Selene’s POV
“What did you just say?” I retorted. I must have heard wrong, he didn't just say that, Once again, I tried to defend him, but my wolf had shrunk with hate and disgust that she didn’t respond to me, he was hurting us so badly already. “Did I say something wrong? You are useless, a Luna with a disabled wolf isn’t worth the position, and you know it,” he continued. “How dare you!” I yelled back at him, but this time I let the tears fall because I couldn’t hold it anymore. “Don’t make a fuss about it Selene, he isn’t telling a lie, you are indeed a disabled wolf,” Natasha chipped in mockingly. “You called me a disabled wolf after all I have done for you? The times I defended you before everyone who thought you could not rule, Alex, you dare call me disabled and unfit to be a Luna. When I stood by you, I even got poisoned and stabbed by assassins because of you.” I cleaned my eyes once more, but the tears just kept on falling down my cheeks. “It meant nothing,” he responded. "Yes, it meant nothing to you because all along you have been shoving your dick into my sister, rather than acknowledging the fact that I was beside you all along.” “Stop being selfish, Selene, who knows, maybe you are the one who called those assassins, because why are you ranting endlessly about it? I know you are devious, behind that disabled wolf of yours is a dark conscience, and you know it, so stop with the pretense.” I fought the urge to pull her from his arms and fight with her, but I retained my stance, My eyes narrowed back to my husband who stood beside her all along while she made those claims about me, he didn’t make any attempt to say otherwise. He just watched her talk about me like he wasn’t the one I had protected all this time. “You won’t say anything? You heard what she said: how evil I am, and you won’t say anything.” “Stop pretending,” he said, “You enjoyed your stay as Luna, beside, I have provided you with all you ever needed and more, You weren’t just Luna because of the responsibilities, and all the sacrifices you made, I had paid for it, so stop with the tears already; you look pathetic.” His words drove me back to memory lane, when he was just a man without a title, and how my sister, whom he had clung to so desperately, laughed at me because I chose to take on the position of his wife. There were times when the elders detested him because he wasn’t as strong as his brother, but I gave them instances that made them see otherwise. I was there all along when he was angry and sad, and I coaxed him when he was rejected after so many trials. “Do you remember I was there? when you had nothing.” “Stop it” he said furiously as he came closer to me, He held my jaw tightly, his eyes bulging from his socket, “Stop it with the reminder already, I paid you!” I felt the tears drop from the corner of my eyes as I stared at his loveless eyes, “When no one liked you—“ A resounding slap landed on my face, sending me to the floor. “You are just useless,” said Alex. “Mummy” Ella barged through the door then into the room, She rushed toward me, holding me in her arms, I never wanted her to see the argument between me and her father, I wanted to shield her eyes from this ugliness. “Ella, please go outside, wait for me; I am coming, you shouldn’t be here” I tried pushing her, but she was resilient and stood beside me in an attempt to lift me up from the floor. I hid my face from her, but not for long. “Mommy, you are crying, why are you crying?” she asked while she tried to clean my eyes. “I have something in my eyes, baby, mummy isn’t crying, and I also fell.” “Ella, go outside,” Alex mouthed, trying to cover his shame. “You should help Mummy up, she has something in her eyes; that's why she fell, Why are you standing there, Daddy? Come and help her!” "Ella, darling, your mother is just clumsy, she should have watched where she was going,” said Natasha as she tried to come pick Ella up, I held her in my hands, trying to secure my child from her deceitful hands, but Ella was one step ahead of me. "No, my mother is not clumsy, you are the one that's clumsy!” Ella fired back in anger. "No, baby, don't say that to your aunt, it’s a mistake, I am fine.” I stood to my feet to make my words more convincing, but she didn't leave me, rather, she clung onto me, making me carry her as she continued cleaning my eyes with her tiny palm. “Ella, why would you talk to your aunt in that manner, so rude of you? '' Natasha fired back in annoyance, followed by her usual cry for attention. “Even my niece detests me now, Selene is so wicked!?” I saw Alexander walk up to her, coaxing her as she continued