“You seem delighted to see me, wife.” Damien’s hand moved to cup Maya's cheek, leaving her stunned for words.

“W - wife?” she stuttered, her sapphire eyes round in astonishment.

He didn't respond to her question. Instead he raked his eyes all over her body, taking it all in.

He traced his finger on the freckles scattered all over her face like breadcrumbs, then moved to her full pink lips.

A gasp escaped her lips when his hand snaked around her thin waist and with his free hand he felt her wide hips.

She made a startled yelp when she felt his hand cupping her butt.

‘What the? He did not just do that to me!’’ Maya said to herself.

While Damien was still smiling, a slap caught him off guard, sending him flying through the open door.

“How dare you touch me!” Maya quickly grabbed a white towel from the towel rack and tied it around her body.

Dmaine cupped his red cheeks, his gray eyes wide in disbelief.

“Who the hell do you think you are?”

Maya's rage simmered below the surface waiting to let out and she let it out.

“Oh. Who the hell am I?” She rolled her damp brown hair in a messy bun. “I am your wife, you perverted son of a bitch!”

Damien was stunned for words.

“Perverted what? You're the one in my room!”

“Well, your mother said I should stay here!”

“You’ve got quite a mouth on you, princess.” Damien couldn't help but grin at her.

“I'm not called the black sheep of the family for not,” Maya's chest rose and fell as she raged on.

“If anything you're the one with an attitude! Quite a husband you are for not showing up to your own wedding.” He took slow strides towards her and grabbed her throat.

“Shut your mouth. You don't know anything.”

What she did next surprised him. Her fingers circle around his throat and she smiled.

“I wish you the same, husband.”

Damien was alarmed by her bravery. No one dared him nor did what she did. A wave of excitement rushed through him as he let go of her and her, him. He was loving this new wife of his.

As they shared dinner in the dining room, Maya couldn't help but notice Damien staring at her.

“The food is on the plate and not my face,” she reminded him as she sliced through the beefsteak on her plate.

Damien snorted a laugh.

“Wow. That's the most impressive thing I've seen all day. Who needs to cover world hunger when Maya can successfully keep food on her face?”

Maya dropped her fork and pushed back her chair.

“I can't do this anymore.”

Damien was taken aback by her action.

“Hey, come back here.”

Maya ignored him and went to their bedroom upstairs. What he got as a reply was a loud slam of the door. He turned to his mother with a frown on his face.

“You see?”

Luna Rosella hid a chuckle with her kerchief.

“I think you two will go along pretty well.”

Damien ran his hand through his hair.

“I doubt it.”

A week later,

Maya joined Slade Enterprises as Damien's secretary. Even at work, those two couldn't keep their claws to themselves.

“It's a copying machine. It's literally in the name. How dumb are you?” Damien slammed his fist on the desk.

“Oh really? We're playing crazy now. Good job, Mr. President.” Maya threw the A1 papers in the air and they scattered to the floor

“Jesus Christ! Freya!” Damien pinched the skin between his brows.

Maya glanced at the ice watch on her wrist.

“It's noon. See you after lunch break, Mr. President.”

“Get back here, Freya!” Damien barked angrily.

Maya faked a gasp then she grinned at him.

“When you get your attitude in check then and only then can you talk to me. This is an office not a zoo, sweetheart. Ciao.”

“Aargh!” Damien scattered the items on his desk.

The PR Executives he had asked to meet with him stood frozen at the door, all five of them unsure of what to do.

He turned around to find them gawking at the floor.

“Get out! All of you!”

“We're sorry, sir.” All of them ran out of the office.

He walked over to his desk and collapsed on it, massaging his throbbing temples.

A light knock on the door grabbed his attention and he looked up, thinking it was Freya. Turns out it wasn't her.

A sigh escaped his lips and he leaned back on his reclining chair. Asher whistled softly.

“Woah. Did the cat drag himself in here?”

“You mean herself?” Damien rolled his eyes. Asher laughed when he understood Damien's joke.

He walked over to Damien's desk and pushed the black button.

“I need the janitor in the president’s office ASAP.”

Damien exhales again, this time he was seething with rage.

“Just calm down. Freya is new to these things.” Asher passed a brown folder over to Damien.

