BELLA'S POV
“What the hell are you doing?” I yelled, and she quickly placed her hand over my mouth to stop me from shouting. “Calm down! I'm not gonna hurt you. If Ethan finds out you're missing, he's gonna wanna be a good husband and try to find you. If he sees us talking calmly, he would suspect something is going on, but if he sees us like this, he would think we got into a fight. He wouldn't have any reasons to be suspicious, does that make sense?” She replied calmly, and I realized she was right, so I stopped struggling while she took her hand off my mouth. “So, what is it you wanted to tell me?” I asked and she let out a sigh before pulling the mask off. I could tell from her expression that she was troubled and probably afraid. “I was also tricked into being with Ethan, but unlike you, I'm not married to him. However, he owns me for life. My parents' business was on the brink of bankruptcy and my brother nearly died due to a rare disease. Ethan was the only hope we had and he agreed to help us if he got me in return.” She explained and I tried to wrap my head around everything she had said. “Hold on, how did you get to know Ethan and why did he want you in return?” “Ethan was… my ex. We dated back in college, but when he became the CEO of his dad's company, he became cold and distant, so we broke up. I never thought I'd see him again until everything crumbled, and he offered us a silver lining only if I got back together with him. I had no idea he was married to you already until he made me sign a deal that bound me to him forever.” Her narration was making me dizzy and I would have fallen if she wasn't holding me against the wall. The ladies that came and went gave us weird looks but I was too confused to care about what they thought. I knew Ethan never loved me but this… this was too much. “How… how long have you been in the ‘deal’ with him?” “It's been four years now.” She confessed and I let out a shaky breath of despair while her eyes held a depth of sadness and torment. “Why… Why are you suddenly approaching me after four years? What hidden motive do you have?” I questioned and she let out a sigh as a desperate look clouded her expression. “I can't let him do to you what he did to me. I've had countless abortions for Ethan and now I no longer have a womb. I can't carry my child anymore, and I fear he's about to do the same to you. You need to find a way out, we need to escape the clutches of that psychopath. I'm now useless and no longer have a future, so I have nothing to lose if I die with him but you; you have a bright life ahead of you! You can't remain with him anymore, Bella.” Her words made sense and I couldn't help but feel sympathy towards her. She didn't want me to go through what she had gone through with Ethan and was trying to find a way out for me even though she didn't know me… “Why are you helping me?” “I'm not just helping you, I'm helping myself as well. Ethan's not telling you something, the moment you decide to divorce him and get the case to the court, you'll get access to half his property. If you can add violence to his atrocities, you might get everything he's worked hard for. That way, you'll ruin him and the only thing I want is to see him suffer for putting us through so much suffering and torture.” She explained and I let out a sigh as I replayed all of her words in my head. It was a very tempting offer… “I never got your name. You know mine, you clearly know everything about me. If I'm to trust you, I need to know everything about you too.” I said and a soft smile appeared on her face in response. “I'm Mabel Miles. I'll be at your office tomorrow. That way we can discuss more-” “Bella?” I heard Ethan call out my name and my eyes widened in shock. Mabel realized that Ethan had found us and suddenly pressed me harder to the wall, her arm tightening over my neck. Ethan immediately rushed over and separated us as I struggled to catch my breath. I thought she was gonna end me there for a second. “Mabel? What are you doing here?” He asked as he held me close to him and I couldn't help but feel disgusted by him. He was a beast in human form. “Your wife clearly didn't know her place and tried to threaten me to stay away from you! I accidentally spilled my drink on her dress and now she's forcing me to wash it up for her. She even tried to hit me… I only wanted to teach her a lesson.” Mabel replied in a soft, sulky tone as she crossed her arms and I could see that Ethan was dying to comfort her instead of me. His grip on my waist tightened and I bit down on my lip to stop myself from wincing in pain. “I apologize for my wife's mistake. We'll take our leave now.” He said through gritted teeth before grabbing my hand and dragging me out of the bathroom. “Ethan, it's not what you think-” “You just wait till we get home. Better be prepared.” He said in anger as he took me to our assigned seats and made me sit. “Stay here, if you move an inch, you'd only add to your punishment.” He walked away and I knew that he was going to appease Mabel in private. I used the time to think of everything she told me. Divorcing Ethan is very risky but it was also a good idea. I've been managing Dad's company ever since he died but when I married Ethan, it automatically became one of his companies… This was a chance to take back everything I had lost from him. I suddenly felt a tap on my shoulder and I turned my head to see a strikingly handsome man sitting beside me. He exuded a cold and intimidating aura that made me shudder in fear. “Y-yes? What do you want from me?” I asked slowly, my voice trembling under his cold gaze and he smiled lightly, one that didn't reach his eyes. “I have a few questions. Just answer me and you'll be safe.”BELLA'S POVI sat frozen in my seat as I stared at the intimidating man who looked down at me with a cold smile, and I could feel sweat trickling down my back even though the hall was air-conditioned.