Chapter 80: Late

I failed her! Arriving to see the house empty and in a horrifying mess made my heart pound fast in my chest. I swallowed a lungful of air, controlling my uneven breath. I needed to think clearly.

I had picked up too many scents that it was difficult to tell how many of them were here.

As I looked around the house in search of any evidence that could lead me to those who took Scarlett away, I pushed my way out to the balcony. Just outside, I found claw marks on the rails and walls. I inspected the area carefully. The scent of wolves in this spot was beginning to fade but it smelled rogue. That is the first hint I’ve picked since I arrived. Rogue wolves were here! But why would they want Scarlett?

I looked in the far distance, beyond the tall trees, wandering where the rogues have come from. The only person who would come after Scarlett is Evans. And that’s if he knows she’s alive, which is impossible.

I paused when my eyes fell upon a house close to mine. I paused. That