to cry in his arms. He didn't even regard the obvious presence of his daughter, rather, he stared at me with annoyance evident on his face. “Ella, you are grounded for three days, since you have become so rude without respect,” he spat before he broke free from Natasha’s hands he grabbed Ella from me. “Alex! You don't have to do that, she's innocent, she doesn't know what she's doing.” “That's what you will say because you are the one teaching her how to be rude! And disrespectful just like you!” He fired back and dreadfully pulled her from my hands. She began to cry and beg for her father to leave her hands. He held her so tight. "Alex, please! Please just let her go! You don't have to do this, she's a small girl! She's ill, and you know this, Alex; it's her birthday.” My words fell on deaf ears, he didn't listen to me or his weeping daughter. “Alex baby, why don't you let the mother take care of the sick child? Besides, they both need to be taught respect,” said Natasha as she reached out for Alex's shoulder, She placed a kiss on his cheeks, then freed his hands. Like a spell, Alex left Ella's hands, she fell on the floor, then started crying all over again, I ran after my child, holding her in my arms. “So kind of you,” complimented Natasha before kissing her. I watched them giggle and play with each other before proceeding to leave the office.Selene’s POV Alexander meant what he said, he had the guards lock Ella up, preventing her from seeing her pairs, and took away her toys, While she was locked in, she developed a fever on the first night of her punishment after so much crying and pleading.I was seated in her room with her all along so she did not feel neglected, and while at that, she developed a deadly fever, I watched my daughter shiver under the sheets, I had done all that I could to help her, but it was way beyond my power now, my baby needed medical help.I ran towards the guards, who were assigned to make sure we didn't leave the room.“Please call the park healers for me, tell them the Luna wants their immediate attention, my baby is sick, she can't stay here anymore.”“I am sorry, Luna, but the Alpha demands that she be disciplined, my hands are tied, my lady, the Alpha’s request supersedes yours,” he responded.I cursed Alex a hundred times in mere hours before turning back to the guards again, “Call them in
Selene’s POV “What! What do you mean by that?! What’s wrong with my baby!” I rushed into the room, just to see the other healers standing with their heads bowed. They avoided looking at me.“My Luna, she's in.” “Speak up!!”” “She's in a coma, it's severe,” they muttered. My world flashed before my own eyes, I watched my baby lay on her bed, unmoving, I could not believe it.“Her treatment was delayed, there is no way we could help her that quickly.” One of the healers who stood beside me said in a muffled mutter.“What’s going on here?” Natasha said in a whisper as she and Alexander walked into the room, I could not hold it anymore, she was the reason for the delay, I lounged at her.“You are the reason! You bastard! It’s all because of you.." Throwing my hands mindlessly on her without any care if the healers were present to witness the charade or Alex, who was standing gallantly beside her, I grabbed her clothes.“You caused it!” I slapped her again, Alex pulled me off her body
Selene’s POV Two days…It had been two days since I last saw the break of dawn, two days since I heard the voice of my little princess, I was weak and unwilling to let my faith die.My body sagged on the floor, unable to stand anyone, I had attained bruises on every inches of my body, an impact of hitting the metal gate so much, my head had bruises as patches of dried blood.I had cried, I had prayed, I had begged and fought, two days, with no hope of coming out of here, Alexander meant it when he said he was going to punish me for a crime I didn’t commit. He meant it when he he said he was going to make my life miserable.I refused to let the idea sink in, as I forced myself up again, my sore knees crawling on the floor as I dragged myself to the gates of the dungeon, my bloody hands wrapped around he rusty bars of the cell room.“Is anyone there!, please… just get the Alpha for me. I need to know where my baby is” I couldn’t cry, or yell but I knew they could hear me from over ther
