The room was very quiet. After Caleb spoke, he heard Penny sincerely reply, “Mr. Fergerson, thank you.”

At least without knowing she was the wife he despised, he still held her in high regard.

This marriage arrangement was unnecessary for both of them. They each had their own difficulties, and there was no need to blame either one.

The Sullivans had taken advantage of this. If she still expected Caleb to respect her as his wife, on what grounds would that be?

She could not possibly expect to get all the benefits in the world.

Caleb remained silent and slowly closed his eyes.

Penny realized he wanted to rest and remained quiet.

Caleb heard Sebastian’s voice.

“Ms. Penny, here’s your breakfast. Thank you for staying with Mr. Fergerson all night.”

“There’s no need to thank me. Now that you’re here, I’ll take my leave.”

“Alright. I’ll be sure to personally thank you another day.”
