I can hear the frustration in Taran’s voice, “Tru, where is this coming from all of a sudden? What did the hound say or do to scare you? Whatever it is, I won’t let him touch you….”

“He pointed out that I’m just your whore, then he offered me money for… my services. Bryan explained that he did it to show how you thought of me.”

Taran was quiet for a moment. I could feel the tension roll off him. Finally, he spoke, “Tru, look at me.” I continue facing out. I don’t want to look him in the eyes. Taran moves so he’s hovering over me. The stance isn’t intimidating but protective and sweet. Putting his hand on my cheek, Taran coaxes me to look at him. When I finally do, he asks, “Have I ever offered you money in exchange for sexual acts?”

“You pay my bills so you can sleep with me and take my energy,” I tell him in a defeated voice.

Taran's voice is soo

  • The Dragon's Stone   More than it seems

I stare at Taran. My thoughts seem to stop, and the numbness has completely taken hold. “I don’t know. My mind was racing, but all my thoughts have now stopped.”Taran’s suggestion of a temporary claim stuns me. His willingness to risk outsiders knowing he’s a dragon is surprising. Especially since he is risking it to save me from a possible life of misery. In a soothing voice, Taran says, “It’s overwhelming.” He is still hovering over me with a look I’ve never noticed from him before. I’m not sure what it means. Taran normally looks stoic and emotionless. This look isn’t. There is emotion—a tenderness in his eyes that conveys his sincerity of protecting me at all cost.I still can’t manage to say anything. My mind is numb. The questions I should ask aren’t pushing through. Even if they did, I don’t think my voice would ask them.“I’ll make you some tea a

WARNING! The scene described in this chapter contains a power exchange that could be triggering for some readers.TaranI don’t find Tru’s human friend, Brittany, threatening so I tell her my real name. If she’s around a lot I don’t want Tru to slip up and call me by my name instead of the alias. It will raise more questions than just allowing her to think she remembered the wrong name now.The three of us sit on the couch to watch movies after making “snacks” which is odd to me. Tru pours everyone a glass of wine and Brittany brings bowls of food. One has popcorn, the other is pretzels. As the first movie drags on, I find myself watching Tru. I’m a little annoyed with her. We have a lot to talk about and instead we are watching something mindless with her friend. I know Tru was overwhelmed and need time to process the information I gave her, but I still feel we should talk more. Okay, maybe not talk, I want to co

  • The Dragon's Stone   Claim

This morning I woke to find Taran’s head on me and one of his arms around me. I lightly run my fingers through his hair. There are not many men in this world that can pull off the “Prince Charming” look, but Taran does. His hair is curly and silky but not at all frizzy. His strong jaw and broad shoulders make him seem powerful. And his blue eyes make me feel safe.I continue stroking his hair until he begins to stir. As I pull my arm away, he says, “Don’t stop. I found your petting soothing.” Taran sounds groggy.Taran begins to shift, and I think he’s about to move off me. Soon, I realize he was only adjusting. Taran’s arm adjusts, so it’s now under my body before snuggling back on my chest. He moves his head and makes a sound of satisfaction. I let out a sigh, “Taran, I thought you were going to let me get up, not pin me down more.”I can feel his smile against me as he responds, “But this

  • The Dragon's Stone   No record

TaranI’ve spent two days going through archives, scrolls, and other text, trying to explain what I saw. It felt like a memory, but it couldn’t possibly be a memory. The vision was of me claiming Tru, but she was a couple of years younger, and we were in my cove. It can’t be a memory. Tru and I met only a few weeks ago, and I’ve never taken anyone to my cove. There must be an explanation, but what is it.It couldn’t be a vision of the future because it was happening in the present. I was actively claiming Tru, so why did my mind take me somewhere else? Why didn’t I stay focused like normal?Running my fingers through my hair, I sigh. My eyes hurt, and I don’t feel any closer to answers. It’s already a day past when I told Tru that I would return. I’m sure she’s worried and angry. She felt rejected when I left. I don’t blame her, and I would feel the same way. I can’t believe I left wi

  • The Dragon's Stone   How did he get through the door?

