Zara's pov

I froze at the top of the stairs, watching in horror as Mia tumbled down. She hit the floor with a sickening thud, a deep claw mark across her chest bleeding uncontrollably.

My hands trembled, clutching the pregnancy test results I had fought so hard to hide. Panic consumed me, and before I could stop it, my wolf had surfaced. My claws had struck her. My sister.

Ryker, my mate the one I had loved since childhood, the one I had always dreamed of standing beside—was by Mia’s side in an instant. His face was a storm of fury, his jaw clenched as his piercing eyes locked onto mine. In that moment, he wasn’t just my Alpha, the leader of our pack; he was the man I had spent my whole life longing for, trusting, and cherishing.

But the words he spoke shattered me.

“What have you done, Zara?” he roared, his voice echoing with raw anger. “How could you be so cruel?”

I flinched as though he had struck me. His accusation, his disbelief in me, cut deeper than any wound ever could. This was Ryker—the man I had given my heart to, the man whose approval I craved more than anything. And now, he looked at me as though I were nothing more than a monster.

His words weren’t just angry; they were condemning. They weren’t directed at my actions—they were directed at me. And that hurt more than anything, because no one else's opinion mattered as much as his

Luna Diana stepped forward, her presence commanding. “Zara, heal her. Now,” she ordered, her voice calm but firm. “You’re the only one who can.”

I froze, the weight of her demand crushing me. My eyes darted to Mia, limp in Ryker’s arms, her breaths shallow as blood soaked her clothes.

“She’s dying!” someone shouted. “Do it, Zara! Stop wasting time!”

“She’s your sister! How can you hesitate?” someone shouted.

Their words cut deep, my heart pounding as guilt and panic consumed me. Mia and I shared the same gift—we could heal others but never ourselves. And now, she was dying because of me.

**********

Five minutes before the accident:

Mia leaned against my bed, a sly smile playing on her lips as she waved the pregnancy test results I hadn’t even opened.

“Well, well,” she drawled, her eyes gleaming. “Zara’s little secret?”

I froze in the doorway, panic rising as my wolf stirred restlessly. “Mia,” I said, stepping forward, forcing calm into my voice. “Give it to me. Now.”

"Who would have thought? Zara, the perfect angel, carrying someone’s pup. Does Ryker know? Or is this someone else’s dirty little secret?” Mia sneered, waving the paper tauntingly.

“Stop it,” I snapped, my voice sharp. “You don’t know what you’re talking about.”

Her smirk deepened. “I hope it’s Ryker’s. If it’s not... well, imagine the scandal. The blessed healer, disgraced. Oh, how the pack would talk.”

“Give it to me, Mia,” I growled, my claws itching to emerge.

She leaned in, her tone venomous. “Do you even want it? Or is this your desperate attempt to make Ryker love you?”

My wolf stirred, but I forced her down, my fists clenching. “Say one more word about my child, and I swear—”

Mia laughed bitterly. “Your child? Look at you, Zara. You can barely hold yourself together.”

“Together, let alone raise a pup. Maybe it’s better if—”

“Enough,” I hissed, clutching the paper. My breath was ragged, my wolf pacing restlessly in my mind. I wouldn’t let Mia’s words break me.

“You wouldn’t hurt me, would you? What would Ryker think?” she taunted before darting out of the room, her laughter echoing through the hallway.

“Mia, stop!” I shouted, chasing after her as she sprinted toward the stairs.

She glanced back, smirking. “Afraid I’ll tell everyone? Maybe Ryker should know your little secret first!”

Her words ignited a surge of fury. My claws extended as my wolf pushed forward, demanding I protect what was mine. “Mia, I’m warning you!” I yelled, desperation in my voice.

When the gash finally sealed, darkness swirled at the edges of my vision. I slumped back, barely able to keep myself upright. But before I could catch my breath.

I didn’t let her finish. With a sharp motion, I grabbed the paper from her hand, my claws brushing her wrist. She recoiled and tried to yank it back, the force throwing her off balance.

