Jamie was appalled when he saw a lanky girl walk in through the door. Her hair was disheveled, he sweaty clothes clung to her body. Her cheekbones were clearly visible and dark circles shadowed her sunken eyes. She looked just a tad bit better than the beggar on the street.
“Can the day get any worse?” Jamie muttered as he eyed her from top to bottom. His face scrunched in disgust as he saw the broken strap of her flip-flops.
He didn’t even bother to ask her why she was here. He took out his cell phone and rang up the security guards, “Do you guys have no F****** sense? Why did you let a beggar stroll into our office? Come in and drag her away before I lose my head.”
The girl was trying to catch her breath near the reception when two hunky bodyguards sauntered in and dragged her away roughly.
Sienna was too stunned to react. By the time she had regained her composure, the guards had already dragged her to the main gate.
“Wait! Please listen to me..” She yelled at the top of her lungs to attract their attention.”
“What is there to listen to? AE is a prestigious office. It is not somewhere you can just go for a stroll.” The man said shoving her towards the gate.
She stumbled but gripped the bars of the gate to regain composure. Her face burned with embarrassment. Her palm balled up in a tight fist. She drew in a few deep breaths and managed to say, “I am…”
“Don’t waste our time, girl. Just leave already.” The other man with a deep scar across his cheeks muttered.
“Please… listen to me…” She said and licked her dry lips. She gulped down the lump and finally managed to say in a breath, “I am an employee of this office.”
The man with the scar glared at her and gritted out, “Stop acting smart and leave else I will forget that you are a girl.”
“If you don’t believe I can show you my appointment letter.” She said and fumbled in her bag for the letter.
She kept rummaging through her bag for it. Her hands trembled badly making it difficult for her to search for the letter.
The bodyguard grabbed her bag and upturned it. All the contents in the bag; a granola bar, comb, perfume, a handkerchief, and a few other odds and ends fell on the ground in a heap. He growled, “See there is nothing. Now get the F*** outta here!”
The girl heaved a sigh of relief when she saw the envelope lying on the top of the heap. She picked it up quietly and handed it over to the security guard.
He gave her an exasperated look and pulled out a piece of paper from the envelope. His eyes popped out as he read the contents of the letter.
After he had finished reading it, he handed it over to the other bodyguard. His jaws hung open when he saw the appointment letter. He was sure there was a mistake. He was about to go and consult Jamie Sir about it when he heard his infuriated voice, “Why is there a stand up here? Hadn’t I given clear instructions?”
“Sir…” He said as his head snapped towards him. He gulped when he saw his eyes red with anger. Rather than saying anything he just handed the letter to Jamie.
“What is this now?” He queried as he glanced at the letter. He felt like someone had poured a bucket of ice-cold water on him. This couldn’t be happening. He couldn’t have made such a huge mistake.
“Whose appointment letter is this?” He spat out glaring at the girl.
“Umm… mine…” She managed to reply.
“Proof?”
She pulled out a wallet from her back pocket and showed him an id. She said, “I am Sienna. I was given this appointment letter yesterday and I was asked to join today.”
Jamie felt like killing himself. How could he have committed such a blunder? He was tempted to throw fire her right away but then what would he tell his boss. Wouldn’t he suspect that he hadn’t taken the interview well?
He was stuck in a really bad situation this time. He looked at her with distaste as a plan formed in his mind. He would just let her work for a week and then fire her for incompetence or better still frame her in something. Then he could wash his hands from all his responsibility.
For now, he had to get her to look a bit better.
“Pick all your things and come with me.” He commanded.
With shaking hands, she somehow stuffed everything into her bag as soon as possible. She was surprised when he started walking out of the gate rather than inside.
“Come quickly, I don’t have all day.” He prodded and stormed out of the gate.
Sienna’s head drifted from the gate to the building then back to the gate in confusion. Then, she trotted towards the gate quickly.
The man seemed to be someone powerful. She didn’t want to offend him.
He was waiting for her outside the gate with his hands on his hips. This time he didn’t even bother to say anything. He just walked ahead briskly. Sienna had to run half of the way to keep up with him.
“Damn! What have I got myself into.” The man muttered irritatedly.
Sienna’s eyes stung with tears and her heart clenched at his words. If only she didn’t need this job… If only she had another option…
She drew deep breaths and kept chanting to herself, “You have to do this for Daniel…. You have to do this for Daniel…”
This seemed to calm her down and her face regained its composure, Though in her heart a storm of emotions brewed threatening to engulf her, threatening to drag her to oblivion…
Sienna Lockhart sat at the edge of the chair she had been allotted. It was located at the far end of the room, just behind a door that kept her obscured from view. Most people would complain if they are given such a location to work but not Sienna. She was relieved to get that position. She wasn’t visible to most of the employees in the office and that seemed like a blessing in disguise for her. The room itself was quite large with sections separated with wooden frameworks. The ventilation was good and the cooling system of the room was in perfect order. About a hundred employees sat in their respective cubicles; each engrosse
Sienna followed roger quietly down a winding staircase. They came to a halt in front of a sturdy wooden door.Roger had to shove his body against it to open the creaky door. Sienna coughed as they entered the room. Piles of paper and files were arranged on hundreds of racks, books were stacked in a huge cabinet. The titles were obscured by the dust that had formed layers on it. In one corner of the room was a PC and a modem. They were placed on a wooden table.