I finish up on Thursday and lock up to find Taran next to my car. Since he came back, things are different. I can’t explain it, but something is different in him.Tonight we are flying to see Willow. I’m nervous but also excited. I don’t know what to expect or if she will even be friendly towards us. From the little information I gathered through the ancient dragon texts, Willow only wants peace in the forest. She comes off as unyielding, but if we present information that will aid the forest, she will gladly partner with us.Taran smiles as I approach, “How was work, dove?”I smile back, “It was an easy day. Just a few check-ups.” I unlocked my car and gestured for him to get inside, “Ready?” We plan to drive out to a heavily wooded area for Taran to shift. I pack a bag this morning with a few items we might need. Each of us has a change of clothing, and I brought some snacks and bottles of water and a first

  • The Dragon's Stone   An eventful flight

TaranTru fell asleep on the flight to the isle. Her words from earlier seem to echo in my mind. How did Brehm get into the temple without anyone catching him? Did a dragon take the stone? Why did the companions die? Were they forced? Who would want to hurt them, and why?Tru never mentioned Jonat’s name, and yet I immediately thought of her. I turn to look at Tru. I’m not sure why I find her sleeping so amusing. Tru sighs and smiles in her sleep. Every time I watch her, a warm feeling develops in my chest. Maybe my emotions for Tru are clouding the way I feel for Jonat, and now I’m looking for a reason to get rid of her. But after everything Jonat has done to help search for the stone and standing by me, could I leave her for a human?I turn away from Tru, but my mind doesn’t stop wondering. What would happen if Tru became my queen? She’s intelligent, kind, selfless, everything a good leader should be. If the dragons gave her a cha

  • The Dragon's Stone   Willow

Taran I carry Tru in my arms as I follow the hydra. She passed out after asking what happened. Our clothes are soaked, even the ones in the bag, so I left them hanging in a tree to dry. I took the backpack to easily carry Tru, Willow’s gift, and supplies to take care of Tru when she wakes. It took some convincing, but the hydra agreed to take me to Willow. They take me deeper into the woods, and I wonder if bringing Tru was a bad idea. She’s fragile and could easily get hurt. If it came down to a fight, Tru would only slow me down. Like with the griffins, if she weren’t with me, the fight would’ve taken half the time. The forest clears, and a large willow tree sits in the middle of the clearing. I watch her face appear, “Well, look who it is? To what do I owe the honor, former crown prince? I already told your mother everything I know. You’re wasting my….” Willow looks with interest at Tru. Instinctively, I press Tru closer to me. “You’ve spoken with

  • The Dragon's Stone   Home, sweet home

I wake the following day in Taran’s arms. His grip is tight around my waist like he’s worried that I will run away if he lets go. I roll towards him and lightly trace his strong jaw with my fingers. Taran looks peaceful when he sleeps. It isn’t long before Taran’s blue eyes open to meet mine. A smile spreads across his face, and in a groggy voice, he says, “Good morning, dove. How are you feeling this morning?”I smile back at him, “I’m good. What happened last night?” I ask, a little confused.Taran strokes my cheek, “What is the last thing you remember?”“You were getting my bag with the first aid kit, and then you yelled something. I couldn’t hear you. I was about to ask you if you would repeat it. Suddenly my skin felt like it was burning to be touched. All I could think about was feeling your hands on me.”Taran nods, “The hydra here sing a song similar t

