80. Can She Do It?

Unfortunately for me, the more step I took toward the mountain, the farther it became.

My frustration was starting to set in and my patience was hanging by a tiny line of thread.

A part of me wondered if one of the female competitors had gotten to the mountain already and a painful jab struck across my gut.

I could not imagine the despair I'd feel if someone had gotten the title while I suffered, trying.

Just then thunder clapped, a heavy downpour rained on me and I cussed out in frustration.

“Oh, crap! It can't get any worse. Can it?"

Although my body was soaked from head to toe, I kept on moving. Rain has nothing on me when I have something to prove. I reassured myself over and over again.

Taking the left direction that seemed more favorable, I noticed something burning and rustling among the bushes and when I peered over, a teenage girl was sitting beside a bonfire with a stick in her hand.

Holy crap! How could a fire be burning brightly underneath heavy rainfall?
