/-Alora-/

The air in that cave felt so much heavier than before, and I could feel real tension build up in my body. I leaned against the cold stone wall, breathing, trying to still the chaos inside.

The last meeting with the mysterious woman was fresh in my head; her words were like acid to me, seeping into every corner of my thoughts and questioning what I believed in.

"You are the last of your family, Alora—the last of the true Alphas."

My fists were clinging, my nails into my hands, as I listened to her voice over and over again. It was no longer about revenge; it was about fate now.

I heard the steps behind me that were coming from the tunnel and tensed up, ready for any danger. A figure of Randall emerged from behind the shadows, looking everywhere with a stern expression; usually, he had been full of life, but now he sounded a little diffident.

"Alora," he said softly, the edge gone from his voice. "You haven't said much."

"I'm thinking," I said shortly, turning my face away fr

/-Alora-/ Victor's words rang in my head like a bell that warned of death. It was hard to breathe because the air was so thick. The heart was beating loudly, drowning everything else, even the quiet, in its loud trumpeting—except those four words: He'll kill them.Randall's face darkened totally, and his hands were bunched at his sides. I could almost feel how mad he was; it was like a storm that was about to happen. But the feeling that stood out the most was fear. It's not often that Randall gets scared, but this scared him.“I’m not making any deals with Tyrone,” Randall said furiously, his voice quiet and serious. “If he thinks he can force us, he will be very surprised.”Victor leaned against the wall and smiled as if he was sure of himself. He pretended like this was going to be the longest wait of his life. "Randall, you can act tough, but we both know what's at stake." Tyrone has nothing to lose. He will ruin your pack if you don't help. Every one of them."My heart churned.

Alora's POVLucien's smirk seemed to hang in the air, a kind of threat, his words replaying in my head as we made our way back toward the Night Terrors' territory. To lead the charge was a death sentence cloaked in pretty deceit. But a deal was a deal.I had to keep them all alive, even if it killed me.Randall walked beside me, silent but seething with anger. His body was coiled, as taut as a spring, his muscles tense. The moonlight cut across his face in harsh lines, the anger dancing in his eyes. Since leaving Lucien's camp, he had not said a word, but I could feel the storm brewing inside him."I had no choice," I finally admitted, breaking the silence.Sourly, he said, "You always have options," and looked away.I stopped and spun, making him spin with me. "Really? What choice do I have, Randall? Let Tyrone slaughter the entire pack? Watch more innocent people die because of me?""You think Lucien's any better?" His voice was low; dangerous. "He'll betray us the moment it suits h

/-Alora-/The shockwave landed hard, quaking my bones. I swayed, squinting my eyes against the bright light that enveloped the battlefield. For that instant, everything was still while the chaos inside my head turned down the loud sounds of the fight. My wolf growled uneasily, willing and ready to launch an attack on whatever this was; I just could not clear my head.I could hardly stand. As the light vanished, it left in the air a shiny mist; my heart sank. Right in the middle of that battlefield, a huge crack appeared, dark and scary. It was as if reality tore it open, showing something different behind a world I couldn't fully understand."Alora!" Randall's voice cut through the muddle in my head.I turned to him. Still standing upright, he was covered in blood, his eyes wide with fear as shock and anger froze upon his face. "What is that?" he shouted, pointing at the rift."I don't know," I said, my voice hoarse. "But I just don't think we're ready for it."He laughed loudly fro

/-Alora-/I struggled through a chain of activities whirled in a haze about me, my breath coming in great, ragged gasps, while my mind whipped thoughts at me from every direction. It was as if some instinct had taken over my body alone, urging it to flee from oncoming danger looming, ready to overwhelm in its wake.Still, the cold, gnawing fear that clawed at my chest whispered to me that the real fight was not outside on the field, that it was here in this camp, where the crack might split us asunder unless we acted timely.Randall’s voice lingered in my mind, his final words resonating through the relentless pounding in my ears: “You’re the only one who can stop this.”But how?How might I have hoped to stop that which had been so long in coming? Lucien had known; he had engineered it all, and now the demons were coming, inexorably summoned by the rift, fluttering toward the light like moths about an electric flame. We cannot shut it; find some means of severing that bond to that