Damien dropped the folder on his desk and pointed at the scattered papers on the floor.

“New?”

Asher let out a nervous laugh. “Well…”

The janitors entered after a brief knock and he rose to his feet, instructing them on what to do.

After their cleaning, Asher dismissed them and turned to Damien who stood by the glass window with a glass of wine in hand.

“You okay?” he asked.

“Just look at her, eating that sandwich like she doesn't care.” Damien said with a hiss.

Asher couldn't help but laugh.

“What is your problem with this girl, dude?”

He came up beside Damien and looked through the window. Downstairs in the company garden, Freya sat in one of the booths with her work colleagues.

“Well, she's just eating lunch. Let her be.” Asher patted his shoulder.

“Sometimes, I wonder if you're my best friend or my enemy.” Damien downed the wine in one gulp and turned away from the window but Asher lingered.

He squinted his eyes as he watched Freya eat. The way she threw her head back when she laughed and the way she twirled her spoon in her shake. It all came back to him.

“You know what, D? I've gotta run. I'll be right back.” He said, walking towards the door.

“If you're heading to the cafe, grab me a burger.” Damien told him.

“Sure thing.” He shut the door behind him and ran for the elevator.

He was quick to get in before the workers filled it.

The door chimed and parted and he didn't waste a second to exit. The digital clock on the wall read 12 : 51. Lunch break was almost over.

His heart raced in his chest as he ran towards the company's garden.

There was only one person he knew that used a spoon to drink her protein shake, laugh with her head thrown back, and hates the secretary position.

As he entered, her laughter filled the air. He walked straight to her table and instantly froze.

She looked up at him and smiled.

“Oh, hello there. How may I help you?”

Asher's pupils dilated. That dimpled smile, those delicate hands clutching her flask, they were his back in college. This wasn't Freya. This was Maya.

Asher stepped forward, his lips crinkling into a smile. “There you are, Maya.” Maya froze. “W - what?”“It's you. I knew I'd seen that face before.” Asher went on.Maya’s heart raced in her chest and she felt she would have a heart attack. ‘What is Asher doing here?’ She questioned her troubling thoughts. Her hand was quick to clutch her flask and she prayed they wouldn't tremble. ‘What a terrible way to reunite with your ex. I hope he doesn't recognize me.’ Maya pushed back her chair when the PA system chimed.“Sorry, uh, Mr…” Maya pinched her eyelids to get a read at his name tag. “...Asher but my name is Freya. Actually Mrs. Slade.” She showed him the diamond ring on her finger and his smile died. “I get confused a lot with my twin sister, Maya.”“Oh sorry,” Asher cupped the back of his neck. “Mr. Slade wants to see you in his office.”Maya frowned but instantly covered it with a fake smile. “Ah, I wonder what hubby wants from me.” Then she turned to her friends, “See ya, l

DamienDamien's lips met Maya's in a fierce, passionate kiss before she could even lift her own. Carefree, she wrapped her arm around his neck, granting him all the permission he desired. He pushed her hair aside, his fingers tangling in it as he deepened the kiss. Maya attempted to pull away, slowly becoming aware of her surroundings, but it was too late. Damien was lost in the rhythm of the music, her hands weaving through his hair, stirring a longing within him.“Please... pl...” she tried to speak, but her words were silenced as he pressed his hands against her lips.“Shush.”“Hey! Don’t do that,” Damien murmured, locking eyes with her. She froze, her heart racing as his familiar voice echoed in her ears. The way he looked at her made her momentarily speechless. She lowered her gaze, avoiding his intense stare while his hands held her waist.“What’s wrong, Freya?” he asked, lifting her chin with his finger. She shook her head, still not meeting his eyes, when he suddenly kissed he

It was the next morning, and Freya still hadn't made an appearance for breakfast. The whole family had planned this gathering, and their absence was conspicuous. Damien had woken up earlier than usual after getting a call from Asher regarding a deal that was supposed to be finalized, but complications had arisen due to some authority's delay. His grip tightened around the phone, knuckles turning white with tension. The frustration that had brewed in his chest was now at a boiling point. He couldn't remember the last time a deal had spiraled so out of control. Asher's laugh boomed on the other end, only fueling his anger."Listen carefully, Asher," Damien said, his voice low and edged with authority. "I don’t tolerate failed deals. If you keep letting me down like this, I will take action that you won't like."Asher’s tone was playful, laced with amusement, but Damien could detect the underlying mockery. "Relax, Damien. The deal went through; I was just messing with you. Tried to call

