Thank goodness I’d decided to leave the hospital as soon as my gut told me to. She could have passed out on the bench, and that creep might have found her. The thought sent a shiver down my spine, and I tightened my grip on the steering wheel as I drove. After vomiting, I gave her some water to rinse her mouth, and then took her back to the car. She fell asleep almost instantly, exhaustion overtaking her fragile state.