In the chaos, my claws grazed her chest, leaving a shallow but jagged mark. Her eyes widened in shock as she stumbled backward.

“Mia!” I screamed, reaching for her, but it was too late. Her footing slipped, and she tumbled down the stairs, her body hitting each step with sickening thuds.

Time froze as I bolted after her, my heart hammering. She lay crumpled at the bottom, blood soaking her clothes and pooling beneath her.

Dropping to my knees, I pressed my hands over her wound, trembling. The pregnancy had already drained me, but I had no choice. Ignoring the searing pain, I summoned every ounce of energy I had left to heal her.

"My wolf told me Zara didn’t want to heal me,” Mia said, her trembling voice laced with false innocence. “She hesitated—she wanted me to suffer.”

Murmurs rippled through the pack, their accusing eyes burning into me. I tried to defend myself, but my strength was gone. My vision blurred, and I collapsed to the ground, powerless to stop the growing distrust.

Ryker’s cold voice cut through the noise. “Zara,” he said, his gaze piercing, “why would your own sister’s wolf say that about you?”

The pack's accusations rang in my ears, sharp and merciless.

“She didn’t want to heal her own sister. What kind of monster is she?”

“Her healing powers are fake! She’s been lying all along.”

“She doesn’t deserve to be our Luna.”

Each word felt like a dagger to my heart. My legs trembled as my wolf whimpered, crushed beneath the betrayal of those we once called family.

Then, the final blow came: “Why did we even come to this Luna ceremony? She’s evil!”

This was supposed to be my moment—standing proudly beside Ryker as his Luna. Instead, it was my public humiliation.

Ryker’s voice cut through the noise, cold and biting. “I should’ve known. You never cared about me or the pack. You just wanted the title.”

“No, Ryker,” I croaked, tears filling my eyes. “That’s not true—”

“Enough!” he barked, silencing me. His eyes burned with anger as he stepped closer, towering over me.

“I, Alpha Ryker Blackmore, reject Zara Walka as my mate and Luna of my pack.”

His words shattered me. Pain ripped through my chest as the mate bond snapped, leaving me hollow and broken. My wolf howled in agony, but no one came to my defense. No one believed me.

As I collapsed, clutching my chest, Ryker turned his back on me and walked away without a second glance. My world crumbled, and amid the suffocating darkness, one name burned in my mind: **Mia.**

She had orchestrated all of this. The pack believed her lies, but I knew the truth. As they carried her away, Ryker’s cold voice lingered.

“She hurt her sister so badly. Tell me, who’s really trying to kill whom?”

Tears streamed down my face as the weight of everything crushed me. My vision blurred, my strength faded, and the darkness swallowed me whole.

Zara’s pov As soon as Ryker stormed out, slamming the door, the silence felt suffocating. I stood there, heart breaking all over again. “I knew it,” I said softly to Luna Diana. “He never loved me—just saw me as a friend. I thought I was different, but I was wrong.” Luna Diana's expression softened, allowing me to continue. “Even when we were younger, I convinced myself it wasn’t personal. But now, I see he never really saw me. And now…” I touched my stomach, where our child grew. “I need to leave this pack,” I said firmly. “Not just for me, but for my baby. If I stay, we won’t survive.” Luna Diana’s eyes widened, but she nodded. “What do you need, Zara?” “I have some savings from part-time work when i was in the university. It’s not much, but it’s a start. I just need help getting to the human world, somewhere I can hide and raise my baby.” After a long moment, she sighed. “I’ll help you. • The Exiled Luna    Chapter 5

