Chapter 2

Selene’s POV

“What did you just say?” I retorted.

I must have heard wrong, he didn't just say that, Once again, I tried to defend him, but my wolf had shrunk with hate and disgust that she didn’t respond to me, he was hurting us so badly already.

“Did I say something wrong? You are useless, a Luna with a disabled wolf isn’t worth the position, and you know it,” he continued.

“How dare you!” I yelled back at him, but this time I let the tears fall because I couldn’t hold it anymore.

“Don’t make a fuss about it Selene, he isn’t telling a lie, you are indeed a disabled wolf,” Natasha chipped in mockingly.

“You called me a disabled wolf after all I have done for you? The times I defended you before everyone who thought you could not rule, Alex, you dare call me disabled and unfit to be a Luna. When I stood by you, I even got poisoned and stabbed by assassins because of you.” I cleaned my eyes once more, but the tears just kept on falling down my cheeks.

“It meant nothing,” he responded.

"Yes, it meant nothing to you because all along you have been shoving your dick into my sister, rather than acknowledging the fact that I was beside you all along.”

“Stop being selfish, Selene, who knows, maybe you are the one who called those assassins, because why are you ranting endlessly about it? I know you are devious, behind that disabled wolf of yours is a dark conscience, and you know it, so stop with the pretense.”

I fought the urge to pull her from his arms and fight with her, but I retained my stance, My eyes narrowed back to my husband who stood beside her all along while she made those claims about me, he didn’t make any attempt to say otherwise. He just watched her talk about me like he wasn’t the one I had protected all this time.

“You won’t say anything? You heard what she said: how evil I am, and you won’t say anything.”

“Stop pretending,” he said, “You enjoyed your stay as Luna, beside, I have provided you with all you ever needed and more, You weren’t just Luna because of the responsibilities, and all the sacrifices you made, I had paid for it, so stop with the tears already; you look pathetic.”

His words drove me back to memory lane, when he was just a man without a title, and how my sister, whom he had clung to so desperately, laughed at me because I chose to take on the position of his wife.

There were times when the elders detested him because he wasn’t as strong as his brother, but I gave them instances that made them see otherwise. I was there all along when he was angry and sad, and I coaxed him when he was rejected after so many trials.

“Do you remember I was there? when you had nothing.”

“Stop it” he said furiously as he came closer to me, He held my jaw tightly, his eyes bulging from his socket, “Stop it with the reminder already, I paid you!”

I felt the tears drop from the corner of my eyes as I stared at his loveless eyes, “When no one liked you—“

A resounding slap landed on my face, sending me to the floor.

“You are just useless,” said Alex.

“Mummy” Ella barged through the door then into the room, She rushed toward me, holding me in her arms, I never wanted her to see the argument between me and her father, I wanted to shield her eyes from this ugliness.

“Ella, please go outside, wait for me; I am coming, you shouldn’t be here” I tried pushing her, but she was resilient and stood beside me in an attempt to lift me up from the floor.

I hid my face from her, but not for long.

“Mommy, you are crying, why are you crying?” she asked while she tried to clean my eyes.

“I have something in my eyes, baby, mummy isn’t crying, and I also fell.”

“Ella, go outside,” Alex mouthed, trying to cover his shame.

“You should help Mummy up, she has something in her eyes; that's why she fell, Why are you standing there, Daddy? Come and help her!”

"Ella, darling, your mother is just clumsy, she should have watched where she was going,” said Natasha as she tried to come pick Ella up, I held her in my hands, trying to secure my child from her deceitful hands, but Ella was one step ahead of me.

"No, my mother is not clumsy, you are the one that's clumsy!” Ella fired back in anger.

"No, baby, don't say that to your aunt, it’s a mistake, I am fine.”

I stood to my feet to make my words more convincing, but she didn't leave me, rather, she clung onto me, making me carry her as she continued cleaning my eyes with her tiny palm.

“Ella, why would you talk to your aunt in that manner, so rude of you? '' Natasha fired back in annoyance, followed by her usual cry for attention.

“Even my niece detests me now, Selene is so wicked!?”

I saw Alexander walk up to her, coaxing her as she continued to cry in his arms. He didn't even regard the obvious presence of his daughter, rather, he stared at me with annoyance evident on his face.

“Ella, you are grounded for three days, since you have become so rude without respect,” he spat before he broke free from Natasha’s hands he grabbed Ella from me.

“Alex! You don't have to do that, she's innocent, she doesn't know what she's doing.”

“That's what you will say because you are the one teaching her how to be rude! And disrespectful just like you!” He fired back and dreadfully pulled her from my hands.

She began to cry and beg for her father to leave her hands. He held her so tight.

"Alex, please! Please just let her go! You don't have to do this, she's a small girl! She's ill, and you know this, Alex; it's her birthday.”

My words fell on deaf ears, he didn't listen to me or his weeping daughter.

“Alex baby, why don't you let the mother take care of the sick child? Besides, they both need to be taught respect,” said Natasha as she reached out for Alex's shoulder, She placed a kiss on his cheeks, then freed his hands.

Like a spell, Alex left Ella's hands, she fell on the floor, then started crying all over again, I ran after my child, holding her in my arms.

“So kind of you,” complimented Natasha before kissing her.

I watched them giggle and play with each other before proceeding to leave the office.