/-Alora-/Lucien spoke harsh words to the camp and hearing his voice twist the word cut through my guts like a knife. “You’ve lost.” The words he said sank deep in my ears, each word more painful than the prick of any knife. How could he say that? After everything?I clenched my hand around the air in front of me, and I felt the beat of the rip beneath me. The energy was wild, like the electric current kept reeled up, ready to leave. But there was something else, something in the way he stood there, too calm, too confident, that struck her as odd. This man already appeared to understand something I had yet to find.I noticed this and tried to breathe deeply to calm myself. Focus, Alora. Sometimes, I could feel my wolf—that animalistic urge that had always been a part of me but had always been so well hidden. But there was something else now—something more. One—a link that is strong and unbreakable—to the split itself. And that, I understood, I could shut it, to pull the plug on wh

/-Alora-/It was quiet, painfully so, after the events that led to the destruction of the split.Everywhere it was quiet, even the sound of my breathing seemed loud in my ears, as if the noise that followed the bursts of light was missing. It was difficult to determine whether it was my moving head or whether the world around me was changing as a result of everything that had happened. My hands shook, the energy of the split running through my blood still, but there was a malicious undertone. In the attempt to get up from the floor, I noticed that the world was still spinning, and I fell off the floor again. My knees fell from under me, and I started choking as if my airways were closed; I could barely see. What had just happened? Had I done it? Had I truly sealed the rift? That last burst had felt like something ripping from the very core of my soul, some part of me that had been linked to the rift for far too long. But now… now I wasn’t sure. I was sure of only one thing: the pull

/-Alora-/The moon hung high in the forest, above the trees and Randall's and my head. It gave off a pale glow. The air around me was tense, and the sound of the wind whistling through the branches made my heart beat faster. My heart was beating fast because of Tyrone, the choices I had, or maybe the truth that was slowly killing me.Randall was sitting next to me, but I could feel him a million miles away. I could feel how hot he was and how stiff his shoulders were, but his eyes were closed and looked like they were looking far away. When Tyrone's shadow showed up, it seemed like the connection we had made with him at the start of our meeting was instantly broken.I went over to tell him and asked him what he thought he was doing, but the words didn't make sense to me. I couldn't ask him to reassure me when I was completely lost in thought. When could I trust him when just being around him every day was a scandal that reminded me of how long I've been caught in a web of lies?Si

/-Alora-/The air was so thick that it was hard to breathe when I saw the figure in front of me. It was lit by the moonlight and its eyes were empty. But every cell in my body told me to run away, fight, and get the hell out of there, but I couldn't move. It felt like I was locked up right there."What are you?" Even though my voice was shaking, I didn't want to seem weak. Given how much I had already lost, I didn't need to show fear right now.I started to see the figure more clearly through the fog that was blocking my view as it got closer. It was the person who should have been a memory. I remembered the man’s face, but age had marred it, changed it. His eyes used to look young, but they were mean and narrowed, and his hair was getting thinner and whiter. But there was no doubt of it. Even though I hadn't seen him in a few years, I knew right away who it was.“Alora.” The figure muttered, and the mere mention of my name on his lips brought an unusual shiver down my spine. “It’s m

/Alora/The peaceful night stretched before us, revealing numerous stars that unfurled like small light forecasts for our future. Randall and I sat on a hill that offered breathtaking views of our growing piece of land, which had become our true home. We gazed at the beautiful full moon as the woods extended over the valley, presenting complete routes to our village across ancient rifts. It was now calm. It was our peace of mind.Randall's body heat comforted me as I relaxed against him, allowing the tranquil evening to soak deep into my center. I placed my palm over the intricate tattoo on my wrist to connect with the sacred bond between the ground, our packs, and him. As I viewed our land illuminated by moonlight, I was confident that every step we took had resulted in this beautiful moment. And it was gorgeous. My softly whispered words, "We've been through hell," showed the real truth. We withstood the difficult times together because we refused to give up, and as a result, we

/Alora/A heavy atmosphere of joy filled the festival space, along with numerous life energies coursing through its grounds as I strolled among the crowded visitors. Since ancient times, this festival has commemorated peace and memory under the official name of the "Festival of Unity." Every pack territory within our boundaries, as well as pack territories from nearby territories, came together for a unique celebration in honor of Lila's lingering spirit. Throughout the event, we honored the alliance between the SilverClaw and Night Terrors packs, which has grown stronger since their original bond via conflict. My ears were overwhelmed with the sweet noises the children produced as they raced by. Because the long-standing hatred between us was no longer there, the once bitter enemies from both packs reunited as a unit in an unhindered celebration. The scene was quite amazing to see. They were unaware of how their ancestors had previously overcome adversity and endured bodily suffe