  • The Dragon's Stone   Taran's View After Getting Tru Part 1

TaranI finally have Tru back home with me. She wasn’t herself at first. It is clear she barely remembers our dreams, but she remembers enough to recognize me.I shouldn’t have threatened Tru about having my heir. I just needed the damn wall she built around herself gone. I needed Tru, my Tru, and I only knew one way to find her.The first time I ever saw Tru, really saw her, was our first time in that hotel. Somehow sex broke down our walls. It was always like that. Anytime that wolf hurt her, Cindy angered her, or she felt sadness of her mother, I found Tru during sex. It broke down every barrier. The same was true for me. Anytime the pressures or frustrations got to me, Tru knew how to break through to me.Our first time back together, Tru asked me to be gentle. It was unlike her. That’s when I noticed the fear in her eyes. I realized then how much Tru was hiding, not just from me, but herself. That is why I gave her a fantasy. There were minor differences, but the main part of Tru

  • The Dragon's Stone   Enchanted Pool

We walk back to the house. There is a small stairway on the other side of a large, empty room. We descend into a room where a pool resides. There are no windows, but stones in the wall seem to glow. I approach one, my fingers gently glide over it. The stone flickers. I hear music. The stones seem to be humming. All the stones flicker one by one, playing a melody that seemed so familiar, but I couldn’t place.“Now they are going to show off for you,” Taran says with amusement.I can’t help but smile. “What song is this?”Taran shakes his head, “I cannot hear them, I can only see them.”My smile fades. “Really?”Taran nods, “You were blessed by the spirits. You can see and hear things others cannot.”I shrug, “I’m not good with magic. I used to make smoke animals to entertain children, but their parents felt uncomfortable with it, so I stopped. Then I tried at home, but after a few mishaps, it was strongly advised that I didn’t continue”.“Show me,” Taran says.I feel slightly embarrass

  • The Dragon's Stone   You look like a king

We land on the beach near our house. I struggle to climb off Taran, but he uses his tail to help me. After Taran passes me the box, he steps away. “Wait,” I stammer.Taran pauses, watching me closely. I put the box on the ground. “I haven’t gotten a good look at you. This is the real you, right?” I asked gesturing towards him.A grumble, then Taran’s bends his head so his gaze meets mine. I extend my hand out to touch him but quickly recoil. “I’m sorry. I forgot that it is rude to pet someone.”Another grumble, followed by something gripping me around the waist. I’m pulled towards the dragon. If my hands were not in front of me then I would have slammed into him, face first.“You don’t mind me touching you?” I asked. Taran shakes his head. My fingers trace the red scales varying in hue. Some are bright red, some scarlet, other a blood red all with thin golden marbling. “You’re beautiful,” I whisper. I look up into Taran’s reddish-orange eyes. “And you’re warm. I assumed you would feel

  • The Dragon's Stone   Reunited with the family Part 2

“She used you to get to me?” I asked. David nods. A look of shame washes over his face. “I’m sorry you were put in that position,” I tell him.David nods, “I’m sorry I let her manipulate me.”Something inside me seems to break. Looking at Taran, I ask, “Will it ever stop?”Taran shakes his head, “No, but I’m never letting you go again.” Taran squeezes my hand, “That is why I made a home for us. I put wards around our home to protect you.”“It doesn’t end with me, does it? What about the heir you desperately want?” I demanded.“Without an heir, the dragons will die. They will fight for power until they kill each other, leaving the world open to all the night creatures to kill. The water, the ground, and even the air will become poisoned.” Taran’s eyes soften, “I know you’re worried about the future, but I promise you if we decide to ignore our destiny, the future is much worse.”I stare at Taran, “They will never be a child. Someone will always be trying to hurt them or take advantage

  • The Dragon's Stone   Reunited with the family Part 1

“Trudy-bug,” my father cries when he sees me. He hugs me so tightly that I can barely breathe. “I was worried you would never want to see me again.”“I’m sorry, Dad,” I say as tears start to stream down my face.“No. No. I’m sorry. I should’ve listened to you about Cindy,” my father said.“What happened?” I asked. My father shakes his head, “It’s not important now. All that matters is that you’re safe.” He motions towards a house, “Come, I will have everyone over soon to say hello.”Taran stands next to me after shifting back into his human form. My father smiles and offers him a hand, “Taran, thank you for bringing her home.”Taran accepts my father's hand, “Tru’s home is with me. Once she is settled, I will take her to learn from the spirits. She will likely be gone a year or more.”“You’re sending me away?” I asked surprised.Taran nods, “When I can no longer teach you, yes. I will visit you often.”“I am not losing another year with my family,” I replied.“We will not discuss this