Alaric was driving home from an important meeting when he saw a girl walking alone on the road. He wasn’t the one to meddle with other’s affairs but she appeared so scared. He could smell her fear and a faint smell of roses. His eyebrows scrunched as he tried to remember the last time he was assaulted by the fragrance. *Stop day-dreaming and help that girl.* his wolf Viken chided. *I am not going to… Remember we are trying to keep people away from us.**How can you be so cold-hearted. Look at that poor girl. God knows why she is walking alone in the dead of the n
An hour later….A single officer arrived on his bike and got off, outside the Club. He didn't quite trust the bar owner's claim. Hence, he had not bothered to bring along a backup.“Where are the bodies you were talking about?” He fired at the owner who was standing with a bewildered expression.“Sir… I swear… the bodies were lying right here.” He said pointing to the region in front of the club. “Then, what happened to the bodies. Did they vanish into the thin air?” The officer gro
The next day in the AE office. Alaric took the newspaper to read as usual. His jaws clenched and he crumpled the newspaper into a ball and threw it into the dustbin.“Damn!” He cursed as he banged his fist on the table. It left a huge dent on the table but he was too riled up to bother about it. ‘Ding…’ His phone rang with a notification. He threw a cursory glance at his phone kept on the table. Seeing the name of the sender he grasped his phone and punched in his password quickly.
Sienna paced up and down the room, looking at her watch every once in a while. She had been wearing the floor with her continuous pacing for the past one hour. She felt like she would burst at any moment. So, she finally strode towards Jamie’s cabin. Her hands became clammy and her heart started racing as she neared the door. She felt like turning back and returning to her room. With shaking hands, she knocked at the door first softly but when she got no reply she rapped against the glass as loudly as possible. Still, there was no response. She was about to leave but the sounds of heavy breathing caught her attention. What if sir was having an attack? If she
Sienna licked her lips and she whispered, “Water… please give me some water…” Realizing that no one was around she cracked opened her eyes slightly but then shut it tight again. She hoped that she could keep her phobia of closed spaces at bay if she didn’t look around but it didn’t seem to work. She felt her hands become clammy once again and her breathing quickened. She tried to recall the feel of that man as he embraced her. This seemed to calm her down a bit. She took deep breaths and chanted, “Daniel must be waiting for my call… I have to get up and reach home.” She looked around the room frantically. Th
Alaric parked his car in front of a huge cottage nestled in the woods of Citervile. It was a dense forest about a hundred miles from the city. He had driven all night to reach the cottage as soon as possible. A yawn escaped his mouth as he stretched his arms and got out of the car. He drew in a deep breath as the cool wind slapped against his face. His wolf was purring with excitement. It was almost two years since he came here.*I am so glad that we are here. Please tell me that we will stay at least for a few weeks.* Liken said jumping up and down. *You will find out soon.* Alari
Sienna indeed felt useless sitting alone in the room. She was lost in her thoughts when Daniel came running. His face was pale and he was panting badly, “Mommy… mommy… please come quickly… Daddy…”Sienna knelt and asked him, “What happened to Daddy?”“A Biggie biggie man carried him away… Daddy didn’t open his eyes…”Sienna picked him up in her arms and asked for the exact location where he had seen him. From his description, it seemed as if he was taken to the nearby warehouse. She took off her sandals and took out the revolver from the drawer. Instructing, Ruby to take care of Daniel she ran in the direction of the warehouse. Her dress got caught in brambles and she had to tear off apart of it to move ahead but this was her least of her concern. She ran as fast as her legs could carry. Her eyes widened in horror when she saw Alaric tied up in chains. He was
The next morning when Sienna woke up, she found herself in her bedroom. Alaric was seated beside her with her hand nestled between his. Before she could speak anything her mind got flooded with thoughts *My mate’s eyes are so mesmerizing. How I wish I could get lost in them. Her full lips make me want to drown in their sweetness.*Sienna’s face flushed. Pulling her hand away she said, “From when did you become so sloppy?”Alaric’s eyebrows furrowed and he said, “Sorry…”It was then Sienna realized that his lips hadn’t moved at all. She sat up with a start and said, “Does that mean I was hearing your thoughts?”“Maybe… mates can hear each other’s thoughts once the male has marked the female… I don’t know if Human mates can do that…”He cupped Sienna’s face in his hands and thought about the first time he met her.&ldquo
Aunt Sue, Elliot, Ruby, and Amanda rushed to the cottage when they got Alaric’s message. They found Alaric sitting on the floor with his head buried in his hands.Alaric raised his head when he sensed Elliot’s hand on his shoulder. “I lost everything, Elli… Everything is destroyed…”“What do you mean?”“I killed Serena.”Elliot knelt in front of him and said, “What you did is very honorable. Dad will be proud of you. You chose to save innocent babies over your mate. Not everyone can do that.”“Elli, You don’t understand, that b**** killed all the babies too before dying.”Amanda looked around and said, “I don’t think she could have used power after you stabbed her totem with the dagger. Where are the babies? Let me have a look…”“Right there…” Alaric started saying but stopped when he saw that t
