/-Alora-/

The fire burned slowly on the hearth, casting a dark figure against the stone walls of the chamber. Lucien was gone, but the words he spoke before departing seemed to say it all; they echoed in my mind. Randall sat opposite me, his stiff demeanor heavier than most weights.

He had spoken nothing since Lucien's departure, his gaze fixated on the fire as if the flickering flames would reveal an answer to a question neither of us dared to ask. I could feel his uneasiness, a fury simmering just beyond the surface of his skin.

"Say it," I yelled, shattering the stillness. "Whatever it is you're brooding over, just spit it out."

His gaze shifted to me, frigid and calculated. "Do you think you can trust him?"

"Trust?" I snorted and crossed my arms. "Do you think I trust anyone right now?" Least of all, you?

The words ached even as I said them, but they were true. Randall had assisted me, but his reasons were unclear at best. Now that Lucien was involved, the situation had become muc

/-Alora-/I walked down the hallway with a great sense of anxiety. My steps were the only sounds within this prison of Night Terrors. Such pressure-my new power-so weighed upon me, gnawed at the edges of my thoughts. Powerful beyond anything else, not yet did it consume me, until I knew just what I faced. Finally, I arrived at the door to Randall's rooms, the only refuge in this fortification where I might find some peace. It creaked as I opened it, and Randall sat up by the fire, his face lit by the broken shadows of the flames. He was the picture of a king: brooding, strong, remote; and yet, in that strength, there seemed a part of him broken. His sight, his bearing, nudged surface and depth within me anew. The truth of my bloodline, the reports of a problem beyond untangling, my next step forward-all spoke to question. Even the term makes my stomach turn, and something inside heaves, a gnawing in the abdomen, as the storm gathers momentum from afar.Randall stood between us, his body tensed and his gaze fixated on Allison. He didn't need to say anything to make me understand he knew her. He knew her quite well."Why are you here?" Randall talked quietly and calmly, but it was clear he was furious.Allison smiled, but it wasn't a cheerful grin but one full of secrets. "I think you know why, Randall." She glanced at me for a minute, as if solving a conundrum in her head. "And, Alora, I believe you will soon realize that you have picked the wrong side in this. Her words sent shivers down my spine as the significance of what she said dawned on me gradually. /Alora/Allison's words continued to replay in my head, long after she disappeared into nothingness. The warning replayed in my mind as I trailed behind Randall out of the room, unable to clear the mess from inside with the pack on edge and not with the weight of the growing tension pressing down upon us. Every step felt heavier. Each breath felt shallow because the air felt different now that she was here.Randall quickened his pace the closer we came to the northern edge of the clearing, where Celia was already standing with a knot of warriors, circling in grave formation around something that lay upon the ground. My heart plummeted at the sight of her face, pale, her eyes deep with concern."What happened?" Randall demanded.Celia only threw a backward glance at me hastily. "You need to see this for yourself."The group parted, showing the mangled remains of a pack member. Blood drenched the earth below him, his body rent apart with an almost surgical precision. My belly churned,

/-Alora-/The only sounds in the clearing were the heavy breaths of the fighters and the soft rustling of the leaves. It was creepy that the creature's ash was still in the air, telling us of the recent fight. My hands still shook with the power flowing through me as the last few flames fizzled and then went out.His eyes looked deep into my soul, looking for things I didn't even know I had. "Alora, talk to me," he begged in a quiet, pressing tone."What do you want me to say?" I growled, and the high energy level made my words sharper. "That I knew this was going to happen?" Do I understand any of it? I don't because..."Celia took a step closer, her face covering worry and caution. "Please answer, Alora. That creature targeted you. It knew your name. Why?"I don't know!" I screamed, my voice breaking under it all. "All I know is this curse, power is wrapped inside me in ways I couldn't say. But I didn't ask for this."Randall's jaw had tightened, yet his voice came softer. "Then we

