The whole room became quite entirely quiet after Zane made that announcement; everyone was too shocked to say anything for the time being.
"When are the other Alphas arriving? or aren't they supposed to be here already?" Zane asked nonchalantly.
No one replied they were all still trying to understand what he just finished earlier. Then Ace spoke up.
"Can you repeat what you said earlier? About my sister being your mate or something like that?"Ace said in anxiety.
"I said that your sister is my mate and she would leave with me immediately we settle the matters concerning the division of the pack. Does any one of you have a problem with that? He asked in a grumpy voice.
"Zane or whatever you call yourself!!! Who do you think you are, coming into our pack uninvited and claiming my sister to be your mate!! Not only did you say something so outrageous, you even went further to declare that she would be leaving with you. How dare you??"Ace growled in anger.
"All this shouting and growling is of no use, my mind is made up already, immediately we divide the land, I'm leaving here with my mate and that's final," Zane replied standing up and leaving the room.
Shirley sat on her bed, packing her things into a suitcase, tears flowing freely from her eyes. She couldn't believe how her life took a different direction automatically, it was only last week that she was discussing with her friends, though she wished for a mate, but this wasn't really what she was expecting. She smiled in anguish when she remembered the event of last week......
***FLASHBACK, 1 WEEK AGO***
“I can't believe you're mated to Liam,” Rosie remarked, sipping her wine and expressing her feelings. "So, you'll be spending the rest of your life with him."
“Shirley is to thank for this. I still can't believe it." Hana responded with a flushed face.
“Awwn, it didn't matter; I was just a tool for Mother Nature, and whether I assisted or not, fate was unavoidable,” Shirley said cheerfully
“We wouldn't have met, let alone become friends if you hadn't coerced me into attending his birthday party against my will. It would have taken us a long time to discover each other, or we might not have discovered each other at all, leaving us to be apart for the rest of our lives,” She encircled Shirley in a tight hug and kissed her on the cheek. “Shirley, I will be eternally thankful to you.”
Shirley was teased by Rosie since she and Liam used to date. “Life is a ride on a roller coaster.”
“Because she was unaware of my relationship with Liam, I expected Hana's countenance to change when Rosie mentioned that we used to date, but she surprised me by hugging me even tighter,” Shirley explained.
"Really?" "Tell me everything," Hana exclaimed, "don't leave out a single detail!" She appears to be anxious to hear the story and appears to be quite interested in it. “Please tell me about his likes and dislikes, as well as his overall demeanor, so that we can get along real quick.”
She did not show any hint of jealousy as though finding that one of her best friends had dated her mate was nothing out of the ordinary for her. If Shirley didn't know Hana well, she'd suppose she's pretending to be joyful and hiding her jealousy, but she doesn't seem to be bothered by the past.
"It's nothing serious," Shirley began, but Hana cut her off in the middle of her sentence.
“Nothing is conceivable.” she stated, "It's a big deal because it involves you, my dear friend, I'd want to hear a more detailed version of the entire story.” She said, eagerly waiting to hear the entire love story of Shirley and Liam.
When Shirley didn't say anything, she asked Rosie to give her the whole gist, since she knows Rosie will not leave any facts out, which is why Rosie's nickname is ‘the broadcaster’. She is very quick to receive and provide updates.
"Aren't you envious?" Shirley enquired about Hana's beaming since it struck her as unusual.
She made an unusual noise. "You're funny, Shirl; whatever you two had in the past is history, and I'm pleased he dated you back then; I won't have to worry about ex-girlfriends showing up with unrequited love," she added. "Moreover, I trust you enough to know that there is no reason for me to be jealous, even if you guys still have feelings for each other, which I'm sure you don't because you wouldn't have introduced us..." She continued with her statement.
Shirley could hear her sincerity and see it in her eyes as she talked. The eyes, unlike the lips, cannot be deceived.
"I promise not to do anything that may cast doubt on your integrity."
"Thank you for putting your complete trust in me," Shirley murmured, her voice tinted with passion.