Zara's povThe rest of the flight passed in a blur, my thoughts consumed by the frozen bank account. I couldn’t relax, couldn’t enjoy the fleeting sense of calm that Adrian’s company had offered. I kept replaying the notification in my mind, the words administrative action echoing like a warning bell. Someone had deliberately blocked my access to the money I needed to survive here. I fought the urge to open my phone again, to check for any updates, but I couldn’t afford to let my guard down. There were too many unanswered questions. Who had the power to freeze my account? And why now, of all times? As the plane began its descent, I made a mental list of people who might be involved. Ryker was an obvious suspect—he was always protective of me, but his need for control had pushed him to do some dangerous things in the past. Then there was Mia, whose relationship with me had become more strained with each passing year. But no matter how hard I tried to think it through, there was one

Zara's POV The apartment was cold, the kind of cold that sank into your bones. It wasn’t just the temperature it was the silence, the emptiness. I dropped my bag by the door and looked around. The single room was small, with a creaky bed shoved against one wall and a kitchen that could barely fit one person. It wasn’t much, but it was mine for now. I sank onto the mattress and pulled out my phone again, hoping against hope that the bank notification had somehow been a mistake. It hadn’t. The account was still frozen, the message still glaring back at me like a taunt. My fingers itched to call the bank, but I knew better than to risk it. If the wrong person was behind this, contacting the bank might alert them to my exact location. I needed a plan, but my thoughts were jumbled, and exhaustion clawed at me. A knock on the door snapped me out of my spiral. I froze. “Zara?” a familiar voice called. “It’s Adrian. Just wanted to make sure you’re okay.” Relief washed over me as I

Zara's pov Adrian didn’t let go of my hand as we slipped out of the alley, keeping a brisk but unhurried pace as we headed back toward my apartment. My heart was still racing, but I forced myself to breathe slowly, trying to stay calm. “We need a plan,” Adrian said, his voice steady but firm. “If this guy or whoever’s behind this is following you, you can’t just wait around for them to make their next move.” I nodded, my mind already working through the possibilities. “I need to find out who froze my account. That’s where this started.” Adrian hesitated. “That could be risky. If it’s connected to someone who doesn’t want you here…” “I don’t have a choice,” I interrupted. “That account is all I have. Without it, I’m stuck.” He frowned, clearly weighing the risks, but eventually nodded. “Okay. But we’re not doing this alone.” “Who else would help?” I asked, scepticism colouring my tone. Adrian smirked. “You’d be surprised. I know a guy who’s good with… digital problems.”

The air outside the bar was cold as Adrian and I walked back to my apartment. I could feel his frustration radiating off him like heat, his silence louder than words. “You don’t have to be this angry for me,” I said quietly, breaking the stillness. Adrian stopped mid-step and turned to face me. “Zara, this isn’t just about you. People like Ryker—they think they can do whatever they want because they’ve always gotten away with it. It makes my blood boil.” I offered a small smile, touched by his loyalty. “Still, it’s my fight.” “It’s our fight now,” he corrected firmly. His words made my chest tighten, a mix of gratitude and guilt swirling inside me. I didn’t want to drag him into the mess that was my life, but Adrian had already chosen his side. By the time we reached my apartment, the sun had set, casting the city in shades of grey. Adrian walked me to my door, lingering as if he didn’t want to leave. “I’ll stay close tonight,” he said, leaning against the doorframe. “Ju

Zara's pov Adrian’s gaze was steady as he sat across from me at the small kitchen table, his hands folded in front of him. His green eyes glimmered with determination, but there was an unspoken promise he didn’t dare voice yet. “Zara,” he began, his voice low but resolute, “I want you to come with me to my pack.” I blinked, startled by the offer. “What?” He leaned forward slightly, his presence commanding yet comforting. “My pack is strong, loyal, and far from the mess Ryker has dragged you into. You could start over there—live like the queen you’re meant to be. No fear, no running, just freedom.” His words hung in the air, tempting and sweet. For a moment, I let myself imagine it: a life surrounded by wolves who would respect and protect me, a place where I could reconnect with the part of myself I’d been forced to suppress for so long. But then the memories surged back—the rejection, the pain, the severed bond with my wolf when Ryker had cast me aside like I was nothing.