  • The Dragon's Stone   I don't like flying

“I really don’t like flying,” I protest as Taran and I pack for the trip to my family’s island.“You were meant to soar, little dove.” Taran replies. His arms wrap around my waist from behind, “You are a mate to a dragon. Trust me, soon you will love being above the clouds.”I lean back against his chest. “What does my family think of all this?”Taran kisses the side of my head, “They don’t completely understand, but they know I will keep you safe at all costs.”“When will the dragons no longer see me as a threat? How long will we stay here?” I asked.I hear the smile in Taran’s voice. “Not even two days and you’re wanting to leave.”“It’s not that,” I argue. “I miss seeing people living their daily lives. Not cowering from me in fear or kissing up to me.”“The dragons will kiss up to you a lot, when they aren’t scheming your death.”I snort, “You forget I lived with wolves.”“One day, I will bow at your feet and beg for forgiveness at letting those animals take you,” Taran murmurs in

  • The Dragon's Stone   Punishment

Taran grabs my dress and tears it down the middle—the dress pools at my feet before I can react. Taran grabs my wrists and pulls me towards the bed. Using his body weight to hold me in place, he bends me over the bed, holding my wrist behind my back. I struggle to get away until his free hand comes down on my bottom, causing a terrible sting. The impact stops my struggle. With a gentle touch, Taran soothes my back cheek. His voice is calm, but stern: “No clothes in the bed, dove. I want to feel your soft skin against me when we are in bed. I would prefer you naked at all times, but I have compromised and even provided you with clothes.” Taran removes his hand before bringing it down on the other cheek.“Ow,” I cry. I’m sure Taran has left his handprint on both sides of my bottom. “I won’t wear clothes in bed again my dragon.”“Why should I believe you, dove?” Taran asked. His hand slowly moves down the back of my thigh, then up the inside. Without thinking, I spread my legs wider for

I sit at the foot of the bed, watching the storm. The bedroom lights are dim, and I can see the waves crashing onto the shore as the lightning flashes. My back faces the door to the hall as I stare out the window. “You’re not supposed to wear clothes in bed,” Taran says, causing me to jump. I didn’t mean to startle you,” he adds while walking toward me. He removes his clothes before sitting opposite me. Taran hands me a package wrapped in paper: “I brought you a present.”“Thank you,” I reply.I unwrap the package to find a magic book as Taran explains, “I know you didn’t get to practice a lot of magic in the last couple of years. If you are interested, I can help you.”“I didn’t know dragons could use magic,” I reply while flipping through the book.“You will surpass me in a few months, but I can use magic. Most dragons have a natural magic, and the royal dragons can use spells.” Taran shrugs, “We can make charms and potions too, but I’m not very good.”“I would appreciate any help y

  • The Dragon's Stone   Rolling Thunder

A loud crash of thunder jolts me from my sleep. The lightening brightens the room momentarily, and I find myself alone. A dim light seeps in from under the door. As I sit up, the room begins to brighten. I open the chest where Taran got the dress out and find that it is full of sundresses. I pick one and go out into the hall.Taran stands in the kitchen, cooking. He is dressed in a cotton shirt and board shorts. “Hello,” I say awkwardly.Turning towards me, Taran shows no emotion on his face. “Hello, dove. How did you sleep?”“I slept great until the thunder. What about you?”Taran is back, facing the food. “I didn’t sleep, there is much for me to do.”“What are you making? Can I help?” I offer.“It’s almost ready. Why don’t you set the table?”I nod and start looking for plates and utensils. “What do you want to drink?” I asked.“Just water,” he replies.I find glasses and fill them. Taran brings the food to the table, and we sit down to eat. “It smells nice,” I say with a smile.Tar