"No, I should be thanking you for keeping him engaged and preventing him from kissing a bunch of frogs or, in our case, Foxes, and, most significantly, for bringing us together; it is the best gift I have ever received." Hana squeezed her shoulder in thanks.
"Enough of the stupid feelings, girls," Rosie shouted weakly. She was almost in tears.
“That's okay now, come on." Hana wiped away her tears and assumed a more solemn tone. Returning to the topic at hand, she commanded Rosie to share every "nothing" detail of their love lives. “Make assured that no detail, no matter how little you imagine it to be, is ignored.”
“When their pack's Alpha died two years ago, Liam took over as Alpha. He was simply a regular guy who went to the same school as us before becoming Alpha, and he wasn't even that popular. " Shirley got things rolling.
“Liam, the current Alpha and also your mate, Ace, the Beta (Shirley's older brother), and Jakob, the Beta (Shirley's younger brother), We had a gang that included me (Rosie), Shirley, and Emily, Liam's younger sister. Our organization had six members, and they dubbed ourselves the Formidable Six since everyone was frightened of us. Because we were so close, we were always seen together.”
Rosie went on to give details of how their friendship began, and how their affection and chemistry grew over time until it reached the level of a full-fledged romance.
When she got to the part where Shirley was sixteen and Liam was around eighteen, everyone assumed they were mates because they were so close and almost inseparable at the time; it surprised everyone when they found out they weren't mates; Shirley didn't have to listen any longer because the event was unfolding in front of her eyes; it felt like she went back in time or the same thing is happening right now.
How did you feel when you knew you weren't his mate?" Hana asked Shirley.
“I was upset at first, but I got over it, and we've remained great friends to this day. " Shirley told it just how it was.
“Liam did not let her drift away from him, and he maintained a cordial relationship with her because, after his partner, she was his second favorite person," Rosie interjected to make a point.
And the girls went on and on talking about Liam all night long, it was such a beautiful night.
***END OF FLASHBACK***
Shirley couldn't believe that this happened just a week ago, they were so happy, playful, and content with their lives then and just under a space of seven days, everything changed. It now seems like it happened ages ago. Why did that damn meeting have to take place in her pack? If the meeting venue was somewhere else, Alpha Zane wouldn't have come to their pack and he wouldn't have seen her, then she wouldn't be here packing out of her own room and thinking about the past and worrying about her future. She closed her suitcase then looked around the room memories of what happened here coming back to her. She burst out in tears, she couldn't hold in her tears anymore and she remembered what happened all those nights ago ...
***FLASHBACK, FEW YEARS BACK***
Her wolf had been terrified by previous events, Shirley had gotten up as early as 3 a.m. They were both attracted to Liam and his wolf while knowing it was improper given their tight friendship and the reality that they might not even be mates. She was doing everything she could not to jump out the window and go look for him, as her wolf had instructed. "Stop being a horny bitch and stop acting like one!" Shirley said to her wolf
"Just go to him, shirl," her wolf pleaded, "and we'll have a quick look at him before we return home."
"No!" Shirley responded.
"Stop being so tough and just go to him and let us finish this," she begged once again. "We're both aware that you've been longing to see him."
"No!" Shirley said once more. Because it was 3 a.m., she instructed her wolf to either shut down or go to sleep.
"Why are you being so stubborn when it's not as if you don't want to know if you're his mate?" "Why are you torturing us?"
She imagined her wolf rolling her eyes and was about to burst out laughing when she felt a hand circle her waist. Shirley didn't have to look; she recognized his scent and couldn’t confuse it with anyone else's.
She felt a rush of tingles all over her body, but it wasn't like when you touch your soul mate. Almost instantly, she understood the answer to the question that had kept her awake this late in the night. She felt a flood of emotions sweep over her, but she quickly suppressed them since she didn't want to cry in front of him.
She turned gently to look into his eyes, which were filled with agony and unshed tears, and it came to her that they had both been so engaged in their fantasies that they had forgotten to consider the possibility that they were not mates. They became completely absorbed in their fascination without first double-checking the most important details.
