Chapter six

Melanie gulped hard immediately as his face moved more closer to her.

"Look at your face, all red, where you expecting me to kiss you or what?" He asked and Melanie pushed him off.

"I'm not blushing!" She snarled at him.

"I didnt say you were but you admitted it yourself, you find me handsome right?" He asked with a smirk and she hissed.

 

"i dont like you at all!" She snapped at him amd he nodded.

"Fine then, follow me.." He said.

"Sir..." Melanie said unsure.

Dan sighed and turned to look at her. 

"I said you should follow me!" He snapped and she nodded and followed behind him secretly rolling her eyes. 

They walked for a while until he stopped and faced her. He turned right and walked towards a room. He gently opened the door and walked in closely followed by Melanie.

A patient was lying on the bed. His/ her back turned backwards, but as soon asthe person heard footsteps, he/she jumped up immediately. Melanie gasped upon seeing her face. 

She knew her, yeah! She is a very famous and popular singer in South Korea. Her name is what again. Yeah! It's Rose!'

"Doc Dan" She said and flashed a smile at him.

"Good afternoon Rose, how are you doing?!"Dan asked as he used his stethoscope to check her heartbeat.

"I'm fine, it's just the headache" She said and he nodded.

Melanie who was still dumbfounded stood watching.

"Take notes Melanie" Dan scolded and scoffed.

"But Sir,,, Isn't she Rose. The famous singer? What's she doing here?!" Melanie asked.

"Just shut it!" He snapped and faced her.

"You have to listen to instructions!" He said and Melanie scoffed.

"Doc Dan, I thought you are to assist me in my profession but taking notes, isn't the the work of a nurse" She said and Dan immediately faced her.

"What did you just say?" He asked sending cold glares towards her but Melanie wasn't moved at all by it.

"It's my right to ask Doc Dan!" She stated firmly and he scoffed loudly. 

"You're really getting on my nerves Doc Melanie. Do you know,,,,

"Yeah, I know. You are Kim Dan, the son of this hospital director but you are still human like us right?" She said and Dan's eyes widened.

"The hell! Who the heck does this lady thinks she is? She was even talking so freely with him in such a manner*

"Are you aware of the consequences of your actions?" He asked.

"Yeah I am,, and I'm,,,"

They were both interrupted by soft giggle and laughter behind him and they both turned to look at Rose who was still laughing and clutching to hem of her shirt.

She slowly stopped laughing and wiped off the traces of tears due to excessive laughter.

"You guys are so funny and at the same time cute. Dan, you've always been civil to me but with her, you show her all your true character" She said and Melanie scoffed.

"Yeah, he always thinks he's right!" She muttered under her breath not knowing Dan heard her.

"And you're so stubborn!" He shot back at her.

"You guys are so cute. You would actually make a good couple" Rose said and both of them looked at her surprised. 

"Hmmn" Dan cleared his throat awkwardly. 

"Let's continue with our discussion and please take notes Doc Melanie" He said sarcastically and Melanie rolled her eyes.

"So since your cancer is neither at his early stage nor its late stage, we have two options to choose from" He said and paused. 

Melanie looked at Rose surprised. She has cancer. 

"And please Doc Melanie, the patient has asked to keep it private. She won't want her fans to know about this" Dan said.

'Sir what type of cancer and what stage is it in?" Melanie asked.

"Brain cancer and it is in stage 2" Doc Dan said .

"But it's spreading fast already, if we don't do something. You know what happens next!" He said and Melanie nodded.

"Now Rose, the two options we have are chemotherapy and surgery.

"During the chemotherapy, you will given different kind of treatment and be monitored closely but unfortunately, it has only a 20% assurance that you will be cured but if you undergo surgery, we have 40% assurance that you will he cured and live a healthy life and 30% possibility that you will die" He said and paused letting the words sink in.

"B,, But if I get better, I would be able to go back to my career" Rose said in a wavering voice.

"Yes of course, you can. I would advice to for surgery since we are not sure that chemotherapy will work here" He said and a tears slipped down from Rose's right eye and Melanie felt pity for her.

"But Doc Dan, the chemotherapy method can still work" Melanie said behind him. 

"I believe so" She added.

"We are doctors Melanie. We are practical. We don't go with beliefs" Dan said and turned to look at her.

"But Doc Dan,,,"

"Say no more Doc Melanie" He said and face Rose.

"The decision is your hands. We will give your sometime to think about it. By evening, we will come back for the scan" He said and smiled and then turned to leave while Melanie followed behind him.

"Doc Dan, we can still try the chemotherapy treatment. It might still work!" She said running after him because he was walking so fast.

"Are you even listening. Doc Dan!" She said but her refused to reply her as he kept on walking.

"She still has a chance to live. We can save her Doc Dan!" She said as Dan opened the door to his office. Without minding, she still followed him, she needs to convince him.

"Doc Dan, why are you adamant. We can still save her. We all know that 70% of those who undergoes surgery don't come out alive" She said but he refused to reply.

"Dan!" She suddenly yelled not knowing when it came out of her mouth and immediately Dan turned back and she gasped. He was sending deadly glares to her.

"Did .you. just.call. me. by. my .name" He said pronouncing the words slowly one after the other.

Melanie immediately stepped back out of fear. She had never been this afraid before but those looks, it looks like he could kill!

As she stepped, he took a step closer his eyes not leaving her face.

He had had enough. She dared call him by his name. The heck! She was just too stubborn. He needs to put her in her place. He didn't know how but he just needed to* He thought his eyes eyes still glued on her.

Melanie tried moving back again when he suddenly held her by her waist and immediately Melanie's eyes widened.

*Gosh! What's he doing? What the heck is he doing!" She thought.

A smirk appeared at the corner of his lips and without notice he pulled her closer which made her eyes widen the more but all the more she still managed to speak.

"W,,, What,,, a,,are you doing?!" She stuttered and he smirked again.

"You were saying something!" He said looking at her face directly and Melanie swore that she had never felt so nervous like this before. She couldn't even bring herself to look at him.

"Hmmn, I was just trying to say that we,,, I mean we should give the chance for the chemotherapy treatment. I,, I didn't"

"Even when I said no. What right do you have to question my decision?!" He asked and immediately that got Melanie angry. 

She immediately looked up at him and said.

"I have every right"