/-Alora-/The stillness after Allison had left was overwhelming. The heavy cloud she had brought in had cleared, but the discomfort stayed, clinging to me like a straitjacket. I couldn't get over what she said: "You've opened the door." You'll have to cope with whatever comes through."What does she mean?" I inquired, my tone barely above a whisper.Randall's jaw tightened, his gaze moving around the clear side as if she may appear at any minute. "She's playing with us; she's trying to unsettle us.""But what if it isn't?" I responded, my voice rising as my chest tightened from terror. "What if I did? unlock something?"Randall looked at me, his eyes both irritated and alarmed. "Alora, listen to me. This curse, the visions, and the power are all meant to drive you mad. To consume you. It is not going to happen. It was easy for him to say that he wasn't experiencing anarchy inside of him, ready to burst forth at the most inconvenient moment. /-Alora-/His presence was like an old wound reopening, terrible and forceful. He stood in the clearing, and every aspect was a reminder of pain and treachery. My heart raced in my ears, and I clenched my teeth to meet his stare."I knew you'd come back eventually," I murmured, icily calm despite the fury raging within my thoughts.Tyrone pulled his head to face her, smiling weakly. "Alora, did you miss me?" Did you miss the problems I brought with me?Randall snarled low and menacingly, but I lifted my hand to signal stillness. This was my struggle to fight. My past and my anguish."What do you want, Tyrone?" I asked. "You have caused enough damage already."He approached closer, his motions slow and deliberate. "Destroyed? No, Alora. I made you. I made you who you are. Stronger. Sharper. And yet, you cling to this." He gazed at Randall, his expression filled with contempt. "This is a weak way of protection.Randall growled and snarled, but I moved quickly and stood in front of him.

/-Alora-/If he had been there, it would have been a big, green silence—after Tyrone left, even the trees appeared to have held their breath, always murmuring with leaves stirring and evening creatures silent. I could still feel the urgent yet faint hum beneath my feet, like a pulse ready to erupt.Randall stepped forward, standing before me, his eyes dark and deep, studying the shadows as if Tyrone may appear at any time. His palm remained solid and grounded on my arm, but my thoughts were too agitated to burst into tears."Whatever he's planning," Randall remarked quietly, "we'll be ready."I nodded, but I didn't look away from where Tyrone had disappeared. His words echoed within me, accompanied by the curse's perpetual ache: It's awakening."What if he's right?" I had muttered, the words flowing out before my inner editor caught them.Randall turned to me, scowling. "Alora, no. He's attempting to convince you to doubt yourself. /-Alora-/The air in that cave felt so much heavier than before, and I could feel real tension build up in my body. I leaned against the cold stone wall, breathing, trying to still the chaos inside. The last meeting with the mysterious woman was fresh in my head; her words were like acid to me, seeping into every corner of my thoughts and questioning what I believed in."You are the last of your family, Alora—the last of the true Alphas."My fists were clinging, my nails into my hands, as I listened to her voice over and over again. It was no longer about revenge; it was about fate now.I heard the steps behind me that were coming from the tunnel and tensed up, ready for any danger. A figure of Randall emerged from behind the shadows, looking everywhere with a stern expression; usually, he had been full of life, but now he sounded a little diffident."Alora," he said softly, the edge gone from his voice. "You haven't said much.""I'm thinking," I said shortly, turning my face away fr

/Alora/The peaceful night stretched before us, revealing numerous stars that unfurled like small light forecasts for our future. Randall and I sat on a hill that offered breathtaking views of our growing piece of land, which had become our true home. We gazed at the beautiful full moon as the woods extended over the valley, presenting complete routes to our village across ancient rifts. It was now calm. It was our peace of mind.Randall's body heat comforted me as I relaxed against him, allowing the tranquil evening to soak deep into my center. I placed my palm over the intricate tattoo on my wrist to connect with the sacred bond between the ground, our packs, and him. As I viewed our land illuminated by moonlight, I was confident that every step we took had resulted in this beautiful moment. And it was gorgeous. My softly whispered words, "We've been through hell," showed the real truth. We withstood the difficult times together because we refused to give up, and as a result, we

/Alora/A heavy atmosphere of joy filled the festival space, along with numerous life energies coursing through its grounds as I strolled among the crowded visitors. Since ancient times, this festival has commemorated peace and memory under the official name of the "Festival of Unity." Every pack territory within our boundaries, as well as pack territories from nearby territories, came together for a unique celebration in honor of Lila's lingering spirit. Throughout the event, we honored the alliance between the SilverClaw and Night Terrors packs, which has grown stronger since their original bond via conflict. My ears were overwhelmed with the sweet noises the children produced as they raced by. Because the long-standing hatred between us was no longer there, the once bitter enemies from both packs reunited as a unit in an unhindered celebration. The scene was quite amazing to see. They were unaware of how their ancestors had previously overcome adversity and endured bodily suffe