Because of the way he bent his head in surrender and his eyes seemed too dull and sorrowful, Shirley quickly understood that he is in love with her, just as she was with him, she drew him in for a warm hug.
"I thought, hoped, prayed we'd be mates," he said sadly.
"It'll be alright," Shirley tried to console him and herself at the same time, but nothing seemed to be working at that moment.
“This is not acceptable! You don't realize it, do you? I'm madly in love with you, and I don't think I'll ever be able to love anybody else." His tears, which he had been battling to keep from falling down his cheeks since entering her room, suddenly broke loose and began to fall.
"Now we just have to learn to let go of everything," Shirley explained. We will most likely take some time to heal and learn to love someone else again.
"No," he murmured as he drew her closer to him.
"How is it that the moon goddess can't bring us together?" He screamed in agony.
"Isn't it true that we can't interrogate her right now? She must also have a solid reason for doing so," she stated.
He drew back from the hug and looked into her eyes as if trying to see into her soul.
“Shirl, if we reject our mates as soon as we find them, we can be together." He was serious when he made his statement.
She took a step back from him in fear.
"You can't be serious," she mumbled. "We don’t have the authority to tamper with fate. If we try to change the course of history, we shall be severely punished.”
"We aren't destined to be together, Shirl, but we may choose to be together. We have the potential to mold our own fate, and I am ready to do so right now if you would allow me to mark you."
"Liam," she whispered as she moved forward to cradle his face in her palms and looked into his eyes.
“I adore you, and the fact that I adore you only adds to my determination to do the right thing. I can't bring myself to separate you from your lover for selfish reasons; love, after all, isn't selfish..."
He just stood there staring at her for a long time before slamming his lips on hers.
Shirley moaned into the kiss; it wasn't like any of the other kisses they used to have; it was full of their unsaid thoughts, feelings, and remorse for the future they'd never have. After scooping her up, he gently placed her on the bed... He leaned down and gently kissed her forehead.
"I am sorry," he said.
"It's not your fault," she said, explaining that "we have no say in our fate."
She brought him down for another kiss, which would almost certainly be the last, and tried to memorize all of his facial features because this would almost certainly be the last time she'd be this close to his face.
***END OF FLASHBACK***
After waiting for three whole hours and the Alphas who were supposed to come for the division of the pack that recently lost their Alpha didn't show up, he decided to wait for another thirty minutes before leaving, he was about to ask someone to inform Shirley that they would be leaving in the next thirty minutes when a voice sounded urgently in his head. "Alpha Zane, we just caught a wolf pack sniffing about the boundary." His gamma mind linked him. Zane left the room immediately going out so that he can give out instructions. "I don't have to tell you how to do your job, you know what you're supposed to do." Alpha Zane responded by mind-linking his gamma. Zane put him out of his thoughts for a few minutes and carefully massaged his temple, but it didn't seem to help, he desperately wished he was in his pack right now but it wasn't possible.