Freya “No ma'am, Freya, don’t worry about the meal. I’ll take care of it,” I insisted, raising my hands to halt her words. She had already said more than enough. As I opened the cupboard to retrieve some eggs, I noticed the terror painted across her features, and a pang of empathy tugged at me. “Why are you staring at me like that?” I asked, feigning a smile. “I can make my own meal.” My voice held a snicker, laced with irritation at her lingering presence. Since last night, Demian had been notably absent, and I was still reeling from our last encounter. The thought of him caused my dislike to churn like a storm within me.Lost in my thoughts, I cracked the eggs into a bowl with slow, deliberate movements, when suddenly, I felt a hand wrap around my waist. A wave of warmth swept over me, accompanied by the unmistakable heat of his breath brushing against my neck, sending a shiver down my spine and a pang of annoyance to my stomach. “Good morning, sunshine,” Demian's low, flirtatiou

Demian pov “What do you mean by starting to care about people's affections, Demian?” My best friend's voice cut through my thoughts as I looked up, my eyes momentarily shifting from the papers on my desk. What does that even mean? When exactly should I start caring? It's an insult, really. He laughed, adjusting his suit as he settled into the chair across from me and crossed his legs with a decisive motion. I knew exactly what topic he wanted to tackle.“Hey, Freya is my wife, so of course I care about her!” he asserted, reaching over to take my red drink from the table. He leaned in, hands pressing against the table, his gaze locked on me.“I know she’s your wife, but you…you…” he pointed at my face, and I frowned deeply, making it clear that his attempt to provoke me was unwelcomed.“Fine, Freya, Freya, Freya—she’s your wife, but that’s no excuse for being so dismissive about meetings that require your presence,” he continued. I sighed heavily, realizing he was right; I had been ne

The fabric caught the soft light from the chandelier above, the delicate lace and silk reflecting a warm, ethereal glow. Her smile was wide, her eyes sparkling with the anticipation of the long-awaited visit to her parents’ home. After months of being apart, the reunion felt like a moment frozen in time, something she wanted to savor.Demian stood at the bottom of the staircase, his posture rigid, his usual calm demeanor betraying a rare flicker of something softer. He hadn’t expected her to look like this. It was as if she had stepped out of a dream, her elegance surpassing even his high expectations. His jaw went slack, his usually impassive face showing the faintest trace of surprise. I fixed my gaze on my sister across the room, her fragile form slumped against the couch. Freya, usually so vibrant, now looked washed out, her eyes dull and haunted, fixated on nothing. Her disheveled hair hung limply, and her wrinkled, dirty dress emphasized the stark contrast to the girl I once knew. The silence in the room was heavy.Clenching my fists, my heart raced with each passing second. Every part of me was demanding answers, yet I held my tongue, waiting for her to finally say something. The world outside passed by in a blur of dull colors, the winter trees stripped bare of their leaves, the occasional house tucked away behind tall gates. It felt like the world was shutting down, just like Freya had.I tried to console myself, but my mind raced in circles. Demian’s POVThe growl surged again—this time louder, more insistent, like a deep, threatening warning. The tension electrified the air around us, sharpening my senses. Something wasn’t right.“Asher,” I snapped, my voice leaving no room for debate. “We didn’t send any invitations, so who the hell is that?”Asher, who had been observing the chaos with Freya, stood tall at my command. "No idea," he replied, amusement flickering in his eyes. "But we’ll find out soon enough."Freya’s presence beside me heightened my irritation. Despite my efforts to shield her from this world—the world I had created, the one I’d dragged her into—she was determined to be part of it. To understand it.I turned to her, my tone steady but firm. "Freya, you need to stay here," I instructed, my hand on her shoulder. "It’s not safe."She met my gaze, fire igniting in her eyes. "I’m not staying put, Demian. I refuse to be a fragile thing you can hide away when things get rough."I opened my mouth to counter her,