“Are you a detective?” I managed to ask and he let out a cold chuckle, one that sent goosebumps across my skin.“I'm the one asking the questions here. Do you know a certain Mabel Miles?” He asked and my brows furrowed in confusion as I looked up at him.“W-why do you ask?” I managed to mumble and his smile immediately faded, causing me to nearly jump in my seat with how scary he looked. He was the most handsome, yet scary man I've ever set my eyes on.“I remember making it clear that only I asked the questions here. You either answer my questions truthfully and nobody gets hurt or…” He suddenly took out a syringe and pressed it close to my neck, making me close my eyes in horror.“Fine, fine. I'll answer all your questions, just get that thing away from me!”“Do you know Mabel Miles?” H
BELLA'S POV“What's going on here?” I heard Ethan say with a scowl on his face and my heart sank in fear. He walked closer to our side and suddenly grabbed Edward's shirt as he raised his hand to throw a punch.“What? I was just keeping your wife company since you were so busy with your mistress.” Edward replied with a low voice and Ethan's hand froze in the air.“What are you talking about? How did you know that?” He asked in shock as he turned to me with a scowl. “Did you tell him?” He asked, and I quickly shook my head as I tried to explain, but Edward beat me to it.“Why do you have to blame everything on her? You're the one who couldn't keep your tracks clean. I'm sure you know what would happen to you if this gets exposed…” He said with a sly smirk and the veins in Ethan's nearly popped out with how angry he was.Thankfully, the hall was dimly lit and no one noticed the conflict between both of them. The glaring contest was getting terrifying and I knew I had to find a way to st
BELLA'S POV "Let's just say it involves making someone pay for their actions today," Ethan said cruelly before leaving. Those words kept echoing in my head. How could I sleep knowing that Ethan was going to deal with Edward? I know that Edward can protect himself, but something about Ethan's possessive behavior today was unnerving. I kept checking through the curtains all night to see when Ethan got back, as I couldn't get any rest. I didn't believe for once that Edward was as vile as Ethan claimed. I may be in love, but I'm not that stupid. At past 3:00 in the morning, I saw an all-too-familiar Mustang pull up at the residence, and I knew he was finally back. I rushed back immediately but carefully, laid back down, and closed my eyes while awaiting his presence. I felt his daunting presence even before the door opened. He scanned the room as if checking to see if anything was amiss. Finally, he walked towards the edge of the bed and smoothed my hair down. While looking dow
BELLA'S POVMy blood turns to ice. Ethan was standing in my office doorway, watching me.I swallow hard, and my grip tightens on the phone. Before I can say anything, Mabel speaks, her voice smooth and unbothered."Ethan."My breath catches. She said his name. Not mine, but Ethan's name. Not pretending to be someone else. She wants him to know it's her.Ethan doesn't even flinch. He steps further into the room, eyes on me, but his voice is for her."Mabel."The tension is suffocating. I grip the phone tighter, but neither of them acknowledges me. It's like I'm not even here.I feel a pang of jealousy, as his love for her is evident even as she isn't here with us. Even after all these years, I couldn't command his attention the way she did. It doesn't matter what I do or how I do it; he'll never be mine, and he'll never love me."You shouldn't be calling my wife at work," Ethan says. His tone is calm, but I know better. There's a sharpness underneath, something coiled and waiting to sn
BELLA'S POVI wake up gasping. My body aches, and my wrist throbs where Ethan grabbed me, my jaw still sore from his grip. The house is silent.I sit up slowly, my breath uneven. I don't know how long I was out, but it wasn't long enough for him to leave because he's still here. And my phone? I glance toward the couch.Still hidden. Still recording.I exhale, steadying myself. I have what I need—the proof. Now, I just have to use it.Mabel's already waiting for me when I pull into the parking lot. We agreed to meet up at the parking lot when I got the evidence. She's leaning against her car, arms crossed, sunglasses hiding her expression. But I can feel the tension radiating off her.The second I step out, she moves. "Did you get it?"I nod, pulling my phone from my bag. I tap the screen and show her the audio file. She exhales with a slow and controlled breath. "Play it."I hesitate. Hearing it again, reliving it. But I press play. The recording crackles to life. My voice was soft bu