It was very silent on their way home; it was as if someone significant had died and no one had recovered from the shock; everyone kept their thoughts to themselves, and no one dared to speak of what had happened earlier.***Flashback***ZANE’S POV"Your sister is my mate," I said coldly, my face expressionless. Saying that out loud made me anxious. As soon as I said the word, the entire pack fell silent. Nobody dared to move, not even a pin, as the music immediately ceased to play. After a little pause, someone mumbled, "Reject her," and when I turned to see who was talking, I found her brother staring at me. He appeared to be daring me to say or do something unusual. And, as my reputation suggests, "I answer to no one," which means that I am the only one who makes the "command," and everyone else is compelled to listen to me."Wait a second, what exact
Ace was taken aback when I told him we were leaving right away, but he didn't want to intercede, as I had warned. Alpha Liam tried to persuade me to give Shirl more time to say goodbye to her friends, but nothing they said changed my mind; I'm clinging to the last strand of patience I didn't realize I had, and I'm not willing to put myself through the test to see what happens if that last strand of patience wears off.I sat in my car, waiting for Amelia and my friend to come so I could leave immediately. Why do people keep drawing parallels between me and my parents? Unfortunately, I strive every day to avoid becoming like them; my mantra, for fuck's sake, is "I am not like my parents and I will never be like them," but based on how people constantly compare me to them, it appears that I'm slowly transforming into them, or perhaps I already am."How do you intend to deal with other people's negative impressions of
Amelia’s eyes opened as soon as he said it. Was he kidding? The room at the far end of the hall is as good as a storage room; there is only one window for ventilation, one can't even see the sky from there, and, most importantly, no one ever goes there because it's so far away. It's closer to incarceration, but at least she'd have company in prison. Shirley could tell the situation wasn't going to be pleasant the moment she looked at Amelia and saw her expression. She tried to smile but only got a frown. A tear spilled from Shirley’s eyes, and before she could brush it away, it continued to fall like raindrops, causing her to cry uncontrollably. "What did I do to earn this?" Why should I have to go through this when I swear I've been truthful and honest?" Shirley didn't specifically ask anyone. She was sobbing as she thought of the difficulties that were ahead of her. He
"Fredrick!" exclaimed Zane."Yes, Alpha," Fred replied."Begin whipping her and the guard stationed outside her door every five hours, and the guard will be lashed three times as much as she is for allowing Amelia to enter the room despite my warnings!" He entered his office and closed the door, leaving them stunned."He didn't just say that, did he?" Amelia asked, turning to look at Robert, who was as astonished as she was."Amelia, he's utterly mad; this isn't the brother I remember, and I have a feeling there's more to this than we realize," That twelfth incidence cannot be the source of all these changes..." Robert scowled for a time, thinking about something, then said... "Yes!" He appeared captivated by whatever he has just remembered."What is it?" Amelia inquired out of curiosity, wondering what had gotten him so excited about this situation.
Zane twisted and turned in his bed, unable to find a comfortable sleeping position, and he was conscious of what was bothering him. Every stroke seemed as if he were being whipped; the pain was so great that he could feel his flesh splitting open, and he can now feel it as he laid in his bed. This is most likely why it stated, "You and your spouse are one, you feel the same kind of suffering that your mate does, yours may be worse, therefore you feel obligated to come to their rescue." He had no idea how serious that statement was until the first lash landed on her. He had a gut feeling about it.When she was whipped five hours ago, it seemed like his back opened up, but it was gone as soon as he stopped flogging her, and it feels even worse now that he is lashing her again with greater intensity since the anguish is even worse than before. It felt like someone was constantly stabbing his heart with a wolfsbane-soaked knife.
Amelia's eyes turned to her brother, and she raised her brows in a curious and eager manner."What are you waiting for? are you notcoming?" She was curious."No, I'm not," he said. "I'm gracious and nice enough to allow you to visit her. Go before I change my mind.""I'm just coming..." she whispered, covering her lips with her hands and smacking her forehead for almost ruining it all with her mouth. If he discovers she was just leaving Shirley's room, he will be even more furious, and she will very certainly never be allowed to enter the room again. "I just hope it's not too late when you realize your mistakes!" she exclaimed as she walked away, glaring at him once again.Amelia believes her brother had feelings for his mate and that they were close since he was in pain the entire time she was at his office; he tried but failed terribly. Something was driving him to hold back... something she
