Sophie's POV
Hours passed. I was beginning to see this as a dream, but the sight of the stainless plate before me kept my hopes high. The water can was still beside me, and I kept staring at it occasionally. If it was truly Lucian I had seen and it wasn't some kind of hallucination, then he was going to come back, I stretched my hands, to reach out for the plate he had used to serve me food, my finger brushed around It, I smeared the oil on the plate between two fingers. My mind journeyed back to my daughter and her well-being, what if he doesn't come back, or worse case, what if he comes back and tells me that she was dead, I didn't know what happened after I was carried to the dungeon, Alexander was under the fingers of my sister, and he was a fool he would kill her if she told him to . My baby was the only reason why I was alive and secondly if I was to be executed, I would die wholeheartedly if I knew she would be fine even if I was dead. While I waited, I heard a familiar step again, my wolf picked it up, immediately making me jerk from where I sat, I held the bars again, my head forcefully pushing its way into the bars. The guards had retired, as I could no longer hear their voices after they were served their evening meal, which also meant if Lucian was to pay a visit again, he could do it. The quiet step proceeded even further, till I got a whiff of his scent, it was him!. My heart began to raise even more, as my hands held the bars so tight. He came closer, I could see his coat now, and soon he was standing before me. “How's she?, please tell me she's fine” tears gushed down my eyes. I held my mouth almost instantly . I had spoken too loud, so I refrained myself from saying anything. “Its fine, you can speak, they are knocked out” he said, his voice had gotten even deeper in the last few years, he was almost unrecognisable, but he was still Lucian, he was reserved and spoke very few words. “Your daughter is safe,” I fell to my knees, my body shuddered as relief coursed through me, I had thought of so many bad things in the past few days, that a little good news was strong enough to cripple me, if anything had happened to my baby, I wouldn't know what to do. “Thank you so much, I wouldn't know what to do without you here!, may the goddess favour you, thanks so much” I cried even more, letting the pain flow out of me. “She still has a low chance of survival” “What?” I rose to my feet, for a moment, I saw his poker face soften, it looked like a different emotion compared to what I had always known him to have, but with a quick wave of his head, he was back to being calm and collected. He clenched his fist, I could see his wolf trying to come out of his body. “Are you okay?” concerned I tried to ask why his wolf was trying so hard to burst out of him. “It's nothing!” he barked at me, I moved backwards in fright, there was something wrong with his wolf, I just didn’t know what it was, but soon enough he was back to normal. “She was left in a dusty basement with no proper treatment, and how long have you known that she had a terminal disease that had been eating her up?” “What?, no, she's fine, she just had a fever, my baby doesn't have such sickness” “Well you are mistaken, and she's seriously sick, but I have doctors checking her to make sure she would end up on a higher chance of survival” I had no idea which was better, the fact that my baby was alive and she was in constant suffering, or the latter which was death. “Thanks ” My knees felt weak, as I fell to the floor. “You don't need to thank me, I didn't do it without a reason” Confused, I paired my eyes at the man before me, “what do you mean?” “I came back to usurp my brother, and you are the only one that can help me,” I was speechless, unable to phantom my next words, one would ask, how can a mildly crippled wolf help an Alpha like him. “How?” “You have to promise me you would help me without questions, if you want your daughter to be alive” “I promise” I didn't even think it through, I just wanted to make sure my little angel was fine, whatever happened in the park afterwards shouldn't even be my business, since everyone around here had betrayed me somehow, they were not my business. “Fine, I would break you out of here soon” I didn't question him one bit, but I still felt concerned about usurping his brother. Earlier when he was told to leave the park and never to return, the goddess had said that he would bring the end to wolf race if he became the alpha, even though he was the strongest wolf with godlike strength, he was still said to result in a mass distraction, but when I looked at him, I saw the man who came to my rescue when the world had turned their back at me. “Okay, I would be waiting” I went back to my seating position, my