Lucian’s POV“Mate?”We couldn't be mates, she's mated to my brother, are you out of your mind or something?“I felt it” my wolf snickered within me.Confusion settled in my mind, as I strolled through the corridors of the park, the unsettling feeling found its way within me,it was very intoxicating, the sight of her left me on the brink of insanity. I haven't seen her in ages, I had imagined what she would be like after my return, I had hoped for better scenarios than her current state, and I was an eyesore to see her on the floor like a criminal. She was a woman of high reputations, she wouldn’t be treated like a nobody. An image of her flickered in my mind again, I could not stop looking at her when I gave her a plate of food, how many days was she made to starve, her skin looked pale, and I could perceive blood and damp sweat all over her, it enraged me so much.I came back to the park for a particular reason, and it was solely to take what had been stripped away from me by my yo
Sophie's POV Hours passed.I was beginning to see this as a dream, but the sight of the stainless plate before me kept my hopes high. The water can was still beside me, and I kept staring at it occasionally. If it was truly Lucian I had seen and it wasn't some kind of hallucination, then he was going to come back, I stretched my hands, to reach out for the plate he had used to serve me food, my finger brushed around It, I smeared the oil on the plate between two fingers. My mind journeyed back to my daughter and her well-being, what if he doesn't come back, or worse case, what if he comes back and tells me that she was dead, I didn't know what happened after I was carried to the dungeon, Alexander was under the fingers of my sister, and he was a fool he would kill her if she told him to .My baby was the only reason why I was alive and secondly if I was to be executed, I would die wholeheartedly if I knew she would be fine even if I was dead. While I waited, I heard a familiar step a
Selene’s POV Lucian might be the worst wolf in the pack but I was certain Ella would be safer with him than her own father, and as bizarre as it sounds, it was actually the honest truth. “Pull her up” Alexander commanded, I was dragged to my feet, then made to stare at him, his eyes blazed with fury as he glared at me. “Where is Ella?” I kept quiet but didn't break eye contact with him. I wanted him to see how much he could try to break me, he could try as hard as he wanted to, but I wasn't going to break. “I would ask you this question three times, and if you don't give me an answer before the third time, you would really hate what I would do to you” “Where have you taken your daughter to?” “You mean your daughter?” A slap landed on my face, and I was made to look at him again. “Where is Ella?Who knows about her sickness?Who is helping you in this park!” If he cared so much about her then he would have guarded her room, if he cared about what his pack member would think th
Selene's POV The pain was nonexistent for a blissful minute, I couldn’t feel anything anymore. I saw my daughter in the packs playing ground, she was going up and down the seesaw, I could hear her laughter echoing in my mind. She looked so beautiful. I remembered that day, she just had her hair done, and she was excited to show it to her friends in the pack. I added ribbons, and flowers while styling it. She felt like the Alpha’s daughter that day, and I could already tell from the look in her eyes that she was proud of it. ‘Mummy! Come, join me!’ She ran towards me, her little hands held one of my finger, she tried her best to pull me towards the seesaw, it was too small for me, but I didn’t tell her, because I wanted her to be happy, so I sat on the other edge, I used my legs to propel us up and down, and while I found it so inconveniencing, I couldn’t could help but hear adore her giggle. Slowly, I was brought back to my reality. ‘Hang in there Selene, don’t sleep, stay aw
Selene's POV ‘Breath’ A sudden urge to breathe engulfed me, as a wave of air coursed through my nose, my back arched on a hard surface. Air Forcefully passing through my nose and mouth. Shivers of relief eluded me, my body felt instantly cold like I had been trapped beneath a snow storm yet I felt as light as a feather falling freely from the sky. The pain I had felt all along became nonexistent,my heavy eyes and lips felt burden free, my skin didn’t feel inflamed, I felt like an infant coaxed in the warmth of its mother, and it all came so suddenly. I felt alive again like I woken up from a deep slumber, the strange feeling was surreal that I contemplated what was going on. My eyelids slightly opened just to witness a blinding ray of light which threatened my vision, I closed my eyes again, then gently opened it, I took the light in till I was finally comfortable enough to look without being repulsed by the light. I noticed the wooden rooftop above me, and the first que