Amelia refused to allow Zane to punish someone else for his own errors; it's long past time for him to accept responsibility for his actions. In reality, James was simply carrying out the Alpha's orders; if he had questioned or ignored the order, he would have been in big trouble, and he had no idea who Shirley was. She was positive that if he had even the slightest inkling, he would have been lenient.***She visited Shirley on a daily basis and stayed until it was dark. She had grown to love the girl more and more with each passing hour, and she begged the moon goddess for another chance to make things work between them. She would apologize for her casual attitude from the start, hoping to be forgiven, and then embrace her as a sister for the rest of her life. The most important thing is that she wakes up from her coma; everything else should fall into place after that."Miss Amelia
"Are you sure it's still going to fit okay? I seem to have added much in the past few days," Shirley said pulling her button lips between her teeth as as she fiddled nervously with the fabric of her dress."Trust me, it would and you are going to look gorgeous in it," Amelia said smiling with reassurance as she gave her Shirley's dress one look. "Now hurry up, you wouldn't want to be late to your own house opening and the homecoming party of your mate would you?"Shirley's lips twitched as she exhaled slowly, mentally psyching herself up to step out in the public as Luna after several years of staying hidden.'We have got this Shirl,' Shirley's wolf said."Okay," Shirley replied, her eyes sparkling with gratitude as she started putting on her dress. "I feel like a princess," Shirley giggled."You should be talking about looking like a queen now. Leave the title of princess for your son's mate, Constance. You look like a sexy and elega
"Hey," Shirley said with a smile the moment she opened her eyes."Good morning to you too beautiful," Zane replied. As usual, he woke up before her. These past few days were the best she had had so far. They were days they spent to process everything that has happened so far. She woke up every morning to see Zane already awake and staring at her lovingly. She had barely gone out since he returned, just like all those years ago when he got captured, only that this time, she spent her days laughing with him by her side."Tell me again, how did you feel when you found out that you were pregnant with our son?" Zane asked twirling her hair in his hand."That again? I have told you that story several times already, aren't you tired of hearing it? Ask me something else," Shirley replied with a smile."No, I want to hear it again. I want you to tell it to me every day, I can never get tired of it,""It's old news already. What I can't get over

"We need to get out of here and look for Zane," Shirley stated and all the wolves nodded and yipped in agreement."So...any plan? Or are we all going to go look for him?" A wolf said."The plan..... half of us will go in search of him while the rest will stay and watch our back," Shirley replied and immediately they divided themselves into two groups. The plan was to sneak out and look for Zane and Robert and release them before anyone sees them, but it was too big a risk and she wasn't sure how well it would work out when they do not know what they are up against. If Davina killed fifty of them, just how many more are left? Shirley rushed to her son and collected the chains from his hands. She wasn't comfortable in watching her son kill someone before her eyes, if she had her way, she wouldn't want him to kill anyone at all. "I will handle this myself," she said to him, when she saw him hesitate."What the hell are you doing?" Davina gasped, opening her mouth so that she would be able to breathe."What the hell does it look like?" Shirley sneered tightening her hold on the chains. "I am killing you of course,""How...how...how could you? You..you were the...one preaching... about fair and square, so... how could you?" Davina said."Fair and square? I don't know what that fago? Were you been fair when you kidnapped us from our own homes? Were you been fair when you forced my young son watch something so obscene? Answer me! Were you been fair?" Shirley screamed, choking her with the chain. "If you can't answer that, then you have no business speaking about fairness."Da

So this is how you pay me for my generosity and hospitality? I should have known better. Wolves are same with fox and being kind to them is nothing but a waste of one's time, "Davina said.Shirley said. "Did I hear you say generosity and hospitality? Do you even know the meaning of those?" Shirley asked. You will see. Since you are not satisfied with what you are given, I will make it a point of duty that you are no longer given any. "You just lost all your privileges. That is your punishment for disrespecting me," Davina said, kneeling to her level to shove her face away.Shirley laughed and actually barked in her face, which caught her off guard. Then she said, "What privileges are you talking about?
A bang on the door jolted them all from their thoughts and they looked to see a hand push in several trays of food through the section of the door. It didn't take long before the smell of warm food hit their nostrils.Hunter's mouth felt dry and he looked at his mom to confirm if they were going to eat the food or not, and when she nodded, he undid his cuffs and stood up wearily from the floor to go bring the food closer. His knees groaned in protest but he made his way to the latch several times and retrieved the food trays and water."How are you able to get out of this sliver cuff? Didn't it burn you?" Shirley asked when she saw Hunter without his cuffs.Hunter shrugged and said, "I stared at it intently and asked it to open and it did. But I tried opening everyone else's own but it didn't work.""It's okay, it is nothing to be sad about," Shirley replied when she saw his face fall. When he was done bringing the food closer, all except Shirley w
