Chapter Five 

Irene's P.O.V

With the way my back hit the wall and with the way he dragged me inside the room, something cut deep into my flesh and I had no idea about what it was but all I knew was that I felt a jarring pain on my leg and I was bleeding really bad. 

  I heard some incoherent words outside the door but the only word that I could grasp was 'dinner party.' Whatever they were talking about wasn't my business nor was I interested in them.

  The only thing I was bothered about was how I got here! 

From what I could recollect last, I ran away from home by climbing through the fence, finding myself deep in the forest then I heard a growling sound that sent goosebumps all over my skin. 

When I walked backwards, I hit my back against something hard! Suddenly, his eyes that glimmered beneath the moonlight flashed through my head. 

Wait a second, wasn't he the same man who pushed me inside now? Slowly, his words last night began to flash through my head.

He asked why I was running from me and he addressed me as his soon to be wife. 

  Suddenly, it dawned on me that I was in the house of the man that was the reason why I ran away from home. 

   My heartbeat pounded in my ear with my heart thudding hard in my chest. My hands shook, with my chest growing tight as if bile rose in my throat. 

I had a panic attack!

It was suffocating, every breath that I took made it seemed like it was about to choke me. I couldn't spend another second in this damned house, I just couldn't! 

  I trudged to the window, panting hard as I stared down. Some people were outside, cleaning the compound, their clothing was looking so tattered that I almost puked. 

  All of a sudden, sounds of gunshots that tore through space, outside the compound further increased my panic attack as I threw up right on the wall. Everybody outside scrambled for the closet cover and scampered for safety. 

  I stood still again when I heard a growl coming from the outside, it was like the same growl that I heard yesterday. What was this place?

I peeked through the drapes serving as cover for the windows and I could swear that I saw a wolf now but it wasn't a normal wolf's size. It was twenty times larger than a normal wolf's size!

"Xavier! Come out, you bastard! Make sure you bring your mate along so that I can finish you off at once" I heard someone thunder down the stairs! 

"You want to take what doesn't belong to you! Let's end it here right now! No one can become the supreme Alpha except me!"

Supreme Alpha? What did he mean by supreme Alpha?

  I couldn't believe that my father was trying to get married to such a dangerous man. How could he even borrow money from someone as dangerous as this. 

"If you love yourself, come out before I kill you. If I find anyone inside, I would be killing them straight up" 

  Out of fear,I opened the door and walked down the stairs with my head lowered down. I guessed that he would spare me since I wasn't Xavier's mate. It must be the lady he was having sex with, the man downstairs must mean his sex mate. 

  I raised my hand above my head, walking to where the man was standing. He was surrounded by some people whose faces were devoid of emotion. 

I knelt down on my own, with my head lowered so that he would spare me and spare my life. He could kill Xavier for all I care, all that mattered to me was for me to escape this place alive and unscathed. 

"And who are you?" I heard him say. 

"I-I am....." Before I could complete my statement, I heard his voice up the stairs and it sent cold shivers down my spine. 

"Who do I owe this pleasant visit to, Liam?" His voice was eerily calm.

"Trying to play games uh? Just bring your mate here so that we can end this silly game here. I am going to kill you for coveting what belongs to me" 

   Xavier laughed hysterically and said "What do you mean dear cousin? My mate is before you, are you blind can't you see her"

   I turned to look around me to check who Xavier was referring too, the Kourtney lady wasn't there so who was he talking about? As I was looking around me, my eyes caught the man called Liam whose eyes darkened as he shot dead stares at me.

I was starting to realize that I was the one Liam called his mate!

"Seize her!" Liam roared.

"If you dare lay a finger on her, I would show you the reason why the moon goddess placed a curse on me" Xavier said.

I was taken aback for a second! He defended me? Or was I not hearing right? And, who was the moon goddess that placed a curse on him?

"Really? I love dares" Liam smirked, approaching me. 

He jerked me up by using my hair while I let out a soft whimper "This is just me carrying out my dare"

   A growl that shook the mansion was heard, Xavier squeezed his eyes shut and when he flicked his eyes open, his eyes were pitch black! Extremely darkened!

  He stood rigid on the stairs as his knees reversed direction and the cracking sound of bones was heard. Dark fur sprouted from his body as his face changed shape and the wolf's muzzle extended out in front of him. The clothes he had on tore as the size of his body increased. 

His eyes that were darkened flickered from black to red. 

My eyes widened and it looked like it would almost bulge out! 

The man my parents were getting me married to without my consent was a werewolf!

  He started running towards me, the more he ran, the more my heartbeat increased rapidly. I was trying to free myself from the grasp of the man who tightened his grip around my hair.

My eyesight was beginning to blur, it was totally blurred. The more I looked on in shock, the more it looked like the beast charging towards me was coming to rip my heart open.

Slowly, my knees weakened as I crumbled down on the floor.

I had fainted!