/Alora/The night was filled with silence. The only sound was the rustling of the leaves beneath the weight of the moonlight as the wind swept through the trees like the moan of an old, tired soul. It was a welcome sound, and the forest—so familiar to me—always gave me a sense of calm. However, tonight felt different. The ambush had left a mark on me. The loss and uncertainty were nearly too much to endure. Every time I closed my eyes, I saw the expressions of people I couldn't protect. I could still hear the echo of Lila's laughter in my head, a sound that felt distant and unreachable now.I needed to find some comfort, even if just for a moment. The grave was just ahead. I didn't need to search; I already knew where it was. I had been there several times since the night Lila was taken from me.I kneeled by it, resting my palm on the cool stone and allowing the weight of my sadness to subside for a while. I hadn't been able to truly grieve previously. The battle, the pack, and the b

  • The Ex-Luna's Revenge   Chapter 97: Forging the Future

/Alora/The air smelled of smoke, blood, and betrayal. I stood in the center of what was left of the ritual grounds; the ashes of the sacred bonfire spread across the earth like a terrible metaphor for the vows made just hours before. Wolves hurried to help the injured, their frightened shouts breaking over the crackling of remaining flames. My hands were coated with filth and blood, some of it mine, not all. My breaths were short and weak, but I refused to falter."Ethan, secure the perimeter," I said, my voice as keen as the dagger strapped to my thigh. "Kayla, please prioritize wounds. "Nobody dies on my watch today.""On it," they said in unison, their expressions a combination of resolve and fatigue.Randall's presence behind me was like a shadow, his protective instincts tightening in the aftermath of the attack. His voice was low, but it carried the weight of a storm barely contained. "This wasn't a random attack, Alora.""I know," I said, turning my attention to the wolves

/Alora/My breathing became louder than the vision breaking my focus with its rough and irregular rhythm that made me feel like I tore through endless forest paths. My heart thundered in my chest, an unrelenting beat that echoed the warning still ringing in my ears: Maintain the bond, or else this connection will destroy you.The abrupt movement as I stood up revealed my death grip upon the blanket which served as my link to reality. The gloomy light of the moon through curtains provided the only illumination in the room. Beside me, Randall stirred. His usual calm attitude tonight seemed to create a heavy powerlessness. When his eyes met mine he slowly awakened. His voice came from the darkness low and thick while still sleepy. “Another vision?”My voice reduced to a soft minimum as I replied "Yes." “And it’s getting worse, Randall. The voices... They’re louder. Different voices are giving us warnings about the approaching dangers.“What did you see?” His face remained calm but a m

Walking away from you was the worst mistake of my life. I told myself that I could find happiness with him, but I realized my mistake.Randall, he's gone now. He's died. And I..." Her low words are muffled by grief, and a single tear falls down her cheek. "I never stopped loving you."Maris' remarks begin to weigh heavily on Alora and Randall's bond. /Alora/A solid weight settled above us, and moist aromas mixed with tight energy filled the space where the wolves gathered.Everyone in the room kept a careful eye on me as if they expected something from me. Randall stood next to me, his posture constant, power emanating from his shape, and his clenched jaw revealing his turbulent buried emotions. The conclusion of our bonding procedure meant that the Night Terrors and SilverClaw packs would unite their clans under our control. Dark shadows appeared at the edges of my mind, signifying oncoming societal instability at this divinely critical time.I took one step forward. When Randall's fingers brushed across mine, the subsequent touch kept me focused on the present moment. When I gazed into his eyes, I saw nothing but peace, aside from power. This was it. /Alora/The bright morning light cut through the shades of the night to separate the stress that was building up around the Night Terror fortress. In front of the mirror stood someone who looked a lot like me but also seemed like a stranger. As part of SilverClaw tradition and to add some dark elements from the Night Terrors, a second robe stuck to my whole body. A ceremonial robe meant to unite together two packs and two wolves made me feel like I couldn't believe it, and I thought I was going to pass out.The person in the mirror appeared confident yet empty on the inside. Because I was trying hard to understand an idea that was still beyond my understanding, something important seemed to be missing. I was caught in a fog as I went back and forth between wanting things and fearing them at the same time.I was swept out of my thoughts when Kayla spoke in a calm but authoritative tone. The calm forest outside my window caught my attention as I stood looking out but the darkness there made me consider my future challenges.Throughout the day different people presented their choices between awe and fear joined with hesitant acceptance while bowing before me. Fundamentally changing our pack's direction still made the future path appear unpredictable than ever. Leadership included more than acquiring wins through the duty to handle every decision's effects and results. The gentle sound of knocking on the door blew me out of my thoughts.Turning toward the door I spoke my offer "Come in.".When Randall entered the room his whole attitude easily filled every corner.