/Alora/The night was filled with silence. The only sound was the rustling of the leaves beneath the weight of the moonlight as the wind swept through the trees like the moan of an old, tired soul. It was a welcome sound, and the forest—so familiar to me—always gave me a sense of calm. However, tonight felt different. The ambush had left a mark on me. The loss and uncertainty were nearly too much to endure. Every time I closed my eyes, I saw the expressions of people I couldn't protect. I could still hear the echo of Lila's laughter in my head, a sound that felt distant and unreachable now.I needed to find some comfort, even if just for a moment. The grave was just ahead. I didn't need to search; I already knew where it was. I had been there several times since the night Lila was taken from me.I kneeled by it, resting my palm on the cool stone and allowing the weight of my sadness to subside for a while. I hadn't been able to truly grieve previously. The battle, the pack, and the b

/Alora/The air smelled of smoke, blood, and betrayal. I stood in the center of what was left of the ritual grounds; the ashes of the sacred bonfire spread across the earth like a terrible metaphor for the vows made just hours before. Wolves hurried to help the injured, their frightened shouts breaking over the crackling of remaining flames. My hands were coated with filth and blood, some of it mine, not all. My breaths were short and weak, but I refused to falter."Ethan, secure the perimeter," I said, my voice as keen as the dagger strapped to my thigh. "Kayla, please prioritize wounds. "Nobody dies on my watch today.""On it," they said in unison, their expressions a combination of resolve and fatigue.Randall's presence behind me was like a shadow, his protective instincts tightening in the aftermath of the attack. His voice was low, but it carried the weight of a storm barely contained. "This wasn't a random attack, Alora.""I know," I said, turning my attention to the wolves

/Alora/My breathing became louder than the vision breaking my focus with its rough and irregular rhythm that made me feel like I tore through endless forest paths. My heart thundered in my chest, an unrelenting beat that echoed the warning still ringing in my ears: Maintain the bond, or else this connection will destroy you.The abrupt movement as I stood up revealed my death grip upon the blanket which served as my link to reality. The gloomy light of the moon through curtains provided the only illumination in the room. Beside me, Randall stirred. His usual calm attitude tonight seemed to create a heavy powerlessness. When his eyes met mine he slowly awakened. His voice came from the darkness low and thick while still sleepy. “Another vision?”My voice reduced to a soft minimum as I replied "Yes." “And it’s getting worse, Randall. The voices... They’re louder. Different voices are giving us warnings about the approaching dangers.“What did you see?” His face remained calm but a m

Her low words are muffled by grief, and a single tear falls down her cheek. "I never stopped loving you."Maris' remarks begin to weigh heavily on Alora and Randall's bond. /Alora/A solid weight settled above us, and moist aromas mixed with tight energy filled the space where the wolves gathered.Everyone in the room kept a careful eye on me as if they expected something from me. Randall stood next to me, his posture constant, power emanating from his shape, and his clenched jaw revealing his turbulent buried emotions. The conclusion of our bonding procedure meant that the Night Terrors and SilverClaw packs would unite their clans under our control. Dark shadows appeared at the edges of my mind, signifying oncoming societal instability at this divinely critical time.I took one step forward. When Randall's fingers brushed across mine, the subsequent touch kept me focused on the present moment. When I gazed into his eyes, I saw nothing but peace, aside from power. This was it. /Alora/The bright morning light cut through the shades of the night to separate the stress that was building up around the Night Terror fortress. In front of the mirror stood someone who looked a lot like me but also seemed like a stranger. As part of SilverClaw tradition and to add some dark elements from the Night Terrors, a second robe stuck to my whole body. A ceremonial robe meant to unite together two packs and two wolves made me feel like I couldn't believe it, and I thought I was going to pass out.The person in the mirror appeared confident yet empty on the inside. Because I was trying hard to understand an idea that was still beyond my understanding, something important seemed to be missing. I was caught in a fog as I went back and forth between wanting things and fearing them at the same time.I was swept out of my thoughts when Kayla spoke in a calm but authoritative tone. The calm forest outside my window caught my attention as I stood looking out but the darkness there made me consider my future challenges.Throughout the day different people presented their choices between awe and fear joined with hesitant acceptance while bowing before me. Fundamentally changing our pack's direction still made the future path appear unpredictable than ever. Leadership included more than acquiring wins through the duty to handle every decision's effects and results. The gentle sound of knocking on the door blew me out of my thoughts.Turning toward the door I spoke my offer "Come in.".When Randall entered the room his whole attitude easily filled every corner.