arms hugging my knees as I reflected on what I had gotten myself into, should I really help him usurp Alexander? “I will protect you, and your daughter, you don't have to worry” his voice was calmer now, and somehow brought tears to my eyes, and I began to cry into my arms again. And just like thin air, I didn't feel him anywhere close to me again. I raised my head to confirm his absence, and indeed he was gone. My heart ached, so I laid on the floor, and waited for him to come back for me, but while I thought about my life decisions I began to hear a series of footsteps like a fleet of soldiers were marching towards me. I quickly stood to my feet, panic aroused in my mind. “Selene!, what have you done!” I heard Alexander's voice. Has he come to kill me?. He approached me, totally infuriated. “Open her cage” he said. A guard came forward then opened the gate to the cage, fear erupted in my mind but I stood my ground, I cleaned the tears brimming down my eyes. He stared at me in disgust, before closing his nose with a napkin. “Where did you take Ella to! Where is she!” he yelled at me. Waving his fingers, some guard surrounded me, one of them kicked my knees, immediately sending me to my knees, the force bruised my knee cap. “Bow before your Alpha” Such disrespect… “Where did you take Ella to!, did you take her out of the park so you can tell the whole park that I didn't take care of her!” For an alpha who was scared of his people's judgment, he was a prick, he should face his people, not me. “Talk now!” “Fuck you” I raised my head then spat directly at him. And just then, a hard slap landed on my face. “How dare you”Selene’s POV Lucian might be the worst wolf in the pack but I was certain Ella would be safer with him than her own father, and as bizarre as it sounds, it was actually the honest truth. “Pull her up” Alexander commanded, I was dragged to my feet, then made to stare at him, his eyes blazed with fury as he glared at me. “Where is Ella?” I kept quiet but didn't break eye contact with him. I wanted him to see how much he could try to break me, he could try as hard as he wanted to, but I wasn't going to break. “I would ask you this question three times, and if you don't give me an answer before the third time, you would really hate what I would do to you” “Where have you taken your daughter to?” “You mean your daughter?” A slap landed on my face, and I was made to look at him again. “Where is Ella?Who knows about her sickness?Who is helping you in this park!” If he cared so much about her then he would have guarded her room, if he cared about what his pack member would think th
Selene's POV The pain was nonexistent for a blissful minute, I couldn’t feel anything anymore. I saw my daughter in the packs playing ground, she was going up and down the seesaw, I could hear her laughter echoing in my mind. She looked so beautiful. I remembered that day, she just had her hair done, and she was excited to show it to her friends in the pack. I added ribbons, and flowers while styling it. She felt like the Alpha’s daughter that day, and I could already tell from the look in her eyes that she was proud of it. ‘Mummy! Come, join me!’ She ran towards me, her little hands held one of my finger, she tried her best to pull me towards the seesaw, it was too small for me, but I didn’t tell her, because I wanted her to be happy, so I sat on the other edge, I used my legs to propel us up and down, and while I found it so inconveniencing, I couldn’t could help but hear adore her giggle. Slowly, I was brought back to my reality. ‘Hang in there Selene, don’t sleep, stay aw
Selene's POV ‘Breath’ A sudden urge to breathe engulfed me, as a wave of air coursed through my nose, my back arched on a hard surface. Air Forcefully passing through my nose and mouth. Shivers of relief eluded me, my body felt instantly cold like I had been trapped beneath a snow storm yet I felt as light as a feather falling freely from the sky. The pain I had felt all along became nonexistent,my heavy eyes and lips felt burden free, my skin didn’t feel inflamed, I felt like an infant coaxed in the warmth of its mother, and it all came so suddenly. I felt alive again like I woken up from a deep slumber, the strange feeling was surreal that I contemplated what was going on. My eyelids slightly opened just to witness a blinding ray of light which threatened my vision, I closed my eyes again, then gently opened it, I took the light in till I was finally comfortable enough to look without being repulsed by the light. I noticed the wooden rooftop above me, and the first que
