She took a large gulp of her drink and sat down.“You should join me for the next one,” Tracy said as she tapped her foot in rhythm to the music.“I have two left feet,” Tokodi said as he watched the flushed look on Tracy’s face. They had decided to enter this night club when Tracy heard the invigorating music from outside. He was accompanying her as she went to pick up her things from the serviced apartment she had been staying at.“How do you get sleep with this noise?” Tokodi asked. The serviced apartment was adjacent to the club and the walls were literally vibrating because of the beat.&ldqu
“Is everything okay?” Jessica asked Richard. He was staring at his phone during breakfast and had barely touched his food.“I’ve been trying to call Eddie since last night. The phone keeps ringing and he doesn’t respond,” Richard said.“That is odd. Do you think maybe he left the phone in his car? It’s still early in the morning and he may not have noticed,” Jessica said. Richard shook his head in disagreement.“He doesn’t usually leave his phone unattended. His work calls come in at all times of the day,” Richard said.“Maybe I should call Ella. She may know where it is since they work together and they are dating,” Jessica said. Richard nodded in approval and Jessica removed her phone f
Ella woke up feeling confused in her new home with Blake. She stirred out of sleep and looked around the elegant bedroom tastefully furnished with brown and white hues. She sat up wondering how she had ended up in bed while all she could remember was drinking milk and eating cookies at the sofa.Ella took a cold shower and dressed as she wondered If Eddie and Bryer were ok. She looked around and could not see any of the bloody clothes from the day before. Ella used the brand new toiletries that had been laid out and she finished getting ready. She was feeling a little hungry and wondered what time it was. There was no clock in the bedroom and she still had no idea where her phone was. Her phone had been in her handbag which had remained in Eddie’s car. Tracy felt tears fill her eyes when she remembered how Eddie had been shot. She had never known that Blake could be so violent and cruel. The mem