BELLA’S POV I feel the moment the tide shifts. The courtroom is too quiet. Ethan leans back in his seat, smirking, his fingers drumming idly against the table. Like he already knows the outcome. Like this is nothing more than a game to him. My lawyer glances at me, eyes sharp but uncertain. We weren’t prepared for this and we definitely weren’t prepared for him to accuse me of cheating with Edward. The claim is ridiculous, fabricated, and desperate but that doesn’t matter. What matters is how the judge; an old, gray-haired man who greeted Ethan like an old friend before the hearing even started is staring at me now, considering it. Ethan’s lawyer stands, clearing his throat. “Your Honor, we have significant proof that Mrs. Leon has been unfaithful to her husband with a man named Edward Leon.” I flinch at the name. Edward was my Ethan’s brother and the court wasn’t stupid, they should have gotten that. The only ever proper conversation I had with Edward was at the function a few da
BELLA’S POVWalking into the building that once bore my family’s name feels like stepping into the past, but not the kind you want to relive, more like the kind that haunts you when you least expect it. The familiar scent of polished mahogany and expensive cologne clings to the air, but instead of warmth, it fills me with a sense of betrayal so sharp it tightens around my chest like a vice.I move forward, my heels clicking against the sleek marble floors, a sound that used to command attention but now barely earns me a passing glance. The receptionist, a woman I hired myself, doesn’t even pretend to acknowledge me as she files her nails, chewing gum like she has all the time in the world.“I’m here to see Ethan,” I say, keeping my voice steady despite the storm brewing inside me.She slowly looks up, her lips curling with amusement as if she’s enjoying the sight of me standing there, stripped of the power I once held. “Does he know you’re coming?”“Just call him,” I reply, refusing t
BELLA’S POVI stood there, phone pressed against my ear, my breath coming in shallow bursts as the weight of my reality settled on my shoulders. The night air was cold against my skin, but it was nothing compared to the icy dread curling in my stomach.“I was wondering when you’d call.”Carlos’s voice was smooth, unreadable, the kind that sent a shiver down your spine not because it was unkind, but because it held secrets you weren’t sure you wanted to uncover.I swallowed hard, hesitating.I had no idea what I was stepping into, no clue what kind of man I was calling for help. But I knew one thing for certain. Ethan had left me with nothing, and if I wanted even the smallest chance at reclaiming my life, I couldn’t afford to be cautious. Not anymore.“I—” My voice cracked, so I took a slow breath before trying again. “I need help.”There was a pause on the other end, and then, “Where are you?”I glanced around, realizing I had been so lost in my thoughts I hadn’t even noticed where m
ELLA'S POVFear gripped me like a snake coiled around my neck and I couldn't help but look around in fear. What if the person was watching me right now? Were there cameras in the office?I managed to pick myself off the ground and sat on the chair as I took deep breaths to steady myself. Whoever was sending this was a girl, a girl that was very possessive of Damien.I just have to stay away from Damien, right? Then she'll stop following me. But I also wanted to find out who the person was and I was desperate to know who it was. Maybe we could talk things out and I would explain that I have nothing to do with Damien. My heart was pounding harshly as I wrote a reply to the unknown number.“The only relationship I have with Damien is that of a CEO and secretary. You're getting it all wrong.”My hands trembled as I pressed send and I locked the screen immediately while waiting for a response. Minutes passed and there was no reply. Was this person messing with me?Or… could this be another
ELLA’S POVThe call ended as soon as it rang. I had never expected him to reach out to me. Ever again.“Who is it?” Damien asked as he stepped closer to me and I turned around to see him staring at me in worry. I immediately plastered a smile on my face as I shook my head to show him that everything was fine.“It's probably a scam number. It was unknown and I have no idea who it was.” I lied but he looked at me with a skeptical expression as he approached me with worry all over his face.“Are you sure? You looked really scared just now. You know you can always talk to me, right?” He said with a reassuring tone and I smiled at him before nodding. He still didn't look convinced but he decided not to push it.“Do you feel better now? Should I stay longer?” He asked and I immediately shook my head as I held his hand in mine.“It's okay, you can leave now. I feel better. Thank you for coming to comfort me.” I replied and he let out a sigh as he placed a soft kiss on my head before pulling
DAMIEN'S POVElla's words had me broken at some point. I couldn't believe that she wanted space between both of us just because she was scared about what people would say. I watched as she hurried into her office but before I could go after her, she slammed the door and locked it shut.I ran a hand through my hair as I pressed the elevator button and it started going down again. I had to find a way to clear my mind because it was all jumbled and confused. A cup of coffee would do because I was never good with liquor. The employees greeted me with a smile as I walked past but I didn't even notice them. I tried to put myself in Ella's shoes. Maybe she was right. No one would dare say shit about me because I could easily fire them but her…No one gave a damn because she was just a secretary. She could easily be trampled on and she wouldn't even let me know what she was going through.I headed for the coffee shop, and I let out a sigh of despair. Maybe she was right to ask for some space.