Zara’s POV The whisper echoed like a breath across my skin, soft and cold, raising goosebumps along my arms. My eyes snapped open, the velvet shadows of the room pressing in close, and yet… nothing moved. Atlas slept beside me, steady and unaware, his arm draped protectively across my waist. My breath caught. I sat up slowly, careful not to disturb him, and stared into the moonlit darkness that filtered through the windows. No footsteps. No movement. No sign of life beyond these walls. But I had *heard* it. A voice. Not imagined. Not dreamt. Real. Find me. My hands trembled slightly as I swung my legs off the bed, quietly tiptoeing toward the balcony. The breeze outside kissed my skin, stirring my nightgown as I gripped the stone railing. The forest beyond looked as peaceful as ever. And yet, I couldn’t shake the feeling that something—*someone*—was calling to me. Not a threat. Not Mia. Not Selene. This felt… older. Familiar in a strange, bone-deep way. “Zara?”

Zara’s pov I didn't sleep that night. Mia’s face haunted me—her rage, her twisted conviction, the chilling emptiness that had replaced the sister I once knew. Her words echoed in my mind, each syllable a thorn I couldn’t dislodge. By morning, I felt hollow, a shell of nerves and guilt. The sun broke through the window of my cabin, washing everything in harsh, indifferent light. The pack was already stirring outside, but their presence felt distant. I didn't know what to do. Arcturus’s warning weighed heavy on my chest. Mia’s threat was real, and if I didn't stop her, Black Ridge—everyone I cared about—could be dragged into the chaos she was willing to unleash. And yet, the thought of raising a hand against her, of becoming her executioner, twisted my stomach into knots. I forced myself to the training grounds, hoping that physical exhaustion might drown out the conflict in my head. Wolves of all ages gathered in clusters, sparring and practicing, their laughter and banter cut

Zara’s POV The moment Arcturus vanished, a strange silence filled the room. The weight of his words lingered in the air, pressing down on me like an unseen force. "When the time comes… you must be the one to end her." Mia. My own sister. My greatest enemy. I exhaled sharply, trying to steady my breathing. Ryker was watching me, his golden eyes unreadable. “Are you okay?” he finally asked. I wanted to say yes. I wanted to pretend that the knowledge of my fate didn’t shake me to my core. But I was shaken. Because deep down, I knew the truth. Mia wasn’t just going to fall. She was going to take everything with her if I didn’t stop her first. The eerie silence didn’t last long. Because a second later, a deafening boom shattered the air. The walls trembled. The glass windows cracked. Ryker and I exchanged a sharp look before sprinting toward the door. Outside, chaos had erupted. The night sky was painted red with flames. Smoke billowed from the western side of the pac

He was being protected by forces she could never understand. The moon was high in the sky when I finally allowed myself to rest. The pack had doubled their patrols, warriors were stationed at every corner, and Ryker had personally ensured the borders were sealed. Still, sleep didn’t come easily. I turned in bed, staring at the ceiling, listening to Ryker’s steady breathing beside me. The weight of the pack, the war that was coming, the fear of what Mia might do next—it all pressed down on me. I exhaled, closing my eyes, trying to force myself into sleep. This wasn’t over, Not by a long shot. I barely made it halfway back to my house before I heard footsteps behind me. His lips quirked up slightly. “No, you’re not.” We walked in silence for a few moments before he spoke again. “I meant what I said back there, Zara. And now, it was time to let the pack know the truth. Without fear. Without regret. “Call for a pack meeting,” I said firmly. Ryker’s head snapped up from where he sat at his desk. His eyes flickered with something between surprise and suspicion. “Why?” I crossed my arms. “I have something to say.” He leaned forward, studying me carefully. “Zara, if this is about—” “It’s not up for discussion, Ryker.” My voice was steady and controlled. “Call the meeting.” There was a long pause. Then, slowly, he nodded. “Fine,” he said. “We’ll meet in the clearing at sundown.” I turned to leave, but his voice stopped me. “You’re different,” he murmur