Asher povAs I stood outside Demian's chamber, a pit settled in my stomach. It wasn’t just the tension between him and Freya; that was predictable. The real issue was that something significant had shifted within Demian, and I was far from convinced it was heading in a good direction.A sudden crash echoed through the hall, followed by Freya's sharp, furious cry. My instincts kicked in, and I took a deliberate breath. It wasn’t my role to intervene between them unless absolutely necessary, but the escalating situation demanded action. I couldn't stand by while Demian struggled to manage this on his own. Before I could brace myself, something whizzed past me, narrowly missing my face. I ducked, muttering under my breath, and firmly grasped the door handle. "Demian!" I called out, swinging the door wide open just in time to witness Freya throw another object in rage. Her eyes were ablaze, her breathing frantic. The sound of glass shattering reverberated as a vase shattered against the w

Maya povI felt the fury building in my chest, my heart pounding against my ribcage. I fixed my gaze on Demian, fists clenched at my sides. What part of this didn’t he understand? I had made myself clear—I wasn’t going to stand idly by while he made this decision. No means no.The murmurs from the council buzzed around us like an irritating swarm of bees. They were watching, waiting, anticipating, and I despised it. I hated how they appeared eager for Demian to take control, and I loathed even more that he stood there, glaring at me as if I had violated some unspoken rule by challenging him.But I refused to back down. Not this time. Not when something so important was at stake.I struggled to breathe, the tension in the air thick and suffocating. I locked eyes with Demian, and I could sense the storm brewing inside him. He wrestled with his control, but I recognized that look—he was angry, no, furious. He didn’t like being challenged, especially not by me.The longer we remained like

Demian’s POVThe atmosphere in the pack house was tense. It wasn’t just the usual early morning quiet; something heavier hung in the air. I felt it settle in my chest, a reminder of the unsettling events from the past 24 hours.I stood in the kitchen doorway, watching Freya with her back to me as she cooked. The smell of warm bread and eggs filled the room. She had promised me breakfast—no distractions, just the two of us. I wasn’t sure if this was defiance or a sign that she wanted to connect.Freya had always kept her distance, even slipping once when she called me Maya, my younger sister’s name. It signaled her discomfort with our shared past."Freya," I broke the silence. "I need to check on something. I’ll be back soon."She stiffened slightly but turned with a soft smile. "Of course. Take your time."I sensed she was just humoring me, unsure of how to deal with me now, yet she didn’t push me away. Our complicated connection was still palpable.I left the kitchen and found Asher w

I sat in my office, papers scattered around me in a chaotic mess. The weight of the day pressed heavily on my eyelids, making them feel like bricks. I rubbed my face, attempting to shake off the fog of exhaustion that stubbornly lingered. Damien hadn’t come by yet, and I was growing impatient. It was past noon; he was my right hand, my rock, the one who kept everything in check. His absence was an itch I couldn’t ignore. Where the hell was he?My chair creaked as I shifted, the silence of the room only amplifying my frustration. I glanced at the clock on the wall yet again. Still no word. My fingers drummed absently on the desk, but it only fueled the irritation building in my chest. Was he upset with me? I couldn't dwell on it. A storm was brewing inside me as the minutes dragged on.Then, the door swung open, snapping me from my thoughts. Asher strode in, a leather package tucked under his arm. He flashed that grin of his—the one that didn’t quite reach his eyes. I didn’t return it.

Demian's patience was running out, his temper escalating with each tick of the clock. He could feel his jaw tightening as he paced more rapidly across the room. His eyes darted to Freya, absorbed in her laptop, seemingly unaffected by his rising agitation. The anger boiling within him churned, and he gripped the window frame tightly, knuckles turning white with his frustration.“You really don’t get it, do you?” he said, his voice low but loaded with tension.Freya didn’t lift her gaze. “Get what, Demian?”His eyes narrowed, lips pressing into a thin line of discontent. “You just let her waltz in here uninvited. Your sister, Maya, acting like it’s perfectly normal. How can you not see that’s... completely inappropriate?” His tone dripped with disbelief and irritation. “I don’t even know her, Freya. She’s not supposed to be here, and yet you’re treating it like it’s just another casual visit!”Finally, Freya looked up from her laptop, her expression cool and poised, her face a mask of