ELLA'S POVI was bothered by Sylvia's words. Something in me wanted to believe that it was all a joke and that she would never break our friendship over something so trivial. But as I sat in that cafe with no signs of her returning, I knew that she wasn't kidding. She could end our years of friendship just because of Damien. There was something suspicious about Sylvia's obsession with getting her revenge on Damien. As I walked back to the office, I couldn't help but wonder what she meant by that. “There was no better place than by Damien's side.” What did she mean by that? Was she in love with Damien too?I walked into the elevator with my thoughts jumbled over each other as I tried to make meaning of Sylvia's words. She wanted to get revenge on him, yet she wanted to be by his side. What exactly was she trying to gain? And what was she hiding from me?“You seem so lost in your thoughts.” I heard someone say and I glanced up in shock to see Damien staring at me as he leaned against th
CARLOS’S POVI told her to leave. The words replayed in my mind with a bitter sting, sharper each time, but I refused to dwell on them. I meant it or at least that’s what I kept telling myself as I leaned back in the leather seat of my car, eyes fixed on the darkened city skyline. The drive home was long and silent, the streets empty save for a few stray headlights. My hands tightened around the steering wheel, knuckles white with the strain. There was a dull ache behind my eyes, exhaustion settling deep into my bones, but it was nothing compared to the hollow pit in my chest that refused to let me breathe right.I shouldn’t have said it, not like that. But what was done was done. Bella had no business knowing about Mabel, let alone getting involved. She’d seen one side of it and thought she understood, but revenge was never that simple. It was blood and ruin, and Bella didn’t belong in that world. I wouldn’t let her. But still, the look in her eyes when she’d left… it was burned into
BELLA’S POVWhen Carlos told me to leave, the words cut deeper than I expected. They replayed in my mind with every step, a cruel echo that refused to fade. My fingers trembled as I zipped my suitcase, breaths shallow and unsteady. I wasn’t crying, I wouldn’t let myself. But the tightness in my throat betrayed me, the sting behind my eyes a warning I refused to heed. I had to leave. I had to get out before the walls closed in and his voice drowned everything else. The penthouse was eerily quiet without his presence, every shadow stretched long and dark against the marble floors. I moved mechanically, folding clothes with numb fingers, slipping essentials into my bag, avoiding the mirror and the rawness I knew I’d find there. He didn’t even call. Didn’t even try to stop me.A bitter laugh slipped past my lips, hollow and humorless. Of course, he didn’t. Why would he? I was just a complication, another liability in his revenge-soaked world. Whatever connection we’d built was nothing mor
CARLOS’S POVRevenge isn’t a single strike or a swift blade. It’s a slow, grueling process, peeling back the layers of lies, tearing down the walls brick by brick until there’s nothing left but raw, bleeding truth. Truth is a weapon, and I intended to carve Mabel open with it.Her screams had died down to whimpers hours ago, voice hoarse and cracking, wrists red and raw against the zip ties binding her to the metal chair. The concrete walls of the basement were stained dark in places, the only light a single bulb swaying overhead, casting shadows sharp enough to cut.Mabel’s head lolled forward, blonde hair slick with sweat and sticking to her cheeks, breaths ragged and uneven. I leaned back in the chair across from her, fingers drumming idly against my knee, the silence heavy and suffocating. The smell of damp concrete and copper hung thick in the air, but I barely noticed. My attention was fixed solely on her, the way she flinched at every creak of the floor, pupils blown wide with
CARLOS’S POVSome say revenge is best served cold. I disagree. Revenge should be slow like poison slipping through veins, unseen and inevitable. It should seep into every crack and shadow, eroding peace and sanity until all that’s left is fear. Fear was the one thing Mabel couldn’t hide. Not anymore. The days bled together in a blur of shadows and whispers, my hours split between digging into Stephen’s empire and unraveling Mabel’s lies one by one. Lucas moved in silence, reports slipping across my desk like clockwork, financial records, surveillance footage, transcripts of hushed conversations behind locked doors.Mabel was good at hiding things. Always had been. But she’d gotten sloppy, comfortable behind Stephen’s walls and guards and the illusion of safety. A foolish mistake that would cost her. I leaned back in the chair, the office dark and quiet but for the soft hum of the city beyond the glass. On the screen, security footage flickered, the entrance of Stephen’s estate, guards
CARLOS’S POVSome days were harder than others. Today was one of them. The drive back to the penthouse was a blur of headlights and rain-slicked streets, my hands gripping the steering wheel hard enough to strain muscle and bone. Each turn, each stoplight, passed unnoticed as memories clawed to the surface unbidden and relentless. The date glared from the dashboard like an accusation. February 22nd. I didn’t need a reminder. My body already knew, muscles tight and lungs raw, the phantom ache blooming in my chest.Today would have been her birthday. If she’d been born but Mabel made sure that never happened. I shoved the thought down, jaw clenched tight enough to ache. Outside, the city sprawled dark and endless, neon lights bleeding into asphalt rivers. But all I saw was white, the sterile white of hospital walls, the cold metal of surgical tools, the blank lines of the form Mabel had signed without a second thought. Our daughter who could’ve been here was gone. Because Mabel had deci