Sienna was dressed in a pair of comfortable jeans and sweaters. The room didn’t seem tiny to her anymore. She had sort of figured out how the room worked. The moment she managed to eliminate the fear of closed spaces from her mind, the room appeared much larger. When she got over the fear that she will remain hungry and thirsty, she didn’t feel hungry or thirsty anymore. It was as if the room was created to magnify your fears. She still hadn’t figured out a way to escape from this oppressive prison.“Long time no see, sister…” Serena's voice pulled her out of her thoughts. Her eyebrows drew closer as her eyes checked Sienna out from top to bottom. She looked at the mirror lying in the corner. “Ignorance is bliss, isn’t it? But it doesn’t stop the world from spinning…”Following her eyes, Sienna said in a resolute voice, “I am not going to fall for your tricks anym
As days went by, Serena could notice visible changes in Alaric’s behavior. He followed her orders without asking any questions. He showered her with praises. Though she knew he was flattering her for his own benefit, she couldn’t help but feel thrilled at the prospect that Alaric admired her.She had caught him staring at her on several occasions. She was convinced that he had developed a liking for her. If he passed the test, they could start afresh and she could end Sienna’s pitiful life. Her face lit up with satisfaction as she saw Alaric clean her dirty shoes. He was completely focused on the task. She waved her wand and all the shoes got cleaned instantly. A gasp escaped Alaric’s mouth and he raised his head to find Sienna stand in front of them.He jumped to his feet and bowed, “Master…”“Come and sit with me. I have an important matter to discuss.” Serena said waving her hand towards the
“Why are you doing this, Serena?” Sienna asked in a pained voice.Serena's smirked and said rubbing her hands, “I would have said that I am taking revenge but honestly this is so much fun,”Sienna was taken aback by her answer. How could someone derive pleasure by hurting others? She glared at the witch and said, “You might be very powerful but one day you will have to pay for your deeds too. You should be more mindful of your actions.”Serena’s evil laughter echoed in the room sending shivers down her spine. When Serena finally calmed down she challenged,“Who is going to make me pay? Your weakling mate…”“You never know… Aunt Sue is a witch too. If she finds a way to get me out of here, I am sure they won’t spare you easily.”“That will never happen, Luv. Those fools are looking for you in the transition realm; the realm of where people go if th
The first rays of the sun streamed in through the window illuminating Serena’s bedroom. She was seated on the large poster bed that was still made. There was satisfaction and excitement on her face. She felt giddy with joy. Alaric was hers to possess, toy around and have fun. She felt this intense desire to boast about it to someone. Her lips stretched in an evil smile. She knew the perfect person. She raised a barrier around her room and sat down in the meditating pose. Closing her eyes, she started chanting some spell. The rhythmic chanting of the spell echoed in her room for quite some time. Then, there was a flash of light and she vanished. She appeared in a large room with white walls, white floors, white roofs. It was quite difficult to tell the difference between the walls, floor, and roof. It made you feel as if you were within a large white box.A girl was cowering in a corner. Her head was buried in her hands and she was completely
Serena, The Witch of Artemia was seated on her throne in her ornately decorated castle. The long, blue, flowing gown made her look like she was riding on waves. An intricately decorated crown adorned her neatly tied-up hair. The large green jewel in her crown mirrored her green eyes making her look surreal. Her cherry, red lips stretched into a sultry smile as she saw Alpha Alaric walk in. His hair was messy, clothes were crumpled; in short he looked like he had just survived a torando.“Alpha Alaric, to what do I owe your presence?” She asked in a sweet voice.Alaric’s blood boiled, his eyes turned red and he said through clenched teeth, “Where is Sienna?”“Have people forgone all the etiquettes with the advent of the modern age? Isn’t it considered polite to dress up when you go to visit someone?” the witch commented as if Alaric hadn’t spoken anything. She flicked her wand and so
When Elliot arrived the next morning, he found Alaric leaning against the wall. His bloodied shirt was lying in a heap. Catching a glimpse of the bullet on the floor, he picked it up.A hiss escaped his mouth and he dropped the bullet. Damn! This was silver. His heart pounded against his ribs as he knelt to the floor and grasped Alaric’s shoulders.“Are you okay? He asked in a shaking voice.“Sienna made sure of it…” Alaric’s bland voice sounded. Something was not right. When he spoke Sienna’s name his eyes didn’t light up the way they always did.Elliot looked around and asked, “Where is Sienna?”Alaric lowered his eyes and stared at the floor without replying. Elliot’s heart accelerated as he jumped to his feet and trotted around the apartment calling out to Sienna. When he couldn’t find her, Elliot returned to the hall.“Damnit! Can you just say where Sienna is