Selene’s POV It had been two days since I was locked in this very room, barely moving, or saying anything. The only time I actually talked with anyone was when the pack healers came in with her usual dosage of herbs, she would force me to take it, because she felt whatever must have happened might reverse, and it might be the goddess giving me time to heal before she took away her blessing. I was fed herbs and meat constantly, and I was made to view the pack from only a small opening at the side of the tent that I was placed in. It had also been two days since I felt my wolf last, I didn’t have the courage to confide in her, I could afford to be stigmatised because of it, everyone would treat me differently if their knew my wolf was dead, and if I was going to help Lucian in any way, I needed to live a different life. A gentle knock on the door before the door opened gave way for a lady to enter. She was the lady assigned to take care of me for today, I had two healers ev
Selene’s POV It was chilly outside, the sun had gone down, and everywhere was mostly dark. The pack members had lit a bonfire in the middle of tents but it did so little for me, as I was mostly isolated. All I had to keep my company were the sounds of gossip told by ladies outside, the cheers of children playing with each other, and a flickering light that casted shadows. I let my imagination wander as I tried to form creatures with shadows. I formed monsters with horns with my fingers, I made them eat, moved them around, then tried to make them mimic the voices of the ladies laughing and talking outside, but it did so little for me, it barely made me laugh, no matter what I did, it wasn't just fun at all.I sighed then laid back on the floor, contemplating why Lucian wasn't back yet, or why he chose to bring me into his pack as a rogue? And what was taking them so long at the other packs, the people already had so much hope in him, it would be hard to convince them to look around f
Selene's POV A slight moan escaped my lips as I leaned closer to him, I would be damned if I pulled away, his fingers wrapped around my head, he pulled out a little then placed kisses on my forehead.“I thought I was going to lose you, I thought I would never see you again” I had no idea what was going on, why he adored my existence all of a sudden, it was unlike Lucian, but I feared this moment would come to an end if I said something totally different or unexpected. His hands cupped my cheek, as he pulled the strands of my hair away from my face, I could see him clearly now, his pupils dilated in adoration, he stared like he had just seen a black moon.He stood from the floor, his physique overshadowed mine, and I found myself moving backwards, in fear that he might actually figure out I wasn’t supposed to be in the room, in the first place.“You came back bruised, I was just curious” I pointed at his bruises, but he didn't pay attention to them, instead he took a step closer, I f
Lucian’s POV “Damn…” She came while I was stroking her, my body shuddered as I felt ripples of flames spiral down my body, the sound of her moaning was the bane of my existence, I had never felt anything as intense as staying close to her.I didn’t want to leave her, but she was fluid as the air around me, she slipped away from me.“Selene, come back, Selene! Selene!!!”I jerked from the bed, my heart pounding within me, my anxious eyes searched the premises as I tried to calm myself down.I was in my room, specifically on my bed.‘It was just a dream’ a sigh of disappointment coaxed me, my back fell back to the bed, this lady had messed with my mind so much it began to hurt, if I was given a gift for every time I thought about her, I could build a mountain with it.She barely ever left my mind, and today, I found myself thinking about sex with her, maybe it was because of the mate bound I felt, there was no doubt that my wolf wanted her, I , on the other hand was obsessed, it didn’
Lucian’s POV So many questions taunted my mind, I wanted to ask her what she saw, or if I had embarrassed myself in any way, but I couldn’t get myself to do it, it was totally unnecessary.I wanted to believe if I had shown any sign of weirdness she would have told me already, so I straightened my clothes, then stood gallantly, pretending to be totally unaffected by my thoughts.“You don’t have to worry about entering my room, you did what you felt was good, and I appreciate your effort so much, I am healed now, all thanks to you and the goddess as well,” there was silence between us for a while, so I moved out of the way then proceeded to letting her out.Her face was still crinkled in a frown, she didn’t look happy and I could not help but think about why she was sad all of a sudden, maybe it was because of the sudden powers.“You were battered and bruised when I saw you at the mass grave yard, I didn’t think you will will make it”I remembered sneaking into the pack, I checked th
